Yoon Sang-hyun sings in Tokyo

Yoon Sang-hyun’s most recent project, My Fair Lady, was a miss, but thankfully for him he’s still riding high on his role before that, Queen of Housewives. The drama gained Yoon fans in Japan after it aired there, and on November 8, he performed several songs in Tokyo at the PAX MUSICA 2009–Asia Pops Platinum Live concert.

The event also marked Yoon Sang-hyun’s first live stage performance. Included in his short song list was the ballad he sang to great response in Queen of Housewives, his remake of Boohwal’s “Neverending Story.” He also sang a song by Hirai Ken (”Close your eyes”) and Nakanishi Yasushi (”Saigo no ame”).

A new look for Park Yong-ha’s new album

Yiiikes. Love ya, dude (Story of a Man rules all, y’all), but singer-actor Park Yong-ha’s artwork for his new Japanese single album is, um, maybe not the best way to showcase his lovely features.

Don’t get me wrong, I know there’s a concept at work — I just think it’s a little harsh and borderline garish. The imagery is supposed to evoke a Pierrot mask (those clown masks with white faces and a painted teardrop); I say at least there’s a second image showing him looking more like his usual gentle image. New single “Just Drag” by Jang Geun-seok

Jang Geun-seok is one of those actors, like Lee Min-ki, who is better at acting than singing but seems to have a strong interest in pursuing music on the side. His latest recording is the digital single “Just Drag,” which was released online on September 10.

Jang actually has a good singing voice, which is why I’m disappointed at how electronic and altered he’s gone, not only in this track but also his last single, the “music drama” Toucholic. (Here’s an example of his voice without all that techno tweaking.) Jang recorded the single recently with producer Bang Shi-hyuk, and a music video featuring Jang will also be released.

He has earned favorable response playing a murder suspect in his current film, the thriller Itaewon Murder Case. His next drama is the idol-star-themed You’re Beautiful co-starring Park Shin-hye, which will air in October.

Happier days ahead for Ivy?

With her scandal behind her and her management conflict resolved, singer-actress Ivy is setting the stage for her comeback, and has posted to her mini-homepage for the first time in a year and three months.

In an industry and society where big news is often announced via mini-homepage (romances, wedding plans, pregnancies), going dark for that long is tantamount to going into hiding. Now that she’s preparing for her new album and return to the public sphere, Ivy has posted the above photo, labeled as being at the UCLA library, with the title “Jumping up!” The post reads, “My body feels heavy so I can’t jump high, but on this cool day, I let go of my stress!”

Ivy traveled to the States in July while gathering materials for work on her new album, which is scheduled for an October release. Currently, she is in Korea recording and preparing for her comeback this fall.

Actor Yoon Sang-hyun, now in KBS’s trendy drama My Fair Lady, is releasing a digital single that goes on sale today, August 25.

Yoon Sang-hyun shot to fame as “Tae-bong” in Queen of Housewives, where viewers fell for his boyish charm and also his singing skills, which he displayed in that drama (see clip below). Following that, he also performed on variety programs and in television CFs. The digital single, called The Story of You and the Rain [비와 당신의 이야기], features the song he sang in Queen of Housewives, “Neverending Story,” originally by the group Boohwal (or Rebirth).

Dream’s Flower Fighter Hyun-woo

We’ve seen training photos of Kim Bum, star of SBS’s Dream, and now we turn to one of the lesser characters. Here we have Hyun-woo, member of pop group 24/7 and part of the “Flower Fighters” crew, which is the team of hard-bodied, good-looking athletes that includes Julien Kang, Marco, and singer Chung Lim.

These latest shots feature Hyun-woo in fighting form as he trains in mixed martial arts. He also attended action school to beef up his training regimen, often working out for up to nine hours a day. His new tough image as “Narcissus” (his nickname within the Flower Fighers) shows him in a wholly new light from the cute, romantic image he had portrayed in the sitcom Tae-hee, Hye-gyo, Ji-hyun.

Park Yong-ha celebrates five years in Japan

Thanks to Story of a Man (aka The Slingshot, aka the best drama so far this year, yeah I said it), I have newfound appreciation for Park Yong-ha, who has enjoyed some popularity in Japan for a number of years (no doubt in large part due to his role in Winter Sonata). On August 1, Park celebrated the five-year anniversary of his career in Japan with a concert at the Saitama Super Arena, located in the suburbs of the greater Tokyo region.

The event’s name, “Beautiful Days 1873,” refers to the 1,873 days since Park’s Japanese debut in June 2004. There were approximately 20,000 fans (!) in attendance.

SONG OF THE DAY

Park Yong-ha – “初めて出逢った日のように” (Hajimete deatta hi no you ni), which is the Japanese version of the song titled “처음 그날처럼” (Just like the first day) from the All In OST.
