Ex-vampire-prosecutor Yeon Jung-hoon‘s new drama For the Emperor (or Here’s To the Emperor) has secured its leading lady in Eom Ji-won (Sign, The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry). Damn, just what I need — another drama to watch. I love each of them separately, but together? Okay, so maybe Yeon Jung-hoon with anyone is swoonworthy, but I love Eom Ji-won’s bubbly charm. Her Woman Who Wants to Marry character pretty much endeared me to her for life.

Yeon Jung-hoon hit it big with cable in last year’s sensation, Vampire Prosecutor, and now he’s heading back (though on a different station) for another drama, tentatively titled For the Emperor. (Another reading: Here’s To the Emperor.)

No, it’s not a sageuk or a fantasy empire we’re dealing with. The plot deals with a young CEO with the Midas touch, who considers money to be the most important thing in the world. He literally calculates everything in terms of money, but his success has also earned him the reputation of being a tyrant; ergo, he suffers from “emperor complex.”

The emperor/CEO finds himself entangled in a strange conspiracy, however, and over the course of the drama learns what people and life are really about. His character is described as possessing a masculine charisma, to which I say, Duh. We all saw him kicking ass and taking names — and sucking blood while solving crimes, while he’s at it — didn’t we?

This one’s being produced for MBN to air on weekends, and although Vampire Prosecutor’s Season 2 is still on the table, that series has yet to solidify any concrete production plans, meaning we’ll be seeing Yeon in For the Emperor first.

Mr. Emperor had himself a youthful love; the leading lady role is still in the process of being cast. The drama will follow What’s Up on weekends, premiering in late February.

girlfriday: Whew. Well that’s the only way to do it. This isn’t a show where you can carry over the concept and not the cast. What will our scooby gang do in Season 2?

Ooh, I love this ending. Since most of us have found the final reveal regarding the big bad somewhat expected, I’m thrilled to realize it wasn’t actually the final reveal — hello, twist!

This finale managed to do a tricky thing: Tie up the loose ends to satisfy the seasonal mystery, while leaving room open for that Season 2 the PD once again affirmed is on the table. And why not? The story supports it, as do the ratings — the final episode also brought in a series high, with a 3.34% ratings average that included a 4.3% high.

It’s the beginning of the end, and we finally start to get some real answers about the Big Bad. This episode zooms by, mostly because it’s effectively creepy and everything culminates in a big suspenseful buildup of all the clues we’ve gathered thus far.

We get a huge piece of the Big Vampire Puzzle in this episode, setting us up for the Finale, Part 1 next weekend. But even discounting that, we’ve got another strong case-of-the-week, which sends our prosecutors (and us) spinning round in clue-hunting circles, somehow finding the circle has changed with every turn we take. It’s dizzying, but in a fun way.

And now for murder, Bachelor style.

I love this episode. So much. It’s mobsters and mayhem, full of twists, awesome thug nicknames, and good ol’ fashioned backstabbing and blackmail. Jung-in’s past finally catches up to her, and the outcome is more fun and more gripping than I expected.

Dear Vampire Prosecutor: Why so cute? Sigh. This show just keeps getting better and better. Between the last episode and this one, I think it’s found that sweet spot of integrating character moments with the murder of the week, and introducing the kind of conflict that matters to us. There’s stirrings of romance, conflicting feelings, the dangers of being a vampire in a human world… in a word, it’s awesome.

I just LOVE when a dark, suspenseful show throws in a nice big dash of humor. Full of wry comedy, this episode got a lot of laughs out of me.

It’s also an exercise in the whodunnit style of mystery — you know, those stories where you’ve got a dead body in a secluded mansion and a houseful of assorted suspects, like Clue (whose movie version is one of my favorite camp comedy classics) — Colonel Mustard in the den with a candlestick, etc. In this case, it’s one dead Fight Club member and a police station full of suspects all swearing innocence, with an ever-changing cause of death that just won’t stay put and identify itself.
