Moon Chae-won added to My Fair Lady

Moon Chae-won has just been added to Yoon Eun-hye’s comeback drama, which recently changed its title from “Lady Castle” to “Please Take Care of the Young Lady.” The series still retains that latter name as its Korean title [아가씨를 부탁해], but has been listed on KBS World for its global broadcast as “My Fair Lady.” (Bleh, now we’ve got a surplus of titles, like we did that other recent KBS show, Six Months –> That Fool –> Accidental Couple.)

Moon Chae-won burst on the scene in the period drama Painter of the Wind with Moon Geun-young, and is currently featured in the smash hit weekend series Brilliant Legacy. In My Fair Lady, she’ll portray a lively young woman who dreams of being a shoe designer. She had grown up with Yoon Sang-hyun’s character since childhood and been like a blood sibling to him; as an adult, she worries over him and hopes that he’ll straighten out his life.

My Fair Lady premieres August 19.

Lady Castle looks for a new name

Looks like the upcoming KBS miniseries Lady Castle [레이디캐슬] will probably be broadcasting under a different name, as explained by production company Lee Kim Productions. To that end, they invited online users to vote on the potential new title on the KBS drama homepage on July 2 and 3.

The reason cited was a concerted effort to curtail the unnecessary overusage of English titles by production companies, which is also the reason given for the last-minute title change for the drama Accidental Couple (aka That Fool), which changed its name from its initial “Six Months.”

Top contenders for Lady Castle’s new moniker include the two selections voted on by netizens: “Oh! My Princess” [오! 나의 공주님] and “Take Care of the Young Lady” or “Take Care of Agasshi” [아가씨를 부탁해]. Of the two, “Take Care of the Young Lady” led in online votes, meaning there’s a good chance that will be the new title. However, there was a group of netizens who preferred the current title “Lady Castle,” while others criticized the reasoning, saying, “If you don’t want English titles, then what about Partner, which is airing right now?”

Meanwhile, filming will begin soon with stars Yoon Eun-hye, Yoon Sang-hyun, Jung Il-woo, and cutie youngster (of Speed Scandal) Wang Seok-hyun. The drama soon-to-be-formerly-known-as Lady Castle is scheduled to follow current Wednesday-Thursday drama Partner at the end of August.

UPDATE:

The new title is confirmed as “Take Care of the Young Lady” [아가씨를 부탁해], which I assure you flows much better in Korean. Personally, I think they should have kept “Lady Castle” — whose meaning refers to the luxurious, castle-like mansion that the three sisters live in — but oh well.

Yoon Sang-hyun storms the Lady Castle

Ohhhhhh! This was not expected! Queen of Housewives hottie Yoon Sang-hyun (the “thirtysomething Gu Jun-pyo”) has scored big with his follow-up project: acting opposite Yoon Eun-hye in the upcoming romantic comedy series Lady Castle.

A lot of name actors had been mentioned as possibilities for this role — I’d heard murmurs of Kang Dong-won and Won Bin, as well as Lee Dong-gun or Kim Rae-won — but in the end it’s a fresher face (although he’s the oldest out of the bunch). I’m actually really pleased with this — Yoon Sang-hyun isn’t just a pretty face, he can do both comedy and drama, and although he’s a relatively green actor, he’s got tons of charisma.

Yoon Sang-hyun is a last-minute hire; he met with producers on June 23 and after coming to an agreement, they are heading into final contract negotiations. As soon as those are finalized, he’ll enter into filming immediately. He had actually been a strong contender to head Magazine Allo — which would have also been hunky-dory with me — but because of the plagiarism accusations and subsequent scheduling delays, he chose Lady Castle. (Maybe that’s why Magazine Allo producers were particularly peeved with Style for ruining their production.)

The story of Lady Castle situates Yoon Eun-hye as as the “princess-like” middle daughter in a rich household. She crosses paths with a poor man who becomes the household manager (who secretly aims to get at the family’s hidden slush fund), and is involved in a love triangle with him and a rich man from an aristocratic family. Yoon Sang-hyun is currently in discussions over which of these two characters he will play. (Just as long as he doesn’t pull a Kwon Sang-woo and play them both!)

Writers are Yoon Eun-kyung and Kim Eun-hee (When Night Comes, Winter Sonata — meh); director is PD Ji Young-soo (Flowers For My Life — yes!).

Lady Castle will air on Wednesdays and Thursdays on KBS after Partner ends at the end of August.

Yoon Eun-hye focuses on drama before movies

Yoon Eun-hye has refuted rumors that she is taking on a new movie, saying that she is concentrating her efforts first to the drama series Lady Castle.

She had been reported as signing on to the movie Yeoudeung [여우등], but her rep explains that while it’s true they had discussed her taking the part, they have not accepted. She received the offer last year but has not made a decision, although the project remains on her list of possibilities. However, she will not decide on a film project until she is done with her drama series. (This is in character with Yoon; while she perhaps is not the most skilled actor, she has been praised for committing fully to her characters, which is why I find them engaging.)

In Lady Castle, a poor man disguises himself as a housekeeper/manager of a rich house with an eye on the family’s hidden slush fund. He falls in love with the haughty second daughter (of three), “Noh Yura,” played by Yoon. According to the actress’s rep, the male lead and director have yet to be confirmed.

Meanwhile, Yeoudeung sounds like an interesting project, should she take on the lead role of a lovable musical actress — it is to be directed by Heo In-mu of films Herb and Love So Divine and is described as a mystery-melodrama.

Lady Castle (possibly) marks Yoon Eun-hye’s TV return

I add the caveat that this may be Yoon Eun-hye’s television return, because the last time her comeback role was announced (the my-gay-roomie-is-faking-being-gay-and-really-likes-me project Personal Taste), it was then retracted.

This time, the project to potentially follow her last drama, 2007’s Coffee Prince, is Lady Castle. Her character is the middle sister of three, all of whom live in a “palace-like” mansion and know nothing of the world outside their bubble. Yoon’s character becomes entangled with a (you guessed it!) poor man who joins the household.

Lee Kim Productions is behind the project, and explained that other than Yoon, the rest of the casting has not been decided. They are currently looking at several Hallyu stars to cast opposite her and hope to get the drama on the air in the first half of the year. However, the drama series has not been added to broadcast schedules yet. Lee Kim Productions faced problems after their spat with actor Park Shin-yang’s pay for War of Money (oh, what a prescient title) forced them to leave the drama producers association. While the production states that this poses no problem, the drama does not yet have a broadcaster.

If the project goes through, this will be Yoon Eun-hye’s first acting project in two years.
