Though last week left us hanging with the feeling of doom and portent, this episode is, in my mind, best described as bittersweet. As Eun Soo finalizes wedding plans with Joon Hyuk, Hye Rin and Tae Joo are becoming more like a genuine couple, which is really nice to see, except for the knowledge that it can’t last. Or can it? I can’t predict what’s going to happen anymore with this drama, and I won’t try.

I loved this episode! It marked a turning point in the story, and I felt the balance in the character relationships shift dramatically. What comes after this is competely up in the air, but ho boy, is it going to be a doozy. I can just feel it.

So things get deeper for what I’ve started calling (in my head) our 80% Couples, mostly because I like the current pairings — they seem to work well on the outside, especially in the case of Eun Soo and Joon Hyuk — but no matter what, they’re never going to breach that point of being completely together, emotionally and mentally. They are relationships that may have worked in a world where Eun Soo and Tae Joo had never met, in the absence of something deeper and more heartfelt to contrast their current lovers against. You can make up a difference of personality or �suitability� with an abundance of love… but you can’t make up a difference of love by overcompensating with other things. Which is why Eun Soo-Joon Hyuk and Tae Joo-Hye Rin are, in my mind, 80% Couples.
I generally like using funny screencaps, or at least face shots, as my introductory image, but for some reason, this one stuck out to me today.
So in contrast, here’s a happy song. It’s not that today’s episode is wrenching emotionally, or even sad. It’s more realistic with a slight bent of melancholy. Because of the realism. But I mean this all in a good way. This episode feels like, as Hye Rin tells Eun Soo (about something else, of course): “It’s not coincidental so much as it’s inevitable.”
