Update on Jang Jin-young’s cancer

Jang Jin-young, who was diagnosed with stomach cancer in September, has spent the intervening time receiving treatment. She is now talking to press about her condition in her first interview since the diagnosis.

In a phone interview with the MBC program News Who on November 29, the 34-year-old Jang said that her condition has improved with the aid of traditional Oriental medicine, such as acupuncture and moxibustion (treatment using mugwort herb). She explained that those treatments “really helped a lot. Of course, I’m receiving care at the hospital as well, but because anti-cancer medicine affects all of my body’s cells as it fights the cancer, it’s been difficult. With the moxibustion, my condition has improved and has made me hopeful. The hospital is pleased [with the improvement] as well.”

Currently, she has received three rounds of treatment, and the question of surgery remains in the air. People had speculated that Jang was suffering from late-stage cancer, and she explained that that was probably because she hadn’t released much information about her condition. She did, however, reveal that “it had looked very bad.” She is hopeful for a healthy recovery and an acting comeback.

Jang Jin-young extends contract

Jang Jin-young begins treatment for cancer

Actress Jang Jin-young is only 34, but she’s just delivered the shocking news that she’s been diagnosed with a stomach cancer.

On the 25th, her management rep revealed, “When Jang Jin-young went to the hospital for a recent medical treatment, she received the diagnosis for stomach cancer. Starting on the 25th, she will begin treatment for her illness.”

The initial exam took place last week; she has admitted herself to Seoul University Hospital and has discontinued all her television and work-related activities, focusing solely on treatment and recovery. Stomach cancer happens to be the number 1 cancer among Koreans, but thankfully her case doesn’t appear to be late-stage. Further details about her condition, however, aren’t yet available, and her management has said that they make more statements as her treatment progresses.

Jang competed in the 1992 Miss Korea pageant and acted in films The Scent of Love, Over the Rainbow, and Singles, among others, before taking on her most recent role, acting opposite Song Il-kook in last year’s arms-trading action drama series Lobbyist.

Since the announcement, fans have flocked to her fansites and homepage to leave well-wishes for a speedy recovery.

Lobbyist postponed as precaution

If you’ve wondered what happened to the SBS drama Lobbyist, aka The Most Ridiculously Expensive Kdrama Ever:

“Lobbyist” Postponement Actually Because of Subject of Arms Dealing

SBS judges topic inappropriate during South-North Korean summit talks

In a special news flash, SBS’s drama Lobbyist, scheduled to premiere on October 3, was suddenly postponed to the 10th because of the South-North Korea summit talks. However, the bigger reason is that the content of the first two episodes of the drama runs counter to the intent of the summit talks.

The first two episodes of Lobbyist dramatize the Gangneung incident* of 1996. In the story, Harry (Song Il Guk’s character) loses his father during an effort on the East Sea to stamp out weapons trade from the North. As a result of losing both parents at a young age, the orphaned Harry and his younger sister leave for America with their aunt. …

* The Gangneung incident of September 1996 was an infiltration of North Korean spies that resulted in the deaths of at least seven (South Korean) military and four civilians.

As a result, the drama will air on the 10th and 11th (Wednesday and Thursday), but with two episodes each night, to catch up to the original schedule.
