I wonder if the mystery investor might be the SK government. They would have the clout to round up lots of celebrities, and I hear they have a history of wanting to spread Korean culture and enhance Korea's prestige. Dramabeans would be a good target for them.

Those statements together imply that he doesn't own DB now (???) even if he owned or part-owned it in 2016.
I knew this would happen. DramaBeans and GirlFriday referred to themselves as Candys, so naturally some cool chaebol investor suddenly appeared (dressed like a poor man of course) and he colluded with the janitorial staff who were actually actors in disguise and... I should watch a few less K-dramas shouldn't I?
Can we just talk about Kim So Hyun on her greetings video. I mean there is Open Thread to talk about other people. Don't disrespectful to the artist's please.
I'm fairly confident that trying to corral Beanie excitement in an orderly manner is impossible. Mary has enough to do whacking-the-bots, so if she also had to control all the wayward Beanie threads I'm afraid she would never have time to join in the fun herself
The point is actually that the staff announced they had found a buyer for the site, someone with resources and suddenly the site has enough connections that a BIG star like So Hyun is sending us a video shoutout. That suggests the money came from Korean entertainment media sources looking for a way to further advertise dramas and K-entertainment products. So the comment is a joke but it's also alluding to the fact that ... actually some rich Korean dude may have actually just bought a share in or the actual site. CJE&M? Choi Siwon (he's part of the Lotte family, he is ACTUALLY a chaebol outside of being in Super Junior)? Who knows! Maybe we'll find out soon.

That was James Sun, and it was discussed here http://www.dramabeans.com/members/thatstp/activity/508121/ a while ago.
There's also an article on geekwire

which said that Dramabeans was "majority owned by his family". But that was in 2016, which makes it seem unlikely that he could be the new investor.
I'm sticking with my government theory for now, partly because I just like it more. Deeper pockets :)
