GAH. It’s here, my first drama crack of the year. Why is this show so pitch-perfectly stabbing me in the heart? It’s so badass and cute and angsty in that authentically teenage way that just gets you right there. It’s equally earnest and ridiculous, but it’s totally my kind of angst. I love everything about these characters and this world, and especially the telling of it, shot in a moody, atmospheric way that’s beautiful without being candy-coated. I’m SO IN.

Shut Up: Flower Boy Band: Episode 1

I love this drama already; Episode 1 delivered just what I’d hoped for, and what I wanted. I’ve watched a lot of high school shows — an embarrassing number, actually — and if the rest of the series maintains the premiere’s moody atmosphere and underdog narrative, I think it can rank up there with my favorites.

True, we will be losing Lee Min-ki soon since he’s just an extended cameo, and he’s definitely one of the best, most charismatic aspects of the show so far. But I like what I see of the rest, even the newbies, and if the smooth directing can continue to showcase the strengths, I’m not too worried for the other cast members. Lee does have a star power that’s practically overwhelming, and I feel like the others will be able to shine more once he’s gone. (Hey, that glass is half-full, okay?)

Tons of new stills for Shut Up: Flower Boy Band! But what interests me more than the pretty, pretty pictures are the character and premise descriptions that come therewith.

Now we finally get some idea of what the actual story’s gonna be, and whether this underdog story will tickle our drama fancies. A scrappy ragtag band of rocker boys, up against their polished, perfect, “princely” rivals? I think my fancy’s been tickled. It’s like Jem and the Holograms, only now we’re rooting for the Misfits. Or, speaking of misfits, it’ll be the rock cousin to the show premiering on the same day, Dream High 2, which’ll give us the idol version. (Ack! Drama overload ahead.)

Lee Min-ki makes a cameo in Shut Up: Flower Boy Band

Is this a fitting cameo or what? Lee Min-ki will be making a special appearance in tvN’s upcoming Shut Up: Flower Boy Band, playing a rocker. His character, Byung-hee, leads his band with his “4-D charm and musical talent, possessing both charisma and a pure spirit.” He has a big influence on the music scene of which the drama’s main characters are a part, and may be just a little bit crazy.

This is pretty much perfect casting, as far as I’m concerned, because it fits his image to a tee. In fact, Lee Min-ki would’ve been the ideal hero for a drama like this if he were younger, or if it had come earlier in his career; he is to the pretty-but-tough-rocker image what Jang Geun-seok is to the pretty-boy idol image. Plus, as we know, Lee Min-ki has a pretty strong interest in music himself; he put out an album and has performed live in the past.

Lee Min-ki’s cameo will only span two episodes, but that’s the nature of cameos, I suppose. His appearance is attributed to his connection to producer Park Sung-hye, the head of the Oh Boy Project, who was also the reason for Kim Hye-soo‘s cameo in Episode 1 of Flower Boy Ramyun Shop.

Shut Up: Flower Boy Band will premiere on January 30 and run for 16 episodes on tvN.

Release day is approaching for Chilling Romance, the romantic comedy starring Sohn Ye-jin (Personal Taste) and Lee Min-ki (Quick) that looks hilarious and kooky.

Here are more stills and another poster and trailer for the movie, in which she plays a woman who sees ghosts everywhere (which is probably why she’s always in the drinky) and he’s a magician who supposedly conjures ghosts, but is actually a big ol’ scaredy-cat when confronted with the real thing. The poster above reads, “Is dating supposed to be this chilling?”

Here’s a sneak peek at Chilling Romance, the upcoming romantic comedy with a supernatural twist, starring Sohn Ye-jin and Lee Min-ki. I didn’t know what to expect with the tone of the film, given that it’s about a woman who sees ghosts after a near-death experience and a magician who conjures ghosts, but now that the posters and teaser are out, it looks even cuter and funnier than expected.

Sohn Ye-jin and Lee Min-ki pose for an eerie photo spread in Harper’s Bazaar, to kick off promotions for their upcoming spooky rom-com Chilling Romance, about a woman who has a near-death experience that allows her to see ghosts, and a small-time magician who claims to conjure them. He sure is pretty…or is he too hot to call pretty? Lee Min-ki even admits, “As far as looks go, I don’t have a complex over it.” I guess that self-confidence does add a certain je ne sais quoi to his image. Adding to his looks is his adorable southern dialect that manages to be urbane and innocent at the same time. It’s charming. And delish.

The actor who once delighted us as Kang Tae-bong in his last drama, Dal Ja’s Spring, sat down for a quick interview to give his fans a quick low-down on his latest activities. With his 2009 blockbuster movie Haeundae, Lee showed the audience he has the star power to act on the big screen and solidified his bona fide movie star status with his latest action packed movie, Quick, which had a staggering budget of 10 billion won for its production. Lee’s charismatic yet quirky persona seemed to be tailor-made for the role he plays in this action comedy movie.
