Another “Host”-inspired creature feature

Now here’s interesting casting. Charismatic actor Uhm Tae Woong has recently been cast in director Shin Jeong-won’s latest film (prior work includes Sisily 2km), which is phonetically titled cha-woo [차우] — I’m trying to figure out if it translates to Chow, Ciao, or some other onomatopoeic rendering of the term.

In any case, while I normally don’t get excited about mega-expensive blockbusters, and certainly not those that appear to be chasing the Host’s success, but this time I’m particularly interested with the latest casting of Jung Yumi opposite Uhm Tae Woong. She was brilliant in Que Sera Sera — she’s got this wonderful mix of quirkiness, fragility, and strength — and I always find Uhm intense and gritty (Devil, Resurrection, Delightful Girl Chun Hyang). With not just one but two particularly talented actors in place, perhaps this big-budget horror thriller will turn into something more than a throwaway gorefest.

Plotwise, Jung plays a zoologist; Uhm once again plays a cop, though this time he’s a demoted one. The two work together on the case, and develop a romance as well (they’re both strong actors, so I look forward to seeing how that chemistry sparks). The story unfolds when a series of strange, brutal murders occurs one summer in a mountain village; signs seem to point at a sort of wild beast; hunters and an animal specialist are brought in; the plot thickens.

The film will shoot in San Francisco starting in March, and has brought onboard noted computer-graphics specialist Hans Uhlig (The Day After Tomorrow, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Star Wars: Episodes 1, 4, & 5).

Sibling love

Lee Yeon Hee (right) and sis

Fans are always curious to note family resemblances between celebrities and their lesser-known siblings; every now and then you’ll catch wind of another star’s sibling being identified. Their pictures circulate on the internet, engendering audience response that generally falls into the “What great genetics!” category.

Young actress Lee Yeon Hee and her older sister are the latest such example. Go News and Newsen have put up the pictures and provided comparison shots, noting that her older sister, who operates an online clothing store for which she also models, is just as attractive as her younger sister.

Take a look at some other sibling pairings after the jump.

Uhm Tae Woong shows off his jewelry

Uhm Tae Woong is another actor I respect for his intensity and talent, as well as his range. It’s also great to see him coming into his own in recent years, no longer just pop singer Uhm Jung Hwa’s little bro but a bona fide celebrity in his own right.

Now he’s garnering notice not for his work but for his recent official public display of coupledom: He proudly showed off a shiny new couple ring, whose matching band is worn by model-actress Lee Young Jin, at the press conference for the movie My Love (which was also attended by his younger co-star Jung Il Woo). (Lee Young Jin was seen wearing her ring not too long ago when the couple attended Chu Sang Mi and Lee Seok Joon’s wedding together.)

Last month, he was a little less direct; when asked by reporters in regards to the film My Love who his love was, he answered in a roundabout way, “I believe the person I love is the one I’m seeing right now.” (Their acquaintance first came to light just this past August.) With a movie title that overtly love-centric, I suppose it’s only fitting that its actors all reveal a few romance-minded details of their own too.

Ratings Notes: Que Sera Sera & Devil

I’ve said before that I don’t really care too much for ratings, for a variety of reasons but mostly because I believe they’re horribly inaccurate. I also have an unfortunate tendency to develop attachments to television shows of high quality and low ratings, and it’s upsetting (as much as one can be upset at the fate of a TV show, that is) to see gems go underappreciated.

The ratings measuring systems developed thus far are in no way able to be completely accurate, and are therefore highly susceptible to misrepresenting actual viewership. But currently, there’s no better alternative, so we make do.

According to the headline below (and full article behind the jump), apparently ratings for Que Sera Sera and Devil/Mawang aren’t so hot, which I find disappointing because these two series, in my opinion, are probably the two best shows currently airing.

Epik High - “선곡표”. I’m in serious love with Epik High’s latest album (their fourth, Remapping the Human Soul). I like all of their albums, but this is definitely my favorite. I also have a tremendous respect for intelligent, literate music/lyrics/people, and Tablo represents all of those. [ zShare download ]

Week Round-up: “Hello! Miss” et al…

Since last week was the week of many finales, that makes this week the (very busy) week of many premieres. Help me, I’m drowning in dramas! This week alone, we have the premieres of: Que Sera Sera, Hello! Miss, Witch Amusement, Thank You, Devil (Mawang), H.I.T… Seriously, I don’t know where I’ll get the time. I’ll make the time somehow. Maybe most of the shows will suck so I don’t have to feel bad about dropping them.

There was no new episode of Que Sera Sera today (boo for televised sporting events!), but I do have ONE related goody for you (much thanks to yeohweping and ay_link!):

W & Whale - “Moonlight” (”월광,” weol gwang): Main theme song to Que Sera Sera. Can’t you just picture Eric strutting down the street to this song? He’s not at all my type, but I can’t deny he IS one sexy man. [ zShare download ]
