As previously announced, actress Park Shi-yeon (Coffee House, Story of a Man) married her fiancé, identified only as Mr. Park, on November 19 at Seoul’s Grand Hyatt Hotel.

Given that the groom is a non-celebrity, the affair was closed to the press, with just a select few photos from the ceremony now released to the media, as you can see here. Gah, I love how Park Shi-yeon always looks in a wedding dress, no matter the style. And she’s been in a number of them, surprisingly; a few for her roles, and a few in fashion spreads. If Jeon Ji-hyun is the perfect jeans model, then Park Shi-yeon is basically your ideal bridal model.

Another celebrity ties the knot: Park Shi-yeon has played the bride several times (once in Story of a Man, pictured above, and again in Coffee House), and it’s her turn to be one in real life. She has just announced her upcoming wedding to a non-celebrity, as well as her plans to hold the ceremony on November 19 at Seoul’s Hyatt Hotel.

Naturally, everyone’s curious to know who the groom is, and according to Park’s agency, he is identified only as Mr. Park, an ordinary office employee who works in the stocks and securities industry. The couple’s relationship was first rumored back in March, and has since turned serious.

Park Shi-yeon said in a statement via her agency, “I’m sorry to be conveying my wedding news through a press release like this. I’d like to set a good example in my happy marriage and family, and will do my best. I hope you’ll wish me well.”

Aw, yay for her! I used to think Park was just a pretty face who got acting offers because of her looks (admittedly, she was awful in her debut drama, My Girl), but she has gotten so much better in recent years and was just charming and winning in last year’s Coffee House. That made me a fan, and I loved how she portrayed a successful, confident businesswoman who wasn’t, for once, a bitch. (Why is that such a hard thing to find in dramaland? It shouldn’t be.)

Park’s current project is a “thriller sex comedy” called Scent of a Woman (absolutely no relation to the recent drama series), in which she stars alongside Park Hee-soon and Joo Sang-wook. The men play detectives, the former ending up as a suspect thanks to Park’s involvement, leading his junior colleague to chase him as well. The movie plans to release next year.

(And if they were, they are generally stars who are not known for their singing, despite their origins. See: Kim Kang-woo’s awesome beginnings as a soft-ballad rapper. That video takes forever to load, but trust me, it’s worth it.)

Some of these songs come from OSTs, some from digital singles, and some as featured tracks on other singers’ albums.

The Hong sisters strike again with another cameo featuring one of their previous cast members: Park Shi-yeon, whose first acting role came in their second drama (My Girl), is coming back for Best Love, which premiered today.

I have to say I’m disappointed that she’s not playing the same character, although it’s not because I had any great affection for her tennis star character from My Girl. In fact, from a purely acting standpoint I’m glad that Park has moved far away from that performance, where her inexperience really showed. (She was thankfully much improved in her latest role, Coffee House.)

Rather, it’s because the Hongs love to allude to their prior dramas with many of their cameos, though the revisited characters are often like alternate-world versions of the originals. See: Hana/Chun-hyang and Mong-ryong coming back in My Girl in slightly altered versions, or flirty Mi-nam making a pass at Lee Seung-gi in My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho. (Really, O naive ex-nun? What next, you take up drinking, cruising, and whatever other sins you’ve picked up along the way?) But character lobotomies aside, the cameos usually enough of a cheeky nod to satisfy fans.

In Best Love, Park plays a top star coming on the same matchmaking variety program that our drama’s leads, Gong Hyo-jin and Cha Seung-won, appear on. (I still contend that she coulda carried over her Maria Sharapova-esque “tennis beauty” role, but oh well.) Park’s appearance appears to be more substantial than the teeny blips usually afforded cameos, as she’ll be in next week’s two episodes.

Music-industry-centric movie Happy Together had originally cast Park Shi-yeon (Coffee House) in the lead role opposite Ji Hyun-woo, but Park has been forced to withdraw at the last minute due to her health, leaving just over a month before the film is to begin shooting.

According to her management, Park had previously received surgery on her back, which is acting up again, making it difficult for her to film. (Aftereffects of her surgery are also the reason she’d left variety show Family Outing a year ago.)

Instead, My Princess’s resident sourface bitchypants, Park Ye-jin, has been tapped to take over the role of a thirtysomething producer who wants to groom the twentysomething lead (Ji Hyun-woo) into an idol star. She joins rather late in the game and will be busy jumping from one project right into another, beginning shoots on Happy Together right after the currently airing My Princess wraps.

Park Shi-yeon (Coffee House) and Ji Hyun-woo (Birth of the Rich), lead guitarist of kpop band The Nuts, have been cast as leads in the upcoming film Happy Together. The movie will take place in the world of the music industry, and in particular the idol factory. Right on. Would love to see this world dramatized, especially if there’s a chance it’s not just a fluff piece.

Ji Hyun-woo will be playing a twenty-something vocalist in a band, and Park Shi-yeon will play the thirty-something producer who wants to turn him into an idol star. Interesting dynamic. I like it already. I just hope the story has some edge; if played safe this loses all interest from me.

Truthfully, I’ll probably watch it anyway for Park Shi-yeon. My main take-aways from Coffee House were: 1) book cafes are cool in theory, but weird in practice; 2) you can stuff a body in a suitcase as long as they’re compliant; and 3) Park Shi-yeon is a gem. Love her.

Happy Together also stars Kim Suro (God of Study, Quiz King) and Im Won-hee (also of Quiz King). Directing will be Ra Hee-chan (All We Need Is Courage, The Big Scene).

Actress Park Shi-yeon (Coffee House, Story of a Man) took to the streets of New York to attend the 25-year anniversary gala for Tommy Hilfiger, and shot a photo spread for Cosmopolitan in their new fall line.

I know it’s stating the obvious, but she really does look good in everything.

It’s been great to see Park coming into her own with her standout role in Coffee House as a high-powered but sweet and endearing character, who stood toe-to-toe with Kang Ji-hwan. I love how she manages to seem totally girl-next-door approachable, and then transform into red-carpet starlet goddess when she puts on a formal dress. It’s crazy enviable.

I enjoyed this finale. Finale episodes are tricky things. You have to wrap up the story, but not in such a rushed way that it feels crammed, like the drama ran out of time. We as the audience usually need some time to come down from the emotional climax, and a drama that cuts off too soon after that leaves us feeling shafted. On the other hand, you can’t leave so little for the last episode that it feels like an epilogue instead, with random scenes filling out the time after the final conflict is resolved.

This episode settled the major conflicts and gave us some nice character moments, and wrapped things up on an upbeat note. That’s pretty good for a finale, I’d say.
