• wish that Jeon Woo-chi had more dimension, though we enjoyed the fun, Cha Tae-hyun’s impishness, and Hong Jong-hyun’s adorable stoic charm (22:00);
• talk about how adorable Flower Boy Next Door is, Yoon Shi-yoon’s endearing performance and his cute chemistry with Park Shin-hye (though it must be noted that the podcast was recorded before finale week — I think we’d have a few tempered comments to add were we given a do-over) (32:50);
• and wrap up with the juvenile antics of Level 7 Civil Servant (42:35).

Everything gets tied into a neat bow as our characters go through the wringer trying to prevent a broadcasting accident. What goes around comes around, it seems, and Anthony is made to choose between saving himself or saving his drama. For anyone who knows Anthony, the decision he makes shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Last Ratings Report: The final episode of King of Dramas clocked in at 6.7%. Alas, no big shake-ups.

There’s only one episode this week before next week’s finale, as our drama within a drama tackles a last-minute extension and live shooting, which should all sound very familiar. That’s all stuff I’d like to see, but we instead get taken for a ride as Anthony goes the noble you-know-what route with our World Boys and Go-eun, which makes me simultaneously want to hug him and strangle him with a fur collar all at once.

Oh, Show. Please be going somewhere with this.

There’s plenty of cute and winsome moments for our developing love story, and a healthy dose of some eye-opening drama not related to our drama-within-a-drama to go with it. Hyun-min finally realizes that he might just be awful at what he does while Anthony proves to be awesome at what he does. Come to think of it, so does Go-eun. And Min-ah. Actually, everyone but Hyun-min is good at what they do in this show, though there’s hope yet that the landscape might change.

At least there’s plenty of meta commentary to look forward to this episode, which means there’s no time like the present to dig deep into your mental storehouse of drama trivia. Luckily the events hinted at are some pretty big ones in terms of what made the news last year, which makes spotting them something like a game.

It’s like there’s a little extra magic in this episode, though I’m not quite sure if that’s due to the floodgate of feelings becoming more or less open, or whether this cast’s sparkling chemistry has just gotten… More sparkly? Is that a thing?

I can say my love for Anthony took another exponential leap, because it’s kind of hard not to love a man who can be so glib about buying his girl winged pads while scoffing at her tendency to embarrassingly weep at a movie she’s seen a hundred times, only to sit through it all the same. This goes for most of the characters in this show this hour, and not just Anthony: Love is in the air. And it’s a lot of fun to watch.

I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday break, and in case you missed it, King of Dramas will only be airing Episode 17 on Tuesday of next week, while Episode 18 will air the following week, with a special to wrap up the series. Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!

Bad news for addicts: our Monday-Tuesday drama dosage will be greatly reduced next week, due to the end-of-year awards ceremonies scheduled to air in their time slots. Monday December 31 is the day for both KBS and SBS Drama Awards, and well, you can’t really air dramas while you’re trying to award dramas, can you? So sadly that means both King of Dramas and School 2013 will be skipping their Monday broadcasts, and will resume on Tuesday, January 1.

If there’s anything that Santa has taught me over the years (other than a musical mnemonic about single-malt scotches), it’s that Christmas is a time of giving. Dramaland gives us so much throughout the year, that I thought it was finally time for me to stop being a grinch and give back, out of the goodness of my heart. *waits for credit*

So this year I’ve made a Christmas list, and every drama I’ve watched this year is on it. Because everyone deserves presents. Yes, even you, Show.

This show, I tell you. It’s just so sweet, warm, and full of feel-good moments and heart. Not to mention copious amount of laughter, since Hyun-min encounters a bad case of foot-in-mouth that lands him in hot water with his girlfriend and his co-star, which in turn lands him in the middle of a press scandal. Since when have misunderstandings been so funny?

It’s time to run into some regular production woes, which include some above average fare, what with our leads hugging soup barrels and each other to survive a chilly night and a fire burning out of control on set. I’ll take any of these conflicts any day over Empire Productions/World Productions power struggles, so bring it on, King of Dramas.

Side note: Apologies for the delay, folks! Turns out tonsillitis can really get you down. Between this and the holidays we’ll have a tough schedule, but at least we’ve got an extension to look forward to(?).

Finally! I’ve been waiting on confirmation of the King of Dramas extension ever since SBS suggested that it was likely to happen, but things were oddly quiet over the past couple weeks. The silence was particularly noticeable because its successor drama Yawang has been swinging into production mode, and all reports were keeping its premiere date carefully vague. My suspicious brain thought suspiciously that it must be because the extension was up in the air.

So I presume SBS was trying to hammer out the exact number of episodes by which to extend King of Dramas. After suggesting that they wanted four more, they have instead settled upon two. Thanks be! If we must have an extension, the smaller the better, I say. This means that the show, which was originally going to have 16 episodes, will now end with 18.
