Cable channel O’live TV hosted its first Style Icon Awards on the night of October 30, and a parade of stars turned out on the “orange carpet” for the event. Held at Club Answer in the upscale Seoul neighborhood of Cheongdamdong, the event awarded select members from not only entertainment sphere to honor as icons, but also some from society and the arts.

Actor Jung Jun-ho (The Last Scandal of My Life) acted as host, and awards were handed out to stars like Rain, above (Style Icon of the Year), Jung Ryeo-won, Park Tae-hwan, Sohn Ye-jin, and more.

SONG OF THE DAY

Rain – “사랑이라는 건” (The thing called love), from his recent 5th album, “Rainism.” I don’t love or hate the album — the third was really my favorite, and I was not impressed with anything after that — but it has a few nice tracks, like this one (I tend to prefer the songs Rain doesn’t release as singles.)

Kwon Sang-woo weds Sohn Tae-young (finally)

After all the hullaballo, Kwon Sang-woo finally married Sohn Tae-young today (September 28), and I for one am glad, since we won’t be having to hear about it anymore.

The couple gave a press conference prior to the wedding, as the wedding itself was closed to the press. Sohn Tae-young wore a Kenneth Pool gown, which she bought on the couple’s recent trip to England.

Kwon: “I’m finally getting married. I’m so nervous — my nerves don’t begin to compare with any film festival or event I’ve been to. … We’ll live happily together. I vow to love her forever.” Sohn: “It doesn’t feel real yet. Actually, I wasn’t nervous at all while getting ready. But now I’m starting to feel it.”

When asked about kids, Kwon answered that he’d like three, but joked that Sohn “has agreed to two, for her figure’s sake.”

And, since it’s not every day such a huge Hallyu star gets married, we have a pretty impressive guest-star roster that rivals the red carpet at some of the largest industry events.

News bites: May 26, 2008

  • Su Ae will have the distinction of being director Lee Joon Ik’s first female lead actress after he made his name with male leads in The King and the Clown, Radio Star, and The Happy Life. In You’re Far Away [님은 먼곳에], she’s a woman who becomes a traveling performer during the Vietnam War in search of her husband who went off to serve. Shot in Thailand, the movie releases July 24.
  • In response to the audience’s issues with the CG in the recently premiered Iljimae, PD Lee Yong Seok admitted on Internet message boards that he had to “sacrifice realism” and use CG for actor and crew “safety.” Yes, because realistic plots and characterizations are so unsafe. He defended his use of the invisibility cloak, saying, “It might look awkward to adult eyes, but I figured that it would be a fun treat for young fans of Harry Potter.” What, no Quidditch?
  • Currently promoting Girl Scouts and filming her new drama When Night Comes, Kim Sun Ah has revealed that she’s no longer with her boyfriend from her Samsoon days. She explains wanting a boyfriend who can understand her job as an actor (or perhaps be one himself).
  • Crown J, enjoying a rise in popularity from the MBC variety show We Got Married, is pairing up with supa-star Jang Dong Gun in a Max Beer CF. Apparently they spent so much time filming Crown J that Jang Dong Gun joked, “Hey, what about me? I can do a good job too…”
  • Shinhwa singer Kim Dong Wan has considered appearing on We Got Married — if his partner can be Hwang Bo: “I think I’m the only person who can show her dual personality” (easygoing on the outside, but with an extremely feminine side). He joked that it’s something her partner on the show, Kim Hyun Joong, can’t pick up on due to his youth — but he can. Kim Dong Wan is currently promoting his second solo album.
  • A gay couple marries on cable channel tvN’s program Coming Out, which follows two gay couples who live together over seven episodes and records them as they plan their wedding. Aww. The program airs on May 26.
