“Horror comedy” are two words that instantly pique my interest (I’m thinking Shaun of the Dead or Zombieland) so I’m already liking the sound of Fortunetellers, a new film that has just cast up-and-comers Kang Ye-won and Lee Je-hoon as the leads.

The premise sounds promising, too: In a village hit by a “mysterious event,” a motley group of fortunetellers possessing a hodgepodge of talents is marshaled to pick up clues.

It’s the era of the idol singer (seriously, Korea’s practically drowning in idols these days), so it’s only appropriate that we start making them the focus of dramas (see: Dream High and the upcoming and hopefully hilarious Vampire Idol) and movies like this one, Mr. Idol.

The plot of Mr. Idol centers around a star-making “dream variety show”; Kim Su-ro (God of Study) and Park Ye-jin (My Princess) put together a boy band called Mystery Children, made up of four young men from different backgrounds. The members are all troublemakers of sorts, and the movie tracks their progress from motley crew to popular success.

The movie, which releases in October, stars Ji Hyun-woo (A Thousand Kisses, Birth of the Rich) and Park Jae-bum, which seems appropriate; Ji started out as the guitarist in pop-rock band The Nuts, while Park is formerly of idol band 2PM. In the supporting cast, you’ve got another musician in Kim Randy, a member of Electroboyz, a rap/hip-hop group that debuted last year. The fourth member of the fictional movie band is Jang Seo-won, whom you may recall as one of Ha Ji-won’s stuntman buddies in Secret Garden.

Park Ye-jin (My Princess) has begun filming the role that Park Shi-yeon left behind, in the idol music industry film that was formerly titled Happy Together, now called Mr. Idol. Can’t say I love the title change, as it sounds more like a male model calendar contest than a film about idol stars, but at least the premise sounds interesting. It’s described as a comedy about the music biz, and specifically about the making of an idol group, focusing on the behind-the-scenes movers and shakers of the entertainment industry. I feel a little better about the film now that it’s clearly marked for humor.

She’ll be reuniting with Family Outing member, funnyman Kim Suro (God of Study) in what should be a great match-up of wits between the man with the midas touch when it comes to making idol stars, and the woman who has to actually manage them. I’m picturing lots of Park Jin-young-esque stuff from Kim Suro, who reportedly researched real producers to come up with his character. What, did he follow Yang Hyun-suk around for a day and come up with his own impression?

Director Jang Jin (Good Morning President) has a new movie coming out with a robust cast, called Quiz King. The teaser was released this week and, in conjunction with the high-concept comedy plot, it sounds like a lot of fun.

At the center of the film is a television quiz show that has never had a winner, whose jackpot is now 13.3 billion won (approximately $11 million). The story unfolds around fifteen feckless contestants who find out the final answer to the quiz — but only the final answer — and compete for the win.

Looks like Death Bell is another high school horror franchise in the making. Since the original movie (also called Bloody Midterms or Go-sa) did so well two summers ago (starring Nam Gyu-ri, Lee Beom-soo, Kim Bum), producers are back with a sequel this summer, Death Bell 2: Bloody Camp.

This movie has again teamed up a couple of established older actors with a group of rising stars to portray the teachers and students at a high school beset by horrific circumstances. Kim Su-ro also played a teacher in his last drama, God of Study, and is joined by High Kick Through the Roof‘s Hwang Jung-eum. Leading the younger set are Baker King‘s Yoon Shi-yoon and God of Study‘s Park Ji-yeon (or just Ji-yeon, as she’s known per her T-ara pop-singer persona).

Hyun-jung’s last time depending on Baek-hyun.

This episode was a clean finish for the Baek-Jung storyline. After this I think the drama can move much faster. I’m sorry to all the Baek-Jung fans out there, heh.

We are finally making progress with the characters! As it is for most of you readers, the more fun parts of the episodes are when the F5 are actually outside of class. This episode allowed the watcher to be able to see more of outside-of-class interactions and helped the characters to mature.

Episode 5 was somewhat of an awkward cram for me; I tried to fit as much as I could that I felt was necessary for the storyline to be understandable. As a result, I felt it came off rather bland and as a simple rehashing. Episode 6 gets past these necessary add-ons, so we get some meat here.
