Not quite ready for her close-up yet

We should have a drinking game. Every time a Korean article uses (or misuses) the term “comeback,” everyone downs a shot. Just don’t expect to see Kim Tae-hee making hers anytime too soon.

The actress — quite possibly known as much for being a weak actress as she is for being beautiful and smart — is having a hard time finding a role to take on.

Kim recently explained her current situation through her official fan club and café, saying, “It’s really difficult finding a project that suits me. Actually, in the past I felt a sense of obligation, thinking it was better to act in anything and fail rather than to do nothing at all. These days I really want to get back in front of the camera.”

She expressed thanks to her fans who’d sent her gifts for the upcoming Chuseok holiday this weekend and said that she wanted to show her thanks with a great project: “But thank you all for waiting patiently.” (Btw, it creeps me out that Korean stars get food gifts from fans, because how do you know you haven’t got a crazy amongst them, a la DBSK?)

Kim Tae-hee’s last role was the movie Fight a year ago (which met with mixed reviews), and has stuck to CFs in the interim. In fact, her university senior and fellow actor Lee Soon-jae drew attention during an interview with her on KBS2’s Entertainment Weekly in May. He’d told her, “Lately I see you doing a lot of advertisements, but if you find a good project, a suitable role, whether it’s a film or drama, take it. Being an actor is about taking something all the way, not advertising.”

A representative for the actress disclosed, “She plans to choose her next role and resume acting soon.”

Sibling love

Lee Yeon Hee (right) and sis

Fans are always curious to note family resemblances between celebrities and their lesser-known siblings; every now and then you’ll catch wind of another star’s sibling being identified. Their pictures circulate on the internet, engendering audience response that generally falls into the “What great genetics!” category.

Young actress Lee Yeon Hee and her older sister are the latest such example. Go News and Newsen have put up the pictures and provided comparison shots, noting that her older sister, who operates an online clothing store for which she also models, is just as attractive as her younger sister.

Take a look at some other sibling pairings after the jump.

The brainiacs among us — stars with high IQs

After it became known that announcer Han Joon Ho is a member of Mensa — the group open only to those with high IQs (specifically, those who score above the 98th percentile on standardized IQ tests) — interest arose in the topic of celebrity IQs.

For reference, the average IQ is 100, although the range can be extended to include 90 through 109. (110-119 is superior intelligence, 120-140 is very superior, and above 140 is generally known as genius level. Conversely, 80-89 is in the “dull” range, 70-79 is borderline deficient, and under 70 is considered “feeble-minded.”) And yes, I know IQ can be considered an outdated standard of measurement.

Now, some of these names are familiar, but some are a bit surprising. Goong’s Kim Jung Hoon, a smarty? Whoaaa. Not that he seemed, well, un-smart, but I’m a little surprised.

No celebrity good deed goes unpunished

Actress and bone marrow donor Choi Kang Hee

Alls I’s gotta say is: Anti-fan culture is ridiculous. Even supposing a celebrity donates money or performs an act of charity purely for the attention, the bottom line is that worthy causes are benefited. As far as I’m concerned, that’s what we call a win-win situation.

Stars’ good deeds meet with harsh criticism

“When news of my charity work is reported, I fear the rise of anti’s.”

Not long ago, that’s what actor Kim Tae Hee said in an interview with the press. She’s been a spokesperson for three years for the Make a Wish charity, and in June she even donated 5 million won herself to the group.

However, she tries to keep news of such events from leaking out because she wants to avoid the negativity that results, expressed in comments like, “She’s just trying to act angelic” and “It’s a publicity stunt.”
