Yoo Seung-ho at Busan’s press conference

Yoo Seung-ho’s new film, Busan, held its press conference on the morning of September 23, alongside his co-stars (and father figures in the film) Kim Young-ho and Go Chang-seok.

Yoo sheds his “um-chin-ah” (boy next door) image in this movie, which shows his most mature showing to date. He said, “I worked harder on this than previous projects. I tried hard to keep habits from when I played child roles from coming out here.” In the film, he is the only son of a roughneck father who’s always drinking and gambling. Go Chang-seok, who plays that father, admitted jokingly, “I had to hit Seung-hyo a lot of times, but it wasn’t because I wanted to. The director made me.”

King Yoo Seung-ho makes his Seon-deok appearance

Teen star Yoo Seung-ho (Legend, Fourth Period Murder Mystery) is finally making his appearance on the sageuk series Queen Seon-deok, which is currently sitting far ahead of its competition in the Monday-Tuesday ratings game. On September 14, the production released the latest images of Yoo on its homepage, dressed as his character Kim Chun-chu.

Chun-chu is the son of Princess Cheon-myung, played by Park Ye-jin, and believes that Princess Deok-man (Lee Yo-won) was responsible for his mother’s death. He later becomes King Tae-jong Mu-yeol of Silla. Yoo’s first appearance will air tomorrow in Episode 34.

Busan’s fateful relationship between two fathers and one son

With the shooting wrapped and the release approaching, the movie Busan [父,山] has released its first poster, featuring its stars Go Chang-seok, Yoo Seung-ho, and Kim Young-ho. (At first, I thought 16-year-old Yoo Seung-ho was posing with a cigarette, till I realized the lollipop was just meant to look like one. lol.)

The story unfolds around the “fateful relationship” of the three main characters, with Go Chang-seok playing a ne’er-do-well who has never been a proper father figure to his son (Yoo Seung-ho), with whom he lives a shabby lifestyle. However, when his son becomes ill with heart cancer, in an effort to save him he seeks out the boy’s biological father (Kim Young-ho), who abandoned his family 18 years ago in pursuit of his own success.

Yoo Seung-ho on Delicious TV

Teenage actor Yoo Seung-ho (Queen Seon-deok, Legend) recently filmed a pre-recorded segment for MBC’s morning program Delicious TV [찾아라! 맛있는 TV], which will broadcast on the 15th.

Despite the fact that he’s the hottest actor around of his age, he described himself as a normal student (he’s in his first year of high school, aka the equivalent of an American sophomore). When asked what he likes to do when not working, he answered that he enjoys things like playing basketball with his friends. He’s also addicted to internet shopping, but rather than being drawn to pricey goods, he usually buys inexpensive clothing and shoes, and even admitted to having a mere 8,000 won weekly allowance (approximately $6.50). Now, when you’re a big television and film star constantly acting in high-profile projects, I’m betting the concept of allowance is somewhat looser than when you’re not earning a living at 15 years old! (Isn’t Yoo Seung-ho receiving an allowance pretty much like giving himself money? lol.)

Yoo’s latest thriller, Fourth Period Murder Mystery, opens today, August 12. He also celebrates his 16th birthday on August 17.

Real-time mystery-thriller Fourth Period Murder Mystery [4교시 추리영역] will be releasing in theaters soon, and here are its official posters, featuring teenage heartthrob Yoo Seung-ho (Legend, Queen Seon-deok) and new actress Kang So-ra.

Yoo Seung-ho’s only 15 years old (he turns 16 in two weeks), but already he’s built up his filmography and commands screen presence; they don’t call him Little So Ji-sub for nothing. In fact, he and So Ji-sub — who previously appeared in an MV together — will be duking it out at the box office once So’s new movie comes out the following week. His romantic comedy collaboration with a Chinese production stars Zhang Ziyi and is titled Sophie’s Love Manual [소피의 연애 매뉴얼].

Murder mystery pauses for a kiss scene

The Yoo Seung-ho movie 4교시 추리영역 (Fourth Period Murder Mystery) has weathered director changes and an actor dropout (Kim So-eun), and is set to open in theaters in two weeks. In this recently released still, Yoo shares a screen kiss with his co-star Kang So-ra, who was brought in to replace Kim So-eun.

In the film, Yoo plays “Han Jung-hoon,” a top high school student who’s also popular with the girls. Fourth period at school is gym class, but when he stumbles across a dead body in an empty classroom, he becomes the main suspect. Thus the race is on to find the real culprit before the period ends and the situation grows more dire.

Kim So-eun quits murder mystery movie

I was interested in seeing Kim So-eun (Boys Before Flowers) acting alongside Yoo Seung-ho (Legend) in their school-set murder thriller movie Fourth Period Murder Mystery [4교시 추리영역], but it’s been announced that Kim So-eun has dropped out mid-project. The reason cited is that her schedule is too packed with filming for her currently airing drama, the Korean remake of The Man Who Can’t Get Married, which also stars Ji Jin-hee and Uhm Jung-hwa.

She’s not the only one bowing out; the director has also undergone a change as the original director Shin Dong-yub (writer of 100 Days With Mr. Arrogant) has left to be replaced by Lee Sang-yong, who got his start filming CFs. In Kim’s absence, new actress Kang So-ra will be stepping in as the new female lead.

That’s too bad, but with Yoo Seung-ho still attached, the movie still has my interest; its story unfolds in real time after a murder occurs at a high school, and students race to find the culprit within an hour. Although it was initially set for a July premiere, with the last-minute changes, the new release date is not yet decided.
