It’s December, and you know what that means around these parts: Time to reflect on the past year and see how the dramas stacked up! And boy, were there a lot of them. As in previous years, I am planning a multi-part series (with special guest bloggers, natch!) to wrap up the year, which we’re... More »

A quiet finale for Road No. 1
MBC’s big war drama Road No. 1 turned out not to be so big after all, and ended this week with a 5.3% rating (AGB Nielsen). It’s been averaging 4% to 5% for its entire run so this is no surprise, but it is a big disappointment, especially given its whopping 13 billion won budget.... More »

Halftime Report: Road No. 1
Back by popular demand, it’s Round 2 of: Show vs. Girlfriday. I thought I’d check in with Road No. 1 at the halfway point, to see how it’s progressed since we last faced off in battle. To be clear: this is an experiment of sorts—I have not watched Episodes 2-9, so that I could come... More »

Ratings drop further for Bad Guy and Road No. 1
Kim Jae-wook, So Ji-sub Ouuuuch. Looks like the World Cup really did a number on SBS’s postponed dramas. While Monday-Tuesday’s Coffee House dropped to a 5.6% (from approximately 9%) after two weeks off the air, Wednesday-Thursday’s Bad Guy had an even bigger fall — down from 15% to 5.6%. Yikes. Out of sight, out of... More »

First Impressions: Road No. 1
I neither hate war epics nor do I love them. I neither anticipated this drama nor dreaded it. So when I say I came into this with zero expectations, I mean it literally. I know there’s a lot of hype surrounding this drama, but me? I’m not about the hype. In my book, either the... More »

Road No. 1 premiere numbers lower than expected
Road No. 1 premiered this week, and despite all the fanfare over its cast and 13 billion won budget, the first two episodes brought in a 9.2% and 9.1%, respectively. Not horrible numbers, but lower than hoped, certainly. Especially considering that competitor drama Baker King Kim Tak-gu on KBS climbed even higher with a 27.1%... More »

Yoon Kye-sang’s abs in Road No. 1

Road No. 1 wraps filming
The drama is a week and a half from its premiere, but already MBC’s Road No. 1 has completed all the filming on its 16 episodes. The production wrapped on June 12 and is now in post-production, meeting its goal of being 100% done with shooting prior to broadcast. I’m a little annoyed that the... More »
