Park Ki-woong is keeping his schedule packed, what with him currently at work on the upcoming Full House 2 and now also confirming the KBS drama Bridal Mask, aka Gaksital. That’s the sageuk-hero period piece which stars Joo-won as the hero; Park will take on his opposition.

In the drama, Park will play Shunji, a Japanese martyr. Since the hero is a freedom fighter, naturally that makes them enemies during a volatile time — the 1930s — when Korea was struggling for independence from the Japanese occupation. The lead character embarks on his heroic exploits wearing a bridal mask, which gives him a dual identity; mild-mannered by day, badass by night.

According to Park’s reps, he decided to take the drama because he’d worked with director Yoon Sung-shik in the past on 2009′s smart revenge-caper thriller Story of a Man. I’d say that’s a good call; that drama was sharply directed and also marked Park’s career turning point when he shed his goofy, lightweight image and went all-in to play an autistic genius.

Park has really expanded his range since then, and while I’m not that excited to watch Full House 2, I just got a lot more interested in Bridal Mask. It airs in May.

Wow. I thought I was disappointed with the ending in I Am Legend. This ending tops that on my “disappointment list.” The Musical started out so strongly, and was interesting for the first half. But it flagged, and it was evident in the writing, the editing, and even the acting. I think Park Ki Woong did his best with his character, but everyone else fell flat – more so by the end. Perhaps again the fault lies in the lazier writing.

But I’ll save the rest of my anger in the final comments. Here goes… (and no, unfortunately this will be a sober recap. Champagne and other bubblies were consumed over the holiday weekend before I watched this episode. I have no more left. Sob*)

Well now, looks like this is going to be the second to the last episode for The Musical. Word has it that the series may end at 15 due to the poor ratings. Honestly, I can’t be that surprised – it’s at a terrible broadcast hour, and the story has been flagging in the past few weeks. But WHY must they do this NOW when the story just picked up again!? We’re finally back to the musical part of The Musical! 

Oh well. I demand a time jump. If episode 15 truly is the last episode, I want a time jump. I’ll deal with the choppy editing.

Not quite the “solid episode” I was looking for, but we finally did move forward with Eun Bi and Jae Hee. I started off thinking this episode (and the rest of the series) was going to be about Yoo Jin because they focused on him and his family so much. So thank goodness we turned back to something more “musical-centered” – such as Gu Jak, Eun Bi, and Jae Hee’s story lines. Not to mention – Sung Ha has reached the end of my patience. In three episodes! Who would have thought!?

We’re back! Again. One of the benefits of having a hiatus is that the first ten minutes of the episode is spent on recapping the past 11 episodes. (Less for me to write!) One of the downsides of having a hiatus is that you really need those first ten minutes of recap. (Grr.)

However, some progress is made – especially on the Yoo Jin front. Yoo Jin – Yoo Jin – Yoo Jin – the least musical of all the characters and yet the most entertaining to watch. (Something is a little wrong here, writers…)

We’re back in business! Episode 11 aired last week, but heads up if episode 12 does not air this coming Friday. I heard that it might delay again thanks to a sports game…

Anyways – for episode 11 we have angst! And a totally new girl who’s pretty awesome too for Jae Hee. It’s not his sister (danggit!) but she’s close enough. As for Eun Bi, well it’s time for her to suffer for rejecting Jae Hee’s advances…As a character, she’s flagging, and I’m hoping we move past all the angst soon as the last five episodes come up for this series. I honestly do believe that these broadcast delays are not helping the pacing of the storyline anymore.

ZOMG! You know what the biggest bombshell of this episode was?! JAE HEE HAS A SISTER. Uh-huh. You read that right. A sister. Who holds the purse strings. And has the bank manager wrapped around her pinky. Yup.

Let the showdown begin. I can’t wait for a smackdown in the likes of Tsubaki versus Tsukasa in Hana Yori Dango.

Oh and the other bombshell? Park Ki Woong sings. Yes – the world is unfair.

Isn’t Joon Hyuk cute when he’s so happy? But this episode was all about Eun Bi. While it was great, what annoyed me the most was how self-sacrificing she is. I wish she could have stood her ground and trusted the people around her a little more. I wish that she didn’t worry so much about the people around her and think that she needs to give up her dreams for other people’s sakes.

And let’s not get into another fight about Gu Hye Sun’s acting! Because this time – it’s all the writing’s fault for creating such a character.

We’re halfway through the series! And the plot is pushing along because it’s a showdown between the scrappy Chungdamdong Gumiho versus the well-funded Count Monte.

Most importantly, Goo Hye Sun has finally given me a reason to cheer for her just a bit as the main character and one-half of the drama’s main coupling.

Wahoo! We left the retreat!

Life becomes so meta for Ock Joo Hyun here, as Kang Hee even considers a role on “Count of Monte Cristo,” a role she had already performed in Korea. And then she even sings the song in the episode. I felt gypped they didn’t put more of the song in.
