After all the hullaballo, Kwon Sang-woo finally married Sohn Tae-young today (September 28), and I for one am glad, since we won’t be having to hear about it anymore.

The couple gave a press conference prior to the wedding, as the wedding itself was closed to the press. Sohn Tae-young wore a Kenneth Pool gown, which she bought on the couple’s recent trip to England.

Kwon: “I’m finally getting married. I’m so nervous — my nerves don’t begin to compare with any film festival or event I’ve been to. … We’ll live happily together. I vow to love her forever.” Sohn: “It doesn’t feel real yet. Actually, I wasn’t nervous at all while getting ready. But now I’m starting to feel it.”

When asked about kids, Kwon answered that he’d like three, but joked that Sohn “has agreed to two, for her figure’s sake.”

And, since it’s not every day such a huge Hallyu star gets married, we have a pretty impressive guest-star roster that rivals the red carpet at some of the largest industry events.

I’ll admit, I wasn’t really planning to cover Kwon Sang-woo’s wedding news, but it’s everywhere right now so I’ll highlight the key points:

• Kwon Sang-woo held a press conference on July 18 in Seoul’s Plaza Hotel to confirm the rumors that have been swirling since people got wind of his romance with fellow actress Sohn Tae-young yesterday.
• Approximately 300 reporters were in attendance, with some Japanese female fans as well.
• Sohn Tae-young was not present.
• …because the media are harassing her.
• The wedding date is set for September 28. The ceremony will take place at Shilla Hotel; the honeymoon is yet undecided.
• After acting in the drama I Am Sam and having a cameo on Iljimae, Sohn Tae-young had been the host for cable channel DongA TV’s beauty and fashion program Sohn Tae-young’s Life Magazine, which she is now quitting.



• She cites the sudden media flurry as her reason for the sudden departure; the heightened scrutiny would make it impossible for her to carry on her program as normal. The episode she recorded on July 17 was her last.
• She’s also suspended her drama and CF casting activities.
• That has caused people to wonder, will Sohn Tae-young retire completely?
• Kwon Sang-woo says she’ll keep working.
• The two lovebirds met when they were introduced through Kim Sung-soo, Kwon’s co-star in the recent drama Bad Love. He first met her when eating dinner with Kim Sung-soo.
• The proposal wasn’t fancy. He’d bought a ring, gotten nervous, and even cried, after which she hugged him.
• He’s never been to her place (”all celebrities tend to be extra careful before things are definite”).
• They did travel to Australia together, with “close friends.”
• He’d originally intended to reveal his wedding plans to his fans first, at this upcoming birthday-cum-fanmeeting on August 5. But the news broke early and pre-empted that intention. (Aside: Could you imagine the possible disaster that could have been? Look at the media craze now — imagine if the news broke at a fan meeting attended by all his adoring female fans. Hilarrrrious.)
• He says Sohn treats his mother extremely well, one of the reasons he fell for her.
• He also wants to be a father.
• But it’s “absolutely not” because she’s pregnant! Her mother refuted claims that the speed of the announcement suggested a shotgun wedding.

With the ceremony still to go, photos have been released for actor and new father Jang Hyuk’s upcoming June wedding to longtime girlfriend Kim Yeo Jin (34). The photos are being released now because the wedding itself will remain closed to the public, out of respect to his bride’s family and the couple’s friends, who are non-celebrities.

Jang Hyuk expressed excitement about the nuptials, if a little abashment: “I’m a little embarrassed to be marrying after already having a baby, but I think that gives the wedding that much more meaning to me.”

The wedding will take place in Kangnam in Seoul on June 2.

Song Il Kook (Jumong, Lobbyist) is a bachelor no more.

The 37-year-old actor married his bride in Seoul on the 15th in a mostly traditional ceremony (embellished with a few modernized twists to give it a “creative” fusion vibe). The event was closed to the public, although more than a thousand well-wishers were present at the ceremony, so the only pictures available are the ones released officially to the public.

Song’s bride, a Ms. Jung, studied civil law at Seoul National University Law School and is a newly appointed judge. Impressive.

The couple met through mutual friends and are married after two years of dating. The actor’s reps expressed a desire to keep the bride’s name undisclosed, inasmuch as she’s a private citizen (with close to 1,500 attendees, good luck with that!)

Congrats to new dad Jang Hyuk.

The actor’s year is already plenty busy just one and a half months into 2008, and it’s about to get busier. He’d announced his marriage plans at the end of December, and is currently starring in the SBS drama Bulhandang (Con Man). In the series, which is earning middling response amid poor ratings (it airs opposite more popular shows New Heart and Hong Gil Dong), he plays an unscrupulous wastrel opposite Lee Da Hae’s widowed young single mom.

Then, just a few days ago on February 8, he became the proud father to a baby boy. In order to properly record his newborn son in the family register, however, the couple will be registering their marriage first, then hold the wedding ceremony in June.
