You’re Here, You’re Here, You’re Really Here is the MBN sitcom that premiered at the start of December, which touted itself as a new style of sitcom modeled after the American sitcom format, with a Friends-like vibe. Supposedly.

At 120 episodes and on a daily airing schedule, it’s not a show I’d normally want to watch… but for the lead actors, whom I love. I’ve wanted to see Jin Yi-han as the central lead in something for a long time — not playing a loser or a baddie — and Lee Soo-kyung is so bright and effervescent in comedy roles.

So here’s an introduction to the series, which covers episodes 1 through 20, putting us just about current with the airing schedule at the time of this posting.

Note: I’ve seen this title mistranslated as Come, Come, Absolutely Come, which makes me cringe (such blatant disregard for verb conjugation!, protests my inner grammar nerd). Sadly enough, it’s probably the title by which this show is better known.

The cable deluge is upon us! I’m glad to report that some of the brand-new selections look quite promising, as is the case with the adorable Color of Woman, which turns out to be a lot more feel-good than the descriptions made it seem. It’s a lot warmer and friendlier than “two careerwomen in a fierce rivalry,” because as it turns out, those rivals are also friends with a quirky relationship and enjoyable chemistry.

In fact, what this drama has going for it is fantastic chemistry all around — each main cast member has great rapport, and a different dynamic, with the other three.

New drama Color of Woman has just released two posters, which may not be terribly original, but it’s not a supremely high-concept show anyway. The posters convey the general tone and gist of the show, and are pretty cute despite being fairly standard, verging on plain.

The story’s about two rival careerwomen in a cosmetics company with opposing professional styles — one is chic and wily (Lee Soo-kyung), while the other is more ordinary with a strong work ethic (Yoon So-yi).
I’m not that familiar with Yoo In-young, the 27-year-old actress of A Man Called God and My Precious You, but I’m a big fan of the other two, who have solid comedic chops on top of dramatic skills. Plus, this sitcom touts itself as the first Korean sitcom to follow the American-style sitcom format, so I’ll be curious to see what that means, exactly. How will it differs from Korean-style sitcoms like High Kick and All My Love, for instance?

MBN is the brand-new cable channel bringing us the vampire-alien-prince-idol-star sitcom Vampire Idol (so awesome, that descriptor), and now it’s got another sitcom in the works: a Friends-esque sitcom titled You Drive Me Crazy, which has just lined up Lee Soo-kyung as one of its leads.

MBN is described as a general-service cable channel (as opposed to one that caters to a specific category, like OCN and movies, for instance), and is not yet in service; it premieres in December and is busily preparing its inaugural programming selections.

You Drive Me Crazy touts itself as “Korea’s first sitcom made in the American-style drama format.” That could mean a lot of things, but I’m hoping it yields a positive result. Perhaps it means it’ll adopt the studio-audience format, although Korean sitcoms like High Kick already make use of canned laughter. Or maybe it means it’s dipping its toes into the single-camera comedy format — although that doesn’t work with the Friends reference, which was multi-camera. Urg, guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Despite not having many expectations for Can’t Lose, I’m finding it to be surprisingly watchable and entertaining — light, funny, with enough characters and cases to keep the plot going without feeling like they’re going to run out of conflict. I appreciate that the conflicts are believable and interesting, without loading on the angst.

So far there are no really bad people in this drama, just people on different sides of an argument who both have valid points. In that, it sort of reminds me of Dal Ja’s Spring mixed with Love & Marriage, though maybe more of the latter. I think the other way around would be stronger, but both are sweet, funny dramas that I enjoyed all the way through.

There are lots of awards handed out, for sure, but at least SBS has some strong shows this year, with great performances all around in the competition. Go Hyun-jung stacks up another Daesang for her turn as the first Korean female president in Daemul, which if I’m to go based on all the parodies, involved lots of shouting in the rain. There’s a performance by Noh Min-woo, a THREE-way tie for Best Couple, and of course, some red carpet hits and misses.
