Witch Amusement: Episode 16 (Final)

Ahh, Witch Amusement. How you’ve amused me so. Despite your repeated shenanigans (or maybe because of them), I’ve enjoyed watching you, all 16 episodes. You gave me so much to laugh about (and more to laugh AT, but who’s differentiating? Po-tay-to, po-tah-to.).

And now, we say adieu.

EPISODE 16 (FINAL) SUMMARY

Joon Ha calls Mu-ryong for a man-to-man chat, because what pleasant chat isn’t replete with ominous threats? He informs Mu-ryong that Yoo Hee’s company has met with utter ruin, and pins the blame on Mu-ryong: “Because of you, Yoo Hee’s lost everything.” He tells Mu-ryong he’d better end things with Yoo Hee — let her go before people get hurt any further.

Mu-ryong goes to see Yoo Hee, who is reluctant to let him in because she doesn’t want him to see all the little red tags stuck to her household items. But Mu-ryong knows what’s up, and he pushes past her to confirm the sight for himself.

He’s upset first and foremost that Yoo Hee didn’t bother to tell him: “Do I mean so little to you? Why didn’t you tell me? Why do I have to hear about this from someone else?” Yoo Hee asks what the point would be in telling him; what could he do? Mu-ryong: “We could hurt together, worry together, be together!” Yoo Hee hardens, and blames him for her troubles: “Together? This happened because we were together. So just leave. Go study abroad.”

Mu-ryong asks if she means it. She tells him to leave.

So Mu-ryong leaves, stunned at his loss, and Yoo Hee cries at having hurt both of them with her lie:

Mu-ryong leaves for Paris, and his family are by now so used to his habits that they don’t actually trust him to get on the plane. They follow him all the way to the boarding gate to confirm that the plane does, in fact, take off. Mu-ryong goes away to France thusly…

…but comes immediately back!

For about three brief, shiny minutes, I was in awe — UTTER AWE — at the marvelousness of this twist. I laughed out loud, thinking, “Man, Witch Amusement had an ace in the pocket, and boy did they work it!” Because I thought Yoo Hee and Mu-ryong had planned this all out. It was brilliant. Like in Confidence (or any hustling movie, really), where you are led to believe one thing, and it turns out to be the complete opposite — i.e., the happy couple invented this elaborate scenario to fool everyone so they could be together in peace! It’s fantastic!

Except, not so much. Because, you see, it wasn’t planned. Oh well. I should’ve known better. Expectations, what were you thinking? Crawl back into that box and shut the lid.

Instead, Mu-ryong returns to his parents’ restaurant, to everyone’s astonishment, because they totally saw him get on the plane. But they must endure yet another shock, seeing Yoo Hee come in with her luggage. Mu-ryong informs his family that she’ll be staying with them for a while. His mother haaaaaaaates that idea, although Mu-ryong explains that it’s because of him that she has nowhere to go. Witnessing the negative reaction to her presence, Yoo Hee offers to leave, but Mu-ryong holds her back.

Joon Ha’s next course of action is to visit Seung Mi, proposing that it’s their place to now tear the two apart. Sensing her reluctance to play the annoying clinging ex-girlfriend (anymore), Joon Ha tries to goad her, asking how she can give up on her love so easily. (If he thinks Seung Mi gave up easily, I shudder to think what he thinks it means to cling.)

But Seung Mi, to her everlasting credit, shows the spine she couldn’t show Mu-ryong, and refuses to cooperate. “I’ll take care of my matters myself. I have no reason to listen to you.” Applause all around for Seung Mi.

.
Mu-ryong’s father, being the awesome parent that he is, understands that although he has reservations about Mu-ryong and Yoo Hee, he can’t live his son’s life for him. His suggestion is that they first work on persuading Mu-ryong’s mother, who appears on cue to shrilly express her displeasure. Knowing what makes her tick, Mu-ryong’s father employs some hilarious reverse psychology, putting on a show of cruelly throwing the couple out. Mu-ryong catches on to the plan and sighs, “I guess we’d better go then, and find someplace to sleep on the streets.”

Hearing that, Mu-ryong’s mother’s guilty conscience flares, and she stops them from leaving — she didn’t realize they were that hard up. She thought they were exaggerating. If they honestly have nowhere to go but the streets, they might as well stay at the restaurant.

.
The Chaes get a visit from President Ma, who, having failed to buy off Mu-ryong, is now here to buy off his family. He offers them an envelope, presumably containing an obscene amount of money, offering even more to come. In return, he wants their help convincing the happy kids to split up.

Mu-ryong’s mother is offended at President Ma acting so important and superior. She’s not impressed or intimidated by his wealth, but Mu-ryong’s father interrupts her tirade, seemingly taking President Ma’s side. At first.

He takes a calm, reasonable approach, yet at the same time manages to lay down a terrific smack-down. He commiserates with President Ma about his fatherly concern — all parents speak the universal language of caring about their children. But: “You cannot disregard people so easily. You should first carefully consider why your daughter told us she had no place to go, forgoing your fancy mansion to come to such a lowly, pathetic place like this instead.”

And he hands the money envelope back without bothering to look at its contents. Booyah!

Joon Ha attempts again to convince Yoo Hee that she should come back to him. If she continues, she’ll ruin herself. Someone should tell Joon Ha that wooing a woman’s heart would work better if he actually SEEMED like he cares about her, instead of constantly threatening her and glowering possessively. Just a thought.

As Yoo Hee attempts to leave, Joon Ha grabs her arm (seriously, he might want to reconsider his tactics; the repeated use of force is really not doing anything for his game), and tells her he loves her. He tries to look earnest, as though this time he really means it, despite the fact that merely two episodes ago he was sneering that love was an emotion he knew nothing of. Well, I suppose a lot can happen in a week. I did my laundry and wrote a couple blog entries; Joon Ha discovered the effects of a profound, life-altering emotion he’d previously never believed existed, and fell head over heels for its powers. It could happen.

I don’t buy his newly earnest avowal of love, and neither does Yoo Hee, although the ominous, tense music tells us we should be feeling something for Joon Ha. Pity? Empathy? Confusion? Whatever it is, Yoo Hee pointedly tells him, “Love doesn’t ask for money,” and leaves.

She meets Mu-ryong at a jewelry store, where he wants to buy her some “handcuffs” so she can’t run away — i.e., couple rings. I swear it doesn’t sound that kinky in Korean. Although the pair she first picks out turns out too be way too expensive for his means, she’s happily satisfied with the simple, less expensive pair they end up with.

While Yoo Hee smiles at her ring and says, “Not too bad, as far as handcuffs go,” Joon Ha dwells on her rejection of him, and forgets to concentrate on the road. He swerves to avoid rear-ending a car, and instead spins out and gets hit by another oncoming vehicle….

I’m sorry (no, I’m not), but I totally laughed. Come on! Look at that expression!

Joon Ha ends up in the hospital, alive but injured. Yoo Hee doesn’t want to visit him, but because Mu-ryong is The Most Understanding Boyfriend Ever, he persuades her to go and check on Joon Ha. It’s okay; she can do that much for him.

She’s alarmed to hear that Joon Ha’s suffered most in his right arm — and may never be able to pick up a knife again. To a surgeon, it’s an awful blow. Joon Ha doesn’t take the news so well either, yelling at Yoo Hee to leave — he doesn’t want her pity, and he doesn’t want to hold onto her using this accident.

Yoo Hee, however, feels an illogical amount of burden and/or guilt (although it makes no sense — what does she owe him?) and meets with Mu-ryong with a heavy heart. Mu-ryong can sense the moody atmosphere, so when Yoo Hee offers to buy him a drink or some ice cream, he stands up to follow her. She insists she can go alone, but he tells her, “It’s because I’m afraid you won’t come back.”

But Yoo Hee wants to go alone anyway. Ominously, she responds with silence when Mu-ryong stops her to say: “You do love me, don’t you?”

Mu-ryong’s intuition synapses are firing on all the right levels, because Yoo Hee doesn’t come back. Instead, she sends a little kid to bring him his ice cream cone, and her half of their couple ring set. Dude. She could’ve at least sent him a non-melty cone. It’s like rubbing salt in the wound, hammering the point in cruelly: YOU ARE TOO LATE. The ice cream of my love is melting and running down the sides of the cone of our happiness, becoming ever more soggy and inedible with time, unable to contain our epic relationship as we are doomed to suffer the winds of fate.

Or maybe it was just a sad little visual.

Yoo Hee cries over her choice, but for reasons that are known to her and nobody else, she feels she’s got to leave Mu-ryong. I don’t know why we’re supposed to understand her return to Joon Ha — she didn’t cause the accident, she isn’t his wife, they weren’t together at the time, and it’s not like Joon Ha’s completely helpless. But she goes back anyway. President Ma is happy at the reuinion, and advises Joon Ha to give up the hospital, since he can’t operate.

The separation leaves Mu-ryong empty and dull, which Johnny sees for himself when he comes to say goodbye. He’s leaving the next day to return to New York, and asks Mu-ryong if he’d consider leaving with him. I presume he means to study and not to go on lots more romantic man-dates together.

.
Over a meal together, Yoo Hee sees Joon Ha struggling to pick up his knife to cut his own steak (hello, heavy-handed metaphor) and cuts up his meat for him. She does so with little affection (because she’s in this relationship for the duty and obligation, silly, not the love!), but in any case, the President observes her actions with a measure of satisfaction and glee, because he is a creepy old man with way too much interest in controlling his daughter’s love life.

But! Yoo Hee steps aside to take a phone call, and is on her way back to the table when she overhears her father talking to Joon Ha about making sure “not to get caught by Yoo Hee.” Because…

…his wrist really isn’t injured! Dun dun dun!

In the privacy of his own office, Joon Ha unwraps his wrist to reveal that it was all fake! I have to hand it to them, they did manage to pull out a surprising twist just when I wasn’t expecting one. It’s unexpected and very Usual Suspects. Stupidly convoluted, but kind of cool just the same. In the absence of cool plot twists so far, I have to appreciate that they pulled ONE out.

But as with all stupid schemes (and it’s truly stupid — did he think he’d live his entire life pretending to have a bum wrist when it’s really fine?), he must be caught. Yoo Hee sees him as he’s about to enter surgery, all smiles and injury-free. (How was he going to explain to Yoo Hee that he had quit the hospital, as she believed, while continuing to work as a surgeon and operating??)

Yoo Hee, President Ma, and Joon Ha all converge as they try to explain what’s going on. Joon Ha asks her to listen to him, and President Ma tries to placate her by saying he’ll explain. But Yoo Hee isn’t having it: “How could a father do this to his daughter? How?”

She wrenches her arm free from Joon Ha’s grasp, just as the President suffers another heart episode, and must be rushed into surgery.

And I’m like, DUDE. YOU JUST USED THAT ONE. Remember last episode? At the wedding? When Yoo Hee wrenched her hand from Joon Ha’s grasp? And the President collapsed clutching his heart? And had to go into surgery? And… oh, forget it.

.

Mu-ryong prepares to leave for New York, and shares one last father-son moment. He promises that this time, he’ll work hard and do his best to learn a lot.

He makes one last phone call to Yoo Hee, and the two say their goodbyes.

Mu-ryong: “I leave tomorrow.”
Yoo Hee: “I know. Johnny told me. You’re leaving in the morning?”
Mu-ryong: “Yes. Yoo Hee… You have to be happy. Okay? And when you’re in trouble, call Superman… even if I can’t come to you… Take care.”

.
President Ma makes it out of surgery safely. Down-spirited, he can’t bring himself to look at Yoo Hee as he tells her that he seems to have no luck in life. (Oh, poor little rich man. Maybe it’s not bad luck. Maybe it’s karma biting you in the ass.) Yoo Hee reaches to hold his hand, but after a moment, the President pushes it aside and tells her, “Go on.”

It looks like he’s rejecting her, but (1) the happy music kicks in to tell us we are meant to take this scene as hopeful, and (2) I have seen My Girl, and this scene is a direct ripoff of the scene in which the Grandfather (same actor!) tells Yoorin he won’t oppose her relationship anymore — and sends her to catch Gong Chan at the airport before he leaves to go abroad. But I’m sure that was just a coincidence too, right?

Furthermore, I don’t know how we’re supposed to buy his sudden change of heart (oh, pun!). Maybe they put something into his medicine.

On her way out the hospital, Yoo Hee runs into Joon Ha, who once again takes her arm in an attempt to hold her back. But she’s in too much of a rush, worried she’ll miss Mu-ryong — she has to get to him before he leaves. Hearing this, Joon Ha slackens his grip, finally letting her go. It’s a nice gesture, but again, I don’t get the sudden change of heart. Maybe he’s sneaking some of the President’s meds.

.

At the airport, waiting for departure, Mu-ryong looks around distractedly for Yoo Hee, disappointed that she’s not arriving. She is instead attempting to hail a cab, but unsuccessfully… and Joon Ha surprises her by pulling up in his car and telling her he’ll drive her there.

But although Mu-ryong stalls and lags behind, holding out hope that Yoo Hee will arrive as boarding time nears, she’s still late. She mentally pleads for him to wait for her, for him not to leave, running through the terminal in vain. The airport’s too big and she can’t find him.

Dejected, she turns to leave, just as Mu-ryong appears……

.
Relieved, she asks why he didn’t go. He envelops her in a hug…

.
….and tells her he missed her.

.
I don’t normally swear that much on this site, but you’ll notice Witch Amusement has been bringing it out in me, especially toward the end. So I give you fair warning before I say:

What the fuck kind of pansy-ass ending is that???

.

ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS:

What happened to Paran? And Sara? And Manager Lee and Hee Jung? And Song Hwa’s modeling career?

What happened to Mu-ryong’s career? Is it really that unimportant? I understand that love is supposed to conquer all, but they guy failed to go abroad HOW many times in this series? And two of those times was in one episode?

What was the point in Mu-ryong promising, in that sweet father-son scene, that this time he’ll really do a good job, if he was just going to give it up ten minutes later?

Sigh.

Witch Amusement, you coulda been good. You coulda even made sense.

Still, I enjoyed watching you. You were very pretty to look at, although somewhat empty-headed, but there are many people in the world like that who seem to suffer no slight for their cognitive deficiencies, so in the long run you’re not so badly off. You had a very talented but creatively wasted director, who may or may not have been frustrated with the plot absurdities. I only wish him many more fulfilling ventures that make more use of his abilities.

Your cast — even the less gifted performers — will all go on to greater careers, I’m sure. I thank you for having the foresight to cast unbelievable eye candy, because at the end of the day, the winning-ness of the actors made you watchable even at your lowest moments. (And you had several.) Jae Hee in particular really saved your tragic ass, so you totally owe him some karmic brownie points. He is so meant to be a star. Han Ga In looked amazing and was dressed to the nines, so I expect many CF engagements for her. I even grew to like Dennis, whom I was initially set to mock with vitriol, but ended up mocking with affection. I hated Joon Ha as a character, but suffer no ill will against Kim Jung Hoon despite it — another mark of talent, isn’t it? And Jeon Hye Bin proved she’s a very lovely woman whose second career as newfound actor may be even better suited to her than her first as B-level dance-singer.

And now you are over. Aw, Witch Amusement, you coulda been a contender. At least you were entertaining. May you retire from the airwaves in peace, to rest and frolic giddily in drama heaven.

ginnie, I have read a bit about Han Ga In and Jae Hee's reactions to the drama... It's kind of tricky, because the Korean entertainment media is labeling Witch Amusement a definitive "failure" so everyone's in a scramble to avoid being blamed. I read an article that said most viewers place 50% of the blame on the writers (as though we could quantify these values so easily!), 30% on the director, and 20% on the cast. Another report placed 70% of the responsibility on the writers, with the rest divided between the director and actors.

Although it would be lovely if everyone could stick together and bear the burden with humility, my PERSONAL opinion is that HGI and JH's admissions of Witch Amusement's failings weren't SO bad. They waited for the show to end completely before uttering one word, at least. I believe Kim Jung Eun experienced similar disillusionment while filming Princess Lulu but she was quite vocal about her criticism during the show's run and threatened to quit mid-series. It was only the threat of being sued for breaching her contract that forced her to continue. (I hope I'm not getting that wrong; I didn't follow Princess Lulu, and by all accounts you can't blame Kim Jung Eun because that series was a disaster.)

Maybe I'm just used to the American entertainment system, which is a lot more open and harsh and tactless about things like this. For instance, you'd never have guessed from Jae Hee's performance that he thought his character was a mess that made no sense -- he committed to that character through the end, that's for sure. And after it's over, I'm glad he can be at ease to admit that it wasn't the best experience ever.

So yeah, it's not the BEST case scenario, but I guess I personally don't hold it against the actors. It WAS a pretty bad script.

I think the korean media was quite harsh on their criticism on the series. Wish they could read your blog and see how much enjoyment we had with the series if only we watch this series in pure fun attitude. I am concerned after reading the articles because the actors are working in Korean entertainment after all. Teamwork and keeping the harmony is something that most Asians value. Confrontational stuff like this is quite uncommon. But I am sure as this goes away, perhaps people will forget and forgive the actors, director and writers for this mess. I am more the kind that would prefer the actors to just let it go..it was said and done. They chose the script and signed the contract, didn't they? I don't know..I could see how American entertainment is more open with criticism and it is good that way too because then we all know what each of them truly felt during filming but maybe timing is a very important thing.

I read another article that Jae Hee came out to say his appreciation for the director...i take it as more polite, he takes some responsiblity but yet he voiced some honest opinions. I think Jae Hee's actions is more tactful than Han Ga In's management.

This just goes to show no matter what...a series' success is really dependant on the script. It is a chain reaction--the script dictates how the director and actors can do later on. I think the % are quite true...although i would use it differently. A series' success is dependant on 50% writers/script, 30% director and 20% actors.

I watched WYH just for Kim Jeong Hoon. My thoughts of the drama... it's a bit too crowded, so many people involved, so many plots to watch out for..

HGI was lucky... to be chased after by 3 gorgeous men!!! Anyhow, I watched it through without sub... didnt understand what they were talking about.... just as a friend who put it bluntly to me - I was just watching it for the eye candy!!

Jisub Addicts Club may gave Kim Jeong Hoon a bad review for his acting, but hey... I love him! Not everyone will love the same people in this world! WE are different in our own ways... who cares!!! I still love KIM JEONG HOON!!!

I have to add my comment about the ending...what kind of ending is that? I felt a bit frustrated watching it towards the end, why can't Yoo Hee make up her mind at the end and what about Mu Ryong's dream of wanting to be a chef... so many things hanging in the air....anyway, I enjoyed this show...

Thanks Javabeans for your website and connecting all the K addicts together! It is quite amazing that we are all from different countries, backgrounds but share the same passion!

Haha, waiting for the next big hit!

Thank you so much for your summaries! I enjoyed reading them. I'm still going to finish the series because it's funny to laugh AT it like you said! I've only seen Jae Hee in 3-Iron so to see him in this, I kind of felt bad for him. I know he's better than this. But he is such a professional and great actor that he stuck it through to the end.

The ending sucks! I wanted to see paran so much! He's so adorable!!!! Thanks a lot for writing the summary for us... And for a non-korean person... lol. The thing I love about Korean dramas is that there's not a lot characters to remember unlike taiwanese dramas (no offense), like almost every episode there are going to be a new character! lol.! Thanks again! Bye! I love Johnny!

hahaha. i LOVE your blogging. now, i can contently move on to another series.. que sera sera, flowers for my life (whatever you've suggested :D), and follow along with your blogging of course.

i agree! same thoughts here on the finale of this drama --- WTF! that's it?! it's like a "make your own ending" thing... too bad for them but i really like the match, "Jae Hee and Han Ga In", they're so cute together and the role of dennis oh, fits him as a chef... but that's it -- yeah reat in peace witch amusement! ;-)

I didn't finish this series at all. I stopped at episode 6, even though I was really skimming 6 episodes...

It just doesn't make sense, the story I mean. I don't know but the whole story and the acting seem too awkward for me and so I stopped, important? No... >_>

Okay, I enjoy your summaries but I'm sorry to say I can't even read everything. Skim through the pictures and already I can tell what happen... +_+"

I'm so glad I didn't waiste 16 hours to watch this, although I did waste about 6... >_>

Thanks, Javabeans, for the summaries. As a working girl, I hardly have time to watch new k-dramas. I totally agree that the ending sucked. It wasn't what I expected. This could have been a wonderful drama especially with Jae Hee in it. I think he's a great actor. However, in totality, I still enjoyed watching Witch Amusement. =)

Hahahahaha! The stitches from my laughter won't subside! I totally agree on the lack of decent make-sense ending. A comment on Dennis if you will, the scenes where they had him being chased by the american chick JUST so they could PROVE that yes, he was BILINGUAL! Hilarium...on toast...with jam!

And...i think the ending would have been better if Johnny and Mu-ryong had been the one's pashing...not that you can really call that pissy kiss pashing but...oh well - maybe it's a cultural thing? lol Would have been one hell of a twist though...

I wish I could have joined in time. But really, I had the same WTF feeling watching this... I was soooo disturbed why Mu-ryong had to look like he was deprived of food when he himself is supposedly a good cook. Okay, I'd forgive the anorexia look but I really don't know what's in the mind of the 'Witch' to drop the hottie of a chef like johnny over him. I thought it was Joon Ha, am sucker for first love but then it was made to fall out for some lame excuse (f@#! i dont remember what it was) I was still hoping he could be the one as he seemed to have sacrificed a lot. But then they had the anorexic guy be the hero. I don't know, but how could yoo hee simply overthrow Seung Mi in Muryong's heart? (have I mixed up the characters now?)... I hate the ending and the inset of kidnapping scene? (i outgrew watching re run of batman n robbin (60's) at 7yrs old cause i felt it was too stupid, but hey here it was again!... aaaaarrrrrgh!!!!! ............... What happened?

why was witch yoohee so bad (when it could've been so good)?

i'll tell u why.
they didn't have an actually scriptwriter.
they had teams of comedy writers who usually write the skits for Korean gag shows. and han ga in did her utmost to pin blame for the disconnected flow of the show on this fact.

Phew... I have finally finished all 16 blogs, must have taken me 2-3 hours as I also read all the comments people have left as well.

Firstly a big thanks to JB for her detailed and hilarious blogs, gives me a very different perspective and this can only enhance my future viewing experience of K-Dramas. I can't speak Korean and I have probably watched 15 or so K-Drama series before this one but I have never ever bothered to read any blogs on any of the previous K-Drama.

I first stumbled upon this site as I was looking for the Coffee Prince OST and this site has a very thorough list of the all the songs used in Coffee Prince OST.

I actually watched this series because of Han Ga In. Before this series, I first watched "Super Rookie" and then "Dr Gang/Kkang". This is quite a different role to the other two series she casted in.

Jae Hee really is great in this series and I have never seen him in any other series before this one. I will certainly watch DGCY after reading some of the good comments about this series on these blogs.

It is a shame this series did not dedicate enough screentime to the two main casts being together. I am a sucker of romantic scenes and there is just not enough of them in this series. I guess I enjoy the cake scene on the bridge more than others because I have not watched DGCY before, I thought it was very touching.

Splitting up the two main leads after they got together in the same episode is not cool. And I thought Jae Hee speech to HGI's father is not touching/convincing enough. Not sure if any of you has seen "The Vineyard Man"? His speech to YEH's parents is much better and touching.

I am not usually very analytical whilst watching K-Drama but having seen "My Girl" before, I noticed that same scene when the father told HGI to go to JH. In "My Girl", the same scene is much more convincing because LDH has endured so much before then. It just seems that the love between HGI and JH in this series is not enduring enough? I was asking myself why did they give up on each other so easily everytime an obstacle is placed in front of them?

Another complaint I have in this series is the poor kissing scenes. The airport kissing scene is probably the best in the whole series but far from being good. I love the kissing scene in the wash room between Kim Rae Won and Kim Tae Hee in "Love Story in Harvard". A question to you all, do you think that this is because HGI is married and hence she is unable to commit to a good kiss???

All in all, I still think this series is a good laugh and I wouldn't say it is bad like some has suggested.

Thanks again to JaveBeans/Sarah for such wonderful summaries on this series. :)

omg omg wahahahahah....lol...i really cant stop laughing after i read you reviews. totally true! i thought im the only person who thought this series is getting boring 'er', but who knows a lot people felt that way!
overall to me, this drama is urm...ok, interesting at first but as i get to episode 10 and above, it's just gotten common, draggy and annoying to the max...the main characters lack chemistry with each other, just so dull (and yeah for an instance i started to think there's a possibility of gay couple in this series - you know wat i mean *wink*), and although the story is so draggy but they decided to end it abruptly. BAM BAM!!! a sudden ending. what the??!!
the soundtrack was ok, nice to hear BUT it is so inappropriate for certain scenes. for example the scene is serious but suddenly a funny tune came out. it's so weird. ruin the mood totally (not that my mood already ruin with the storyline)
i would however thought this series as being average and common, not worst, because i've seen a drama much more worse than this. but after read your reviews (that is totally hilarious, from eps 1-5, you review this drama as great but as it comes to eps 14-16, your review gave an impression that you are bored the hell out with the storyline that are so ridiculous, lame and so typical that it is cheesy). so again, after i read you reviews, im starting to think that this drama is among the worst i have ever seen.
i really enjoy reading your reviews regarding witch yoo hee, i laugh my lungs out, it is hillarious! thanks for the reviews!

Personally, I really enjoyed watching Witch Amusement... Very entertaining & and very natural acting, esp fr Jae Hee. It's one of the BEST Korean dramas for me cos some Korean dramas are often draggy and exaggerating with lots of tears or with characters trying to act cute or even stupid :) Love Jae Hee's acting, he's got GREAT CHARISMA. Han Ga In is pretty and cute in her own way...

Thanks for these. You put my love-hate for this series perfectly into words. I stopped watching Witch Amusement around the 8th episode, but read your recaps 'til the end.

whoa..it was really good reading your recaps though I've already watched the entire drama..i watched it because of jae hee..hehe..I enjoyed watching him in 'Delightful Girl Choon Hyang'..the lines at the end of the drama were very touchy and i can't help myself but to shed tears (delightful girl choon hyang drama)..

well, jae hee did great in this drama (witch amusement). he's so versatile. and i love his simplicity and charisma though he's not that stunning actor like dennis o'..but i love jae hee..that's it! hehe..i loved the cooking thingy.Ü but i was quite disappointed on how it ended. but still, i enjoyed watching it! i did not regret spending late nights watching the episodes! thank you for the recaps..you did very well! ^__^

My wife and I just finished watching this series (we are not Korean) and although the script was poor - we found that the cast, particularly Han Ga In were very good.

The character Yoo Hee was oddly very attractive, and there were quite a few funny bits dotted throughout the series.

The script could have been better, and they certainly had talented actors and actresses who could have made more of it had there been a better script.

No point beating about the bush and brushing faults under the carpet otherwise the next series will be the same, best to air out the problems so they can move on to produce something really good.

Well done Han Ga In and the rest of the cast.

Ohh and if anybody knows where I can get hold of (including legitimately) the ringtones actually used in the series (as opposed to ringtones of the OST) my wife and I would be very grateful.

That is, the ringtone on Yoo Hee's mobile when in rings during the series and Mu Rung's mobile ringtone.

Thanks

JB, you are truly amazing. Love your hilarious writing style!
I am gald I stopped watching Witch JH around Ep. 10. So I am not so "pissed" off about the stupid ending. :0) I quit watching because I love Jae Hee too much; I just can't bear to see him in such ill scripted drama. 0(
But now he'll be gone for two years..sniff, sniff... Maybe I should just watch the show so I can see him. 0)

ahahah... your comments are awesome!! :DDD

well I am aound 5th episode but I read it because I really wondered what willl happen in the end but it really sucks since I could not believe that "all of this happened in one episode" you must be kidding:D well actually I always thought that they will marry and yoo hee will be a mom since when she was a kid she kept saying I want to be a mom like you etc. whatever again the feeling of dissatisfaction.....

hi Javabean,

Witch Yoo Hee is one of my fave K-drama series!

Would you know the name of the Building they filmed the drama...the condominium/flat of Ma Yoo Hee...and its exact location? was it in Seoul Korea??? it would be great if you'll be able to tell me...I think that same building was aLso used in some other K-drama series like Spring Days.

Thanks!

I've read your review of this drama series and I agree !!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought it will be one good Kdrama to see and to finish but boy I was soooooo wrong, I couldn't finish it. I stopped at episode 8, I'm having a hard time watching the rest of the series, so I would skip a few scenes and forward the series on the next episodes just to see if I'll get my interest back ....... aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh ...... it's draining my brain cells ... hahahahahaha..........

The ending really, really, really sucks!!!!!!

Great review by the way. Thanks! I know you wrote this review long time ago but I still agree :)

But I'm not saying that I will not be watching Kdrama's anymore, I love most of the series that I watched and I have many favorites but their will be some bad apples in the basket sometimes. I really love watching most Kdrama's, so I will be looking out for your blog and look into your reviews :)

Thanks!

What the fuck kind of pansy-ass ending is that???

AGREED. i am very disappointed =[
this drama had potential--the story was really good.
unfortunately everything seemed to go downhill.
it drove me nuts! i can't believe i wasted time on this.

anyway, thanks for the recaps, it saved me more time than
fast forwarding.

After a lot of time you made your comments I'm here! hahaha But I just finished to watch it. I completely agree with all your thoughts, especially the part of the empty ending. That's why I say its a funny drama, but you hardly will keep it on mind later. I had fun, I laugh a lot with everybody (except with the president and the 'yuraforevah' haha) and I liked there wasn't any big passage of time (as usually happens), but i stayed in front my pc like "huh? I forgot to download 17th episode??" Oh, and I love the screen caps you choose to your posts!

haha! To be fair and honest, I think Witch Amusement could've used less fluff with the romance and more on concluding all the side stories going on like Paran, Joon Ha's hospital, Jae Hee's career, the manager and Yoo hee's assistant! We seriously could've skipped the accident part and Jae Hee and Yoo Hee running away to france together! That wouldve been a great ending!

But in all honesty, I just thought Jae Hee was smoking hot in this drama! That is the only reason why I watched it. I miss him, come back Jae Hee!
