Gourmet: Episode 23

As though to make up for the lack in recent episodes, there’s lots and lots of food in this episode. And that means lots and lots of food analysis! Mmm, my favorite kind of analysis. Apart from actually eating.

Gourmet: Episode 22

Not as much foodie talk today, as you can see. Or, I should say, there’s not as much literal cooking going on, although food is still our main source of concern, what with Oonamjeong’s fate hanging in the balance.

Also, is it me, or are Kim Rae-won’s shirts suddenly a lot tighter? Not that I’m complaining. (I’m just sayin’.)

Oh, Bong-joo. You’ve made quite a swift decline over onto the dark side, haven’t you? And to think, at the beginning of the series I thought there was hope for you and your thick-headed, belligerent ways.

Also, the romance takes two steps forward (and one step back). But hey, that’s better than one step forward and two backward, right? It’s all about net gain, people.

Gourmet: Episode 20

It seems as though every episode puts Oonamjeong on the brink of certain disaster, doesn’t it?

It’s one of the inevitable byproducts of adapting a manhwa — what seems plausible in the pages of a comic book doesn’t always correlate perfectly to real life. For instance, how is it a restaurant (even a high-class one) lands in the front pages of newspapers every time it encounters trouble? But I’m willing to stretch credulity when the other aspects of the drama make up for that one. If something’s a big deal to our characters because the manhwa setup has deemed it so, I’ll go along for the ride.

Really cute episode.

Kim Rae-won is particularly fun to watch as he blunders through courtship, which is both cute and amusing, because he reminds me of so many hapless guys trying to figure out women and faltering badly, even though the answer seems so obvious from an outside perspective. (Women aren’t really so complicated, guys! It’s just that you often approach us either by thinking that (1) we think just like you and therefore react to things like a guy does, or (2) we are aliens whom it is pointless trying to understand, so why bother trying? A little effort goes a long way, right ladies?)
