lol @ ockoala -- I have been known to marvel at a header myself, although I can't claim any credit for that at all. I'm really grateful to have such artistically inclined people willing to give me great banners! (But usually I'll open up a new tab and keep the old one to look at. HAHA.)

refresh button?
Back when it was Lee Da Hae all day, all the time (obsessive much?), I just refreshed the OT until I got to the banner.
Then it was Kim Ah-Joong, Chae-Rim, Kim Myung Min, my KJH, Sung Yuri, YEH....
Now, I just refresh to browse my favs.

I'll never get another City Hall banner. It's too hard.

@ b020
Well, in the case of RDJ, I've given him a second chance simply because of how hard he's worked to build his life back up. He's okay enough now with his drug abuse that he's able to joke about it, and for me that's a sign of really pulling through. One friend of mine has been off drugs and alcohol for almost 5 years now, and she's not stable enough to joke about it. Talk, yeah? But she can't laugh about her situation.
Re Polanski, I don't know. His whole case is such a grey area that I haven't decided if I'm going to stop watching his stuff. I feel like he was vastly mistreated in the justice system (which is a big personal NO NO for me), but he obviously did something horribly wrong. I hate how he's glorified in Europe, but at the same time, I do feel like not being allowed to come back to the US ever is a punishment, you know? He had a life here.
I guess for me, it really depends on the person. I have no issues at all watching Woody Allen movies, and let's be honest. His personal life is...woah, like crazy. And gross.

I think RDJ is a vastly different case from Polanski. I can understand if someone doesn't respect RDJ for his mess of a personal life, but the key difference is that RDJ hurt himself -- he abused drugs and consequently his mess spilled over into his professional life when drugs interfered with work, but he did not physically commit a crime against other people.
Polanski raped a 13 year old girl. No gray area there -- he admitted it. He drugged her with a Quaalude tablet and alcohol and raped her. She protested and he kept going. He asked if he could rape her anally, and she said no. He did it anyway. He pled guilty. If you read the transcripts of testimony, they're disgusting and appalling. He got wind that the judge was going to give him a harsher punishment than his plea bargain, so he fled the country to escape justice. Crime crime crime. Why should his artistic genius forgive a heinous grievance committed upon another person? It was rape, plain and simple, and his money and privilege should not exclude him from having to pay the price.

@ 55 Samsooki
DO NOT GIVE UP, the search for the City Hall header has taken me from the time I posted the last comment until now (by posting my comment it went away - aigoo), and now my index finger hurts (but thanks for the nod, JB, we've all got some fangirly in us, don't we all?).
My search determined that there are 2 different City Hall headers - (1) the aforementioned proposal scene set to Moon River, all the christmas lights ever sold in Inju city, and one line of dialogue that only the great Jo Gook could utter ("Will you dance with me at my inauguration? - gah, clutching chest in pain, the pain of love and admiration), and (2) the Seoul date (kiss, cuddle, hug, rinse, repeat, it never gets old) plus the Tango.
The journey to returning to the CH header holy grain did not bypass as many Kim Bums and Kim So Euns as Samsooki did (it was close), but I hit about 30 different roadblocks consisting of Jung Il-woo (all good, JIW is all good in my book, cuz he's not sporting the lego hair in any of the headers).
I also found some never before seen headers, which I have either overlooked or are also brand spanking new - (1) header of This Mishil and the ever round-faced Doekman (go QSS craziness!), (2) the header of So Ji Sub and what looks like his mini-me, and (2) a header of SJS's mini-me, Jang Geun-soek, and Kim Bum, all set to a rainbow as the background, which is so subliminally funny and unnecessarily wrong, but so right.
I've also taken JB's advice to heart, and opened up another page to write this comment, cuz, again I ain't ever letting go of that CH header I found after such long arduous refreshing.
Happy Friday everyone, before I forget!

Re: The whole Roman Polanski thing
I've already stressed myself out this week thinking about it. Seriously, I broke out, that's how angry and stressed it made me.
The fact that people are excusing what he did and signing a petition to FREE HIM? I HAVE NO WORDS. WHAT THE FUCK????
First of all, they call what Polanski did, which was CHILD RAPE, a 'case of morals'. OH REALLY? A CASE OF MORALS??? THANKS, I'LL BE SURE TO KEEP THAT IN MIND. RAPE = A CASE OF MORALS.
Don't let me get into Whoopi Goldberg and her ridiculous term "rape-rape". "It's not rape-rape." OH REALLY WHOOPI?? I DIDN'T REALIZE THERE WERE SUB-CATEGORIES OF RAPE.
I honestly don't see how people could even start to defend him. I'm so ashamed of Hollywood right now. The defenses that people are giving are so damn weak.

And you know what's sad?
How everyone is Hollywood is sucking Roman Polanski's dick. Sorry, that's vulgar but that's how it is.
The fact that major studio heads like Harvey Weinstein and huge directors are all for the 'freedom' of Roman Polanski, means that people are scared to even speak out against him!!
Come on! The most vocal person AGAINST Polanski is Kirstie Alley, and she's FAR from being influential in today's media. Big names in Hollywood are jumping to his defense but no one is jumping at him. Meanwhile, if this were just some low level reality star or B-level actor being charged with CHILD RAPE and ESCAPING, everyone would have an opinion.
But because it's an amazing director who has 'omg been through so much blah blah blah', all of a sudden it's okay to excuse the fact that he drugged and raped (vaginally AND anally) a 13 year old child. And admitted it. And BRAGGED ABOUT IT. And DID IT AGAIN, with a friends son. Seriously, the more I read about the case and the history, the angrier I get.

@ mishane
Go ahead and vent on RM, what gets me everytime is that he has spent the last 30 YEARS a free man, except for not being able to visit certain countries because he willingly and knowingly made himself a fugitive. Otherwise, he had every single freedom he did not deserve, and now he's 76, and if and when he is sentenced, it certainly doesn't feel to me like he's truly being punished.
I love for any criminal to say - hey, I'm young, let me live my life free, and when I'm at my death bed and old and decrepit, I'll come in to serve my time. That's what RM did for himself. I take comfort in knowing that true public opinion, worldwide, is overwhelming for him to go back to the US and accept whatever punishment is merited. It's just that the media is picking up on the pocket of media and entertaiment elites that are mind-bogglingly vocal on this subject. But even the NYT, LAT, major newspapers, have all noted that its like 400 to 1 in support of dragging Polanski's a** back to the US in all the reader letters written.
I like to think the people of the world for the most part do not condone, apologize for, and re-write the laws for famous people.

Actress Kirstie Alley wrote on Twitter "JUST FOR THE RECORD....RAPE IS RAPE...this is one HOLLYWOOD STAR who does not CELEBRATE or DEFEND Roman Polanski..his ART did not RAPE her."
-------------------------
Terry O'Neill, president of the National Organization for Women, said it is understandable that Geimer would want to move on given what has occurred.
"I think that it's deplorable that some celebrities, and I emphasis the word 'some,' are supporting rape, supporting the destruction of the life of a 13-year-old girl," O'Neill said. "You look at what happened to the victim in this case and how she was re-victimized over and over again. First by [Polanski] himself when he claimed it was consensual, then by his pals all powerful, wealthy celebrities who supported him, then by the media who characterized her as the little Lolita, the 13-year-old temptress."
-------------------------
The most disappointing one, to me? Peg Yorkin is the Feminist Majority Founder and she actually told the LA Times that:
"My personal thoughts are let the guy go," said Peg Yorkin, founder of the Feminist Majority Foundation. "It's bad a person was raped. But that was so many years ago. The guy has been through so much in his life. It's crazy to arrest him now. Let it go. The government could spend its money on other things."'
ACKKKKKKK. How could any person in their right mind say this?
The excuses I've heard so far are this:
1) He's been through a lot . . . .Okay, and that excuses him how? I'm sure there are a lot of people who've "been through a lot", but they don't rape little girls.
2) He served his time already. . . . .He served ~40 days! And then, when he was up for sentencing (and apparently, the MOST he would do would be 90 days) he escaped! And kept running and evading.
3) The victim is over it. . . . YES, well the law does not exist to serve the victim only. If that were the case, then all domestic violence cases would be dropped. Anyone whose taken a General Psychology course knows that most rape victims DON'T WANT to go through the trial, through the media circus. That's why Polanski's sentence was plea bargained to so little, because of the victim. The law serves to show people that there are things that are wrong and when you do wrong things, you get punished. If every victim excused their attacker, then are they free to go? "No Judge, I forgave him. It's cool. You can let him go." No! It doesn't work that way!
There are so many other ridiculous defenses that Polanski was arrested when he was in his comfort zone about to accept an award (OH NO! CHILD RAPIST NEEDS ADVANCE WARNING BEFORE ARREST SO HE CAN ESCAPE TO HIS EUROPEAN CHALETS AND VILLAS) that the victim didn't look like a 13 year old (OH REALLY? I CAN'T. . .I CAN'T EVEN) and so many many more.
Okay. I'm done. I've ranted enough. I can't even get started on this without getting upset.

ok i am in no way condoning what RP did and i believe he should still be punished accordingly even though it's 30 years later and he's lived his 'full life' still working and essentially being free. However, i also read that the even the victim just wants the case to be thrown out already. she doesn't want to be back in the limelight and doesn't want to relive the horror. i wonder, from a legal standpoint, does she have any say in all this, as she was the one who was most affected.
and re: RDJ - i agree with JB and gallivanter - yes he committed a crime by misusing drugs and alcohol and it affected his professional life, but he overcame it and has come back a stronger and better person i believe. i enjoy watching his works still cuz i've seen how he's grown and changed and tried his best to redeem himself. and i can't wait for Sherlock Holmes :)

The Polanski case in my mind is two separate cases: sex and legal. The plea bargain only happened because the girl's family didn't want her to take the stand--completely understandable because she was a child. But for the judge to go back and order more jail time because HE screwed up? It's infuriating. The judge shouldn't have taken the case in the first place, but he did because he wanted to be famous. He was lenient because Polanski was famous, and now look at the mess.

Last quote. I promise.
From Roman Polanski's mouth himself. During an interview he gave to Martin Amis in 1979, which was the year after he ran away:
"If I had killed somebody, it wouldn't have had so much appeal to the press, you see? But … fucking, you see, and the young girls. Judges want to fuck young girls. Juries want to fuck young girls. Everyone wants to fuck young girls!"

The thing is, the judge didn't do anything illegal. It was within his right to reject a plea -- and the prosecutor who supposedly interfered came out this week and admitted he lied. Meaning, the biggest reason to support Polanski's flight has now been discredited. Polanski fled in ANTICIPATION of threat to his plea bargain. Even in the case of judicial misconduct, he should have stayed, received his sentence, and fought back. Fleeing the country before sentencing is a crime.
(btw, I'm not trying to convince you that you can't have sympathy for Polanski or that you have to hate him. But I just can't sympathize with him.)

Oh no! Don't take what I say as fact! That's just how I feel about it; I think the law should exist to serve society and not just the victim. I don't have a background in law so I don't know if that's actually the case. But to me it makes sense; I mean, just because you are forgiven by the person does not mean you should be free of punishment.

@ lovenyc52 and mishane
In a criminal case, whether the victim of a crime forgives the alleged perpetrator is ONE factor the prosecutor of the case may take into consideration when deciding whether to press charges, and what charges to press. After all, if the victim forgives the prepetrator, realistically it may be harder to convict the perp. if the victim (usually the key eyewitness or best able to recount the crime) doesn't want to cooperate. Then we'll need a material witness order, force the victim to testify, victim unwillingly tesitfies, the jury hears such begrudging testimony, one wonders what they'll think? Yup, not as convincing a case.
In a civil case, if the victim forgives, it just means the victim won't press charges, then no case - end of story.
The Polanski matter is a criminal case, of course, so the victim can't unilaterally ask for the case to be dismissed, that's the decision to be made by the public prosecutor representing the State of CA. And let's not forget that the victim DID NOT forgive RM back then, she's only forgiven him in the intervening 30 years. As such, he did the crime, he can do the time. He has all the appeals mechanism available to every accused, use it.
@ birdscout

I'm just being totally glib about the header of Yoo Seung-ho, Jang Geun-soek and Kim-bum, me love all three for the cheek-pinching adorableness of them.
If you google Rainbow Flag, you'll see what the predominate connotation of rainbow is. With JGS about to start airing You're Beatiful, which I have renamed You're a Greasy Fairy, I just found the rainbow background an apt choice considering JGS is being all sparkly, metrosexual, in the new drama. Again, I love your new banners, this one included, just me being silly, is all! Mwah, thanks for the hard work, I have zero aptitude for these things.

Sorry to interrupt! (but isn't that the point of Open Thread? :D )
Has anyone been following Dream?
I just wanna know if it gets any better after the first 5 episodes. Deciding if I want to go back and watch it.
Help me out please!

I just finished watching When It's At Night (because it was recently uploaded on DramaFever) I gotta say.... I heard some bad things about it which is why it took me so long to actually watch it.
But I really enjoyed it a lot. Like other dramas it's got it's faults but not to the extent that it was a failure (well maybe in terms of the ratings, which I heard were bad)...
I just wanna ask: What gives?
Was there something in this drama that was legitimately lacking (that I obviously didn't notice)? Maybe I'm just making too big a deal....I am kind of mad I waited so long to watch it when it was better than most people said it would be...not that I normally follow what other people say or do....but a consensus is a telling indicator.

@ 97 Sig
OHH I just started When It's At Night (on episode 4 now) and LOVING IT! The first episode was so fun. I was also surprised that it didn't get as much love. I mean Lee Dong Gun sex on a stick and Kim Sun Ah looks really pretty in it.
No but seriously, Lee Dong Gun. Gah, what I would do to be alone in a room with that man.

So Friday is the SLOWEST DAY EVER in my office. By 10 AM, work is done. Which means from 11-6 it's up to me (and my coworkers) to entertain ourselves.
I just went into my supervisors office and re-arranged all her books, changed her screensaver and turned over her computer.
I just got chased around the office by one of the orthopedic surgeons. He was spraying this numbing spray at me. This is a usual Friday, lol.
The point of this was to give you guys some websites to browse if you're ever really bored. The two I frequent on Fridays (and which CRACK ME UP) are:
lamebook
and
textsfromlastnight
(just put .com at the end).
Lamebook is a site where people make fun of lame people on facebook, by putting up screencaps of stupid conversations, embarassing parentel interventions, etc.
textsfromlastnight is. . well. . .funny text messages that users submit.
I've wasted many an hour on these websites.
