Wang Bit-na joins Kim Suro as a Kaya spy

I know, there’s been a lot of promotional material coming out about MBC’s Kim Suro, but as the drama finally premieres this weekend, this’ll probably be the last of them. I just thought I’d share, since the photos are lovely and portray a wholly different look to Wang Bit-na than we saw in her most recent role as Bu-ki in The Woman Who Still Wants To Marry.

In Kim Suro, Wang plays Ah-ro, aunt of Ah-hyo (Kang Byul), and possesses outstanding martial arts skills. She uses her wiles and espionage skills to approach the man who currently holds control over the Kaya nation (played by Lee Won-jong), from whom she conspires with her niece to steal the technology of ironworking.

Wang Bit-na’s Date Shopper

Wang Bit-na had one of the smaller supporting roles in the recent The Woman Who Still Wants To Marry but quite possibly the most kickass character (empowered, confident, and always, always right!). (Also: best nickname, Boogie-Woogie.) Now the actress will follow that role by hosting a new dating variety show, Date Shopper.

The show will air once a week on cable channel On Style, and each episode will center around a single woman who picks a date from three candidates. Hardly a new concept, so I suppose its appeal will depend on how they execute the idea.

Wang Bit-na, who married in 2007, plays the role of dating counselor. She said, “This is my first time being a host, so I’m excited and nervous. I’ll do my best to live up to the role of middleman in helping single men and women make connections.” The first episode airs on April 25.

The Woman Who Still Wants To Marry: Episode 16 (Final)

Before we get into the final recap, I want to give a hearty thanks to girlfriday for recapping this drama with me. I’ve never shared recaps for a series before, and I found it even more fun than I thought it would be, and also a learning experience (to see what she picked out that I didn’t, for instance). Fear not, this is not her last recap, though I won’t yet announce for sure what comes next.

Since this is the finale, this recap contains comments from both me and girlfriday; you’ll find hers in blue, for ease of distinguishing between us.

The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry: Episode 15

Meltdown! Hey, if my 24-year old boyfriend were hanging out with a popstar who calls him oppa, I’d be gnashing my teeth on raw pasta too. Or making a voodoo effigy. To each her own. There’s trouble in paradise this week, as we close in on the finale, and all our couples are put through the proverbial wringer.

The Woman Who Still Wants To Marry: Episode 14

These two are too cute. Kim Bum is so much better as a noona-killer than as the oppa. He should really be banned from playing oppa roles until he’s out of the army.

Two episodes left and I still don’t know how things are going to end. Because this drama is more realistic than most others — in the relationship dynamics, if not the comic situations — I can see it taking multiple different directions that wouldn’t surprise me.
