Damn, some guys just have that old school movie star look about them that blows all the flower boys out of the water. Why is Ji Jin-hee (Take Care of Us Captain, Dong Yi) looking so good? It probably helps that he’s sporting a ruggedly handsome look in the first photo, then switches gears to dorky-hot in the last one, aaaand I’m pretty much toast.

Running Man: Episode 76

Will the cast catch on to the killers’ mission or find themselves eliminated without a trace? Stills, stills, and more stills from Take Care of Us, Captain

I guess today is just going to be photo-overload day. Take a look at a massive collection of stills from Take Care of Us, Captain, SBS’s new entry in the Wednesday-Thursday race. It’s up against two promising other new entries — The Moon That Embraces The Sun and Wild Romance — so all eyes will be on the ratings numbers once the three have made their simultaneous bows.

I’ll admit to being lukewarm on the concept of Captain, but now that I’ve seen more from the show, I do think it looks very pretty. Plus, Ji Jin-hee looks awesome. I don’t just mean that in the “He’s so hot” way — that doesn’t hurt, though — but that he looks completely into character and charismatic, even in still photographs. Not that we’d expect any less of Ji, who’s so good when he’s got a good script and cast to work with. (Not that he’s ever bad. But he can be wasted, that’s for sure. See: Spotlight.)

Take Care of Us, Captain releases its first poster

Here’s the first poster for upcoming airport drama Take Care of Us, Captain, starring Ji Jin-hee as a top airline pilot and Gu Hye-sun as his rookie co-pilot. It’s being described as “an airline humanism drama,” which I suppose sounds slightly less random and weird in Korean. Slightly.

It’s a pretty poster — I like the crisp colors and lighting — although I can’t help but feel like the actors’ torsos have been Photoshopped past recognition. Is it just the angle, or have they shortened Ji Jin-hee’s arms by half? The positions are strange and uncomfortable. *tucks elbows in self-consciously*

This drama is SBS’s portion of next week’s Wednesday-Thursday premiere madness, and probably the one I’m least excited about (KBS has Wild Romance and MBC unveils The Moon That Embraces the Sun). I can’t say that the premise excites me, but as with all things, we can’t know till we see firsthand.

Lee Chun-hee and Yoo Sun co-star. The drama premieres January 4. Which of the three new dramas will you be watching first?

It’s Ji Jin-hee‘s turn for stills for SBS’s upcoming Take Care of Us, Captain, in which he plays said captain. More specifically, he’s the talented pilot of a passenger airline who gets saddled with a new co-pilot (also love interest), played by Gu Hye-sun (The Musical).

Rounding out that love triangle is Lee Chun-hee (Gloria), who works in the air traffic control tower. That love triangle gets rounded out again (oy, mixed metaphors — can a triangle get rounded? what if there are two of ‘em?) — should I call it Star of David-ed? — with Yoo Sun (Sons of Sol Pharmacy) playing a member of the flight crew who challenges Gu for the pilot man’s affections. And ostensibly loses, since she ain’t got top billing.

First stills from Take Care of Us, Captain

The first stills are out from Take Care of Us, Captain, starring Ji Jin-hee as an airline pilot, which began its shoots on October 30 in Incheon. I do wish the stills told us more about the show, and they’re not even set in the drama’s airport milieu. But I suppose that’s the nature of teaser stills, made to keep us guessing.

The story follows the growth of his smart, enthusiastic young co-pilot, played by Gu Hye-sun. In Gu’s stills, her character Da-ji is looking at her younger sister Da-yeon in her kindergarten class, gazing on fondly as the doting unni.

Lee Chun-hee joins airport drama Take Care of Us, Captain

Mr. Chunderella, aka Lee Chun-hee, has been added to SBS’s upcoming airport drama Take Care of Us, Captain, which earlier cast Ji Jin-hee as an airline pilot and Gu Hye-sun as his co-pilot and love interest. Let’s just hope that the romancing happens off-duty, because there’s enough to ruin air travel already without having to worry that the two knuckleheads in the cockpit aren’t doing their jobs properly, isn’t there?

Lee Chun-hee plays an air traffic controller at Incheon International Airport with seven years of experience under his belt. He’s prickly and cool, but possesses a cute, playful side that sometimes crops up. He’ll add another side to the love polygon as a romantic rival for Gu Hye-sun’s affections. Again, I reiterate: I really hope all this romantic competition is off-the-clock, because two pilots and an air traffic controller are exactly the types of characters I have no patience for seeing futz up their work with personal baggage.

Lee’s character is also described as a man “who boasts the best tower control skills,” which just makes me go pfffffffffffft. Seriously, Korean dramas, not every character has to be The Best at everything, especially in fields where having A Best is a ridiculous notion. “Oh, he’s The Best salaryman ever!” “My postman? He’s not just great, he’s The Best postman in the district!” Are we basing this distinction on how many crashes he hasn’t been responsible for? Because frankly, that’s a category that shouldn’t have an award; it’s called Just Doing Your Job.

The drama follows the lives and careers of the various characters who populate the airport, from the aforementioned airline pilots, the flight crew (of whom Yoo Sun is a member), the airline executives (Honey Lee), the maintenance staff, and others. Take Care of Us, Captain will begin shooting mid-November and will premiere on January 4.

Ji Jin-hee joins Gu Hye-sun in aviation drama

Ji Jin-hee (Dong Yi, The Man Who Can’t Marry) is returning to SBS with a drama titled Take Care of Us, Captain, in which he plays a skilled and perfectionist pilot opposite Gu Hye-sun (The Musical), his co-pilot and love interest.

The drama was formerly called Fly Again, which was a smoother-sounding title but also perhaps more generic-sounding. I think I’m okay with the new title, though it translates somewhat awkwardly into English.

2010 MBC Drama Awards

It’s time for each broadcast station to put on their end-of-year awards. The MBC Drama Awards are first of the bunch, and man, Kim Nam-joo must be peeved. She finally gets her Daesang — and it goes shared, with Han Hyo-joo. Yeesh. This is almost as bad as when MBC split the Daesang between Kim Myung-min and Mr. Hand Towel.

First off, let me say that I did watch several episodes of Dong Yi and found Han Hyo-joo better than expected — not bad at all. Thing is, she wasn’t what I’d call great, either. Powerful enough to win the Grand Prize of the year? Not so much — certainly not over Shin Eun-kyung, who had to settle for a Top Excellence award.

“폭풍전야” (Stormy Night aka Lovers Vanished)

This is a story about a man (Kim Nam Gil), who after being betrayed by love is falsely accused and put in prison. He escapes with the help of an inmate and sets out on the path of revenge. Yet his desire for revenge starts to fade as another women (Hwang Woo Seul Hye) starts approaching his heart. In a lone restaurant on the beach, the two start a sad “lie-like love story”.
