This would make my day, if the casting gets confirmed: Currently two top rom-com stars, Yoon Eun-hye and Lee Dong-wook, are reported as likely candidates for Wild Romance — that recently announced romantic comedy series written by Park Yeon-seon, she of Alone in Love, Mixed-up Investigative Agency, and White Christmas fame.

TOP and Yoon Eun-hye heat up the pages of W

I just have one main problem with this W magazine photo spread featuring Yoon Eun-hye and TOP: I think there’s a little bit of discrimination going on here. Where be his nekkidness? You’ve got her sans shirt and crawling all over him, and there he is, all buttoned up and decent. This is a problem.

I think we’re going to have to invoke that equal opportunity half-nudity clause of fashion shoots to correct this imbalance. What, there’s no such thing, you say? Well, clearly this is an issue the industry needs to address. For equal rights, and stuff.

Actress Yoon Eun-hye poses in a lingerie spread for Dazed and Confused (What is it with magazine names these days?) and she’s never looked better. I don’t know that there’s really a concept, but it’s sort of a progression from nekkid to half-clothed, like she woke up really hungover one day and it took her five hours to put on a shirt. No-go with the pants though. Those things are tricksy.

Movie rumors for Yoon Eun-hye, who denies casting is final

Nothing’s confirmed yet, but the newest Yoon Eun-hye news is that she’s considering taking the lead role in a Korea-China-Japan co-production, a movie centering around the last love of Cao Cao, a powerful warlord, military tactician, and poet in the twilight years of the Three Kingdoms era. (He died in 220 A.D.) The project is titled Dong Jak Dae or Tong Que Tai, depending on which language you’re translating.

According to reports by a Chinese media outlet, other lead roles will be played by China’s Chow Yun-fat (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), Taiwan’s Alec Su (The Message), and Japan’s Tamaki Hiroshi (Nodame Cantabile). Helming the project will be Chinese director Zhao Lin Shan.

Chow Yun-fat will play Cao Cao, and Yoon would play his “star-crossed heroine,” the “pure beauty” who was with him at his death. The plot uses real-life discoveries as its jumping-off point; the Henan Provincial Cultural Heritage Bureau announced in 2009 that Cao Cao’s excavated tomb revealed the remains of two females (one aged 20, one about 50) buried with him. The women’s identities remain a mystery.

Although early articles stated that Yoon Eun-hye has been cast, her reps stated that she has received the offer but has not decided yet, and one source from her agency’s side put the likelihood of her taking the role at 50%.

On one hand, this could be a great opportunity for Yoon Eun-hye, who’s one of a very small number of Hallyu actresses with that level of pan-Asian popularity. (The only others I might put on her level are Song Hye-gyo and…uh, that’s probably it.) On the other hand, Yoon Eun-hye with Chow Yun-fat? I can’t help but feel she’d be eaten alive, and while she’s enormously appealing and charismatic, Yoon’s biggest sticking point as an actress has always been… her acting. And if we’re not pulling any punches here, there’s the fact that her last three projects have been major flops. My Fair Lady, My Black Minidress, and Lie To Me — all commercially and critically unsuccessful.

If she does end up taking this, it would be pretty interesting to see her stretch herself and take on a new genre. Maybe it’s time for her to ditch the rom-coms and try something more meaty. I did want to see her tackle romantic melodrama with Love Song, before that project was shelved.

Either way, she’ll have to decide soon; the project is set to begin filming next month in Beijing, and hopes to be ready for an October 2012 release throughout Asia.

Ah-jung gets the word that she’s fired and runs out of the party barefoot. Piggyback time! And then to drive the Cinderella motif in further, someone retrieves her shoes, and Ki-joon puts them on her feet tenderly as he literally makes the crack, “They’re not even glass.” He calls her a crybaby (ain’t that the truth) and promises to make it so that she won’t cry anymore. Care to make a wager on that?

Lie To Me: Episode 11 Open Thread

Greetings once again from the North Pole! The girls forwarded all your requests for me to make another guest appearance, so here I am, back by popular demand (well, that and a barrel of rye, but if my Tax Elf asks, that was just a “gift”).

Gosh, I haven’t recapped since my episode of Bad Guy. Hope my sharp skills of deduction haven’t gotten rusty. I sure loved bragging to all the elves about all the fan mail I got. They’re way better than the usual Dear Santa fare. Some of them even had curse words! Ho ho ho!

Also, I’d like to personally thank those of you who gave me legal advice on the reindeer union strike of 2010. We finally reached a settlement, and though I mostly had to employ the people at FedEx to get presents delivered, I finally finished by Memorial Day. If you still haven’t gotten your present, either (1) the incompetent, sorry excuse for reindeer at FedEx lost your package; or (2) you’re naughty.

You know which one you are.

EPISODE 11 WEECAP

Ah-jung tells the Big Wigs that they’re married.

Ki-joon tells them that they’re not.

Get your story straight, people.

Ki-joon tears up the contract and yells that they’re starting over, no lies this time.

Yeah, this would’ve been awesome had it come six episodes ago.

So-ran scares Jae-bum into thinking she’s going to off herself.

She’s really hiding away in Jeju, and Ah-jung conveniently has to go there for work.

Ki-joon follows her there, deigning to go by boat rather than private helicopter.

He basically does her job for her, since he’s a VVVVVVIP and she is not.

So-ran pretends to die, because that’s apparently acceptable behavior for a grown woman.

Ah-jung saves her hide by making a really really long metaphor about how Jeju is Mom, because of abalone, and I don’t see how this is going to work, but somehow it does, because Ki-joon miraculously translates her extended metaphor into three languages at the same time, and everyone has a mother but her. Or something.

They celebrate with an awkwardly lavish dinner, and then finally apologize and confess their Twu Wuv.

They kiss and Ki-joon promises to take it slow and only look at her.

Then the girl who doesn’t take a hint sees it all. Well, that takes care of that, eh?
