Creating Destiny holds first script reading

The first script rehearsal for MBC’s new drama Creating Destiny (aka Making Fate or 인연만들기), was actually held almost two weeks ago on August 31 at the Ilsan Dream Center, although the photos have just now been released. In attendance were the drama’s leads — Eugene (Yoga School), Jung Seok-won (Brilliant Legacy), and Ki Tae-young (Terroir) — as well the supporting cast (Byun Woo-min, Kim Jung-nam, Im Hyun-shik, Kang Nam-gil, Geum Bora).

Creating Destiny is based on a mixing of two novels by romance fiction writer Hyun Go-woon. In it, a man who has no interest in marriage meets a woman who comes to Korea to marry her Westerner boyfriend. This upbeat romance series reunites its director Jang Geun-soo (Chunja’s Happy Events) with writer Hyun, as the two collaborated on the popular 2003 drama 1% of Anything.

PD Jang told his production and actors to think of the drama as in between a romance manhwa and novel: “It may be a little unrealistic, but we will tell a fun story.”

Eugene plays a woman who moved to Australia in her childhood and is now about to become a lawyer, which will make good use of her fluent English skills. She has a younger sister played by Kang Byul, who was recently in the high school horror movie Suicide Pact. Ki Tae-young, who played a doctor in White Tower, is again a doctor here and plays a perfectionist, prickly character.

Following its initial script rehearsals, the production heads to Australia this month for location shoots. The drama airs on MBC weekends following Tamra the Island, and premieres October 10.

Have they found someone to play her Western boyfriend yet?

Wasn't she originally supposed to be from Canada? But whatever, I suppose all Western countries are the same, just like all Eastern countries. :P

I might check this out, out of curiosity. It doesn't seem particularly compelling to me, but whatever.

Instead of Australia, why just shoot in Guam. I thought Eugene grew up in Guam?

I hope this will be a better series for Eugene than Three Dads and One Mom which I really couldn't watch, because it was so dumb and made everyone look like dorks.

I've only seen Eugene in one drama, Wonderful Life, which I adore (don't spoil me on it, I still have 2 episodes to go!) and I'm looking forward to seeing her in something else. She does speak English pretty well, last time I heard her. You can hear a bit of an accent, but it's almost non-existent.

Who is the guy they say is from Brilliant Legacy?

But. . .I'm a little confused.

Why would the character go to Korea to marry a Western boyfriend? And what does 'man who is not interested in marriage' have to do with anything? I like that the director admits right off the bat that it's going to be unrealistic. I do hope they come out with more plot details, but I think Eugene is enough for me to want to watch this.

Also, another lawyer drama? *sigh* I feel like the last few dramas I've seen are lawyer dramas.

OMG Australia! Do you know where? Hopefully Melbourne and not Sydney, since that's where MiSa Ep.1 was shot and Melbourne is just a better city :D Must.....Meet.....Eugene.

I think the guy that they mentioned from brilliant legacy was young suk-hwan's friend who owns the bar and makes eun woo play piano for him.

the storyline sounds refreshing, plus i personally like 1% of everything. The PD and scripwritters line up also looks promising. Looking forward for this drama.

Thanks for the news!

Hmmm...when I first heard about this, I thought the whole thing would be about her wanting to marry her Western boyfriend and her family protesting...now it looks like the Korean guy will actually be the main male lead.

yay! i love Kim Eugene and Kim Tae-young!! It's been awhile since she was in a drama and i missed her plus the drama sounds interesting (but then again I'm biased lol)

Wow all the shows I've been into lately are all sat/sun shows or at least 50 episodes long...just something i noticed lol XD I just feel that the shorter dramas are to rushed and predictable lately =/ But that doesn't mean the others aren't XP

@Kobe,

It would be totally sweet if half the show was just spoken in English. I mean, Eugene + Western Boyfriend = conversation in Canadian, right? RIGHT?

It's probably in Sydney. Whenever they do anything in Australia, it's in Sydney. Better location shots and all that.

Logically, if she was really looking for an Western speaking boyfriend, they should shoot this in Melbourne. But, as I see it, it would be really awesome if they shot this in Perth. Because nothing happens in Perth. It's like a location shoot in California and choosing Fresno. :D

The very person who hooked me hopelessly into KDrama in the first place...I'd follow Eugene anywhere! (Also, with her speaking English in parts, I'll be able to avoid diverting my eyes to read the subs giving more time to drink in the opulance of her beautiful face!!!)

It is more likely Sydney cause you can realize the Sydney Harbour Bridge anywhere and they will probably include that in the location shots
Can't wait to see Eugene!

Watched CREATING DESTINY in its entirety in USA. It was an excellent drama especially with the characters of Eugene and Ki Tae Young. A lighthearted enjoyable romance. Eugene is beautiful actress and Ki Tae Young is one handsome bro. We hope to see a lot more of the lead actors. This is a 5+ drama if everyone enjoys the positive, the love, the laughter/funny, the sad and even the annoying characters of this drama.

LOVED CREATING DESTINY

And now they are getting married for real on the 23 July. Who would have thought by looking at the above pictures of the both of them that this drama would hold such a significant moment for them. Their destiny was created for them with this first script reading.
