More character stills from Style

I was looking at these new stills for the SBS drama Style, and all I could think was: What, they couldn’t spring for an actual set? What’s with the dull blue backdrop? Psst producers, bluescreening is a technique toward an end, not an end in itself! (It’s a relatively small detail, but I think it washes out the entire photo shoot and makes it look bland.)

The new weekend drama has some big shoes to fill when it takes up the Saturday-Sunday slot vacated by the current ratings powerhouse Brilliant Legacy. The fashion drama stars Lee Jia, Kim Hye-soo, and Ryu Shi-won and is set in the cutthroat world of fashion magazines.

Style airs its first episode on August 1.

In this “Korean Devil Wears Prada,” lead actress Lee Jia takes on the Anne Hathaway-like reporter character who joins the fashion magazine as a normal, average-looking woman. She has to adapt to the fast-paced, competitive work culture there and transforms into a fashionista:

Kim Hye-soo once again draws upon her glamorous image as a senior editor:

Ryu Shi-won also works at the magazine as (I think?) a reporter:

Lee Yong-woo is a model who has mostly been noticed for being partnered with Yoon Eun-hye in an advertisement; now he branches out into acting with this role as a fashion magazine photographer:

Hmmm...you are right. Not getting good vibes from these drabby stills. Kim Hye-soo looks stunning though. Will have to wait and see.

lol the irony of having Anne Hathaway on the cover of the magazine she's holding. Perhaps it was done on purpose so we could join The Devil Wears Prada connection?

Kim Hye Soo is just fabulous. Lee Jia looks like a little innocent girl compared to her.
She's sooo sexy!

Don't like the stills at all. Weird poses, weird color of the clothes, and seems no concept for the photo shoots.

I'm optimistic about this drama. I really want to see Lee Jia's transformation.

However, I wish they casted good-looking male actors.

Wouldn't the blue background be because they will add background later?

All those clothes are a big NO! My goodness. I thought the worst fashions I had ever seen were in Spring Waltz. The color combinations in that drama were hideous, especially Henney's. I now stand corrected.

Yes, I think the blue screen is for chromo keying later in posters, websites and whatnot.

So much for a fashion-centered drama when not much of the fashion shown here is very creative... at all. Yeesh. Just what the hell is Ryu Shiwon wearing, seriously?? And why does Lee Jiah have like 50 things on her wrist and on her hand?

Not feeling this at all.

This just adds all the more reasons why I'm not too excited for Style. A drama about style, when the outfits are horrendous!

Only Kim Hye Soo lookes the best here. Her outfit is the best, and despite the absolutely bland background (which, everyone may have looked better if the background didn't have to be blue), no matter how distracting it can be, your attention is still focused on Kim Hye Soo.

I didn't like Lee Jia in Beethoven Virus so I'm a bit doubtful on this one. I didn't even finish the 1st episode because of her :( So I'm not looking forward on this one, which helps, so I can have time to watch other dramas :)

Oh, good so it wasn't just me... when I first saw those stills a few days ago, I thought they looked quite horrid! It's ironic that this is all about fashion when it doesn't even seem to meet the standard of a usual drama photoshot *shakes head* I like Lee Ji Ah, but I've been dubious to this drama from the beginning...

Okay...I liked that purple dress until I realized the seam at the bottom of the skirt was completely bad. You can tell in the second picture that there is fraying at the bottom. So not cool. And the blue background is definitely a wrong choice.

The drama doesn't look that bad but it just doesn't catch my attention. Is there any news on Magazine Allo?

I'll still check this out, because of Kim Hye-so.

I probably shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but this drama doesn't seem very appealing to me. Kim hye soo looks fabulous by the way. Too bad the rest of the cast is a big bore.

@ 10 SAMSOOKI

yes, seems like it......

If it's not, then i totally agree with JavaB....it's very boring.... the backdraft, the poses, the clothes....very disappointing ......

??? are those two guys supposedly be gays? just wondering.... not very appealing outfits( those two guys are wearing).... or is it because of the dull blue background?

@BISCUIT
RE: FIRST PARAGRAPH...
yes, you are right too....*grinning*

anyway, we will see.....

just adding:

and why oh why did she have to pose with that magazine?! Makes me want to roll my eyes and say, "yeah, yeah, yeah, we got it loud and clear!!! Geez!"
(makes it look, unfortunately, cheap and trying so hard...)

(oopss i meant backdrop not draft...lol! ^-^)

Lee Ji Ah is usually lucky in her ratings for dramas, but after Shining Inheritance... I don't know, the cast doesn't seem like it beats Lee Seung Ki/ Han Hyo Joo~!

I guess LJA got the role partly because she studied fashion before? But I can't compare her with Anne Hathaway :-) Her sense of fashion well, I can't comment, it's weird. but I bet this drama will be successful because at least, Kim Hye Soo. LJA is very lucky because she always has some big name guarantee for her drama, ie. BYJ and KMM before.

i think lee ji ah looks great here. lee yong woo, he's a hot guy, but these pictures of him here are pretty bad. ryu si won is not a reporter, he's playing kim hye soo's ex, an owner of a restaurant who is previously a plastic surgeon

I'm not getting the "Style" vibe especially after 'tasting' the fashion sense from the pictures above. I hope the wardrobe designer or coordinator for the drama has better fashion sense or else I'm not sure if it's going to be able to stand itself up as a fashion drama. It'll definitely have a tough act to follow with "Shining Inheritance" having such high ratings.

Lee Ji Ah is so meh to me. Luckily she's always casted along with big named celebrities like BYJ and KMM, so she's pretty much had it handed to her on a silver platter from the beginning of her career.

KHS, i always loved her style, she has such a sophisticated look.

Ryu Si Won, I hope he has improved on his acting cause his dramas and acting has been a snoozefest.

Lee Yong-woo isn't he the naked model in bed with Yoon Eun Hye in that controversial W mag shoot? I remember thinking he was fine...but in these pics not so much. I hope his acting is at least average.

I dont find this drama appealing, but I will give it a chance, if by the 4th episode I can't get into it, then adios Style.

are they running out of plot ideas? why adapt a foreign story instead of creating a new one? (well, sort of.)

i so love anne hathaway... so this better be good or else I might just opt not to watch any SBS shows... EVER.
