First we saw Lee Jia‘s supposed transformation into an ugly duckling, now we see her dapper co-star in the telecinema project Love Is Blind [내눈에 콩깍지], Kang Ji-hwan^(mine).

It does seem that due to Kang Ji-hwan’s “visual impairment,” the unattractive and unpersonable character played by Lee Jia will be portrayed at least some of the time using the actress’ usual stylish appearance. Aside from that, there’s not much to add about the plot since that’s been covered in previous posts. Love is Blind opens on November 5.

Here’s the newly released poster for Love is Blind [내눈에 콩깍지], the segment of the telecinema project starring Lee Jia and Kang Ji-hwan. The romantic comedy features Kang Ji-hwan as a good-looking, capable, and charming guy who falls for an unattractive woman (Lee Jia) while experiencing a visual impairment that makes him see unattractive people as attractive.

Finally, some more news about that large-scale, multiple-installment, Korean-Japanese co-produced “telecinema project.” The release date has been set as November 5 for the segment starring Kang Ji-hwan (Level 7 Civil Servant) and Lee Jia (Style), which has a new title: Love Is Blind [내눈에 콩깍지].

I think the new title is a big improvement, since the tone of the film is much lighter than the initial working title, which was the much more unwieldy — and serious-sounding — The Relationship Between Faces, Hearts, and Love.

I kind of love how overly dramatic Big Bang’s TOP and Seung-ri are in these photos from their latest project, the Korea-Japan omnibus telecinema co-production.

Their installment of the ten-segment television-and-film project is called “19″ and had an open set on their Seoul shooting location on May 20.

Seven installments in the telecinema production have been produced, and two more will follow this one. 19 is described as a suspense drama, and the plot focuses on three nineteen-year-olds who run away together following a murder. It will air on SBS in the fall.

Based on the recent news, it seems this whole Japan-Korea joint production “telecinema” project is finally kicking into high gear.

Despite some actors’ names being floated around as participating in various segments of the project (such as Han Hyo-joo, Lee Soo-kyung, Cha In-pyo, Kim Sun-ah, Kim Haneul), I wasn’t really interested until this latest one announcing my Kang Ji-hwan‘s involvement.

Yay! And yet, also boooooo — because it sounds like it may possibly end up really lame. Still, hope remains alive as long as he gets to show his acting chops, unoriginal story notwithstanding.

Remember how DBSK’s Hero Jaejoong was all set for his acting debut in the joint Korea-Japan project, Heaven’s Postman? His co-star has been cast, and it’s Iljimae‘s Han Hyo-joo.

The series is notable for its famous Japanese drama writer Kitagawa Eriko (Long Vacation) and its I’m Sorry, I Love You director Lee Hyung-min.

Jaejoong plays a “quirky” character who delivers messages from loved ones on earth to the deceased in heaven. Han Hyo-joo is described merely as his co-star.

A source with the production said, “Currently, the actors are in script rehearsal, and shooting will begin early next month.” The two-episode “telecinema” is looking at a May 2009 air date on SBS and will also get a theater release and DVDs in both Japan and Korea, which explains why the production was eager to cast leads who command fans in both countries.

The prettiest pretty boy of DBSK, Jaejoong, is taking the plunge into acting.

He takes the lead in “Heaven’s Postman,” a joint Korea-Japan collaborative “telecinema” — to be produced simultaneously for television and cinema — directed by Lee Hyung-min, the PD of the drama series I’m Sorry, I Love You and writer Kitagawa Eriko of the Kimura Takuya vehicle A Million Stars Falling from the Sky.

The plot is said to be about a messenger between the present world and the afterworld, and will form the first part in what looks to be a series of stories. His female co-star has not yet been cast.

Because this project will be released in both Korea and Japan through various media — theater, television, DVD — the production company explained that they are taking care in considering Hallyu stars for their lead roles. Other Japanese writers involved in the project include Nakanozo Miho, Inoue Yumiko, Yokota Rie.

The project doesn’t have a definite release date, but is aiming for early 2009. I can’t say I’m totally with this “telecinema” idea, but you’ve got to hand it to them for being experimental with formats and distribution models.
