Oh My Lady: Episode 16 (Final)

Ah, the end is here! I suspect this episode made most if not all fans very happy, as it tied up the plot in a light-hearted but satisfactory way that was in keeping with the tone of the drama. It’s too bad that things didn’t get really compelling until about Episode 10 (then stepped it up with Episode 12 on — incidentally when Yura took a big step backward — coincidence? I think not) — which is frankly rather late for me to be connecting with a drama.

It’s to the actors’ credit that their amusing and sweet interactions were able to carry the plot until the story finally managed to tap into that emotional place with Min-woo’s growth as a father and as a person. I’m just glad that this one ended on a high note, because so many finale episodes feel like a letdown — they’re either too rushed or dragged out as an extended epilogue.

FINAL EPISODE RECAP

Min-woo asks Kae-hwa to be Ye-eun’s mother, explaining that he had purposely waited to ask her until after the musical premiered. Nobody could be as good a mother to Ye-eun as she is, “And I need you. Let’s marry.”

(Omo! Usually when episodes end on cliffhangers, the next episode drops the tension back down, but in this case they just upped the ante.)

Kae-hwa is stunned, but Min-woo adds, “I’m not saying this out of the blue. I’ve thought this over seriously for a long while. Think it over, then give me your answer. I can wait as long as you need.”

Min-woo is invited along for a celebratory drink with The Show Co. staff, and Jae-hee remarks that it feels like Min-woo’s a part of their office family now, seeing as he has come to all their gatherings. Min-woo smiles and, while looking at Kae-hwa, says pointedly, “I think so too. It feels like a family.”

He’s extra solicitous to her, offering little things like napkins and such, which Shi-joon finds amusing while Kae-hwa is exasperated. When the others urge her to drink more, Min-woo swoops in to play the “black knight,” i.e, drink for her.

Min-woo’s behavior is so noteworthy that Jae-hee asks teasingly if their fake scandal is actually real. Kae-hwa blurts, “No!” just as Min-woo answers, “Yes.” (Such a mixed reaction makes the others think there’s more to this relationship than they’re letting on, and they exchange knowing looks.) Kae-hwa rises to leave early because of the kids, and Min-woo hurriedly excuses himself too, accompanying her out.

Kae-hwa is impatient with his exaggerated attentiveness, and says that she’ll give her answer now: “I’m not going to marry again.” He asks her to think about it some more, but she replies that a lot of thought has already gone into making this decision (not to remarry).

A bit indignant, he says it’s cowardly to swear off marriage because her first one failed. Maybe she just met the wrong guy the first time — it’s always possible she’ll meet a good person the second time around.

Kae-hwa replies that she doesn’t want to entertain such an expectation, and besides, she has Min-ji. He counters that a daughter isn’t a husband — and once Min-ji grows up and gets married, will she be fine being alone? That makes her pause briefly, but she reasserts her stance.

Min-woo: “Are you that afraid?”
Kae-hwa: “Yes, I am! Do you know what marriage is?”
Min-woo: “‘What do you know when you have no life experience?’ Is that what you’re telling me?”
Kae-hwa: “You haven’t been hurt so you don’t know. You don’t know what that pain is of promising to love each other for the rest of your life and having that shattered. So please don’t talk to me about marriage again. I’m sorry to say it like this.”

She walks off, leaving him pondering her words.

Kae-hwa’s words make him look deeper into the cause of her resistance. Thus the next morning, he intercepts Byung-hak just as the latter is leaving his house (humming “Sorry Sorry” in a meta moment, lol).

Min-woo gets to the point, asking aggressively what the heck Byung-hak did to Kae-hwa to make her swear off marriage forever. Byung-hak returns that this is hardly his concern, but Min-woo says it matters “because it’s a hindrance to her marrying me.”

Byunk-hak’s reaction is pure confusion: “Why?” Why would he want a woman like Kae-hwa when he’s a star? Min-woo presses on with his question, which elicits a roundabout answer about how she’s a difficult and tiring woman to live with. Min-woo watches with narrowed eyes, reading between the lines — he cheated, huh?

Defensively, Byung-hak turns it around on Kae-hwa, saying she doesn’t know how to make herself pretty; it felt like he was living with a housekeeper. In fact, he never bought even her flowers — not because he forgot or anything, but simply because he never felt inspired to buy them for her. You know, since looks are the only reason for loving a woman and all. (I’m not even offended by this comment, because Byung-hak is such a silly idiot that the sentiment has no sting coming from him.)

Min-woo asks if he ever apologized for hurting her. Byung-hak laughs, saying it’s embarrassing to do that. Min-woo tells him firmly, “Apologize to her. Ask her officially for her forgiveness.” Byung-hak finds this an odd demand coming from Min-woo, who replies, “I’m asking as the man who loves her.”

Now that Min-woo has made up his mind to woo Kae-hwa, he gets busy trying to win her over. For instance, he waits outside her apartment to give the girls a ride to school, and reacts in concern to hear Kae-hwa hasn’t eaten breakfast. After dropping off the girls, he takes her to a fancy buffet, where he even serves her.

Kae-hwa worries over the pricy food, trying to convince him to watch his spending because he must have lost a lot of money in the cancelled endorsement deals. Min-woo answers matter-of-factly that they probably add up to about 3 billion won ($2.5 million), but is unfazed. He’s got money in the bank and is confident he can get more work; he’ll consider this a luxurious hiatus from work.

Unimpressed, Kae-hwa urges him to adopt a frugal attitude and says she’s better off than he is, since at least she has a regular salary.

At work, a huge arrangement of red roses is delivered, addressed to Kae-hwa from Min-woo. While the other employees all smile at her knowingly, Kae-hwa tries to explain it away in innocent terms: “Can’t this be a thank-you?” They don’t buy it for a second.

Min-woo sends her a text, which is totally over-the-top and ridiculous (“More beautiful than a flower… Kae-hwa”). Embarrassed and uncomfortable, Kae-hwa says she’ll clear the flowers out of the office and takes them to the stairwell, thinking Min-woo is being shameless. But they do bring a smile to her face, as it’s been ages since she’s received flowers from anyone (which is why Min-woo made the gesture in the first place, in reaction to Byung-hak’s remark).

Next, Min-woo takes a cake to Bok-nim in thanks for treating Ye-eun, then asks for a favor, as she is a friend to Kae-hwa. His statement that “I’m intending to marry Yoon Kae-hwa” so shocks her that Bok-nim drops her coffee and stares at him incredulously.

Bok-nim rushes to ask Kae-hwa about it, wanting to know when the wedding is. She dismisses Kae-hwa’s grumbling that he’s just a kid — 28 is plenty grown-up, and the seven-year age difference is nothing. How can she let a guy like him slip through her fingers?

Kae-hwa grumbles that Min-woo’s proposal asked her to be Ye-eun’s mother, not his wife. Bok-nim sees through Kae-hwa’s complaining and smiles: “You really do like Min-woo.” That’s why she’s disappointed over the wording of his proposal, right? Bok-nim waves aside her resistance, saying that if they like each other, what’s the big deal? In her eyes, Min-woo is serious about her.

Min-woo takes the family out to a nice restaurant. Kae-hwa is self-conscious about coming to a place like this where they’ll be watched, but Min-ji enjoys eating out for once, and Min-woo tells her that it doesn’t matter to him. He pats Ye-eun on the head, saying, “I’m going to raise her proudly, since she’s my daughter.” Which is probably the most effective thing he could have said to impress her, and she allows herself to look at him with moony eyes (but only when he’s not looking back at her).

When Kae-hwa takes Ye-eun to the bathroom, Min-woo tries to make conversation with Min-ji. He sees this as a chance to suss out her thoughts and asks if she’d like having a sister like Ye-eun. Min-ji is pretty sharp and asks point-blank, “Are you going to marry my mother?” Her bluntness takes him by surprise, but he confides that he wants to. Still, he has to first hear out Min-ji’s opinion and wait for her mother’s answer.

She asks, “If you end up marrying my mother and then a prettier lady comes along, are you going to divorce my mom?” Min-woo gapes incredulously, but Min-ji points out that he works with beautiful actresses all the time: “If you betray my mother, it’ll be so sad for her.”

He tells her solemnly, “That’ll never happen. I’ll promise that to you.” They pinky-swear on it.

The musical continues its run and after another of Min-woo’s performances, he calls Kae-hwa, who is working late — or at least, she lies that she is. He offers to pick her up from the office, but for whatever reasons (fear, insecurity, nerves), Kae-hwa rejects the offer.

Reporter Han overhears Min-woo muttering to himself after the call, and says knowingly that he must be stuck in an unrequited love. Min-woo is wary, but Reporter Han has some insights about the situation, and his comments pique Min-woo’s curiosity. Wanting to hear more thoughts on his situation, Min-woo goes along with the reporter’s suggestion to grab a drink.

Kae-hwa works late, keeping herself busy to avoid going home right away. Finding her still in the office, Shi-joon offers her a ride home, and they pause for a break to talk. Tentatively, Kae-hwa says she hopes that he and his wife can give things another try, as it seems they still care for each other. Although Shi-joon doesn’t respond, he’s not offended by her statement and in fact seems to consider her words.

He turns the topic to Min-woo, asking how things are between them. Kae-hwa can’t feign ignorance since Shi-joon knows too much, but first she asks how much he knows. He answers, “One person is sending flowers, but the other person doesn’t seem ready to receive them.”

She confirms that Min-woo seems to be serious about a relationship but she’s not sure; she doesn’t feel confident that she can be seen “as a woman” to anybody. Shi-joon tells her she can — enough that he felt something for her for a short while. This stuns her, as he had never given any hint of his interest, but Shi-joon assures her that there is no cause for alarm. He has dealt with his feelings, and things won’t get awkward between them.

Liquor loosens Min-woo’s reserve (and his tongue) enough that he starts to talk freely about his woes, wondering how Kae-hwa can reject his proposal. Grabbing his laptop, the reporter starts to take notes, asking questions about why she rejected him and how long he’s had feelings for her. And I love Min-woo’s answer:

Min-woo: “Since we went looking for Ye-eun. No — since she had to go to the sauna because of me. No — since she fought with Mr. Jung [Yoon-seok]. Or was it from the beginning?”

Reporter Han says he must like her quite a lot, and Min-woo answers, “Yes, an awful lot. She’s different from the women I dated in the past. She’s beautiful. That’s why I think, ‘This is my woman.'” With that, he falls asleep, his head coming to rest on the tabletop.

Huh — well, this is a new side to Min-woo, and the reporter finds him pretty pure-hearted after all. It’s nothing like the partying image he’d had earlier. He starts typing a story about Min-woo’s “heartfelt love story” and uses words like “rebirth as a real actor.”

Han’s article spawns a wave of press, which now portrays Min-woo in a much more down-to-earth, humanistic light. They even declare that he has now washed off the disgrace of his former image as a lousy actor.

Yoon-seok is dissatisfied — I guess this good press does him no good, since he has lost his hold on Min-woo — but everyone else’s opinion of Min-woo makes a drastic upswing. He presents himself modestly in interviews, and even producer Eom is impressed with him. In fact, Eom gives himself credit for having recognized Min-woo’s talents early on, but Byung-hak scoffs since he didn’t do anything about them. Eom counters that he’ll get Min-woo for his next production.

Eom isn’t the only one wanting to cast Min-woo, and Shi-joon conveys an offer to Min-woo from a Japanese producer colleague, who has sent a proposal for Min-woo to take a role in a Japanese drama. Min-woo is pleased with the news, but as soon as he sees that he’d have to live in Japan for a year, he declines. Shi-joon thinks it’s a great opportunity, but Min-woo answers that he has somebody to watch over here.

And that’s not all: Jae-hee hands Kae-hwa some documents to give to Min-woo, which are papers for a new advertising contract offer worth 1 billion won (nearly $1 million). Apparently advertisers love his new image as a dedicated young single father.

Kae-hwa takes the documents to Min-woo’s photo shoot, where he takes a break from posing for a makeup touchup. The makeup artist tells him that his “scandal partner” (Kae-hwa) is really below his level, and offers to introduce him to a younger model friend. She describes the girl as one of those innocent-looking beauties, to which Min-woo answers, “I like sexy women.”

Naturally this is hardly thrilling for Kae-hwa to hear, even though Min-woo is actually making that quip as a way to reject the date. (Rather than saying no outright, saying that he prefers sexy women is a way of declining her friend, who is the opposite.)

Feeling dispirited, Kae-hwa decides not to approach and starts to leave. She runs into Yura, who congratulates her on her relationship and assures her that she has decided to move on.

Kae-hwa hands the envelope to Yura and asks for her to give it to Min-woo, making up the excuse that she’s busy and has to leave. Yura does, and when Min-woo hears the reason, he hurries out and tries to call Kae-hwa. Alas she isn’t answering the phone, so he goes to the theater, where he is told she is still back at the office.

Shi-joon finds her on the roof ignoring Min-woo’s phone call, and offers her a beer. In her melancholy mood, Kae-hwa offers to tell Shi-joon a “really funny story” and confides that Min-woo proposed to her. Even funnier is the fact that her heart thrilled to hear it. It was exciting to be seen as a woman again — but today, that feeling was shattered.

I’d assumed she was hurt by the makeup stylist’s dismissive comments about her, but I’m actually relieved that those words weren’t the cause of her mood. In actuality, it was the sight of him in action, looking like a star, that made her feel like they were completely unsuited for each other: “He seemed like someone from another land.”

Shi-joon points out that Min-woo was a star from the start — it’s not like she didn’t know. Kae-hwa answers that at the beginning, he had nothing to do with her so that wasn’t an issue. But as they got to know each other, she saw him struggling and felt sorry for him, and nagged him when he said silly things — and those things felt comfortable and manageable. Now that he’s doing better… it’s like he’s back to being a lofty star and the chasm is growing between them.

Shi-joon tells her that Min-woo likes her very much — enough to give up a drama opportunity for her. “Min-woo has changed this much — shouldn’t you recognize his feelings?”

Min-woo arrives at the office to find it empty, then recalls the roof. He arrives outside just in time to see Kae-hwa wiping away some tears. So much about this situation upsets him, and he strides up to her, grabs her wrist (urg!), and takes her downstairs.

He feels hurt that she has been ignoring his calls and avoiding him, particularly when she knew he was waiting for her — and now she’s here crying in front of Shi-joon — and raises his voice to a yell. Kae-hwa tells him levelly that she has already given him her reply, but he ignored it. No matter how she thinks about it, they don’t suit.

He argues that if he cared about those things — age, status — he would never have liked her from the start. She returns that this is just proof that he’s young, and they should quit while they’re ahead. And he should go to Japan.

That gets his attention: “Is that why?” He explains that he didn’t tell her about the Japan offer because he never intended to go. She takes issue with his high-handedness in dragging her away, saying that she’s ashamed of him when he does that, and gets angry and starts fights out of misunderstandings.

Min-woo asks, “So are you saying you can’t marry me? Are you saying I won’t do because I’m immature and young?” Kae-hwa answers yes. She can’t marry someone who reacts in such unpredictable ways — it makes her feel uneasy. She storms off, leaving him to shout her name in frustration.

You know, I’m actually relieved that they had this fight. They’ve never fought for real, and this addresses issues that they’ve been skirting thus far. It’s also nice to see some real conflict — genuine emotional clashing and hurt feelings — rather than the glib, fluffy sort of conflict that has characterized most of this show.

That night, Byung-hak calls Kae-hwa, who finds him drunk and in a thoughtful mood. To her surprise, he tells her, “I’m sorry.” He acknowledges that he never apologized properly, so he’s doing it now. She did nothing wrong — he’s the bad guy — and they divorced because he wronged her. But he felt too embarrassed to apologize, so he couldn’t do it: “But after listening to Sung Min-woo, I felt I was really wrong, and that I had to apologize. So I came here.”

That surprises her — he met Min-woo? Byung-hak gives Min-woo some credit for the way he had insisted he apologize, admitting that the kid was pretty impressive with the way he said, “As the man who loves Yoon Kae-hwa, please apologize.”

He says it one more time: “Kae-hwa, I’m sorry. I was wrong. I pushed you aside and hurt your feelings — forgive me for everything. Forget that all, and make a new start. And if he upsets you, come and tell me right away, and I’ll give him a scolding.”

(Aww. An unexpectedly touching moment from Byung-hak. As with the last time he defended Kae-hwa, this gives us a glimpse into why they were married in the first place while also showing us why they didn’t work. It’s rare to see ex-spouses in a drama ending on amicable terms, and it’s a nice change.)

Min-woo comes home feeling frustrated, and looks over his drama proposal documents. This gives him an idea, and he starts typing away. And when we see what he’s drafting — gahhh, Min-woo is so cute. I about died reading the title of his document: “Proposal On Living For Yoon Kae-hwa.”

In the morning, he comes to her apartment and gives her the envelope. He looks at her with puppy dog eyes and tells her to give her response after reading it.

Kae-hwa reads Min-woo’s proposal, which is formatted like a business document. In keeping with the theme of the drama proposal packet, he has drawn up Kae-hwa’s resumé, only it’s more like a life resumé than a professional one, outlining her traits and skills such as “she has a loud voice,” “makes killer ddukbokki and kimbap,” and “she likes Kim Myung-min better than Sung Min-woo, but I want to forgive her anyway.” Also of note: she has become a mother to Ye-eun, “and now is the woman in my heart.”

Under the “future plans” column, he has scheduled marriage in a month, a vacation cruise to celebrate their one-year anniversary, and so forth. Byung-hak’s apology had started to melt her resolve, and now she has to smile a teeny bit at Min-woo’s document.

Jung-ah has been offered a job in Daejeon, which is located in central Korea and about a two-hour drive from Seoul. She asks Shi-joon for his approval, suggesting that they need some space between them. As she leaves, she tells him that she realizes she hasn’t been the best wife to him either (I presume she means before the adultery, since otherwise that statement would be met with a resounding DUH).

But the door isn’t closed on them forever — with Shi-joon now opening up more to Jung-ah and realizing his part in driving his wife away, it looks like they’re leaving room for a reconciliation later, after they’ve both healed. Shi-joon even says he’ll go down to visit her on the weekend.

Min-woo performs another show, after which he checks his phone and tries to contain his disappointment that Kae-hwa hasn’t called. To his (happy) surprise, Kae-hwa finds him sitting in the empty theater, here with a much more conciliatory attitude than the last time they saw each other.

As we know, important conversations must always relocate to prettier environs (can you imagine that car ride over to the waterside? Most awkward silence ever).

Kae-hwa apologizes for her harsh words, telling Min-woo that she didn’t mean it when she pushed him away. She asks for his understanding and also thanks him for thinking of her life and her future (i.e., in his proposal) in such a serious way.

Min-woo has been looking pensive and tense throughout her speech, like he’s bracing himself, sensing that she’s ready to deliver her final decision. So it takes a moment for her next words to really sink in, as she tells him:”So I’m thinking of being courageous now. Thanks to you, I think I can do that now.”

She adds that she’d always thought she would just focus on being a solid support for Min-ji’s benefit, “But if things get hard, it’s okay if lean on someone now.” Min-woo smiles and steps forward to hug her gently, thanking her for her answer. Kae-hwa thanks him back for letting her be courageous again.

Min-woo then thanks her for watching over him and Ye-eun all this while. He promises that from now on, he’ll protect her.

And then they get the swirly-camera kiss — which is a nice way to bookend the drama, considering that this is very similar to how we started. Only, now it actually means something.

The end!

COMMENTS

I picked up Oh My Lady because (1) when it started I had the time, as none of the current Wednesday-Thursday shows had premiered yet and I had no other recap commitments, (2) I had just finished its timeslot predecessor Wish Upon a Star, which was a happy surprise, and therefore anticipated a similar tone for this one, and (3) I wanted to keep up the watching and recapping momentum. There’s also (4) the matter of loving Chae Rim (and wanting her to pick a more enjoyable project than her last, Good Job, Good Job) and (5) the fact that I had pegged Choi Siwon as an idol-star-turned-actor to watch out for after Story of Hyang Dan back in ’07. (See? There IS some thought that goes into these decisions, however random the choices may ultimately seem!)

About halfway through the drama, however, I found my interest flagging, but not enough to drop the show. Even the less interesting episodes were easy to watch, and it wasn’t a challenging show in either theme or plot, so keeping up wasn’t too much of a hardship. I did, however, start thinking that if the actual plot development got any SLOWER, I would seriously consider dropping it.

Ultimately I’m glad I stuck with the show, and the last four episodes in particular gave me a sense of satisfaction about the drama as a whole. It turned into a different drama than the one it originally seemed — which pointed at the hijinks of a star falling for his ajumma maid/manager — and focused much more on Min-woo’s development as a father than as a romantic partner. I don’t think the romance came out of nowhere, but it wasn’t a priority, and that was actually refreshing.

I won’t call Choi Siwon a brilliant actor — he’s pretty decent, but he’s still got a long way to go if he’s going to keep pursuing an acting career, and I think he should — so rather than pure acting skills, it’s his personal charm that carries the character. I mean, just look at that smile, right?

It doesn’t hurt that he’s perfectly cast — image isn’t everything, but it’s a pretty significant part of how we approach a character. And when you cast a star to play a star, you’ve always got that benefit of the audience’s meta awareness of the actor’s real-life fame. (Also see: Choi Ji-woo in A Star’s Lover, Rain in Full House, Jang Geun-seok in You’re Beautiful, Kim Ah-joong in Accidental Couple.)

It was a leetle disappointing to have so little screentime for the two girls in the last episode, but we’ve seen enough of the Cute in previous episodes that I was content to let this finale be Min-woo and Kae-hwa’s exclusively. (Well, there were a few Shi-joon and Jung-ah moments, but I choose to skip right over them in my mind. Yawn. I’m satisfied, story-wise, with where they ended, but don’t need to dwell any longer on them.)

And then there’s Chae Rim. To be honest, I don’t think this is the best vehicle for her, even though the drama really benefits from having her in it. Therefore I’m glad for the drama’s sake, but she’s an actress whose talents weren’t fully used here — particularly since her character was less developed than Min-woo’s, and hardly changed at all. She made the most of it, tapping into a vulnerable side of Kae-hwa that gave the character a hint of depth. But I hope to see her tackling something more challenging in the future, and something out of the ajumma mold, as she’s done two in a row.

All in all, Oh My Lady was a sweet, cute series that could be a fun way to spend a breezy weekend with some unchallenging but personable characters, and that will leave you smiling at the end.

I meant "Wishes DO come true!", though I guess at the show's end she wasn't technically married yet.

....hello everybody in the OMLhood.... regarding the SMW-CSW distinction--separation, well it's quite hard for me to separate them... I love SMW--the character but it couldn't have been pulled off by anyone except CSW (I can't or don't want to allow-think anyone else taking on that character!!!!) ... Again, I don't think I would accept anyone else as SMW. We are all aware of SMW flaws, foibles, and best characteristics, 'definitely have no idea what the real CSW is like except in what is shown--or allowed to be shown. He seems to be a down to earth kind of person, God fearing and easily worshipped!!!!

On my other addiction--umm to JA's novels-movies-characters, Mr Darcy--Colin Firth pulled it off well in the mini series of PP. As for Persuasion, Capt Wentworth was just a character. It's quite hard for me to get attached to movies vs the kdramas because maybe of the time and effort spent to follow and gradually enjoy--love the characters. In the quick miniseries and 2 hour films, it's like a quick fix whereas in the Kdramas--live week to week watch, anticipation--feeling their happiness, pain, giddiness, craziness... it's just as if each character is a part of your family. Doesn't it feel like it? Like with OML, the investment--or commitment of time--usually 2 months in all for a 16 episode one, unless pre-empted by the Olympics or World Soccer Cup, or even a Laker vs Celtics championship game--quite annoying really (GO Lakers!!!, um sorry to the Celtics fans) It's probably why it's so difficult to let go of OML and the beloved characters of KH and MW with the rest specially the children. The simplicity of OML just "echanted" all of us. ... and I don't mind being hooked--addicted to it. Yep, I am with many of you on the edge of insanity, mindless at times--many times.

@epyc, when you watch your OML DVD--pls let me know how the Eng sub is, I'm willing to get one if the original isn't out even if the sub is crappy... you are so lucky that you can read Chinese....

as for the DRAMABEANS-OML tees, I'm thinking of just doing a home made one, SBS and or JB might come after me for copyrights issues.

Oh, yeah... isn't it sad that the different broadcasting companies are taking away the audience fun by closing the you tube accounts of different fansubbing groups for KPOP, Kdramas...etc. It's the best way to attract the audience, fans, new fans etc. I'm now even curious about Korean History, the costumes worn on the historical dramas are interesting. The Gaesangs---like why are their hairstyles worn differently, even the hats of the men... hair coverings, do they mean anything--stature, etc...they probably do... Ok, enough of that ranting...

Oh, you know Dramabeans's headers, many headers--pictures, no one has made one for OML, if I had the Knowhow I'd make one...... but I don't. I'll suggest this to the OML-Soompi followers who can easily make them. Maybe JB will allow one in OUR behalf, the OMLHOOD......

@Lumi--regarding the fan who wrote regarding each Hotelier episode with the different characters' perspective including future possibilities, wow, I believe each and everyone of us can easily do that. It would be a riot wouldn't it... ? We are actually doing it though briefly with each post...

...have a good day everyone...

Imagining Siwon as a data analyst in Iris...wearing a suit and glasses (men in glasses are hot...sorta geeky but nonetheless appealing)...or Siwon as a field agent..wearing leather jacket and dark glasses...or riding a motorcycle...(fanning myself! Hahaha!) My imagination's running wild with all the possibilities! Just don't want his character to get killed off or the ending of Athena to be as ?!?!? as Iris. Anyway, I'll stick with the show as long as Siwon's in it!

I'm so happy about the positive response about Siwon joining Athena.

"On top of that, let’s just say that compared to who was previously rumored to be taking this role, Choi Siwon is a huge step up."

I was intrigued enough to read the rants/raves section on the news of Kim Hyun-joong being offered a role in Athena...and man! do I feel so sorry for KHJ for the comments there on his acting skills (or lack thereof!). I'm not ashamed to say I enjoyed BOF, but KHJ in Athena??? I hope I don't offend anyone here who's a die-hard KHJ fan. No offense, but Siwon is certainly a better choice for the role. =)

...the OMLHOOD, I just went back to the rant/rave section of JB's Siwon--Athena revelation, those ravers--- they are worse than us...........umm, you know fangurling for CSW. OHHH, and they can be sooo cruel, regarding the previous candidate for the role... Poor KHJ, he's was not casted well in BOF........ I'm a KHJ fan--from the We Got Married fame.....

But, I am sooo thrilled for our CSW to get the role. It's his turn to shine....... Well, I'd like to see his gestures in that.... and @ Ace, CSW would just be perfect in the full leather get up on top of those humongous motorcycles But I wouldn't mind him in those geeky get ups. He can do--have any kind of look and he'd still be my Korean Greek God!!!!!

Great news !!!! It makes my day !!!

I just read JB’s write-up on Siwon's role in Athena and the rant/rave section of it. Ha ha ha ............. and I agree with Mel that there are ravers worse than us !!!

I'm so gald that Siwon picked up this role instead of the earlier rumoured Taiwanese drama (hope it's final) and he is definitely a much better choice for the role !

Now, we have something to look forward to ..........though I will miss Sung Min-woo badly !!!

I tried googling CSW and Athena earlier and got 75,100 results. His casting is really official now according to the other kpop/kdrama news sites & bloggers (not that I doubted JB > just needed added confirmation since we're all so excited already)

@doraemon - I'm sure by the time Athena will be shown, we'll all have our very own copies of the original OML DVD (I dearly hope it's available by then) and we'll be watching our fave 2010 kdrama alongside Athena!

In the meantime, I'm looking forward to Super Show 3 maybe in August or September. Siwon's going to be really busy for the next few months. From what I've read he has started to go to an action-acting school everyday 'coz he's taking this role seriously, add the promotion schedules for Bonamana & other SuJu-related activities, plus when they start shooting Athena the locations would be overseas (outside Korea)...whoosh! I'm exhausted just thinking about it. I hope he doesn't get sick or too stressed out.

If you're bored, try comparing the (favorable) comments on SW joining Athena vs the comments on http://www.dramabeans.com/2010/05/kim-hyun-joong-offered-role-in-athena/ > The raves/rants made me laugh...just read for yourself and enjoy! I could almost hear shouting when I read the comments...

I'm glad that when we are sharing our opinions/thoughts here, even if we don't completely agree with something, we keep it civilized and respect each other's opinions. Happy Friday everyone!

Oh dang, I'm so glad he's going to be in Athena. I thought nothing of the show before this news, and now, I am so there! Action drama? Right up his alley. Maybe we'll see some of those kicks that he did so well in Legend of Hyang Dan, for starters. I think this will be a good move for him in expanding his acting horizons. We all know he can do rom-com well, and I have no doubt in his abilities in this upcoming project.

It was great to read JB's positive reaction to this news. Even though, as dedicated fans, we know he would do a great job in this role, it's nice to see a reviewer's take on it. And it's not just that JB anyone would be an improvement over the previous rumored prospect.

I had to laugh at the rants/raves at that link. In fact, I did laugh out loud (though tried to stifle it) at one comment in particular (about losing bladder control upon learning this news) and my 9-year-old daughter inquired about my outburst. I explained to her what made me crack up, and she didn't quite get it. That's okay, hun, never mind. You got several years to go...

I have a question: So what's all the excitement about bromance? Does that just mean brotherly bonding? Heartwarming, but it stops there, right?

Hi, guys! Been out for a while and when I finally got back, WOW!...we're nearing 300 already!

Yey, it seems to me that most of us really belong together, considering our love for both OML and Jane Austen...i still remember Sobia telling me of the subliminal messages that OML was sending us, thus we keep on returning to both OML and JA ( and to this site).

@242 Sobia and 244Mel, I totally agree with you: if JA were here and were to rewrite our kdrama, we would have a totally different OML ending. KH would most probably have ended up with SJ and most of us would have been greatly disappointed...

@236kappy , voice of experience u said? Right you are!
@245 Ace, your MW is out there somewhere, still searching for you. As for me, I have been very happy these whole 9 years with my own MW.

I am glad to hear CSW joining Athena ( but to me, he will always be SUNG MIN WOO), what about Chae Rim's next project? Any news yet? I miss her a lot, I am re watching Dalja's Spring, and i am enjoying it even more now than I did 2 years ago. I have been following CR's acting for years and i must agree with a_fan@234, she is indeed very good and very effective at subtle acting!. .effortless and very natural....

I read from a Chinese website that Chae Rim's next drama project may be the re-make of the HK movie Comrades: Almost a Love Story, but it's not confirmed.

@Koreanpsyche, I share the same sentiments, CSW will always be Sung Min-woo to me :)

Thanks, my dear DORAEMON, for the info!

Don't hate me for this, CSW folks, but really, I must have lived in some distant planetary system because I have not heard of CSW or Super Junior prior to OML (must be my age, or the distance from Korea or just plain ignorance or something). But I have loved him since. Or, to be more precise, I have loved and adored the MW character he soooooooo charmingly portrayed that i could not picture him to be somebody else other than KH's Min Woo! Am I being shallow? Definitely! Am I being selfish for limiting his prospects as an actor? Regrettably so. BUT for now, let me cling to Min Woo just a little while longer....just until i could find a kdrama that would occupy the space that OML left in my heart (SIGH!!!!!!!!)

Hey there OMLhood gangies!

@mel - I questioned your use of a water gun at a Suju concert, thinking it to be a sign of you as a fun-loving, very excited concert-goer, but I just recently caught on Youtube one of their concerts (SS2?) and see what you're talking about! Forgive me for being in the dark about that. I must have been living on an adjacent planet next to koreanpsyche, because prior to OML I was devoid of knowledge of our beloved CSW or Suju. I have since mended my ways! If I go to one of their concerts, I will be armed and ready! Still looking for news on SS3...

@sobia - I agree with your comparisons of the JA heroines and KH - spunky like Elizabeth, meddlesome like Emma, sensible like Elinor and Anne, but also blooming like Anne. You know how you could see a subtle physical transformation of Anne? I found myself hoping to see that same kind of thing for KH, but I guess we did get it somewhat, more internally. And I am glad that OML had the ending that it had and did not go the way JA might have taken it.

Oh, and thanks for the reminder of the recent Emma with Romola Garai. I'd seen something about it but then forgot it was out there.

@koreanpsyche - I know what you mean about hanging on to MW. Though I have expressed my happiness in CSW being part of Athena, I want to hold on to MW a bit longer. At least he's playing a good guy (supposedly), huh? Though I wouldn't knock him being a bad guy, since it's just acting, right? If he didn't do such a good job playing MW, we might not feel this way. Then again, if he didn't do such a good job playing MW, we might not still be here commenting adoringly as we are.

@everyone - Still very much appreciating coming back here seeing your insightful, fun comments in helping ease my OML addiction!

Secret handshake update - Okay, so far we have the snap-out-of-it clap, the thumbs up gesture (was that the prayer hands, or was that something different?), and the pointing gesture (when leaving the restaurant after the company lunch). We could throw in the because-I'm-Min-Woo hand pump gesture (single or double hands). It's funny, but we haven't yet gotten around to actually touching the hands of the person we'll be shaking hands with because of all MW's gestures! Oooooo, just remembered...the promise-to-MinJi pinky handshake. There...

Hello everyone in the OMLhood - I can happily report that the DVD I bought is of high quality and good Eng/Ch subs. Been rewatching Ep 7-13 yesterday. The more I watch it, the more I find MW and KH are like a long-married couple who are so comfortable with each other from very early on. That is quite different from the early expectation of a Full House feel when the drama started. The maturity that KH brings to this relationship defnitely plays a part and MW, as you many of you have now dissected, is not much a spoilt brat but rather an insecure and lonely person who is decent at heart.

... hope everyone in the OMLhood are having a great weekend.... Like everyone here, I've written that I am so thrilled for our Choi Si Won to have gotten a new role in Athena beyond our beloved OML--it's ironic that like most of us here we are all beyond ourself with excitement that he's already got something else lined up after OML---but like @265 Koreanpsyche, @264 kappy, @262 doraemon----deep in our HEARTS and MINDS--MEMORIES, CSW will always be our beloved SMW--YKH's love........ even when many will get tired of this rant/rave area, I will be one of those who will continue the love and support for our OML....probably repeating myself (into my senile years...) about all my love for OML.... the same goes for our Chae Rim, I keep looking for what's she's got going. YUPPP, it's quite stalkerish isn't it.... not only am I addicted, can't get out of the withdrawal, trying the treatment that this site provides but now I am stalking...gotta get me something stronger to cure these symptoms!!!!

Now, there's the added addiction to Super Junior and the renewed dormant addiction to Jane Austen's works... I even pulled out all the books in my collection (I've got every single one when I got lucky at a library used book sale ... the Book of the Month Club edition)... I have no more room for my books and the Korean DVD collection........... one vice has got to go.... It's Dramabean's fault, no you've all contributed to my addiction.... but you know what, it's so much fun!!! I'm not the only one that's crazy about all these things!!!! I'm sooooo glad there are so many like me.

... early this past May before this OMLhood rant/rave section was intiated, I e-mailed JB regarding how impressed my family and I are at her work, how her recaps are sometimes so moving that tears suddenly appear at her amazingly entertaining narrative....... I asked if she ever thought of doing recaps (check her take) of classic Kdramas like "What Happened in Bali," (Jo In Sung was so awesome in that!!!!) JB just got back to me and stated that she had thought about doing that but there's not enough time in a day for all her work and that there are so many current dramas that take up her time. We need five JB's to satisfy the craving for Kdramas not just the average 16 episode ones but also the long kdramas with 50 and beyond episodes ........... I also asked JB to please give us a buzz here in this section and also asked what she thought about the Dramabeans--OML Tee Shirt and that we are already thinking of doing homemade ones... Hopefully she'll get back to us...

Again am so glad to see all the posts congratulating CSW including the one that @264 kappy describing one fan's post of possible loss of bladder control.... and then badmouthing KHJ on the rant/rave section (poor kid--there are rumors that SS501 may be splitting) ............ am squirming every time I go back there.

@268 kappy and Koreanpsyche, it's great to know that you have reformed and have come away from your adjacent planets and joined the real world filled with Super Junior. SS3 will be underway mid August in Seoul. Yes let's be properly armed, reloading will be no problem just make sure you've got plenty of supply next to you. Don't even need to shoot it at them just pour it on!!! I'm looking for a small venue, not those huge stadiums that all we'll get to see are little figures that are ant like.... it'd be great to see them up close with a water proof video camera and again...well armed..with rain coats and loaded water guns.

@265 ace wow googling CSW and Athena and coming up with 75,000 hits, yey CSW ......CSW has no choice, he's a bigger STAR now... (we all knew that already!!!!).... and you may yet find your own MW... I'll help pray for you, I've got one of my own and we've been together over 25 yrs, 20 married...like our Koreanpsyche... he's the bomb he allows me my crazy Kdrama addiction at any time of day or night...... he joins me too--in watching the Kdramas and is also a fan of Kpop--yes he know SU JU too, even KHJ, but not as crazily addicted...

....everybody, have a refreshing spring day...... GO OML...GO CSW/MW, CR/YKH!!!

@67koreanpsyche, @68kappy, I'm your neighbour (living at another adjacent planet) !! I started watching OML back in April then when I have some free time to spare (in fact, I was eargerly waiting for PT and PP) and have absolutely no idea who is CSW (other than he is a suju member). I'm not impressed with all these young idol-turned-actor and didn't have much expectation of him; and I'm exactly a fan of CR then, I just watched it 'cos it's a funny and light-hearted drama. However, by the end of episode 1, I'm hooked; by epiosde 6, I'm ADDICTED !!!

I actually wanted to comment earlier on "SMW vs CSW" but was too carried away with the news that he is casted in Athena. I had said in my earlier posts that it's SMW whom I love, but then if it's not CSW who portrayed SMW, will I still be so addicted to SMW ? I'm not sure ....... CSW in real life is very different from SMW (after stalking him for almost 2 months at Twitter, ha ha ha......, he is a young boy !), I can't even "recognise" him when he is a suju member. So I can only say that I have 2 idols SMW and CSW, but I think SMW will stay in my heart for a longer period :)

@270Mel, you are not alone, I'll join you here to continue our supoort and love for OML-SMW/CSW-KH/CR.

@269 epyc, really envy you !!!! I have told my friends that each of them will get an OML DVD from me as X'mas present this year (I figure it will be around Dec when the original OML DVD will be released here) ! I must call my Chinese friend to send me a copy first. Hmm hmm .......

Have a great weekend OML-hood ! Please keep this alive ............

@71doraemon, @68 kappy, @67 koreanpsyche - count me in as your neighbor (living at another adjacent planet). Even though I enjoyed watching Legend of Hyan Dang (per JB's recommendation) before, CSW's character in the drama never really stayed in my heart. I did not google about him at all. I wasn't even planning on watching OML until I read JB's recaps (I'm truly thankful to JB's hardwork in recapping kdramas). Just like other OML hoods, after watching ep1, I'm hooked, lined and sinker to this drama. This is when I discovered he's a member of Suju. From then on, I became a Suju fan and started watching some of their shows in youtube. I enjoyed watching their Full House and Explorer of Human Body shows. They are so hilarious in these 2 shows.

About SMW and CSW, I can't picture anyone else portraying SMW other than CSW as well. SMW is the one whom I'll remember the most and will stay in my heart. CSW has a lot of charisma on-screen which made the show enjoyable to watch. Not to mention, Chae Rim whom I also like in Dal Ja's Spring and All ABout Eve. The characters and their struggles are so relatable in our real life experience which is why I love this drama so much.

Yay for CSW in joining Athena. I haven't watched Iris and is not that interested in Athena (even though JWS and Cha Sung-won are in it). Now that CSW is in the show, I'll be anticipating for it.

Thanks to everyone here for keeping this OML bonding alive....

Hi! I'm a huge fan of the OMLhood, or rather an admirer of the individuals comprising it. You're honest, witty, articulate; and like me addicted to OML. Until now I was just contented with reading your posts which, in addition to watching favorite scenes from OML, makes bearable the void left by my "adopted" family (MW, KW, EJ, MJ) and their extended family and friends.

What I'm trying to say is I need you, guys. I still can't let go. Please keep the OMLhood active. Tell you what, I'll read again JA and watch all movies based on her novels if that's what it takes. And since I'm already here, could I ask my kababayan (Ace, Mel, Sajur, luvthisdrama) if "ajumma" is equivalant to "ale" in Tagalog?

Thanks! More power to the OMLhood.

Oopss, a typo: "equivalent" not "equivalant;" but I think you all know that. Gives me the opportunity to mention, though, that I have just read "For the love of god, lip-synch already" written 3 years ago. The article bashed the kpop groups in general and mentioned Su-Ju among others. The article and the earlier comments did not mention SW. I guess he wasn't a member of the group yet, or perhaps he wasn't that popular? Now the most recent comments were all in defense of SW and Su-Ju. A comment or two even mentioned OML. I guess SW has really come a long way!

Menci... you poor thing... What took you so long!!! If you are thinking this place is going to cure you from your OML addiction, you are WELCOME to join us!!!
Now, it does help ease the pain of the end of the drama.... For me this place is a haven that gives comfort and laughter, lots of deep thoughts about why oh why we are so committed to such a simple yet enchanting drama.... I've got lots of answers but also more questions as to why I can't shake this crazy addiction----a lot has to do with hottie CSW (what a hunk that gorgeous specimen, great smile, gestures) who was able to pull off a great job with Chae Rim... NOW, if you really think you'll get cured of your OML-- addiction think again.... You're going to join us and won't be able to get rid of your addiction---it'll get worse but it's okey awe're here just drop by anytime and rant or rave about OML or JA and Super Junior or Kpop... This will be quite entertaining and fun... you'll be more drawn and hooked into the world of OML....

Ajumma--- is like ate- just like ate is a respecful term used for an much older female
vs a slightly younger one.... It's like Tita (older female--like an aunt)

.... Enjoy yourself while you're here, I hope you get cured, me I'm hopelessly addicted with an incurable case of OMLitis...

Ta, ta .... Sweet dreams of SMW, til next time...

Mel, thanks for the clarification. I'm glad I came back to check even when I was't expecting a response that quickly.

Yep, a hottie indeed, this SW. (I hope "SW" is ok, I still associate CSW with my beloved hunk of City Hall.) Reminds me. The first time we saw SW's gorgeous body, at least half of it, his choco abs as described by some, was in episode 1 where Min Woo asked Gae Hwa to iron a shirt. I was so thrilled by it that I didn't see its significance. After rewatching the episode I realized that It was because Gae Hwa said something about his pretty face and beautiful body. He wanted to impress her! Walking away he even put his arms up and swayed to call attention to his body no doubt. Now, I'm sure that if it was an ajumma he was indiferent to, he would find no need to do that. That gesture was repeated in another episode. I can't remember when or why but I'll get to it.

Also in episode 1 in their first meeting Min Woo's eyes were on Gae Hwa's back (the lower part, lol). Although it was brief because she noticed his presence right away, I can imagine him thinking: Nice body.

Perhaps someone has commented on the same, in which case this comment will be like: Wow, I noticed that, too!

Javabeans, thanks for the space!

doraemon, strictly speaking? I have SMWitis. But then SMW is SMW because of OML so my addiction extends to OML. I have watched a few episodes of Super Junior Full House on youtube and I don't see SMW in Choi Si Won. Don't get me wrong. Si Won is himself a lovable guy. I can be crazy for him, too... or not, lol.

@Menci - welcome!

For me, ajumma is sort of equivalent to ale or manang. Ate is noona in Korean and there is an equivalent to tita that I can't quite remember at the moment (an older lady you're familiar with).

Re-read the lip-synch article and that was written 12/02/2007 and I can say that the K-pop groups have improved a lot since then. As an example, though Siwon is not here, here's 7 members of SuJu singing my favorite version of SNSD's Gee: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkFcZb0wz5A. Only a few members of k-pop groups are designated as lead/main vocals, but the group wouldn't be complete without the others. Each member contributes a different voice range in their music resulting in vocal harmonization and unison. That's what I like about these groups - the fact there's so many of them but when you listen to the songs you wouldn't notice their numbers. Take SNSD, I really love Tae-yeon's voice, but SNSD wouldn't be complete without Sunny for example (people always underestimate her). Also, each member has their own strengths, like Shindong who if you judge from his appearance you would think "what's he doing in SuJu?", but from all accounts he's a great rapper and choreographer. {Going off topic, if anyone's watching Invincible Youth (G7), Sunny, Yuri, and 4minute's Hyuna will be leaving the show because of their international promotions. I'll miss Sunny. =( }

On CSW and SMW - nobody's saying they are the same person. There's just some similarities because Siwon let Min-woo "borrow" some of part of his real self. And after watching and loving SMW, can anyone else imagine someone other than CSW playing him? Maybe, someone else could've played SMW (thank goodness it didn't happen!). Maybe we would still love MW or OML (for Chae Rim and Ye-eun most likely). But I am certain that whatever love we would have, it would be nothing to what we're showing now. =) Admit it or not, Min-woo as a character is really lovable, but he wouldn't be as adorable if Siwon didn't bring him to life with all the expressions and gestures.

On Super Show 3, I hope they're going to all the cities they went to for Super Show 2. The schedule for SS2 started on July '09 in Seoul and ended on April 2010 in Manila. I bought a magazine covering SS2 in Manila and was amazed with the preparations that went into it. And I also found out that some people are willing to spend at least $1,000 just to see SuJu. Some girl booked a room in the same hotel as the group just to get a glimpse of them. Another fan, watched the show in HK, then watched it the 2nd time in Taipei, then a 3rd time in Manila. Wow. And everywhere they went, super fans are just wild for them. Lifesize cardboard cutouts of the members even have their own bouncers guarding it (I kid you not) because some desperate fan would steal and take it home. The VIP tickets costs about $160 to $200 (these are the tickets to have because SuJu would only be a few feet away for you). And @Mel, if you're looking for a small venue...Seoul looks to be the likeliest choice...Here are the venues for SS2 and the capacities:

Seoul - Olympic Fencing Gymnasium - 6,341
Hong Kong - AsiaWorld-Expo - 13,500
Shanghai - Yuanshen Sports Centre Stadium - 20,000
Bangkok - Impact Arena - 12,000
Nanjing - Nanjing Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium - 13,000
Beijing - Beijing Wukesong Culture & Sports Center - 18,000
Taipei - Taipei Arena - 10,000 (adjustable)
Shanghai - Shanghai Indoor Stadium - 10,000
Kuala Lumpur - Putra Indoor Stadium - 16,000
Manila - Araneta Coliseum - 24,679 for end-stage concerts and 15,657 for center-stage concerts

@epyc - really envy the DVD!

Hi, MENCI! Welcome to our world! (you poor thing....are you sure you want to join us? MEL @275 has already warned you: you will not get rid of your addiction here, it will only become worse! hahahahaha!) But it is a clean, fun, enjoyable kind of addiction. And I am glad to share it with all of the ranters/ravers here.

Honestly, this site has become a haven for me, something that i look forward to after long hours of work. And the people here have become my extended family. So whenever I see the familiar names coming up with new comments / info or just plain random thoughts, my heart leaps a little leap of joy, saying , "öh, sobia (or kappy or mel, or doraemon,or luvthisdrama, or epyc or ace or sajor) is doing well enough to share her (or his) thoughts today. I smile a little knowing they are
still here and that they have not left me alone in my "rehabilitation", for surely , this site has become a group therapy session (LOL!)

(Random thought: i have not heard from firsttimenewbie lately---maybe she has fully recovered? Good for her!)

Thank you guys for the amazing gift of sharing!

Hi, OML hoods, just to update all that I had sent CSW a tweet inviting him to check out our Rant & Rave section here. Let's pray that he will do it (though honestly I don't think he will).

@ Doraemon - I've been searching high and low for a Super Show 2 DVD but unfortunately it's not yet available. Only the 1st Asia Tour is available but it's currently temporarily out of stock in Yesasia. It's available in Amazon.com though. Someone gave me a downloaded copy of SuJu in concert, I'm not sure if it's Super Show 1 or one of their events in Japan. Have you noticed that Japan is not included in the countries they are touring? Wonder why...maybe because they have "events" there? ; )

Anyway, for Super Show 3 here are some official news:
The upcoming tour which is titled Super Junior ‘The 3rd ASIA TOUR SUPER SHOW 3′ will start from Seoul on August 14th and 15th and will open in 13 Asian cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Taipei, Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Manila totaling 16 performances.

Would really love to see them perform live in Seoul this August, but my plan to go there wouldn't be until November. I guess I'll have to wait for their shows either in HK, Bangkok, or Manila.

@ 79-ace, you are so amazing in your research for SW--Athena googling and SS2 venues and their capacities, thanks for that........ I'm also looking at what would be the cheapest airfare, accommodations, souvenirs for SS3. I was looking at all the you tube fancams of SS2 venues, it seemed like the Araneta showed a lot of close-up SU JU interactions with the fans. Even the audience that were in the "nosebleed" sections got to see SU JU close up.... Like I said, I'm going with my loaded watergun!!! Or just a simple huge water bottle!!! And also thanks for the accounts of fans that can really do fangurling--wow one fan watched SS2 in Hong Kong, Taiwan and also Manila--she's got some money and one crazy addiction... just like us... CSW's guesting on WIN WIN saddened many fans because there weren't many to cheer him on. There were more for 2pm's Taec and CNBlue's Yongwa... it's okey.... CSW's fans apparently are older--more mature, but cannot be discounted in their/our devotion to HIM.....

ace--more of your love for Kpop, I wish we could just do a live manyways--2way, 3way phone call, your fangurling about Kpop--makes me laugh a lot!! My husband and I--mostly me watch G7--Invicible Youth, yes Sunny is a hidden gem in SNSD. It's too bad that Yuri, Sunny and Hyuna are leaving... of course to greener pastures. I am glad that SNSD maknae is also shining in MBC's We Got Married. Seohyun & Yonghwa are so adorable. How can they not fall for each other, these two young kids. Su Ju's crazy members, Shindong, yes how could he be a member but did you see the SS2 fancams in Manila, he entertained by counting in Tagalog and his "ano ba yan...etc" I was cracking up loudly with the fans on YT!!! I love SU JU's KRY--some of the best voices and ballads ever!!! Yesung and Sung Min, lucky for them and their stage show Il Jimae...... Such a crazy bunch of kids... So if you watch G7, are you watching the Invincible Baseball Team? It's got no subs but I enjoy it.... just simple gestures and facial expression can provide info to make me understand.
and ohh my neighbors, friends and family in the OMLhood just found a you tube account that has more love for OML.... there are 13 different videos of OML, enjoy...here's the account: http://www.youtube.com/user/kelly5566tw&fmt=18

I am agreement with koreanpsyche and Doraemon--this is a wonderful place for our addiction, like I said before I'll keep ranting and raving until I'm senile.... so family and friends let's keep it going, about the OMLhood being my extended family--it's quite true. And also when everyone places a post, it let's us know they are just a crazy as us in the OML addiction. I've got a handy dandy iphone (given as a gift by my lovely co-workers) and this iphone can connect me to Dramabeans and this rant/rave section practically anywhere. It's so much fun, the addiction to OML--I don't ever want to get rid of it. OMLitis and SMWitis.... bring it on!!!

epyc---I've got to get one of those OML dvds...

Doraemon-- I hope SI WON will buzz in here sometimes. Hopefully JB will also give us a quick visit though we know she's got her hands full...

So family and friends, see you next time in the OMLhood.......stay healthy.... well, if you can even with OMLitis and SMWitis........

@ 64 Kappy: I have been thinking long and hard of how to best to define this term, “bromance” for you, since it is one of the aspects of Athena that I am most looking forward to. While the term “bromance” does sound a bit creepy (and, er, incest-y, the more I think about it), the concept itself is not a creepy thing in actuality. If anything, a bromance is quite adorable to watch, whether it occurs in real life or on-screen. Here’s the definition I have come up with:

Bromance: a relationship between two men that deviates from the stereotypical heterosexual male friendship due to the presence of open communication, emotional expression, professions of mutual admiration, and frequently, open displays of affection. Famous examples of bromances: Matt Damon and Ben Affleck; Sam and Frodo in The Lord of the Rings; Churchill and FDR; Bert and Ernie (assuming the recent rumors are not true…).

I am just being silly. But honestly, pretty much ANY friendship between two heterosexual men where the guys involved actually seem to like each other can be labeled a bromance. And no, there is usually nothing more beyond that friendship. (Of course, if you spend a few minutes on the Internet, you will soon discover the amazing power of the fangirls to discover a homosexual subtext in every bromance involving one of their idols –a mental feat that is responsible for the genre known as slash fiction-- but that is just the powerful imagination of a young fangirl at work for you.)

I think a term like “bromance” only has real significance in a country, like the US, which tends to have really rigid notions of masculinity and dismisses open affection – whether it’s just kind words or outright hugging/skinship-- between straight men as being un-manly. From what I’ve seen, South Korean men definitely don’t mind hugging and touching each other, which is so refreshing. But expressing one’s feelings and otherwise communicating with each other is also a key aspect of bromances—they are functional relationships. And isn't that always nice to watch?

I have to admit that I get really happy at the thought of Siwon as a newbie agent in Athena bonding with his sun-bae, played by the terrific Jung Woo-Sung. It is very easy to identify with characters who are low on the totem pole and not yet established in their careers, plus I have a soft spot for movies/dramas that depict mentoring relationships -- it’s why I always appreciated the scenes between Shijoon and Minwoo in OML; I really wanted to see Shijoon teach Minwoo a thing or two and impart his wisdom. With Athena, I also hope the relationship on-screen mirrors what goes on behind the scenes: Siwon is so lucky to be getting these opportunities to learn from such talented and experienced actors in big-name projects early in his career. I am really hoping it bodes well for him and his acting career and that we will be seeing him act for many more years to come…

@ 37 Lumi: That Hotelier fan story sounds amazing; I have been searching for it online, but haven’t found it yet…But I am really impressed by how creative some people can get about their favorite shows/artists. Perhaps that fan is now writing kdramas of her own.

@ 48 Ace: I have to say that Siwon is rapidly catching up to Minwoo for me. Like some of the other commenters above, I was living in a far away galaxy before OML, where I had heard of Super Junior vaguely but remained ignorant of Siwon and his many talents. But now that I know who Siwon is, I am so amazed by him -- he can sing, dance, model, act, make the funniest facial expressions, do tae kwon do, jump rope in tandem with other idols without breaking a leg, speak English and Mandarin well… While I love our Minwoo, I find Siwon inspiring and am grateful to him for giving OML his all, despite all his other duties. Plus, on a shallow note, he is just so darn handsome…

@ 50 Kappy: Such a good observation about Kae-hwa’s clothes and what they symbolize. I agree that Kae-hwa is stifled by the difficult circumstances in her life, plus I think she has kind of trapped herself by throwing herself into her roles as mom/housekeeper/baby-sitter without thinking whether she wants more out of her life. And you’re right, she did wear A LOT of horizontal stripes throughout the early part of the show – JB’s awesome selection of screencaps make it easy to count them all up… her interview outfit in Ep 1 and 2, a cleaning t-shirt and long-sleeved t-shirt in Ep 6, her t-shirt in the Ep 6 kiss scene, her blazer in Ep 7, her cleaning t-shirt in Ep 8 when she is opening the bear boxes... Man, that is a lot of stripes. Although Kae-hwa does wear some floral prints before the last episode, the prints are so small, the flowers are barely noticeable. Also, in Episode 12, when Minwoo is trapped in his apartment while waiting for the scandal to quiet down, he too is wearing a light blue and white striped sweater—more prison-style stripes! Even the sauna outfits in Episode 12 make you think of prisoners due to their lack of individuality…All I can say is I really, really love this show and its attention to detail. What a well-crafted drama…

@ Menci: Your first comment put a big smile on my face… And thanks for pointing out the circumstances of Minwoo’s first abs-baring. I always thought that little stretch he did was odd, but now I see he just wanted to attract Kae-hwa’s attention to his fabulous frame. If I remember correctly, Kae-hwa thinks to herself he could be shirtless around her because he didn’t see her as a woman, but she couldn’t be more wrong!

@ 80 Koreanpsyche: Thank you for mentioning me in your list-- and I feel the same way. I am so appreciative of the OML hood and its denizens, and think of you all as friends.

@everyone: Like @ 75 Mel said, this site is a haven, which makes Javabeans and you all my angels! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and opinions with me, and allowing me to air my own without worry or embarrassment. You are a kind, mature, funny and thoughtful bunch. While I would prolly have been just as addicted to OML without this site, I would not have had so much fun!

I enjoyed reading all the comments of this drama OML. I can also admit that I'm having a OML withdrawal too. I really admire CSW as a person, He is born with privileges: good parents, Christian, rich family, talented, handsome and despite all of these he is humble and good Christian. This site is a haven to those who don't want this to end. Have a Blessed day Everyone. Mabuhay and Mahalo.

Hello everyone...been quite busy these past few days..happy to find comments are still pouring in!

i lol'ed at a lot of things here.. especially the OMLitis, SMWitis, hehe, this forum inspires creation of new words, huh? What else, OMLhood, and...uhm, i'm pretty sure i'm missing something..

Agree with @mel, @ace, and @others, this won't cure OML sickness, might actually prolong it, and definitely you'll be thankful for it!

and yeah, the Jane Austen thing.. i also loved her books (i have only read three so far, got the other three about 4 months ago).. i just only knew about JA about a year ago (i've been living in a cave before, you know! perhaps same thing with you guys just recently finding about Suju), started with watching Keira Knightley's PP, loved it. then read the book, and was addicted, at that time even thinking that the movie adaptation is a failure. Oh it's a good movie though, and I also watched the BBC PP adaptation, and I still prefer the 2005 version, largely because of its more quotable dialogues, and Keira. N.Abbey, not so much. The best JA for me is Mansfield Park, totally fell for it, though not as fast as I did with PP. I liked the character of Fanny Price, love even her "timidness". Her character is the one I can most associate with Kae Hwa, i just do. KH is definitely stronger than Fanny, and that's a good thing also. They're the same in that both are good natured (even saintly good for Fanny, which may not always be good), they both can persevere (KH only leaving her husband after 3rd party) and both want and make everybody around them better. Sort of mother-like (though Fanny not yet a mother, KH being a mother to all).

@firstimenewbie, no, i did not comment anything about yura on viikii.. or so as i remember.. sometimes i find her hot though =)

@Kappy and @Sobia regarding KH's dress... oh so you noticed it, good one there.. i did not give much thought about it... i liked KH in her stripes though, especially in her interview dress in the early episode, i believe same dress she wore the second time she went to MW's house the. The floral dress in the last episodes, is perhaps is to contrast with what she usually wears, showing her "bloom" also. Though I think KH suits the light colored and colorful stripes better than the dark dress in the end (i like light colored dress in general), i get the contrast, and it's meant to show her change into being better.

oh forgot to mention.. @menci and @amy, glad that you both are additions to OMLhood...

and so CSW is having another drama, eh?.. i'm happy for you guys.. as i've said, though i'm not as much interested to him as most here seem to be, i find it a joy reading your raves about him. and i myself can be happy for him also..perhaps i might check on that drama also.. i actually started watching Bad Guy (thankfully, i can start now), so far, after 2 episodes, i'm liking it.. Athena will be in the same genre, right? at least i know i can like this kind of drama..

have a nice day to all

and many thanks again to javabeans!

Hi, OML hood, I'm so happy, finally manage to catch suju on the cable, just watched the making of bonamana MV ! I've been tuning in to the korean channels very often nowadays, hoping to catch suju .......

While watching the show just now, I think I found the answer as to why I like Si-won in the bonamana MV (frankly I didn't quite like him in the other suju MVs, such as Sorry Sorry Sorry and Super Gril). The answer is because I found images of SMW. I figured during the time suju was filming bonamana MV, Si-won was still filming OML, as a result, he has to maintain certain profile of SMW for the drama (eg he can't change his hair style to something more funky like his other suju members did). Ha, that's why the familiarity there, I saw SMW instead !!! No wonder i don't feel the same watching the other live shows of suju performing bonamana.....see, how obsessed I'm with SMW :)

Having watched many suju interviews, live shows and performances on YT, I feel that Si-won keeps a fairly low profile while with the group. He is not the most vocal one (nor popular one), always standing quitely at the side, watching his fellow members in action; but no doubt very outstanding since he is the tallest and best looking among them (oh oh ....hope I'm not offending any one here, if so, sorry sorry sorry .......) He also seems to be a humble guy watching his interview at the OML set in Entertainment Weekly. Quite unbeliveable that such a perfect guy exist in real life ............

That's all for now, look forward to hearing from OML hood......300 and beyond !!!

... Hello to all the ANGELS (@86 SOBIA) IN THE OMLHOOD-HAVEN..... welcome to our next OML ANGEL Hawaiian @87 Amy---a big OML GROUP HUG to you.. and of course to Menci....

@ Sobia--thanks for that word Angels or are we Devils (friends in the OMLhood).?? Also "bromance" (@ kappy and Sobia for SMW's Athene) I don't consider it "perverse." Growing up both in Asia but mostly in the U S, it's quite nice to see the ease in demonstrating closeness between Asian males vs the awkwardness in the Western society. Even in western females, the physical demonstration is stilted vs the shoulder hugs and even holding hands that are quite common in Asian cultures. In one of the shows in Arirang, an American male working in Seoul stated that he was quite surprised with the employees drinking out as well as singing in the norabangs-karaoke joints--including, umm having love shots with their bosses. And that this was a very common practice in the Korean society. In Western greetings hugging same sex and of opposite sex is quite common but not in the Asian cultures....... no need to get technical. As in Korea it's the bow and there is the Filipino greeting of blessings by taking the elder's hand and placing it on the one's forehead--a sign of respect. This is practiced widely in the Philippines, my kids do it once in a while... me not too much but it is nice to see. But it's touching to see it.

@89 Sajor---(I understand your attraction to YR, she is quite a looker-sexy and is tall to boot) I'm glad you're still with us and also that you enjoy JA and her works, I did enjoy the Keira Knightly version of PP but the 1995 BBC version will always be quite a favorite..... as for your ep 16 KH blooming yes vs the wearing of horizontal stripes, KH did bloom and that was because of SMW's cultivation. SMW went to the BFF--DR and even the ex to help build up KH's confidence to accept his-SMW's proposal. Yes, that KH was a woman, and that SMW did like--love her for what she was. And wasn't it MW's drunkin revelation to reporter Han that fully uncovered MW's "pure--innocent" love for our KH... We can't forget that SJ also contributed to the MW--KH relationship. He gave the encouragement, constructive criticism to MW in his acting-singing as well as behavior and healthy rivalry towards KH.. SJ was a big impetus for MW to act upon his growing attraction--love for KH. SJ encouraged KH to accept the reality and genuine love that MW felt for her. By the way when the series intros were going on like the photo shoots, YR and MW were placed together and KH was far away> I kept thinking that there is a Kdrama practice that couples--soulmates are shot close together. This made me question if KH and MW would end up together...

I just loved how MW was such a simple male. His jealousy and feelings of neglect towards the attention and importance KH and SJ gave to each other. In return MW demanded KH's attention. An example is in ep 8m, MW has just separated from YR--after a failed date. MW remembers it's KH's birthday and buys a cake. On the way to pick up KH, MW finds that KH is getting into SJ's car... jealousy... MW is slowly maturing here. The previous MW would have gotten out of the car, interrupted SJ and KH and present his cake. MW ends up giving his cake to the cute security guard and waits up for KH quietly and is very curious as to why she is so late getting home as well as upbeat. I loved these scenes like in the kitchen when he stares at KH and tries to figure out why she is in such a happy mood.... of course this also leads to MW watching the video of YE dancing but getting her hair pulled and showing the beginnings of fatherly show of concern....

As for the beginning of the KH-MW attraction, there are so many places... Yeah, like Menci stated in ep 1, MW shoving his blue shirt--topless and stretched out was kind of like a peacock showing how beautiful he is... strutting his stuff and what stuff--amazing feathers he had, still has. This may also indicate when KH noticed, this godlike specimen(!!!) in that she covered her eyes to prevent maybe the glare of beauty and attraction from blinding her eyes (? already?) In her mind KH did question if he found her as a woman... with the obvious answer no... OR was it really no?? Could it be that MW was already aware of KH as a woman and because she wasn't showing a "fangurling" attitude when they first met--awe and what an ego buster when MW first meets KH questioning why someone would have such a huge picture of MW in the bedroom--was the owner in their right mind? Also KH questioned how much that face cost (plastic surgery??)--what a laugh. Adding insult to injury MW--jumping to conclusion asks KH what is her child's name to address the autograph, KH has no idea then finally gives her BFF's name. Then adding insult to injury KH asks if MW is acquainted with Kim Myung Min the prickly "great actor," that great actors hang out with their own kind while MW is a only a good looking newbie actor who'd hang out with other newbies. And so he went ahead to strut his feathers requesting KH to iron his shirt... topless in all his glory........ and sooo, more ego buster by KH leaving the shirt burning on the ironing board behind to get to MJ....... POOR MW...

and sooo.... @48 Sobia and 91 Doraemon regarding the difficulty in diffrentiating CSW and SMW, it does get difficult.... I love how SW portrayed SMW. I totally agree that with you that no one else can portray MW other than CSW. As a long time fan of CSW, I believe he will be a great actor with the ability to portray any kind of role be it lovable or villain. He has the chops to make it!! I cannot see CSW without SU JU. In the beginning he was quite active in variety shows, showing that he's quite capable of course physically, dancing and singing were no problem. He was actually interviewed a lot even for a young man--older teenager he had what it takes. Maybe he has just been held back to give other members their chance to shine. In the latest Music Bank, he was encouraged to sing the encore after winning... He's got a good voice, it's just there are others in SU JU that have "power" voices. As for his image he can do anything with his hair, weight, face... etc, I'll still be one huge fan... He doesn't need to speak or do anything spectacular, he just stands out........ Athene and Choi Si Won--- fighting!!!

... am slowly watching Country Calls with Lee Soo Kyung-- she is so goofy, no clue but quite lovable in this drama. It's on Veoh with good eng subs.

... have a good day ANGELS from the OMLhood, for now no chance of getting a cure for OMLitis nor SMWitis--CSWitis either.........

to 300 and beyond!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@Mel – wow! Thanks for the links! Just tell me if you’re watching SS3 either in HK, Bangkok, or Manila…let’s meet up! It’s better to watch the concert with someone you know at least. I was going to say something about what we’ll do with the younger SuJu fans, but I’ll just resist saying something that might incriminate me in the future. I’m actually scared of the die-hard ELFS. They absolutely terrify me! Do you have the link of Shindong counting in Filipino? I was trying to find one in YT but can’t find it. I’m not watching Invincible Baseball Team, but I do love some of the other KBS shows like Star Golden Bell Challenge, Chitchat of Beautiful Ladies, Vitamin, Love in Asia, Entertainment Weekly, and some of their documentaries. I’m tuning in to Arirang sometimes too.

Re: Bromance – I was trying to find the link on YouTube where I found out that Siwon was the most affectionate person among the SuJu members. He’s so affectionate that most of them are annoyed with him about it. One member said that he’s quite polite and reserved with members of the opposite sex, but when the girls are gone, he’s like, “Give me a kiss, hyung! Quickly!” Or if he hasn’t seen someone for a while, he gives them a tight hug and asks if they missed him. Another member said that after a performance or practice, if someone compliments Siwon that he did well, Siwon would reply, “Really? Then give me a kiss if I’m really good!” I think their term for Siwon is “love deprived” or “love-deficient”. {I really feel like a stalker when I get to learn some more facts about him. But let’s see how far my stalker-ish habit would take me!} Okay, if you don’t know this already, Siwon’s father owns the second largest supermarket chain in South Korea, his mother is a diplomat, he has a younger sister, Choi Jiwon, and he has a niece he adores, Yu-na. His ideal girl (don’t know if this is true or not): Christian, wavy-haired with abs {raising my hand!}

@ Amy – welcome! And have a blessed day too!

Some random thoughts:
> Yay! S. Korea won against Nigeria and qualified in the round of 16 matches.
> SuJu’s repackaged album would be released next week with four additional tracks including their follow-up single “No Other”. The digital sound source for the single will be released on Friday through various music sites with the album due out in stores three days later. The groups is scheduled to appear on a special episode of Music Bank on June 25, giving their final performance of Bonamana.

To everyone – to 300 posts and beyond!
BTW, does anyone know if there’s a limit to the posts here at dramabeans? Some sites restrict the # of posts – can anyone ask JB, please? I think we should just make sure since it looks like we’re not stopping at 300!

@Mel - would love to do a video call with you...but unfortunately, I don't have an iPhone like you and my phone does not have any hi-tech features. ; ) I'm not tech-savvy either so I really don't have any idea how to use the built-in iSight camera in my MacBook to do video calling and conferencing. Just send me an e-mail or connect with me through Facebook. Check out my current profile picture - I used one of SW 's pictures for Men's Health magazine. Warning: hazardous to your health. Correction: S. Korea did not win against Nigeria. It was actually a draw 2-2, but it felt like they won because Nigeria got eliminated. =)

.... okey, okey I lied, @95 I said that would be my last post for today but... you know @ Ace I've just got to get back to you... We both make some pair don't we... not only are we addicted to OML now we're stalking Si Won together!!!! (What else would you call it... I bet if we both lived in the same city we'd be best buds....!!!) Between the two of us here, I bet he's not going to tweet us back.... but Si Won could be hoovering around this post just to savor the many fangurling moments.... I wonder if he ever asks Brian--a bible study brother (of Fly to the Sky fame also a crazy nut!!) translate our many-many posts???? Oh yeah, too bad about the three way call, anyways, you wouldn't want to look at me... just talking is fine. And the iphone, well, it's not the new one, I was talking about skype.... but this rant/rave section is still a wonderful great way to communicate. As for the SS3 concert it's looking brighter. I have to coordinate w spouse as to when I can escape the hustle bustle to see SU JU, yes let's get together... Like you I am also terrified of the ELFs, so if we go, we've got to watch it--but I want to bring a huge poster with OML written on it with our love for SMW and KH!!!! .... I've got my kimchi sisters saving up so we can see SS3, not only will you have me but other crazy Si Won---Super Junior fans. As for SW being born with a silver spoon in his mouth, yes it's true... Rich, handsome and famous.... all rolled into one!!!! If I was only younger.......!!!

Yes, the other SU JU members do get annoyed with SW being so reserved in front of others specially of the female persuasion but when it's just the guys, he's very bromantic.....

okey for SS2 Manila with Shindong couting in Tagalog there are very many, just type in SS2 Manila introduction, here' s one that shows Si Won with the others as
well as Shindong counting and saying "ano ba yan"--what is that... enjoy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwSG7l2EicQ&feature=related

can you believe we're almost at 300, I sure hope there isn't a limit to posts, I know some blog sites won't even allow you to post one after the other.... so enjoy, and again, dream of SMW........... DAE HA MINGUK---KOREA FIGHTING!!!

Another hope for a brighter tomorrow, healthy, with a full stomach and hoping no virus will slow down nor crash the PC in the OMLhood......... yey, 300 and beyond!!
NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!!!!
