@95 Samsooki

So glad you brought over belleza's Won Bin YT vid from the previous OT! Dressed all in white (like an angel); running his fingers through his long, flowing locks (Mane! Of! Glory!) because, dammit, he really IS just that beautiful...ahhh. Like buttah. :-D

@96 pabo seo reom

I finished Dream this week; whether or not you enjoy it depends on what you want out of it. If you're looking for romance, forget it; but if you appreciate bromance, then stick with it! If you're into dramas with a nasty, seemingly unstoppable villain, then this is your show. If you can suspend disbelief enough to believe that Kim Bum could ever actually defeat ANY of his opponents in the boxing ring, then this is the one for you!

My honest reason for watching this drama? To gaze at Kim Bum. Yep. That's all I needed. Joo Jin-mo was just the cherry on top of my Kim Bum cupcake.

I just got the "Who Are You" banner and laughed my ** off. Now, that's a great banner for a Friday!

Re Polanski, why has it taken more than 30 years to try to get him? He hasn't been in France all that time, has he? I remember feeling so sorry for him when his wife (Sharon Tate) was murdered, and then feeling so completely disgusted back when this initially came out. Hate finding out I've enjoyed one of his movies (normally try not to watch them). Awful, awful man. Sick! Would gladly contribute to cost of extraditing him.

Rape is rape - how can anyone deny that? Rape of a 13yr old is even more heinous - how can that be denied? Yet I am astounded and saddened by how many people ignore the facts of the RP case and jump to his defense. I have truly lost respect for anyone who defends this man and that's why I posted my original post.

To think that people are now trying to lessen the crime into a trite 'case of morals' just makes me even more depressed. Women have fought for years to even get rape to be considered a crime and to be taken seriously. Even today, most cases of rape go unreported.

I'm so sad...

@Sig Re: WIAN

I finished this couple days ago too. Just my personal opinion but I think the main problem to WIAN is that it started to focus too strongly on the background story and as a result the "romantic action" in the series kindda dropped as a whole in the later episodes..thus it got a little boring for me. Also, maybe I'm spoilt by City Hall now but I felt no chemistry between the leads in this.

@ 97 Sig (and for mishane, who's just starting to watch)

When It's At Night - what did you like about it? I can give you a whole litany of critiques of WIAN's shortcomings, and it can be said that sure there are people who liked it, but on the whole, it appears more people didn't much like it.

I watched WIAN, after I watched City Hall (big, gigantic no, no), I was on a Kim Su Na high. I found WIAN entertaining for the chemistry and interaction between KSA and LDG - it was nice in the beginning.

But the plot device and set-up of WIAN was very problematic for me from the get go, and half-way through, it felt like the writers gave up on writing an interesting story and plot development and handed the entire thing to a bunch of pages just waiting to show off their writing skills, which was nil.

I was so confused, bemused, and flabbergasted through the latter half of the drama - and when it was clear that KSA and LDG mentally checked out as well, then I finished it out of inertia to turn it off, and that was it.

Just my 2 cents as someone who didn't like WIAN. I think the ratings for WIAN reflects that, because otherwise, KSA and LDG are stars that should normally draw in high ratings, but it appears their collective star power couldn't save WIAN.

If the writers had just chucked the entire father's death, Hong Gil Dong, evil collector story out the window (it was ridiculous) and just focused on KSA-LDG and their chemistry, interaction, love-affair, I would have enjoyed it a lot more.

Kinda like what is happening in My Fair Lady. I've discovered MFL doesn't have a plot, it's just a series of YEH-YSH scenes, which I adore, so it's the sole saving grace. If MFL actually tried to have a plot (which IMO it never attempted to do so), then it would have been a failure even more so than it already is in some respects.

It's okay to be in the minority on a drama - I think I love dramas that are probably regarded as fluff and/or crap, but that's just my random taste for ya.

I think Jung Il-woo is following me......he's my personal avatar everytime I refresh, I get a different JIW header. Again, I think it more apt if he follows JB or langdon or hjkomo - all who have finished Return of Iljimae and can appreciate JIW more. Else he is following me for making fun of his stylized helmut hair in MFL.

So Won Bin once sported a KimuTaku, Yutaka, Jerry Yan late nineties tresses of love, cuz all who lay eyes on the mane, must fall in love with the said owner of the luxurious purposely unkempt shiny tresses. Interesting....look for him.

Thanks for the translation, Samsooki! Lol-cats.

Future hair to look out for - Jang Geun-Soek in You're a Greasy Fairy (self-explanatory), Lee Byun-hun in I've got mad spy hair (I will not be looking at the hair, but at everything else below it), and lastly, Oh Ji-ho and Jang Hyuk in I'm wrong-fully accused, battling societal injustice, searching for Lee Da-hae damn-why-do-I-even-need-hair-its-getting-in-the-way-of-our-mano-a-mano showdown in Chuno (again, I can care less if they have hair).

@ langdon-unni

I would not call what my new beloved sported in The Restless "The Mane of Glory" - it's more aptly titled - "The Mane of Distress."

My new vocabulary consists of three words, which I repeat in a continuous loop - Jung Woo-sung. Mega sigh, alzheimers never looked so luminous.

Polanski allegedly DRUGGED a 13 year old girl, RAPED her and performed SODOMY on a THIRTEEN YEAR OLD GIRL. Justice is long, long overdue.

On a happier note...

Congrats to Sung Yuri for her most successful drama to date! STS is consistently #1 or 2 in the rankings (though you wouldn't know it from this website ;^) . Anyways congrats and I hope her film shares equal success, look interesting.

So I finished MiSa last night. I wonder how many of us addicts have had this same conversation with our spouses/partners (except for Samsooki, who has the extreme good fortune to be married to Mrs. Samsooki, who actually watches dramas with him. What a concept).

Anyway. MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD.

Husband: What's wrong with you?

Me: Okay see, Moo Hyuk is an orphan who got shot at his former skank-ho's wedding (sniff). And now he's stuck with a bullet IN HIS HEAD, and is DYING (sob)! And he never knew that he had a twin sister who got hit by a car when she was little and now has the mental capacity of a 7-year old (sniff). Oh, and she got raped at some point and now has a son who can't go to school because he has to take care of her (sniff).

Husband: I don't care. Don't tell me anymore.

Me: But WAIT! Moo Hyuk comes back to Korea to find his poor pitiful mother who was forced to give him up, but he finds out that she is a famous actress. And she just ABANDONED him and his twin sister, and not only that, she went on to have ANOTHER son, Yoon, and now they have this kind of incestuous relationship where they both agree that Yoon is the greatest thing since sliced bread. The point is that Yoon is the PRINCE and has everything that Moo Hyuk never had. So Moo Hyuk plots revenge by stealing Yoon's skank-ho!

Husband: I don't care. Don't tell me anymore.

Me: But WAIT! Eun-chae is the chauffeur's daughter who has been living in Yoon's basement with her whole family for all of her life. She agrees with the mother that Yoon is the second coming of Christ and doesn't realize that Moo Hyuk is falling in LOVE with her. But then she hugs him, which makes him cry real tears out of his EXTREMELY BEAUTIFUL eyes, then he kisses her, and it is ON like Donkey Kong between them.

Husband: I don't care. Don't tell me anymore.

Me: But WAIT! Remember the bullet and the DYING part???

Husband: Yes. And I'm wishing I had a bullet right now.

Me: But WAIT! I'm only up to Episode 7!

*****

The preceeding dialogue was (more or less) a real conversation. None of the names have been changed. :-D

*****

If it sounds like I am making fun of MiSa, well, I am, a little bit...but only to keep from wailing in despair because it broke my heart. I don't know if I could ever watch it again, because it's right up there with A Love To Kill in the "please-tell-me-why-I'm-doing-this-to-myself" category. But was I happy wallowing in So Ji-sub's misery for three straight days? You bet I was.

what i hated about MISA is he never got to really embrace or even give his mom anything. She never knew up front, it breaks my heart.

And also, my favorite scene there was when the mother was telling everyone how she hopes her son will bitchslap whoever was mean to her in that blood sausage shop.

She was expecting her lame son to do it, but then the brute Moo Hyuk came in and wreaked havoc. that was so awesome, shocking, heartbreaking, just jaw dropping moment. So Ji Sub was so good in it too.

Another favorite of mine was when he "scrubbed" his twin sister. :-(

I hated the ending not because he *gasps* dies, but because everyone was in high spirts and partying in some cheesy concert as if Moo Hyuk was just a bleep in their radar. BOO, y'all should have worshipped him at that point.

I also hated Eun Chae, she simply did not do enough for him! hmpffff. I love the tragedy though, it was such self punishment to watch it, but i loved it.

@langdon813 - LOL!!!!!! man that was the funniest thing i read in awhile. thanks for the laugh - a much needed break from my crazy workday.

@tg - i want to watch Three Rivers cuz i <3 daniel henney in all his hotness... but.. i'm scared for his acting. i really am. and his hair scares me too. why must he have THAT hair? why can't he have hot Agent Zero hair like he did in Wolverine???

re: rotating banners - i get KSE and Kim Bum banners a bunch too!!! but i don't mind cuz i love me some adorably dimply Kim Bum. i also seem to get a lot of BOF in general.. i have not refreshed enough to get back to City Hall though... i think my mouse clicker thingy will break if i try to go for the proposal scene. either way i love all the banners - they are all so well done. if only i had the talent to make them.. i can't even figure out how to screencap for goodness sake. sigh.

LMAO!!!!
Chuno headers - YES, PLEASE!!!!
That would satisfy all of us ladies, and Samsooki's wish for more LDH, too. Two birds, one stone. :)

@ mishane

No attractive men in Flash Forward? John Cho the best looking? With all the English & Irish actors (Jack Davenport being the only one retaining his accent) gracing the screen? o_O
I am curious how the plot will unfold, though, with the 6-month scenario...and will Noh really die on March 15th?

You crack me up!

At first I didn't know what MiSa stood for, but when I saw the orphan-bullet I knew exactly what you were talking about. I never tried to explain that one to anyone b/c it defies explanation. I didn't know the bit about the car accident to the sister, though, so thanks for filling me in (I missed the first few episodes and worked out most of the back story, but not all, as I went along).

The ending encapsulates everything about why I tend not to watch the weepies--SPOILER (If you haven't already figured out this subthread is spoiler A-Z)--not only does the guy with the bullet in his head cark it, I knew that was coming, but he preceded carking it by approaching Eun Chae in every possibly way designed to offend and alienate, and she likewise, and then she goes and lies down on his grave and dies overnight. Overnight. In Australia, so we know she didn't die of hypothermia. Did I miss some bit where she had leukaemia and didn't tell anyone? I saw that and said out loud to the TV "you ARE joking; you are JOKING!!!".

But on the other hand, as is clear, I did watch it.

I'll chime in the Polanski case a little, the man is a joke, not only did he commit a crime but he ran and committed another crime. I know people are shocked that he feels he should be let off but I understand that atleast. He's just angry that he got caught when all the other lecherous Directors and Producers get away with it.

Well boo hoo Polanski, we know what Hollywood is really like but guess what "everyone else does it" isn't a valid argument. As for Whoopi Goldberg, if it was a black girl I wonder what her opinion would be?

Oh and Mishane, your life as a romcom thingy, Im working on my own right now, I'll be posting it soon:D

@97 Sig I think that WIAN has all of the issues that ockoala spoke of. But instead of hating it, I liked it. KSA and LDG made the show to me and though at times the ridiculous elements, were just that, I was still able to enjoy it for what it was, a show. I also watched it before CH was released so maybe that had something to do with it. I don't think that its a must see but I think that you get the point that its ok if you see it.

As for the overall viewership, I think that the mass public thought it was going to be better. Disappointment is a bitter pill and if it had been a show I was anticipating, I wouldn't have stuck with it weekly either. If you take into consideration how you feel about it, "it was ok, I liked it," weigh that against watching back to back eps or in realtime (weekly). At the time, Strongest Chil Woo and Gourmet were airing so I think that gives a little indication of the competition(ie much better stuff). I say that mostly in regards to Gourmet but SCW was a completely different drama and when placed against WIAN, though I would still pick WIAN, I can definitely see why others didn't. In may regards, SCW was laughable, but that was acceptable because of its audience, genre and style, in WIAN's case, it was not. With that said, there were alot of fans on soompi and other places that were devastated by its numbers.

I think that with every show there is that "who knows" factor. Something that you attach yourself to isn't always going to be loved by the masses. But I do think that you need to think of it in terms that dramas comes out every few weeks so most likely, I may not like this drama but something else is coming on tomorrow or this ends in 2 weeks, etc. The viewers know that machine and just wait it out.

With stars like KSA, I hate that that happened but its the luck of the draw. In its run, sure the show got outta hand but it wasn't unbearable. Not many are actually. It was all the issues with WIAN that made me NOT want to see City Hall. Though in the end, I liked it, I was weary due to the show she'd just come off of. I was glad I didn't stick to this.
Watching kdrama makes one painfully aware that some dramas are awe-inspiring and introspect and hit the spot. The "drama" spot that only a good drama can, making you want to sing on rooftops, spin in circles, and confess your love to the next stranger...or fight the good fight, defeating every foe and still be happy whether or not you find love...
Some dramas are bad straight out of the gate, the mind-warping ridiculous, steam coming from the ears, brain mush, I checked myself in the crazy house, WTH just happened...
Then lastly some are just "ok." The "ok" is the problem because too often they get lumped with the bad because everyone is in search of the awe. I'm not saying its a bad thing but sadly according to Brandy "almost doesn't count" and this applies to "almost" everything (hehe) ;)

hi everybody,

im a little late tonite its 11pm here in london....got caught up watching my first jdrama...since i have seen the korean BBF, i thought i'd check out the jdrama hana yori dango..i totally enjoyed it...

@reluctantbutaddicted

i read in the subtitles that hana yori dango means "dumpling over flowers"...is that true??? i thought it meant "boys over flowers"?

one of the first kdramas i have seen was BBF and now as i watched HYD i cant help but compare the two...i think i like the way HYD handled the storylines and the soundtrack...i prefer gu jun pyo over tsukasa...i really like hanazawa rui...but the biggest surprise for me was makino tsukushi...i find her so different from guem jandi...so much better. i finished seasons 1 and 2...is there more? also is the animated version alright? how many episodes are there?

so glad it's the weekend! been a sort of a hectic and pms-y week.

regarding the banners: i get a lot of Gu-hye sun, Go Ara, and Eric. Now that I find out there is a City Hall banner floating around...i hope i'll get lucky and get it!!

Regarding the Polanski issue: I think those people protecting him are almost as bad as the crime itself. Would they be supporting him he had raped their daughters? I am forever disgusted with Whoopi's comment on how it wasn't rape-rape. i want to make a blacklist of all those who support Polanski so i can boycott their movies, but it seems like most of hollywood supports him. he must be an incredibly powerful person. Wouldn't be surprised if he had orchestrated his wife's murder. I hope someone kills him off soon so we can get people's true reactions instead of this disgusting pandering. and so what if it's decades ago and he's old? people are still prosecuting priests who have committed rapes/sexual assault decades ago.

@33 mishane . Awesome game!

It’s Your Life As A Romantic Comedy: Recasting Your Life
Yourself, the main character: Yoo Ha Na
The True Love---Jae Hee
The Mistake/Ex----Song Seung heon
The Rival---Han Ji hye
The True Love’s Best Friend---Lee Junki
Your best friend----Jang Nara
Mom: Kim Ja Ok
Dad: Ahn Suk hwan
Brother/Sister: Kang Ji Hwan
The Gay Best Friend: Lee Min ki

Like some kdrama writers out there, I'm too lazy to prepare a solid. plot beforehand. Let's just say, Jae Hee and I were new neighbors, and we ran around each other in circles and have many awesome sparring sessions with each other (sparked by something inconsequential like him forgetting to put the lid back on the trashcan). I used to date SSH but it didn't work out cuz he was always too busy sculpting his abs. i told him I was fine with a 4-pack, but he said he wanted 10 and told me i was a wet-napkin for not believing him in him. Jae hee used to date Han Ji Hye. She got tired of him after awhile and decide that it was a wonderful challenge to go after Lee Min Ki (she doesn't know he's gay). After Jae hee started paying attention to me, HJH became miffed that he wasn't pining over her and decided she wanted him back. And then a tug-a-war ensued! Meanwhile, in the background are our other friends and family who just pop in and out. At the end, I won Jae hee. My brother, Kang Ji Hwan ended up dating my best friend, Jang Nara. HJH ended up with SSH because he knocked her up by accident (he was too preoccupied with his abs and she was too preoccupied with her desirability to remember the all-important condom). Lee Jun ki becomes an idol and Lee Min Ki ends up as a model and dating a younger man in his agency.

Horrible unimaginative story, i know. but it doesn't matter cuz we're all hot and great actors!

Regarding the Polanski situation , I do feel that it is completely reprehensible. Whoopi Goldberg's comment was ridiculous, however it would be ridiculous no matter what the race of the girl was. I apologize if I have misunderstood what point you were trying to get across exactly, but I grow tired of people assuming that black people are apathetic to a situation unless it concerns us specifically.

Only Woody Allan would support the release of Roman Polanski because both are a pack and real scumbags!!

When Polanski failed in the evidence of the case through his own confession, I bet he is now going to challenge the due process and procedural justice of the system!! If he failed on the due process, he would somehow get "someone" to dig and get into the "private affairs" of the judges or juries.

This is going to be a dirty game, let's watch for more developments. If OJ Simpson can be set free, why not him. However, there is always divine justice that will catch up with him.

HA HA HA HA, right on, sister! Best description of my beloved SSH - face chiseled by gods in their image, with abs to match.

As for Lee Min-ki being the gay best friend.....langdon813 might take offense to that characterization, but I think your plot (and mishane's) sounds already more interesting than half the drivel in drama land (that's worldwide drama land).

@121 anonymous too - first off, so glad you're enjoying the japanese hyd.. it's really one of my favorites!! inoue mao as makino was spot on, as was oguri shun as rui.. matsujun as domyouji was quite good, but was played goofier than junpyo and def not as good looking. i believe the title hana yori dango is a pun on the words. it literally means dumplings over flowers, meaning people who prefer things like food over the aesthetic beauty of flowers. but by changing the way it's written, the title changes to boys over flowers (the way you read dango turns into danshi)...or something to that effect. i probably got some of the details wrong but ya, it's basically a play on the words haha.

MORE MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR MISA SPOILERS AHEAD.

No, see, remember the DAD, Eun-chae's pathetic chauffeur dad, who kidnapped the babies and left them outside in the freezing cold with only their little ring necklaces to keep them warm? When he confessed everything to Moo Hyuk, he said he was willing to accept punishment for his sin...well, his punishment was that his daughter flew herself to Australia, walked around the hood crying and reminiscing about all the good times she had there with Gangsta Moo Hyuk, and then KILLED HERSELF at his grave. Eun-chae drank the Koolade, yo!

Now why Moo Hyuk was buried in Australia is anyone's guess. Did the Australian skank-ho come back to claim Moo Hyuk after he SAVED Yoon's pathetic, gigantic-earring wearing, Mama-loving, LAME-ASS dancing self, who then went on to even more boy band stardom with HIS original skank-ho??

NOT FAIR!

OMG!!! You and I must've been TWINS in a former life! OR...our husbands were! LOL.!
I cannot count the number of similar conversations I've had with my husband over kdrama matters...but they're not limited to dramas. They also include dreams about kdramas and actors, as well as MV's and entertainment shows.

It sounds like the Mr. langdon is direct and straightforward about his antipathy, though.
Mr. hjkomo actually pretends to listen, prompting me to continue my recap....until I figure out that he's not really listening to a word I'm saying. I don't know which is more frustrating.

Example - I was watching Hwang Jung Min's appearance on Family Outing during the middle of the night once. Hubby was fast asleep with two closed doors, another bedroom, and a hallway between us (I was in the living room).
The next morning, Mr. Grumpy complains that I woke him up with my laughter.

Me: Sorry, but I couldn't help it. It was SO FRIGGIN' FUNNY!!!!

And so, I go on about HJM's practical jokes (e.g. the way he ate garlic with such a straight face), his career, the different roles he's taken on....his famous "table" speech and how funny it was that he was just sitting there with a spoon waiting for the rest of the FO members to finish cooking, etc...

IF ONLY, I could get an "I don’t care. Don’t tell me anymore." response!
Instead, I get - "Uh-huh." at conversationally appropriate intervals which makes me think he's actually listening. Only when the silences in between the Uh-huh's get longer and longer, do I then realize he's tuned me out, and I say - "You really couldn't give a rat's ass about any of this, could you?" His answer with a laugh: "Nope."
Aigoo...

I wouldn't dream of criticizing the cast you've picked, it's YOUR drama and you can cast it with whomever you like. But in MY drama, Lee Min-ki plays most (if not all) of the male parts (a one-man show, if you will), and NONE of them are gay. :-D

Now, my movie, on the other hand, will star Jung Woo-sung. It will be so successful that it inspires two sequels, starring Lee Jung-jae and Hyun Bin, respectively.

Kim Sun-ah will be my BFF in both the drama and the movies, because she is just that good.

We won't need a plot, just a fantastic cinematographer and the soundtrack to Tamra!

I too have awakened my husband because of Family Outing. The Cha Seung-won episodes, as a matter of fact!! :-)

So, in exchange for a husband who has less than zero interest in Asian cinema, much less Korean dramas, I get a sister who does want to talk about it, which is a suitable substitute.

Sister started watching Beautiful Days, and her description is Lee Byun-hun is "he's intense." I like that, I know he's gonna bring it for IRIS, and I'm just so excited the drama is chock-a-lock full of other awesome actors! How am I going to wait week-to-week?

I'm starting my Jung Woo-sung collection by buying the official release of TGTBTW, adding The Restless (maybe I can lure hubby with Kim Tae-hee, he's easy to lure with pretty faces), and will be adding AMTR and Daisy soon once I can find a good place to buy it.

I'm a bit drained by my LBH-love fest, because, frankly, the man is all intensity, and I can barely look away. But happily, I've found a point-counterpoint in Jung Woo-sung's works, which have a completely different vibe, it actually relaxes and comforts me, his acting is so effortless, like slipping on a simple white shirt.

How crazy is it that before I landed on your blog, I had my music set to the song you chose for today's open thread?

RE: Banners

After reading the OT banner thread, I've suddenly noticed a lot of new banners. One is a Bum/So-Eun that I've never seen but it is adorable! (I have it in another tab as suggested XD)

Has anyone every visited asofterworld? It is a recent discovery that I've fallen in love with.

LOL @ langdon and your MISA discussion with the hubby

I had a similar MISA discussion with my best friend. Well, less of a discussion and more of a drunken rant.

Scene: Hell's Kitchen, NYC. Stumbling out of dive bar at 2 AM.

Me. Clutching on to my friends arm. Very Very Drunk.

Me: OMG Lauren, and he like, he has a bullet in his brain and he's gonna diiiiieee why is he going to die I don't get it? Why doesn't she just love him? She knows he's going to dieee I don't understand and her father is so mean why is he so mean I hate him!!!! And he's so jealous but he loves her HE LOVES HER HE LOVES HER why can't they just accept their lovee and I don't want him to die and he's going to die I know he's going to die and their love will be forever like Romeo and Juliet!!

Lauren: GET OFF ME YOU CRAZY PERSON!!!

Cue next morning.

Me: *groggy and hungover* What the hell happened last night?

Lauren: I don't know, some Asian guy died and you asked a whole bunch of homeless people why he had to die for love? By the way, I'm never going out with you again.

@138 mishane

HA!!!! That was hilarious! I don't know what you look like and I can STILL picture that.

This brings me to another question about these extremely weepy melodramas I love so much. My one big complaint...WHY, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DO NONE OF THESE PEOPLE EVER GET TO HAVE SEX?

Seriously! WTH? For example:

Snow Queen...mad love, no sex, death
A Love to Kill...mad love, no sex, death
MiSa...mad love, no sex, death
Tree of Heaven...mad love, no sex, death
90 Days, Time to Love...yep. You got it. All of the above.

And not just K-dramas, either! T-dramas can be just as guilty; Love Contract,
Silence...and these are just the ones I've actually seen, I bet there are tons more! What gives?

Let me tell you, poor So Ji-Sib wouldn't have stood a chance. I wouldn't have taken no for an answer...even if that was what ended up killing him. :-D

um langdon, I thought you knew?

Us Asians don't have sex. We don't even know what that is. Isn't that just rubbing your lips lightly together and hugging each other tightly? I mean, I assume that's how I was conceived.

To be more serious. . .maybe they operate on the Madonna/Whore principle? Once a character has sex on a drama, immediately she's a whore? I know I've seen comments like that on viikii (which is wildly disappointing).

Or maybe it's like a horror movie. . .once they have sex they die. Well, they die anyways. . .so never mind, theory not proven.

@ Mishane

I'm still laughing... that's hilarious. My eyes teared up.

Re J-HYD v K-BOF, Domyouji v Gu Jun Pyo, Makino v Geum Jan Di: I have strong opinions on this, but I have to go back to the tv and watch another episode of the HYD anime first (surprisingly satisfying, but I can already feel there's another HYD re-watch in my near future).

(24mins later)

OOPS, i scuttled back to TV so quickly I forgot to press send.

Hello!

This is my first post on OT.

First, I love JB and this website. It is the one I go to multiple times a day.

I decided to delurke because my family is getting tired of listening to me go on and on about things they have no idea about and don't care to know. I was going to delurke on the special #100, but I thought 103 would be a lucky number =)

For me it all started with manga, then anime, then KPop. I fell instantly for Big Bang and especially T.O.P. so of course my first KDrama would be I Am Sam. I Am Sam made me love Lee Min Ho, so my second KDrama was BOF. And I got addicted. BOF recaps led me to DB and it has now been almost one year. JB led me to the perfection that is Coffee Prince and my first celebrity girl-crush YEH<3

I have been counting down to Iris since it was announced! It will be great to see T.O.P. in a drama again.
______________________________________________________________

I know it probably doesn't exist, but is there a JDorama version of something similar to DB? I really want to start watching T/J/HK dramas. I've only seen a handful of KDramas and I have of list of must watch. I've only seen Mei-Chan's Butler, Zettai Kareshi, and 1 Litre of Tears. Is there a website someone could direct me to so that I can try more J/T/HK dramas.

RE: American TV

The only thing I've been watching on TV lately is Supernatural and GLEE.
I watched Smallville from its debut until a couple of years ago when Lana started irritating me. But my grandmother and friend are in love with the show. To be honest, I could have gotten over Lana, but without the Luthors the show just doesn't seems worth it.

I'm so excited about Three Rivers. My brother got really annoyed at me when I kept cheering every time the commercial for it came on while we watched The Mentalist. Best of luck to Daniel Henney, I'm trying to lower my expectation so I won't get disappointed.

Wow longer intro than I intended............

Why isn't it posting?
I hope it works this time.

@ 120 Nea
and
@107 Ockoala
I think mostly what I liked was the mystery...yes it was predictable but ultimately enjoyable. I wasn't expecting that much in the romance department anyway, so I wasn't disappointed.
I was surprised that I didn't mind the angst. Typically I prefer dramas that are more comedic than weepy (I had a lot of trouble getting through Who Are You?) KSA did a lot of crying in this one and I wasn't really put off, those are good points in my book.
I do agree that the later half did not have the intensity of the first half but overall it felt well paced and even, if maybe a little boring and typical. I even liked the way it ended (no 2 yrs later, no "happily ever after").

Hi everyone! TGIF! Yeah, it's the weekend but midterms are closing in for me... but on the other hand, next week is Thanksgiving holiday (in Canada!)...but I might spend that extra day studying. I have physiology too, and it ain't pretty. Ah, the precarious balancing act of being a student.

On the bright side, I just started watching My Girl. I know, I'm like years behind, but I really wanted some light fluff to keep me afloat during my midterms. Lee Dong Wook is gorgeous. I guess dating/marrying a hotelier is a big thing in Kdramas, since I've seen it used in two other works. The two being MNIKSS and BOF.

@mishane
Thanks for the link to lamebook! It's very entertaining.

Hey, for those of you watching Sons of Sol Pharmacy, does anyone else think it was a mistake to extend this series (I've actually yet to see a series where I liked the extension). I'm like, everything could have been wrapped up nicely by now; you're just dragging your feet at this point. I cannot conceive of there possibly being enough plot left for 4 more episodes.

Oh and, allow me to go on a little rant related to this show... more like a public service announcement. If you're not caught up with the series then cover your ears. This has to do with unattractive fellow doctor who is Bokshil/Jenifer's soon-to-be spurned lover (I don't know his name as I make it a point not get too attached to the character whom I lovingly refer to as the Decoy Guy... I was fooled when I fell in love for the Decoy guy in my very first drama and I refuse to be fooled again!). Anyway, here goes:

I'm not sure how many single guys we have reading this thread but here are some simple signs that She's Just Not That Into You:
1) You suggest taking a vacation together and she literally looks away and non-committedly mumbles that she'll think about it.
2) You ask her to officially date you and give her an expensive necklace to symbolize your blossoming relationship. She doesn't answer you and the necklace is never seen again,
3) Just days after you ask to date her, he announces plans to move halfway across the world.
4) You tell her that you're also going to move halfway across the world to be with her and the look on her face suggests that you have just killed her puppy in front of a small child.

Seriously, I HATE HATE HATE the "You obviously don't like me but I'm going to hold on to you against your wishes" story line. We've seen it many times in dramas. Such classic, nonsensical moves as telling your friends and family that you're engaged, beating up the person you actually do like, and (as in the case of SOS) inviting yourself along to be part of the new life you're trying to start for yourself! Come on, everyone (INCLUDING YOU) knows that you are the Decoy Guy, so just suck it up and back off coolly!

I am done.

@ 138 mishane & 139 langdon813

you guys are hilarious!! mishane, when I visit NYC- i'll be on the lookout for drunken-you! langdon813, that's so sad that all those characters die before having sex with the love of their lives! maybe if they had sex and knew how awesome it was, their will to live would have been stronger. someone needs to start sending memos to all future tragic characters: "just do it! it'll only take half an hour...maybe less..."

@ Z : I turn the volume down when that guy speaks, he drives me so crazy. Decoy Guy is a perfect name for those guys. That particular SOS is particularly irritating b/c he is also just such a drag. Persistent drag. But on the other hand, what's wrong with her that she can't say, Sorry, bud, but there's no way. I am losing sympathy for her b/c she won't deal with Decoy Guy straight up and tell him to move on. Signals and hints yes, but she needs to speak up already.

Extension: I was hoping for more Mi Pung in the extension, and maybe bit more Jin Pung. I could do with a little less Dae Pung, though he's a trifle more sympathetic now. The other brother's mother-in-law gives me hives (mother of the actress) every time she's on screen, so I'm annoyed that side plot got drawn out.

But I still do love the show, despite being irritated by about half the characters. I've grown quite fond of Brutus, and something is clearly being set up with Miran the cousin so that's a bonus side-plot.

Did it need the extension? Probably not. But I don't mind too much.

@ 148 asianromance :

"... maybe less...". So funny.

Yes, I can't help thinking they might be a little more willing to make the necessary effort to pull their lives together, fight for the loved one, etc, if they'd just get shagging.
