Profile/Giveaway #2: YI SUNG YOL

First, I’d like to say that I know having lots of ads can be distracting on blogs. I’ve deliberated a lot on which ad blocks to use or not, and I’m never perfectly satisfied. But the ads are also why I’m able to give away free stuff like this, so there’s that silver lining.

Since the last free CD giveaway (and artist profile) went over pretty well — hey, what free stuff doesn’t, right? — I thought I’d continue with another great but overlooked artist, singer-songwriter Yi Sung Yol. (Also spelled Lee Seung Yeol/이승열.)

The Rules: Like last time, leave a comment with your email address so I can contact winners. I’ll give away FOUR CDs — winner gets his/her choice of CD, either Yi’s first album “이날, 이때, 이즈음에…” or his second, “In Exchange.”

Giveaway closes: A week from today, noon PST on Friday, June 20 27. I’ll close entries then and post winners later that day.

SONG OF THE DAY

Yes, but what does it SAY?!

Okay, this post has nothing to do with kdramas, but I occasionally post song lyrics and Tablo sometimes acts, so I’m covered. Not that it matters. Just saying.

Rapper and songwriter (and yes, sometimes actor) Tablo has revealed a short story he wrote in English on the variety show Sunday, Sunday Night. Tablo’s quite famous for his intellect as well as his popularity as Epik High rapper and songwriter, having graduated from Stanford University with a degree in English literature. (It’s earned him the nickname “Ta Bak-sa,” meaning “Dr. Ta.”) Apparently the author Tobias Wolff has praised the story, although it’s not clear who made the claim or whether it was corroborated.

The articles make mention of the short story and Tablo’s educational background, then go on to talk about some Michael Jordan sneakers that (other Epik High rapper) Mithra has from the Olympics blah blah blah… but I wanna know: What about the story?!?! You get Tobias effing Wolff (yes, that IS his full name) to read it — who cares if he liked it, just the fact that he supposedly READ it is news enough (I believe Tobias Wolff also teaches at Stanford, so perhaps it was in a classroom context) — and you don’t bother to comment on the material itself?

Come ON, Korean press!

Coffee Prince Lyrics: “White Love Story”

coffee-prince-lyrics-white-love-story

Lordy! Judging from yesterday’s traffic boost (14,000 hits. Fourteen thousand), I’m guessing people really, really like Coffee Prince. And why wouldn’t you? Yesterday’s episode was great.

Here’s a lyrics post for the song used in the last scene of the episode (#6).

Bad Couple: He Said, She Said

While I’m waiting for the latest episode to upload, I figured I’d knock off a quick song-lyric post. They’re the lyrics from the “Gi Chan said”/”Dang Ja said” songs that feature prominently in Bad Couple, since they seem particularly meaningful in context.
