Oh My Lady: Episode 16 (Final)

Ah, the end is here! I suspect this episode made most if not all fans very happy, as it tied up the plot in a light-hearted but satisfactory way that was in keeping with the tone of the drama. It’s too bad that things didn’t get really compelling until about Episode 10 (then stepped it up with Episode 12 on — incidentally when Yura took a big step backward — coincidence? I think not) — which is frankly rather late for me to be connecting with a drama.

It’s to the actors’ credit that their amusing and sweet interactions were able to carry the plot until the story finally managed to tap into that emotional place with Min-woo’s growth as a father and as a person. I’m just glad that this one ended on a high note, because so many finale episodes feel like a letdown — they’re either too rushed or dragged out as an extended epilogue.

FINAL EPISODE RECAP

Min-woo asks Kae-hwa to be Ye-eun’s mother, explaining that he had purposely waited to ask her until after the musical premiered. Nobody could be as good a mother to Ye-eun as she is, “And I need you. Let’s marry.”

(Omo! Usually when episodes end on cliffhangers, the next episode drops the tension back down, but in this case they just upped the ante.)

Kae-hwa is stunned, but Min-woo adds, “I’m not saying this out of the blue. I’ve thought this over seriously for a long while. Think it over, then give me your answer. I can wait as long as you need.”

Min-woo is invited along for a celebratory drink with The Show Co. staff, and Jae-hee remarks that it feels like Min-woo’s a part of their office family now, seeing as he has come to all their gatherings. Min-woo smiles and, while looking at Kae-hwa, says pointedly, “I think so too. It feels like a family.”

He’s extra solicitous to her, offering little things like napkins and such, which Shi-joon finds amusing while Kae-hwa is exasperated. When the others urge her to drink more, Min-woo swoops in to play the “black knight,” i.e, drink for her.

Min-woo’s behavior is so noteworthy that Jae-hee asks teasingly if their fake scandal is actually real. Kae-hwa blurts, “No!” just as Min-woo answers, “Yes.” (Such a mixed reaction makes the others think there’s more to this relationship than they’re letting on, and they exchange knowing looks.) Kae-hwa rises to leave early because of the kids, and Min-woo hurriedly excuses himself too, accompanying her out.

Kae-hwa is impatient with his exaggerated attentiveness, and says that she’ll give her answer now: “I’m not going to marry again.” He asks her to think about it some more, but she replies that a lot of thought has already gone into making this decision (not to remarry).

A bit indignant, he says it’s cowardly to swear off marriage because her first one failed. Maybe she just met the wrong guy the first time — it’s always possible she’ll meet a good person the second time around.

Kae-hwa replies that she doesn’t want to entertain such an expectation, and besides, she has Min-ji. He counters that a daughter isn’t a husband — and once Min-ji grows up and gets married, will she be fine being alone? That makes her pause briefly, but she reasserts her stance.

Min-woo: “Are you that afraid?”
Kae-hwa: “Yes, I am! Do you know what marriage is?”
Min-woo: “‘What do you know when you have no life experience?’ Is that what you’re telling me?”
Kae-hwa: “You haven’t been hurt so you don’t know. You don’t know what that pain is of promising to love each other for the rest of your life and having that shattered. So please don’t talk to me about marriage again. I’m sorry to say it like this.”

She walks off, leaving him pondering her words.

Kae-hwa’s words make him look deeper into the cause of her resistance. Thus the next morning, he intercepts Byung-hak just as the latter is leaving his house (humming “Sorry Sorry” in a meta moment, lol).

Min-woo gets to the point, asking aggressively what the heck Byung-hak did to Kae-hwa to make her swear off marriage forever. Byung-hak returns that this is hardly his concern, but Min-woo says it matters “because it’s a hindrance to her marrying me.”

Byunk-hak’s reaction is pure confusion: “Why?” Why would he want a woman like Kae-hwa when he’s a star? Min-woo presses on with his question, which elicits a roundabout answer about how she’s a difficult and tiring woman to live with. Min-woo watches with narrowed eyes, reading between the lines — he cheated, huh?

Defensively, Byung-hak turns it around on Kae-hwa, saying she doesn’t know how to make herself pretty; it felt like he was living with a housekeeper. In fact, he never bought even her flowers — not because he forgot or anything, but simply because he never felt inspired to buy them for her. You know, since looks are the only reason for loving a woman and all. (I’m not even offended by this comment, because Byung-hak is such a silly idiot that the sentiment has no sting coming from him.)

Min-woo asks if he ever apologized for hurting her. Byung-hak laughs, saying it’s embarrassing to do that. Min-woo tells him firmly, “Apologize to her. Ask her officially for her forgiveness.” Byung-hak finds this an odd demand coming from Min-woo, who replies, “I’m asking as the man who loves her.”

Now that Min-woo has made up his mind to woo Kae-hwa, he gets busy trying to win her over. For instance, he waits outside her apartment to give the girls a ride to school, and reacts in concern to hear Kae-hwa hasn’t eaten breakfast. After dropping off the girls, he takes her to a fancy buffet, where he even serves her.

Kae-hwa worries over the pricy food, trying to convince him to watch his spending because he must have lost a lot of money in the cancelled endorsement deals. Min-woo answers matter-of-factly that they probably add up to about 3 billion won ($2.5 million), but is unfazed. He’s got money in the bank and is confident he can get more work; he’ll consider this a luxurious hiatus from work.

Unimpressed, Kae-hwa urges him to adopt a frugal attitude and says she’s better off than he is, since at least she has a regular salary.

At work, a huge arrangement of red roses is delivered, addressed to Kae-hwa from Min-woo. While the other employees all smile at her knowingly, Kae-hwa tries to explain it away in innocent terms: “Can’t this be a thank-you?” They don’t buy it for a second.

Min-woo sends her a text, which is totally over-the-top and ridiculous (“More beautiful than a flower… Kae-hwa”). Embarrassed and uncomfortable, Kae-hwa says she’ll clear the flowers out of the office and takes them to the stairwell, thinking Min-woo is being shameless. But they do bring a smile to her face, as it’s been ages since she’s received flowers from anyone (which is why Min-woo made the gesture in the first place, in reaction to Byung-hak’s remark).

Next, Min-woo takes a cake to Bok-nim in thanks for treating Ye-eun, then asks for a favor, as she is a friend to Kae-hwa. His statement that “I’m intending to marry Yoon Kae-hwa” so shocks her that Bok-nim drops her coffee and stares at him incredulously.

Bok-nim rushes to ask Kae-hwa about it, wanting to know when the wedding is. She dismisses Kae-hwa’s grumbling that he’s just a kid — 28 is plenty grown-up, and the seven-year age difference is nothing. How can she let a guy like him slip through her fingers?

Kae-hwa grumbles that Min-woo’s proposal asked her to be Ye-eun’s mother, not his wife. Bok-nim sees through Kae-hwa’s complaining and smiles: “You really do like Min-woo.” That’s why she’s disappointed over the wording of his proposal, right? Bok-nim waves aside her resistance, saying that if they like each other, what’s the big deal? In her eyes, Min-woo is serious about her.

Min-woo takes the family out to a nice restaurant. Kae-hwa is self-conscious about coming to a place like this where they’ll be watched, but Min-ji enjoys eating out for once, and Min-woo tells her that it doesn’t matter to him. He pats Ye-eun on the head, saying, “I’m going to raise her proudly, since she’s my daughter.” Which is probably the most effective thing he could have said to impress her, and she allows herself to look at him with moony eyes (but only when he’s not looking back at her).

When Kae-hwa takes Ye-eun to the bathroom, Min-woo tries to make conversation with Min-ji. He sees this as a chance to suss out her thoughts and asks if she’d like having a sister like Ye-eun. Min-ji is pretty sharp and asks point-blank, “Are you going to marry my mother?” Her bluntness takes him by surprise, but he confides that he wants to. Still, he has to first hear out Min-ji’s opinion and wait for her mother’s answer.

She asks, “If you end up marrying my mother and then a prettier lady comes along, are you going to divorce my mom?” Min-woo gapes incredulously, but Min-ji points out that he works with beautiful actresses all the time: “If you betray my mother, it’ll be so sad for her.”

He tells her solemnly, “That’ll never happen. I’ll promise that to you.” They pinky-swear on it.

The musical continues its run and after another of Min-woo’s performances, he calls Kae-hwa, who is working late — or at least, she lies that she is. He offers to pick her up from the office, but for whatever reasons (fear, insecurity, nerves), Kae-hwa rejects the offer.

Reporter Han overhears Min-woo muttering to himself after the call, and says knowingly that he must be stuck in an unrequited love. Min-woo is wary, but Reporter Han has some insights about the situation, and his comments pique Min-woo’s curiosity. Wanting to hear more thoughts on his situation, Min-woo goes along with the reporter’s suggestion to grab a drink.

Kae-hwa works late, keeping herself busy to avoid going home right away. Finding her still in the office, Shi-joon offers her a ride home, and they pause for a break to talk. Tentatively, Kae-hwa says she hopes that he and his wife can give things another try, as it seems they still care for each other. Although Shi-joon doesn’t respond, he’s not offended by her statement and in fact seems to consider her words.

He turns the topic to Min-woo, asking how things are between them. Kae-hwa can’t feign ignorance since Shi-joon knows too much, but first she asks how much he knows. He answers, “One person is sending flowers, but the other person doesn’t seem ready to receive them.”

She confirms that Min-woo seems to be serious about a relationship but she’s not sure; she doesn’t feel confident that she can be seen “as a woman” to anybody. Shi-joon tells her she can — enough that he felt something for her for a short while. This stuns her, as he had never given any hint of his interest, but Shi-joon assures her that there is no cause for alarm. He has dealt with his feelings, and things won’t get awkward between them.

Liquor loosens Min-woo’s reserve (and his tongue) enough that he starts to talk freely about his woes, wondering how Kae-hwa can reject his proposal. Grabbing his laptop, the reporter starts to take notes, asking questions about why she rejected him and how long he’s had feelings for her. And I love Min-woo’s answer:

Min-woo: “Since we went looking for Ye-eun. No — since she had to go to the sauna because of me. No — since she fought with Mr. Jung [Yoon-seok]. Or was it from the beginning?”

Reporter Han says he must like her quite a lot, and Min-woo answers, “Yes, an awful lot. She’s different from the women I dated in the past. She’s beautiful. That’s why I think, ‘This is my woman.'” With that, he falls asleep, his head coming to rest on the tabletop.

Huh — well, this is a new side to Min-woo, and the reporter finds him pretty pure-hearted after all. It’s nothing like the partying image he’d had earlier. He starts typing a story about Min-woo’s “heartfelt love story” and uses words like “rebirth as a real actor.”

Han’s article spawns a wave of press, which now portrays Min-woo in a much more down-to-earth, humanistic light. They even declare that he has now washed off the disgrace of his former image as a lousy actor.

Yoon-seok is dissatisfied — I guess this good press does him no good, since he has lost his hold on Min-woo — but everyone else’s opinion of Min-woo makes a drastic upswing. He presents himself modestly in interviews, and even producer Eom is impressed with him. In fact, Eom gives himself credit for having recognized Min-woo’s talents early on, but Byung-hak scoffs since he didn’t do anything about them. Eom counters that he’ll get Min-woo for his next production.

Eom isn’t the only one wanting to cast Min-woo, and Shi-joon conveys an offer to Min-woo from a Japanese producer colleague, who has sent a proposal for Min-woo to take a role in a Japanese drama. Min-woo is pleased with the news, but as soon as he sees that he’d have to live in Japan for a year, he declines. Shi-joon thinks it’s a great opportunity, but Min-woo answers that he has somebody to watch over here.

And that’s not all: Jae-hee hands Kae-hwa some documents to give to Min-woo, which are papers for a new advertising contract offer worth 1 billion won (nearly $1 million). Apparently advertisers love his new image as a dedicated young single father.

Kae-hwa takes the documents to Min-woo’s photo shoot, where he takes a break from posing for a makeup touchup. The makeup artist tells him that his “scandal partner” (Kae-hwa) is really below his level, and offers to introduce him to a younger model friend. She describes the girl as one of those innocent-looking beauties, to which Min-woo answers, “I like sexy women.”

Naturally this is hardly thrilling for Kae-hwa to hear, even though Min-woo is actually making that quip as a way to reject the date. (Rather than saying no outright, saying that he prefers sexy women is a way of declining her friend, who is the opposite.)

Feeling dispirited, Kae-hwa decides not to approach and starts to leave. She runs into Yura, who congratulates her on her relationship and assures her that she has decided to move on.

Kae-hwa hands the envelope to Yura and asks for her to give it to Min-woo, making up the excuse that she’s busy and has to leave. Yura does, and when Min-woo hears the reason, he hurries out and tries to call Kae-hwa. Alas she isn’t answering the phone, so he goes to the theater, where he is told she is still back at the office.

Shi-joon finds her on the roof ignoring Min-woo’s phone call, and offers her a beer. In her melancholy mood, Kae-hwa offers to tell Shi-joon a “really funny story” and confides that Min-woo proposed to her. Even funnier is the fact that her heart thrilled to hear it. It was exciting to be seen as a woman again — but today, that feeling was shattered.

I’d assumed she was hurt by the makeup stylist’s dismissive comments about her, but I’m actually relieved that those words weren’t the cause of her mood. In actuality, it was the sight of him in action, looking like a star, that made her feel like they were completely unsuited for each other: “He seemed like someone from another land.”

Shi-joon points out that Min-woo was a star from the start — it’s not like she didn’t know. Kae-hwa answers that at the beginning, he had nothing to do with her so that wasn’t an issue. But as they got to know each other, she saw him struggling and felt sorry for him, and nagged him when he said silly things — and those things felt comfortable and manageable. Now that he’s doing better… it’s like he’s back to being a lofty star and the chasm is growing between them.

Shi-joon tells her that Min-woo likes her very much — enough to give up a drama opportunity for her. “Min-woo has changed this much — shouldn’t you recognize his feelings?”

Min-woo arrives at the office to find it empty, then recalls the roof. He arrives outside just in time to see Kae-hwa wiping away some tears. So much about this situation upsets him, and he strides up to her, grabs her wrist (urg!), and takes her downstairs.

He feels hurt that she has been ignoring his calls and avoiding him, particularly when she knew he was waiting for her — and now she’s here crying in front of Shi-joon — and raises his voice to a yell. Kae-hwa tells him levelly that she has already given him her reply, but he ignored it. No matter how she thinks about it, they don’t suit.

He argues that if he cared about those things — age, status — he would never have liked her from the start. She returns that this is just proof that he’s young, and they should quit while they’re ahead. And he should go to Japan.

That gets his attention: “Is that why?” He explains that he didn’t tell her about the Japan offer because he never intended to go. She takes issue with his high-handedness in dragging her away, saying that she’s ashamed of him when he does that, and gets angry and starts fights out of misunderstandings.

Min-woo asks, “So are you saying you can’t marry me? Are you saying I won’t do because I’m immature and young?” Kae-hwa answers yes. She can’t marry someone who reacts in such unpredictable ways — it makes her feel uneasy. She storms off, leaving him to shout her name in frustration.

You know, I’m actually relieved that they had this fight. They’ve never fought for real, and this addresses issues that they’ve been skirting thus far. It’s also nice to see some real conflict — genuine emotional clashing and hurt feelings — rather than the glib, fluffy sort of conflict that has characterized most of this show.

That night, Byung-hak calls Kae-hwa, who finds him drunk and in a thoughtful mood. To her surprise, he tells her, “I’m sorry.” He acknowledges that he never apologized properly, so he’s doing it now. She did nothing wrong — he’s the bad guy — and they divorced because he wronged her. But he felt too embarrassed to apologize, so he couldn’t do it: “But after listening to Sung Min-woo, I felt I was really wrong, and that I had to apologize. So I came here.”

That surprises her — he met Min-woo? Byung-hak gives Min-woo some credit for the way he had insisted he apologize, admitting that the kid was pretty impressive with the way he said, “As the man who loves Yoon Kae-hwa, please apologize.”

He says it one more time: “Kae-hwa, I’m sorry. I was wrong. I pushed you aside and hurt your feelings — forgive me for everything. Forget that all, and make a new start. And if he upsets you, come and tell me right away, and I’ll give him a scolding.”

(Aww. An unexpectedly touching moment from Byung-hak. As with the last time he defended Kae-hwa, this gives us a glimpse into why they were married in the first place while also showing us why they didn’t work. It’s rare to see ex-spouses in a drama ending on amicable terms, and it’s a nice change.)

Min-woo comes home feeling frustrated, and looks over his drama proposal documents. This gives him an idea, and he starts typing away. And when we see what he’s drafting — gahhh, Min-woo is so cute. I about died reading the title of his document: “Proposal On Living For Yoon Kae-hwa.”

In the morning, he comes to her apartment and gives her the envelope. He looks at her with puppy dog eyes and tells her to give her response after reading it.

Kae-hwa reads Min-woo’s proposal, which is formatted like a business document. In keeping with the theme of the drama proposal packet, he has drawn up Kae-hwa’s resumé, only it’s more like a life resumé than a professional one, outlining her traits and skills such as “she has a loud voice,” “makes killer ddukbokki and kimbap,” and “she likes Kim Myung-min better than Sung Min-woo, but I want to forgive her anyway.” Also of note: she has become a mother to Ye-eun, “and now is the woman in my heart.”

Under the “future plans” column, he has scheduled marriage in a month, a vacation cruise to celebrate their one-year anniversary, and so forth. Byung-hak’s apology had started to melt her resolve, and now she has to smile a teeny bit at Min-woo’s document.

Jung-ah has been offered a job in Daejeon, which is located in central Korea and about a two-hour drive from Seoul. She asks Shi-joon for his approval, suggesting that they need some space between them. As she leaves, she tells him that she realizes she hasn’t been the best wife to him either (I presume she means before the adultery, since otherwise that statement would be met with a resounding DUH).

But the door isn’t closed on them forever — with Shi-joon now opening up more to Jung-ah and realizing his part in driving his wife away, it looks like they’re leaving room for a reconciliation later, after they’ve both healed. Shi-joon even says he’ll go down to visit her on the weekend.

Min-woo performs another show, after which he checks his phone and tries to contain his disappointment that Kae-hwa hasn’t called. To his (happy) surprise, Kae-hwa finds him sitting in the empty theater, here with a much more conciliatory attitude than the last time they saw each other.

As we know, important conversations must always relocate to prettier environs (can you imagine that car ride over to the waterside? Most awkward silence ever).

Kae-hwa apologizes for her harsh words, telling Min-woo that she didn’t mean it when she pushed him away. She asks for his understanding and also thanks him for thinking of her life and her future (i.e., in his proposal) in such a serious way.

Min-woo has been looking pensive and tense throughout her speech, like he’s bracing himself, sensing that she’s ready to deliver her final decision. So it takes a moment for her next words to really sink in, as she tells him:”So I’m thinking of being courageous now. Thanks to you, I think I can do that now.”

She adds that she’d always thought she would just focus on being a solid support for Min-ji’s benefit, “But if things get hard, it’s okay if lean on someone now.” Min-woo smiles and steps forward to hug her gently, thanking her for her answer. Kae-hwa thanks him back for letting her be courageous again.

Min-woo then thanks her for watching over him and Ye-eun all this while. He promises that from now on, he’ll protect her.

And then they get the swirly-camera kiss — which is a nice way to bookend the drama, considering that this is very similar to how we started. Only, now it actually means something.

The end!

COMMENTS

I picked up Oh My Lady because (1) when it started I had the time, as none of the current Wednesday-Thursday shows had premiered yet and I had no other recap commitments, (2) I had just finished its timeslot predecessor Wish Upon a Star, which was a happy surprise, and therefore anticipated a similar tone for this one, and (3) I wanted to keep up the watching and recapping momentum. There’s also (4) the matter of loving Chae Rim (and wanting her to pick a more enjoyable project than her last, Good Job, Good Job) and (5) the fact that I had pegged Choi Siwon as an idol-star-turned-actor to watch out for after Story of Hyang Dan back in ’07. (See? There IS some thought that goes into these decisions, however random the choices may ultimately seem!)

About halfway through the drama, however, I found my interest flagging, but not enough to drop the show. Even the less interesting episodes were easy to watch, and it wasn’t a challenging show in either theme or plot, so keeping up wasn’t too much of a hardship. I did, however, start thinking that if the actual plot development got any SLOWER, I would seriously consider dropping it.

Ultimately I’m glad I stuck with the show, and the last four episodes in particular gave me a sense of satisfaction about the drama as a whole. It turned into a different drama than the one it originally seemed — which pointed at the hijinks of a star falling for his ajumma maid/manager — and focused much more on Min-woo’s development as a father than as a romantic partner. I don’t think the romance came out of nowhere, but it wasn’t a priority, and that was actually refreshing.

I won’t call Choi Siwon a brilliant actor — he’s pretty decent, but he’s still got a long way to go if he’s going to keep pursuing an acting career, and I think he should — so rather than pure acting skills, it’s his personal charm that carries the character. I mean, just look at that smile, right?

It doesn’t hurt that he’s perfectly cast — image isn’t everything, but it’s a pretty significant part of how we approach a character. And when you cast a star to play a star, you’ve always got that benefit of the audience’s meta awareness of the actor’s real-life fame. (Also see: Choi Ji-woo in A Star’s Lover, Rain in Full House, Jang Geun-seok in You’re Beautiful, Kim Ah-joong in Accidental Couple.)

It was a leetle disappointing to have so little screentime for the two girls in the last episode, but we’ve seen enough of the Cute in previous episodes that I was content to let this finale be Min-woo and Kae-hwa’s exclusively. (Well, there were a few Shi-joon and Jung-ah moments, but I choose to skip right over them in my mind. Yawn. I’m satisfied, story-wise, with where they ended, but don’t need to dwell any longer on them.)

And then there’s Chae Rim. To be honest, I don’t think this is the best vehicle for her, even though the drama really benefits from having her in it. Therefore I’m glad for the drama’s sake, but she’s an actress whose talents weren’t fully used here — particularly since her character was less developed than Min-woo’s, and hardly changed at all. She made the most of it, tapping into a vulnerable side of Kae-hwa that gave the character a hint of depth. But I hope to see her tackling something more challenging in the future, and something out of the ajumma mold, as she’s done two in a row.

All in all, Oh My Lady was a sweet, cute series that could be a fun way to spend a breezy weekend with some unchallenging but personable characters, and that will leave you smiling at the end.

Uh oh, I guess the next one will be clincher. Dare I write my very long comment next? Sure, let's go for it...

I haven't written in a while (for me), and it's so great to see all your wonderful, insightful, hilarious, informative, loving comments.

@menci and @amy - Welcome to the OMLhood/haven! (an oxymoron?) So glad to have you. My comrades are oh so correct about not curing the OML addiction here. Reminds of the song that goes "if loving you is wrong, I don't wanna be right."
Menci, thanks for your kinds words. You will enjoy it here, I'm sure of it. And Amy, aloha ahiahi! You local?

@doraemon - Thanks for tweeting CSW for us. It's worth a try. I think if he came and checked us out, he'd be tickled pink. And as for the Bonamana SW, I didn't think about it, but you're right about the familiarity because he had to keep his hairstyle for the show (although his ponytail/samurai-ish hairstyle in the Japan Premium 2009 Sorry, Sorry performance was...hmm....sigh. Mr. Ab Flasher!)

@sobia - Wow, thanks a lot for that explanation of bromance. I get it now. I like that a lot, that guys can be close and show closeness without going beyond. I also enjoyed your added observations of the clothing and meaning behind them for KH and MW. And add me to the list of those amazed by SW - the man seems to have it all, including humility. We are allowed a bit of shallowness, superficiality, whatever you wanna call it...He is handsome, that's a fact. We're giving credit where credit is due, right?

@Mel - About MW being a simple male, I agree. He's not a complicated character with lots of hidden skeletons in his closet. He's not the quiet "can't be bothered," ultra-serious, hardly-crack-a-smile type. His expressions are part of what makes him lovable.

LOL at him MW being a peacock in all his glory struttin' his stuff. I loved reading all your "evidence", as well as those presented by others regarding this scene. Great observations, and they made me understand it even better.

Thanks for the SW links. For this and many other info-hungry fans, this is a treat. Same with you, Ace! Amazing research! And so recent! Only 3-digit views on YT.

@Ace - Thanks for the info on bromancy SW. It's nice to see him so loving to his brothers.

And re: the Men's Health mag. pics....you had to go and do that! Goodness gracious....

And his ideal girl is a Christian, wavy-haired, and nice abs? Well, 2 outta 3 ain't bad. I mean I have abs, they're just temporarity misplaced...haha. But you know? His diligence in keeping fit makes me want to do so. There's that life-changing thing happening...

Love ya!

WAAA... 300 and beyond ALREADY???!!! I just couldn't resist, oh @ Kappy--love ya right back!!! Yup--umm, Christian, wavy hair (almost) and yup, I've got abs too, but like you they too are also misplaced I wish it was temporarily misplaced!!! 'gotta love you!!!... if your "if loving you is right, I don't want to be wrong...." hey, that was in my high school days---old school!! Yup, we're dating ourselves here...

It's such a blast to have everyone just get on this rant/rave wagon... What awesomely humorous characters we have here... what else can we do but love it here!!! ... true oxymoron OMLhaven-hood!!! Yes Kappy, kinda like manic-depressive sorta place!!!

YEY, CONGRATULATIONS TO THE ANGELS IT'S 300... AND REALLY BEYOND!!!

Hi, everyone. This OMLhood is a winner; and O!ML, am I glad I'm here. Although I've been forewarned, I'm staying, never mind if my OML addiction has become an OML-cum-OMLhood addiction. The ChoiSiWon-cum-Suju addiction has not kicked in yet, but with all the links you wonderful people are providing sooner or later I'll get there. Can't wait. LOL.

@ kappy, @ mel. Seems like there is no cap to posting here. The last recap on Coffee Prince has 320 posts as of today and still increasing since the last posts were dated 6/22. Which means we, too, can keep going.

@ Sobia. Perhaps you should copyright your definition of bromance. Has a term for the female counterpart been coined? Btw, on your observation regarding mentoring in the Shijoon-Minwoo relationship ("I always appreciate the scenes between Shijoon and Minwoo...I really wanted to see Shijoon teach Minwoo a thing or two and impart his wisdom.")...

My take is Shijoon came out the wiser. Without intending to, Minwoo taught his hyung the basics in love and relationship. A case in point: In the scene where Minwoo hugged and comforted Gae Hwa when she despaired of possibly not finding Ye Eun. We could see realization written all over Shijoon's case. My bet is that he saw not so much a man in love with a woman. Rather he saw a man, a father who lost his daughter, who pushed aside his own fears and pain to comfort and assuage the fears and pain of the woman he loved. In the next scene you see Shijoon holding a glass of wine, alone, in deep thought. I bet he was thinking of his wife's pain when she lost their child, of how he failed to hold her and tell her it was all right because he was too self absorbed in his own guilt and pain.

Btw I'll never forget Minwoo helping Gae Hwa on her feet, holding her close, lovingly touching her hair, soothing her with "It is all right..." O!ML, I'm really in love with this man!

@kappy I used to live there in Honolulu and also Aiea back of Sack -N- Save and K- Mart near the Aloha Stadium. I 'd work for DFS of Hawaii in accounting. I still call Hawaii is my home. But now I live here Virginia Beach. Before OML I didn't know about SUJU or CSW and now I'm like Mel and Ace looking for website were I can watch or have info about CSW. I' really love Chae Rim she is one of my fave Korean actress espicially ALL ABOUT EVE I really love her and also other dramas that she is in. I thank you all for the warm welcome. Hugs and kisses to all. I really enjoyed all the comments and good observations that I miss in watching it. I have to go back and rewatch them again. Have a Blessed day and thanks a million to all.

@MEL....you were the very first one to comment on JANG DONG GUN's plans for a drama come back,,,wow, you must be a big fan!
He's my first ever favorite Korean actor! ALL ABOUT EVE was the first kdrama I fell in love with, and of course, CHAE RIM has always been on top of my favorite korean actress since then. I still wish they could make a film or drama together.

@MEL and @ACE...i'm quite amazed with the effort and energy you put into OML/SW links! Do you guys even sleep? truly amazing!

@305 MENCI...great observation on SJ learning from MW when it comes to love and relationships.

EVERYONE!!!! we're beyond 300...congratulations!

Hi all, I've just sent CSW another tweet to inform him that we've over 300 comments here and posted the link again. Let's pray he'll just quietly 'dropped' by:)
Someone taught me this : " if I can't convince by reasoning, I shall do so by repetition !"; so I'm just going to continue to tweet CSW on our heaven here.....:)

First of all hello everyone.......... I get really excited when I get here, good morning to my extended family in the OMLhaven-hood.... so I key in what ever pops up in my mind that there are so many typ-os on my posts I APOLOGIZE ... when I go back to read my posts it's ooppps another boo-boo, again sorry, sorry, sorry...

@ 311 koreanpsyche, with the help of my other kimchi sisters, I get a lot of kpop info--it's not just me. I actually sleep but took some time off to move to a new place and this is my haven--from the thinking what to get rid of and keep... it's quite a headache, so, to get away even for just a minute--like yesterday -- I came and re-visited the OMLhaven-hood frequently, that I even got the first post for JANG DONG GUN'S possible new drama, yes I'm a huge JDG fan too. He seemed so ethereal in AAE. I mean I could go on and on about him and AAE, just like my addiction to OML, let's not go there. We'd need another blogsite just for AAE, JDG and of course CR ... It would be nice to have them get back on a drama. I remember when he got married in May, someone here asked if Chae Rim attended but I don't know if we ever got an answer. It was during the filming of OML and I also remember Chae Rim stating that during the filming of AAE, she hung around the younger cast members as JDG was older and stayed by himself..... remember I -mailed JB regarding recapping classic (older) kdramas. If she did, we'd all be on the rant and rave there too.... so definitely no sleep because there are so many classic (doesn't matter if they're bad or good), I'd be on it too just like here in the OMLhave-hood.

I just feel so childish at times fangurling--lot of giggling and squealing for our OML, Kcelebrities, CSW, SU JU, and other kpop stars but it's so much fun trying to get away from the stress of the move. I'm already familiar with the the family members here as well as different sites for SU JU, Chae Rim (been quite a fan since Oh! Pil Sung, she was a hot head and many times quite enchanting and youthful without make up, if only those who watched OML could see how beautiful CR really was and is, to me she'll always be gorgeous--such a great actress.) I hope many will take the time to see that drama. I believe my husband fell in love with her watching OPSBSY... As for taking some time off, I usually work nights (don't worry I don't neglect my work, am quite a hard worker) and so the handy dandy cell phone provides me many opportunities to browse the internet... I've always been a night person and now with age comes less sleep--pretty bad case of insomnia and I have time to surf the net but I got beat by our @ ace... Her research brings out some pretty amazing information...

@menci, thanks for the observation about SJ being influenced by MW. They were initially antagonistic towards each other but later became silent comrades--quiet once. It's good that MW had no difficulty in calling SJ when he had problems in the later episodes. They are exact opposites of each other but also learned from each other's mistake. I'm glad that MW was mature enough to eventually take SJ's many advices. SJ quietly incorporated MW's openness into his own as demonstrated in ep 6 when his spouse moved. SJ asked his wife to call him when she arrived and that he SJ will visit that coming weekend.

@menci again.... It looks like will top Coffee Prince's 320 posts quite easily, it's not 400 and beyond!!!! Good day OML Angels....

Greetings, my OMLhaven-hood friends --

It warms my heart that we are rolling along with these comments. Keep 'em comin'! We'll soon be leaving Coffee House in the dust. Not that this is a competition or anything...

@Amy - Howzit! Hey, I was in the mainland (in the gambling mecca of the world) for a long time before returning to my island home. Though it's very expensive here (remember?), every day I'm feeling the saying (and more so than before) that "Lucky you live Hawaii." You can take the girl out of Hawaii, but you can't take Hawaii out of the girl.

@Menci -Really enjoyed your observation about SJ learning from MW. He's come a ways from when he felt like punching MW for offering to help fund the musical. (I know he did punch MW later for the stuff KH had to go through because of him). It was explained why KH reacted the way she did, initially not seeing MW's action as a gesture of goodwill but rather his flaunting his money. But I wondered why such offense was taken by SJ. Apparently, he still saw MW as the immature high school teenager he once called (in indirect Chinese translation terms) "the face and voice of filth/sewage."

Random thought --

Just recently watched ep 1, and the scene when Manager J. and MW are being driven home from MW's fanmeeting,

MW says to Man. J. "Why don't you pick another book instead of one whose author's name I can hardly pronounce." Man. J. asks in response, "Do you want to learn another book's plot?" Then Man. J. mentions about a sageuk drama he thinks would be good for MW, then summarizes it. MW says he's wrong about his historical facts, Man. J. wants to brush it off feeling he's right, but chauffeur/gopher guy (sorry, forgot his name) says MW is right. Now, I guess the chauffeur could be wrong, too, but it seems more like he and MW were right.

This exchange had me thinking that it was put there to establish that MW was no dummy, just lazy and such the puppet of Manager J., the puppeteer.

@3 kappy – re the Men’s Health mag pics: was in one of my shallow moods, and since I open my Facebook account first, I’d like to at least see some eye candy right away to remove some stress! I changed it already to my own pic, don’t worry!

Just to share, my first ever crush in a k-drama was Joon Ji-hoon as Prince Lee Shin in Princess Hours. I printed off pictures of him and inserted it in my training manuals as “inspiration”. Then came Lee Dong-wook as Gong Chan in My Girl, Rain as Young Jae in Full House, Lee Min-ho as Jun-pyo in BOF, Jang Geun-suk as Tae-kyung in You’re Beautiful, and Yamashita Tomohisa as Naoki in j-drama Buzzer Beat. =)

About Siwon, I noticed him in Super Junior’s “Sorry, Sorry” MV since he could really carry that white suit so beautifully, but despite that I was a bit ambivalent about the whole boy band thing. Honestly, I really liked the video, the choreography, and the song’s really catchy, but there’s just too many of them and I didn’t feel like exerting the effort to get to know each of them (I’m about 90% successful in identifying each member now!). And as for Siwon, in looks among SuJu he really did stand out for me, but I was also thinking “just another pretty face” the whole time. =) When JB first started posting the OML news, I was only interested because of Chae rim. I’ve heard lots of good things about her from one of my co-workers who absolutely adored CR’s character in Dalja’s Spring, so much so that she started to imitate Dalja’s style down to the dark nail polish (except for Dalja’s hair of course!). So anyway, what made me take notice of Siwon on OML, was how his character Min-woo acted so badly on the shooting scenes in the first scene of episode 1. I liked the fact that I was snorting, giggling, and cringing about his character all at once. He was playing this star who didn’t know how to act --- so perfectly! That really impressed me because it was so believable. Anyone who can do a cringe-worthy scene like that with a straight face is someone worth watching. Makes me wonder about the NGs and if ever they would show those in the original DVDs.

Re: abs - mine is ok (it’s flat), but I need to do some abs exercises for toning and definition. =)

@Menci – we’ll pass the Coffee Prince posts in no time!

@Mel – would love to meet your kimchi friends as well. It’s a date @ SS3!

@koreanpysche – I usually get 6-8 hours of sleep so don’t worry! I do some browsing @ work on some non-restricted sites when there’s not much to do (usually it's Hancinema.com), get off work at exactly 4:30pm CST, get home at around 5:20 to 6:00pm depending on the traffic, then open the computer first thing. I usually eat my dinner while reading my personal mails, chat with friends on FB, watch some k-drama, listen to k-pop, surf the net, and hang around on this site to see new posts from all of you. I’m not purposely researching, just think of it as serendipity!

Speaking of sites, I just remembered something. Do you guys know Charice Pempengco? She’s this young Filipino singer who rose to fame through YouTube, and many people still attributes her current popularity to Oprah. The truth is, it was Ellen DeGeneres who first invited her on her show and introduced her to the rest of the world, not Oprah. Anyway, that video was of Charice singing Dreamgirls' theme “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” in the S. Korean talent show Star King. And guess who were on that same show listening to the contestants? Yup! It’s Super Junior as guest judges who were very impressed with Charice. Kyuhyun even sang “A Whole New World” with her (some SuJu members were crying during the duet because it was the first time Kyuhyun performed after his April ’07 car accident).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6e-6MdoamHI

@doraemon – I hope your tweet pays off! I'm really shy posting something there.=) Imagine if Siwon really did “drop by” here…

That's all for today...Have a great night everyone! Sweet dreams! See you all tomorrow!

Hello to all!

@ Amy, @ Koreanpsyche, @ Mel, I have a friend who has "no time" to watch OML because she's watching, for the 4th time I think, AAE. I have not watched it myself. (No time, I'm still re-watching OML. lol) Is AAE as addicting as OML? Because if it is I have to stay away ;-)

@ Mel, yes, isn't it nice that MW and SJ developed a deep respect for each other? I can see SJ standing as a principal sponsor in MW 's and KH's wedding.

@ Kappy, I think KH knew in her heart that MW sincerely wanted to help. What she did not know was that MW only wanted to make her happy by helping her keep the job she's proud of. SJ's reaction, I think, is typical among us, Asians. Or perhaps it's true in other culture? You have to allow us to save face by not treating us like a charity case

Time to get my z's. Goodnight fellow angels!

@ace - Eye candy is key to removing stress, and what better than the handsome and very buff Siwon? Just like that Jim Carrey character says in that mask movie, SW is SMOKIN'!

Enjoyed reading about your kdrama crushes (I liked the same ones including Hyun Bin in My Lovely Sam Soon) and how you came to know about and be interested in Siwon. We all seem to go the same thought processes, and then you can't get enough information about them. Then, eventually, it dies down for one and another one takes over. At least that's how it seems to happen for me.

I sure hope we get some NGs (I know what this is, but what do the letters stand for?) on the DVD. That would be great!

And as for that Charice girl, Hello! She is amazing! What a voice, and at such a young age. And the stage presence of a seasoned entertainer. Thanks for sharing that YT video with us, esp. since Suju was there. Laughed at some of the comments (her singing causing a "disturbance" amongst the judges, Leeteuk being the "friendly waterboy," "all your hairs standing", etc.).

@menci - You're right about KH's reaction to MW's offer to help pay for the musical. And thanks for explaining about why SJ was so offended. I honestly forgot about the save face thing - not wanting to be a charity case. I'm aware of it, but it just didn't come to my mind as the reason for his reaction. See? That's what I love about this OMLhaven-hood...it's such an education! Truly..

And sounds like you and your friend are even-Steven when it comes to the no-time thing. Funny..

@wendy - Welcome! Glad you enjoy this OML and this site as we do. I do hope it does well in Taiwan, too, and wish them much success.

mornin OML Angels....welcome Wendy, No doubt OML will do well in Taiwan and Chae Rim's Soompi forum had discussions about OML maybe being shown tin Japan soon, YEY!!! OML to the world and beyond..!

Charice apparently has a recurring role as an exchange student in GLEE.. I'll check that out. Good luck to such a talented kid!

@Menci you'll LOVE AAE, if you're close by Id lend you my DVD. It's not light like OML it's got it's own charm-- one that will also hold it's own in the fans' hearts AND if you don't know Jang Dong Gun, get ready to fall in crush/LOVE with another great character/actor.... This is why I have a wish for a Dramabeans recap section on classic Kdrama. It would be great to see JB's take on so many wonderful classic Kdramas. If that were possible, I'd be on there busily posting just like I do here... Of course our JB has got her hands full, luckily she now has Girl Fiday to help her...

Have a great day all in the OMLhood...

Good day everyone in the OMLhaven

Is SuJu M the same as SuJu? Oh, hi, guys! I've just watched the music video Blue Tomorrow (I love it; now it's in my favorite list) and I'm puzzled by the M after SuJu.

I better post this asap so I'll hear from you sooner ;-) Meantime let me get back to utube as I still have some SuJu/SuJu M's (?) music videos to watch.

See you later!

Ah, I love Super Junior M. It is a sub-group of SuJu that performs in Mandarin. Because there are fewer members in SuJu M, Siwon has a bigger role in variety shows and videos as part of that group compared to the larger Super Junior. It's leader was Han geng, who is the only Chinese member of Suju, but he has been in litigation since late last year to end his contract with their management, so it is not clear who the leader will be now... I really like the song Super Girl; Siwon looks super-duper hot in the video...

Hi Haveneers/Hoodies/Angels...

@ace - "No Other" sounds cool. Monday is the unleashing, right?

One question: How often do they repackage albums? Mainly a marketing scheme? (sorry, that was two questions)

@Menci - Suju M is (was?) a subgroup of Suju comprised of 7 members including two "new" Chinese members (Hankyul/Hangeng was in it already as part of the main Suju) that sing in Chinese - Mandarin, I think - which I'm guessing is what the M stands for. Our Siwon is one of them, as you may have noticed, thus his knowledge of Mandarin. Did you discover their version of U? Love that one! So well done. With the lawsuit going on with Hangeng, I don't know what's up with Suju M. I read recently Hangeng is doing a solo concert in Beijing this summer. I'm glad for him, but miss him in the group.

Hi Menci... has OML really made you a big fan of Super Junior? Okey, now get ready to get confused.....Super Junior has many 4 sub groups apart from the original 13 members. The first sub group was KRY comprising of Kyu Hyun, Ryeo Wook and Yesung (KRY stands for the first letter of these three boys)--who have sung some of the best ballads ever (of course per English Subs through YOU TUBE), then came Super Junior T (Trot-a Korean music genre) which included Lee Teuk, Hee Chul, Kang In, Shin Dong, Sung Min, Eun Hyuk, then came Super Junior M (Mandarin for the Chinese focused sub group) that included Hang Geng (original member from mainland China), Siwon, Dong Hae, Ryeo Wook, Kyu Hyun and added Henry (from Canada) and Zou Mi (from mainland China), so while Super Junior M members were working in China then Super Junior Happy was formed with Lee Teuk, Kang In, Shin Dong, Sung Min, Eun Hyuk and of course Yesung.... so have I confused you? This took me a long time to remember but when you start liking their music, you will be able to identify the voices with your eyes closed. Truly Su Ju have some of the best songs, Don't Don is one of the best dance videos ever. Enjoy yourself while discovering their music. And I also love Blue Tomorrow---check out their other ballads... Oh, yeah another one I like is Mirror... Enjoy their music.

Back to OML, I was rewatching ep 13... SMW is so lovable in his cluelessness regarding his feelings for KH. He has scenes with YR which YR basically finds ways to meet up with MW. MW just is not into YR. Right after the meetings with YR, MW ends up with KH at the office when he hears reporter HAN seemingly attacking KH (he is). The next is when YR gets MW to the fruit-drink shop. All you need is for MW to yawn as he just doesn't want to bother being with YR. After each meeting with YR, MW is so eager to be with KH. Of course these have been discussed here, over and over again... The funniest is when MW brings the items KH has requested to the new KH, YE and MJ home. That Choi Si Won's handsome face can be so goofily amusing. MW's jealousy is so blatant upon arriving at the new home to find SJ sitting on the floor, eating cake with his (MW's) brood!!! (how dare SJ do this!!!.) He signals for YE to come to him--pronto. And Si Won is sooo comical to have that humongous "bib" and the toothpick between his teeth demanding something to drink from KH!!! Just one of the most amusing scenes ever especially after MJ gives him the eye---so ego deflating!!!

Okey, good night all in the OML hood-haven...

Hi again, friends! Be forewarned--this rave will really be a long one.

@ Wendy. I'm glad you've come out to the open. Welcome! Now there are 3 of us newcomers: I'm relatively new, as is Amy. ( Hi, Amy!)

@ Kappy. Good news, my AAE-addicted friend watched OML today. Watched the 1st epi out of curiosity, she said, and ended up glued to her laptop, just taking short breaks for a quick meal and quicker trip to the bathroom. She was sorry to log off after episode 11 because she had to watch (underlined) Tayong Dalawa, a Fdrama that's currently airing and has a huge fanbase among Filipinos.

@ Kappy. Re OML addiction... If loving you is wrong I don't wanna be right. Exactly. Thanks for this quote.

@ Ace. SW in Men's Health mag...bad for my health, very! but more! More! More!

@ Kappy, @ Mel, @ Ace. The OML raves have surpassed Coffee Prince's. :Let's have the MW/OML handshake now! @ Doraemon. Time to tweet CSW again with a higher count. ;-)

@ Mel. My friend, the one who had not time for OML but is now, I suspect, on her way to addiction, will surely love you. A blogsite for Jang Dong Gun, Chae Rim, All About Eve? She will dump me for you as her BFF.

And, Mel, I agree with you about the whydon'tyoupickanotherbook scene. That established MinWoo as no dummy. I think the whole scene also showed how supportive the gofer was. Sympathetic even. All the scenes involving the gofer suggested that he liked MinWoo as a person, not for what he would gain by association. Of the minor characters I like him and the male employee at The Show the best.

@ Ace, again. SW was really hilarious as MinWoo the bad actor. His acting scene in epi.1 and his first session with tha drama coach were LMAO moments.

And thanks for the link to Charice in Star King with KyuHyun (spelling right) and the rest of SuJu. I'm glad you mentioned Ellen D's role in bringing Charice to the attention of the world. I was a bit disappointed in her short memory, but to borrow MW's words (on KH liking or being a fan of another actor), "I want to forgive her anyway."

Re my friend again, she's way ahead now. She's addicted to AAE, or that actor JDG for all I know ;-l), and now OML. She's sicker, LOL!

Time to go to bed. Four hours, that's all I have for sleep tonight. Be good!

Good morning, Oh My Lady peeps! I apologize in advance for the extreme length of this post (sorry, sorry , sorry, sorry…):

@ 287 Amy: I totally agree with you, that Siwon seems so well-grounded for someone who has been so fortunate. It’s admirable.

@ 289 Sajor: So your comment got me thinking about how Fanny Price and Kae-hwa compare, and I have to agree with you that there are a lot of similarities…I haven’t read Mansfield Park in a long time, but I do remember Fanny’s saintliness and how she stands out among the other people in the novel (like the Crawfords) because she is so simple and genuine, while the bad people are so smooth and insincere. Kae-hwa, too, stands out in Minwoo’s world because of her integrity, especially when compared to Yoon-seuk and Yura.

And, as you point out, being saintly good is not always a good thing for either woman, although the difficulties that Fanny and Kae-hwa face because of their goodness is different…Fannie’s problems come from the outside, through characters who make her life difficult, while Kae-hwa’s problem is internal, a way of thinking about herself that is preventing her from blooming. For Fanny, being “too good” means she has to endure her relatives’ mistreatment; displease them by not accepting the proposal of that attractive baddie Henry Crawford; and patiently wait until her beloved Edmund realizes that Mary Crawford is no good. For Kae-hwa, though, being “too good” means she has become so devoted to Minji, that she has forgotten herself – entirely stopped thinking of herself as a woman and given herself over to being Minji’s nurturer and protector. I can see why Kae-hwa has gone this route, especially since it seems like her ex-husband only reinforced the idea that she was not a desirable woman, but like Minwoo points, what is she going to do when Minji grows up and moves out? While I love Kae-hwa for being such an awesome mom, I also want her to be as happy as she can be, and it doesn’t seem that she can do that if she only thinks of herself as Minji’s mom. The last episode allows Kae-hwa to move past this limited view of herself because Minwoo’s proposal shows her that she is worthy of love, not just as a mother but as a woman, and Byung-hak’s apology, I think, helps heal the wounds that the ugly end of her marriage inflicted on her self-image.

It’s interesting that, unlike with Minwoo, whose motivations and development are so well-documented throughout the show, we don’t fully understand Kae-hwa up until the last episode, when her reaction to Minwoo’s proposal reveals the difficulty she is experiencing in moving forward from her first marriage and seeing herself as more than just a mother. But I actually like the fact that Kae-hwa’s character develops this way, because it drives home the fact that there is more to the nice ahjumma than there appears; even though she is depicted as almost a perfect person – honest, compassionate, and brave-- Kae-hwa is complicated in her own right, in that she still has issues of her own to work out before she can find move on from her earlier marriage. I love that her character has this surprising richness to her.

You know, with all the booklovers in here, I think we really should think about forming some sort of a book club, maybe one where we have to compare every novel we read with OML? … I would enjoy this, and I have a feeling I am not the only one…

@ 296 Ace: Your post made me realize how much I have turned into a rabid fangirl, because reading all about Siwon’s super-affectionate, hug-loving ways totally makes me want to pull a Go Minam and infiltrate Super Junior somehow ;-)... I can’t believe his bandmates are so unappreciative of all those Siwonnie hugs at their disposal… such lucky boys, and they’re so thankless... But thank you for all that info; Siwon comes across as quite an adorable person.

@ 305 Menci: I really enjoyed your analysis of how Minwoo’s relationship with Kae-hwa affected Shijoon, it gave me a much better understanding of those scenes in Episode 15…. And yes, it’s really hard not to love Minwoo sometimes. I was re-watching Episode 12 recently, and it made me realize how alone Kae-hwa was when he comes to provide her with moral support in the all-night sauna. This is after she has directed Shijoon to drop her off at the sauna so he can go back to work; her beloved Minji has gotten mad at her (even hung up on her) because Kae-hwa was unable to attend the event at school; and Boknim has not yet arrived with the girls, so Kae-hwa is probably still anxious for Ye-eun’s safety …she literally has no one, and she must be pretty scared and shaken up by the day’s events. And then Minwoo shows up to offer her his expertise on handling scandals, and it is touching to see him for once being the knowledgeable, experienced one as he tries to comfort her. It just goes to show that when Kae-hwa really needs someone, Minwoo is there … And you know what? There is a female counterpart to “bromance”—“womance”! Made me laugh because it sounds like Barbara Walters mispronouncing the word “romance.”

@312 Doraemon: Thank you for sending Siwon those tweets; I hope your persistence pays off. ” If I can’t convince by reasoning, I shall do so by repetition !” – I like this, I think it’s true.

@ 313 Mel: Re: feeling childish because of the fangirling, I can get really embarrassed about my fangirling of OML/CSW. But don’t you think Kae-hwa’s friend Boknim is a great example to us? She is a total Minwoo fangirl, but at the same time a successful professional, a great dresser, an affectionate wife (at least over the one phone call we see with her husband), and a devoted friend who always put her loyalty to Kae-hwa first, even when that meant crossing her idol Minwoo (like in Episode 12, when Boknim tells Kae-hwa that, rather than quit the Show, she should demand Minwoo take responsibility for the scandal). Also, I read this quote from C. S. Lewis a few days ago that made me feel better about being a fangirl of an advanced age: “When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.” So, despite being a good ten years older than the average E.L.F., I will embrace my inner fan girl, because we all need things in our life that keep us young. And if they are adding to our life, and not detracting, what’s the harm?

@ 317 Wendy: I am hoping that OML will be a big success in Taiwan, and that many more OML addicts will be created.

@ 327 Mel: Yes, I feel if I had to take a quiz on Super Junior right now, I would pass with flying colors. I’ve been cramming ever since OML ended. ;-)

Have a good morning, everybody in the OML hood!

Good morning all in the OMLhaven-hood... I wrote a really long post and lo and behold pressed the wrong key and it all went kapoot!! I was so touched by @ 330, 331 Sobia, it's amazing how the written word can convey so much in ones mind. Like you I'm now rabid but what's worse description than a rabid--any fan girl... ( your post really cracked me up). And like I said very touching, I agree with @332 Sajor the insights were amazing regarding the book characters as well as our OML kdrama characters. No matter how out of tangent we get beyond OML, we always come back and remember the many scenes that have touched us. It doesn't matter that many scenes have already been commented or dissected by others and even oneself, it's still refreshing to remember.

Between Ace and I, you'd think we could be the archive for SU JU...we're not really, but just like @ 311 Koreanpsyche said we have the time (we'll find it if need be) and energy to dedicate ourselves to SU JU and of course our beloved OML!!! I As for me of course have my kimchi sisters who give me information on SU JU and KPOP!! So come all who'd like to join me and Ace to SS3. (By the way Ace, we've got to come up with an exam about SU JU... just kidding...) It'll be really enjoyable to really watch SS3!! Here are 2 SU JU members Eunhyuk (left) and Leeteuk-leader (right) guesting on Happy Together:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbmSYRLyjCc&feature=channel

....here's part 1 of non subbed Win Win with "youngidols.." Siwon seemed really comfortable, some other sites say he was uncomfortable and had little fans. I felt that although there are no subs, Siwon seemed comfortable and funny--his body language seemed he was quite open and he demonstrated his quick wit... I loved the open toed sandals he wore. There are seven parts but no eng sub, so for those who want to watch.... just guess what they are saying, I'm just fangurling for Siwon!!! I'm waiting for the English subs, soon I hope.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KboEEMh0Z4o&feature=related

Another site also showed the initial photos of Athene, Siwon is smokin!!! The pictures are in the Choi Si Won Soompi Forums, gotta be a member: Apparently the filming has started and sources are saying Si Won is in Italy filming already. I hope this drama does well. Iris wasn't doing well in Japan when it was first shown. I don't know now.... Siwon fighting!!

Sooooo, have a great weekend all in the OMLhaven-hood

JB has the Athena photoshoot so no need to go to Soompi.... Siwon looks gorgeous.. By the way has any of you checked out the Dramabeans Giveaway: Tell us your drama addiction stories. Some are so hilarious, our 300+ posts may get easily beat... I daresay some of those Kaddicts are worst than us. I'll have a blast trying to read all the posts there. It's gonna be hard to find the winner.....

Enjoy all... again, have a great weekend wherever you are in the OMLhaven-hood.

@ 32 Sajor: Thank you for your kind words! Really, I started thinking about Kae-hwa this way because of your thoughts on Fanny, and Kappy's observation on Kae-hwa's prison stripes, and on and on... I think too much about this show, but it seems like I am in good company here, because everyone is thinking up a storm about the show in the OML hood. I am really proud of all of us and of this epic discussion we are having about all things OML-related...And since we all are so gifted at connecting everything to OML, I have a feeling we will be talking about this show for a long time...(I can just see it: "Comment #10,090,560: How OML relates to Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity, part 2...")

@ 33 Mel: I really appreciate the SuJu archive that you and Ace have going here-- please keep it coming! It was nice to watch the Win Win interview and see our Siwon in action; I've read the articles that discuss the interview, and it seems like he had a lot of cute stories to share (like dancing by the Han River-- kekeke), so I can't wait for the subs. And yes, Siwon's Athena photo = awesome. I am getting so excited about that show, even though action-oriented dramas are usually not my thing...

Have a great weekend, OML angels!

Wow! Has this thread grown quickly! Thanks to the valuable contributions from new members and fellow OML addicts.

Who would have thought that this little drama that received some criticism for not being original and was full of k-drama cliches, would be compared to classic romantic novels? I, for one, love it. Everyone's contributions are read and much appreciated.

One can't separate Choi Siwon from Super Junior. He recently stated on Win Win that without SJ there wouldn't be Choi Siwon.

At first, I was convinced that I would never learn the names of all 13 (+ 2: Zhoumi and Henry Lau) Su Ju members. But it's impossible to forget them once you've seen them all over K-TVland (on music, reality and variety shows, dramas, movies, sitcoms, MVs)

@ Mel

Thank you for the links to the Happy Together cuts. Leeteuk and Eunhyuk were hilarious. Their Teukikayo segment on Strong Heart is the highlight of that show.

Here's a link to a fan made video of some of the most memorable scenes on OML. Enjoy and have a fun and relaxing weekend!

Hello OMLhoods! I've been away for a few days and can't believe we're past 300 already. I haven't finished reading everyone's comment but would like to say @Menci, I love your insight on how Shijoon and SMW learn love and wisdom from each other. I didn't think much about the scene when Shijoon was drinking wine and in deep thought after seeing SMW comforting KH at the shopping mall. After reading your take on it, it actually makes a lot of sense now.

@Ace & @Mel, you two are so resourceful. Thanks for all the links. Now back to reading the rest of the comments....

Wow! I left off at 322, now there's 16 more comments that I simply have to reply to most of it. Her goes a very long post:

@323 Menci – Yup, as they’ve all said, M stands for “Mandarin”.

“Before the official name of the subgroup was released, they were often referred to as Super Junior China. On April 3, 2008, SM Entertainment released the official name of the subgroup, Super Junior-M, with "M" representing the word "Mandarin," expressing the subgroup's ambition to become successful in the Chinese music market not limited to only China.[10] The "M" can also represent a list of other aspects, such as the first letter of their debut album, Me, and also "mi" (Chinese: 迷), which denotes to "charismatic" as well as "fan" in Mandarin, the latter meaning referring to their desire to connect closer with fans.”

Actually, I’m not really a fan (yet?) of Super Junior-M even if Siwon’s there. I actually prefer the Korean versions of their songs like Dangsinigie (At Least I Still Have You or At Least There’s Still You). The Korean language sounds sweeter to my ears compared to Mandarin (and to think that my grandfather is Chinese!) But I really like their videos, it’s so classy and Siwon always looks great in them. There’s a rumor that he’s going to be the new leader of SuJu-M since Han-geng has gone solo.

"Only 13"
There was a rumor back in 2007 that SM Entertainment was going to add Super Junior-M member Henry to the official group raising the members to 14. Both Chinese and Korean E.L.F.s opposed any addition to the original 13 and built a website called “Only 13”, discussing plans like taking legal action or boycotting the company’s products. But most fans agreed to do online petitions and to have a silent protest instead (400 ELFs sat in front of the SM building). Situations worsened when SM Entertainment announced through the media that they never stated SJ was a fixed group so thousands of fans wrote letters to the company pleading to keep the group permanent. With no answer, 1,000 more ELF members appeared in front of the SM building, singing various SJ songs and shouting “thirteen”. Then, after more rumors leaked that Zhou Mi will also be added to the group, fans decided to gain legal representation as part of the company’s stockholders. As of 3/20/2008, SuJu fans from all over the world purchased 58,206 stocks of SM entertainment, holding 0.3% of the company’s entire stock. They released a statement that they will obtain all chances to prevent SM Entertainment from adding new members and to keep Super Junior as only thirteen. >>>See? ELFs are scary. =)

@325 kappy – if you want to download “No Other” go to:
http://jenpoo.com/2120_no_other_by_super_junior.html
And here’s a link to the YT audio with English subs:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tApprFWbZp0&feature=player_embedded

Even though I like this follow-up track, I think Bonamana’s better. It’s more their sound (Super Junior funky) than this new track. And the best follow-up track for me is Noerago (It’s You).

I don’t know how often they repackage albums. I really think it’s a marketing scheme (mostly by SM Entertainment), but it’s working since fans are buying everything (I would too if I could afford it). For Hanteo’s Top Album Sales for the first half of 2010, SuJu came in at #1 for Bonamana. SNSD took the next 2 spots with Oh! and their 2nd repackage album. SuJu’s 4th repackage album came in at #4.

@328 Menci – SW in MH mag: removed his photo as my FB profile pic…but it’s now in my phone as wallpapers and screen savers!

Re: OML raves – yay! I just discovered/got curious about the “navigate” section of this site (upper left corner) the other day and found the comments there to be 400+ and counting. =)

Re: AAE – when I have more time in my hands, I would definitely watch this. I still haven’t finished Dalja’s Spring yet. =(

Re: MW’s bad acting scene – sometimes in k-dramas, there are really stupid/humiliating things that the lead character does, and you have no choice but to turn away or cover your eyes in embarrassment. It’s like a person you know deliberately making a scene, and your initial reaction would be to distance yourself from them. I’m giving an exception to MW and KH. Another favorite scene of mine on episode 1 would be KH unconsciously insulting MW:

KH: How is he (Kim Myung Min) in real life?
MW: How am I supposed to know that?
KH: That's true...Kim Myung Min is such a seasoned actor, he must only be close with other seasoned actors also. Isn't that right?
MW: What did you say?
KH: Don't actors hang out in their own crowds as well? Experienced actors with experienced actors and newbies with other newbies. Rather than an experienced actor, you're more of a pretty boy with the best body who's closer with the younger stars, right, Sung Min Woo?
MW: I'm close with Kang Ho Hyungnim as well. You know Song Kang Ho, the actor?
KH: Ohh, Song Kang Ho has such a good personality it seems he'd be willing to get close to anyone.

Still so funny!!!

@330, 331 Sobia – I’m actually an avid reader but the only Jane Austen book I‘ve read is P&P. I think I have Mansfield Park somewhere in the depths of my room, I don’t remember now if I did start reading it or not. So forgive me gang if I’m not commenting on your JA comments, but I am reading your insightful comparisons to OML and I do appreciate it! It made me re-read some of my favorite quotes from P&P and I’m looking for my DVD of the 2005 film with Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen to watch it again.
My favorite author is Nora Roberts. She has published almost or maybe over 200 books already, I’ve lost count! That includes all books written under her pseudonym, J.D. Robb. I have all her books, missing only 3 or 4 books that hasn’t yet been reprinted. I really like her J.D. Robb books, titled the “In Death” series. The lead characters, Eve & Roarke, are my favorite written fictional couple ever (thus I use their names for my twitter and e-mail IDs).

Re: LOL @ “…totally makes me want to pull a Go Minam and infiltrate Super Junior somehow”! Me too! Me too! The other SJ members said that at first Siwon’s “skinship” ways (that’s their Korean term for his overly affectionate manners) were okay, but maybe after 2 or 3 years they got sick of it! At least he’s not kissing them on the lips like Heechul!

Re: at our fangirling – imagine the opposite > middle aged men who like girl groups like Girls’ Generation, Wonder Girls, or Kara (In Korea, about 40% of these girls’ fans are men age 30 to 55). And their excuse for their obsessive fan ways is that those young girls “remind them of a sister or a female relative or a friend”. Yeah, right! They should be embarrassed! But what the heck! It’s music, so it should be universal and appealing to anyone no matter what age or race or background. But of course those girls are really pretty and sexy so who can blame them, right? Men will be men…I’m not embarrassed about my fangirling, and I enjoy being childish! Think of it as our stress reliever…but I’m thinking twice when I come across new information/facts about SW because it makes me feel like a stalker, really. I’d rather get to know him personally, hahaha! (half-kidding!)

@Mel – oh, no! about your deleted post. =(

Re: archive for SuJu – hehehe! Too much responsibility, I might not be able to live up to it. But don’t worry, I’ll continue to share all those interesting things that I seem to discover by accident. As for the SuJu exam…not yet, Mel, not yet…I still haven’t memorized their names and matched them all to the faces perfectly! J/K! (about the exam, not about my face-name matching)

I have watched the whole WinWin show yesterday and enjoyed it even without subs. Here’s something about a question addressed to Siwon, got it from omonatheydidnt.

“Super Junior’s Choi Siwon talks about the rumor of him being an ‘Umchina’ or an ideal son on KBS2 Win Win that aired on the 22nd.

During the episode, Siwon was asked, “It is true that your father is the president of a Japanese trade company, but is it true that you have a helicopter at your house?” by the viewers.

After receiving this question, he seemed embarrassed as he started laughing out loud and explained “It is true that my father is the president of the Japanese trade company, but we do not have a helicopter”.

Because the MCs and the guests– 2PM’s Taecyeon, CN Blue’s Jung Yonghwa– started teasing Siwon, he seemed embarrassed and quickly passed the question it with a laugh.

When Kim Seungwoo stated, “I heard that you have a lot of talent in playing the drums” , Siwon replied by saying, “I never went to a class and I’ve never learned formally”, but then showed a great performance showing off his skills.

He demonstrated his stable acting skills in the recent SBS drama ‘Oh! My Lady’, allowing him to receive a lot of credit and was able to show off his entertainment skill with other idol group actors such Taecyeon and Jung Yonghwa on ‘Win Win’.”

Here are some other interesting links:

http://www.allkpop.com/2010/06/heechuls-special-relationship-with-siwon
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYCUCyKKbe4&feature=player_embedded

Re: Athena pics – love it! Would still wait for my fantasy Siwon spy outfits though (suit with glasses: geeky analyst & leather jacket with shades on a motorcycle: field agent). Like @Sobia, I’m not really fond of these action-oriented dramas (didn’t bother with IRIS), but aside from Siwon, I really like the other actors in Athena compared to IRIS. Maybe Siwon’s so busy on the set of Athena that’s why he wasn’t on the last performance of SuJu’s Bonamana on Music Bank.

Re: Dramabeans' Giveaway – would take time to read the stories this week. Maybe post a story of my own. Still thinking of how far I went on my kdrama addiction...

Aside from my disappointment of not seeing Siwon perform on Music Bank, I really liked Shindong on his performance with Eunhyuk, 2AM & 2PM members, singing Rain’s Love Song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYCUCyKKbe4&feature=player_embedded

SuJu really looked tired in Music Bank. Particularly Heechul who looked like he cried(?) This isn’t their best performance of Bonamana. =(
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fa9r_CCbs7Q&feature=related

And then Taeyeon’s remarks while delivering the thank you speech for SNSD’s win of the K-chart mid-year special award has become a hot topic. There was a problem with her earpiece when she pre-recorded the special stage number causing her to go off-key near the end (around 2:43, then check her glare @ 2:58).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAQQ7QqpYng&feature=player_embedded
She requested for a redo of the performance but the PD did not allow it. On SNSD’s performance of “Oh!” she was definitely not smiling like the other members and her singing voice was noticeably different (see 2:01), still mad I guess about the rejection of her request. Some netizens are questioning her professionalism…=(

Looks like SuJu has only 10 members now. What happened to the other 3? Ok, a member of the SuJuM dropped (or is dropping) out. What happened to the other 2? I hope I don't offend anyone with my ignorance. Should research, I know ;-) and I am. But of course the most knowledgeable respondents I can get are right here in the OML haven. Thanks a lot!

@ Sobia. "Womance"... really? When, where and how did this word start to appear? "... sounds like Barbara Walters mispronouncing the word 'romance'." LOL.

I would love to linger a bit but I'm lightheaded for lack of sleep. Goodnight!

@ Menci - Officially, SuJu still has 13 members, but Bonamana is the first album they've released in which the other 3 did not appear. Han-geng is seeking termination for his contract with SM Entertainment. Kibum is pursuing his acting career. Kangin is starting his mandatory two-year military service on 7/5/10.

I have a very, very, very long post with my replies to you all that's still awaiting moderation (re my post before Menci). I'm not sure if I should repost and divide it in small parts or to wait for the moderation to finish. Good thing I saved it all on a Word doc.

Thank you, Mel. I've been busy.

@ Menci

Thank you for the link. Some of the MVs were fan made, and they did a great job. Boom Boom (Bad Girl) is one of my favorite songs in Su Ju's 4th album, Bonamana. The only official music video is the one for Miinah (Beauty), but Su Ju sang and danced half of Bad Girl on their first comeback stages and I liked the sexy choreography a lot. Here's a link to a live performance of Boom Boom.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQWWJv9MtuU&feature=related

Siwon was MIA. First it was because he only had time to learn the Miinah choreography because he was busy filming OML. It was said that he was hospitalized soon after SJ's comeback due to exhaustion, and that he had an infected salivary gland that was removed; therefore, he missed a few performances.

@ Menci 41

The official version is that Kim Kibum decided to concentrate on acting and that he is/was busy filming (?).

Kang In first was involved in a club brawl last year and was on hiatus during the police investigation. In the meantime, he had a hit and run and was further suspended by SM and was unable to tour or participate on any of Su Ju's activities since. He will start his military service next month (July).

HanKyung (Han Geng) filed a legal suit to have his contract terminated with SM Entertainment and is in China awaiting for the court's decision.

Has anyone posted a link to Oppa, the song that KH sang to lift MW mood? Han Ji Won lipsynched on this video, and apparently also in the live performances. The real singer is Wax.

P.S. Sorry if these links and information have already been shared.

Hi there all -

Do you know how many times I find myself checking this website to see if there are any new comments from you all? Too many to admit to.

My ritual: I get a piece of paper 'cause my memory isn't as good as it used to be, and I write down your names and what I'd like to reply about. Then, I find a good time to reply when I'm not busy tending to my kids or doing other things, plus I must make sure to appear that I'm not spending too much time on Korean dramas because my hubby already knows that I do. Hey, it's my recreation! And as it may surprise others who don't understand what the appeal is, it makes total sense to us. Why, we're already making all kinds of parallels to books and musicals and life and are bound to make endless more.

@sobia - Speaking of making parallels, I laughed about our 10 millioneth+ comment comparing OML and Einstein's theory of relativity. As I said before, we could find parallels with Fat Albert if we tried hard enough...

And "womance"? LOL! Thank you, Barbara...

Pulling a Go Minam...good one! In SJ Full House when Heechul, soon after meeting the foreign guests, told the taller girl (not Anya) that she looked like a dog (meaning that her hair was curly like a poodle's), she made like she was angry and told him she was mad. (I think she knew what he meant but pretended to be offended). Heechul spent the next minute trying to convince her that's not what he meant, and Siwon starts hugging him to make him feel better 'cause he felt bad that he was misunderstood. Aw, I thought, how sweet. The man is totally comfortable with hugging and kissing his friends, yet remains as masculine/manly/charismatic as ever. More like him, please!

And I'm sure you'd ace that Suju test that Ace could give you since you've been cramming since the end of OML. I think we'd all do amazingly well! I, koreanpsyche, doraemon, and one other have already moved from our remote planets to this one full of Suju info! No longer must we live in the dark and be deprived...

On fangurling - As I've already expressed before, I am old enough to be Suju's mother, so admittedly I sometimes feel guilty - like I come across as a dirty old lady. What Ace brought up about it being flipped - men my age fanboying young girl groups - made me realize I'm not any better. So then I think ..1) Demi Moore, and 2) recall Sobia's comforting words including that great quote. It makes us feel younger, rejuvenates us, and there's no harm in that.

To be continued...

Greetings, all my beloved OML-hood friends ! You all are simply marvelous, we are going strong and at an even faster pace ! I

@28 Menci Yes, I had sent several more tweets to Si-won, updating him that we are approaching 350 ! Read that he is now in Italy filming Athena, hopefully he has some time to kill while waiting for filming, and will drop by here to read our posts.

@26 Mel, @40 Ace, like the rest of the new suju fans, I really appreciate all the suju archieve and thanks for all the links. You 2 are indeed resourceful ! I particularly enjoy reading the bit on "Only 13" (btw, pardon my ignorant, what does ELF stand for ?)

@Menci, @Sobia, @Mel, @Ace, I love reading your insightful posts, thanks for taking the time to write them and share with us. Keep them coming ......

@46Doraemon - ELF means "ever lasting friends". I like SuJu's new song. I hiope they come out with the MV for it. @Ace- thanks for welcoming me back. I also think Neorago was their best folllow-up song. It's in my ipod and i've been playing it non-stop. I never get tired listening to it. The song Me is my favorite from SuJu M. It has such a nice beat....very soothing to me. I also prefer their korean version songs as opposed to chinese version. Mind you, I'm also part-chinese but korean language is as sweet as french language to my ear. Back to OML, one of the best advice Shijoon gave SMW is when they were having a drink after SMW visited KH at the Sauna. It goes “People don’t attempt things because they have confidence. After the fact, they develop confidence for having done them.” He adds that everyone has fear, and it doesn’t go away after one, two, or a hundred times — you just develop an ability to prepare yourself." After giving it so much thought and applying it to real life experience, I realize that it is so true. Prior to doing things, there's always this uncertainty if I'm making the right decision. I only gain confidence after seeing it's result (when it's a good outcome) and when it isn't, then I'd just treat it as "learning from my mistake & hopefully not to make the same mistake twice."

Hi, guys! How's your weekend so far? I'll flit in and out (can't shirk the responsibilities in my mundane world *sigh*) and will add a few responses and/or thoughts at random.

To everyone who are taking the time to expand my knowledge and appreciation of SuJu, thank you! The info bits are interesting, the links great, the gesture heartwarming. Love you, guys!

SW has more closeups in SuJuM than in Suju, right? I like SuJuM better then regardles of songs/performances/whatever. (Very shallow, I know., and I'm a little embarrassed.)

Correction to my @28 Menci post. The Fdrama currently airing (and the culprit for my bff's failure to completely watch OML in one day) is " Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo " ("If We Are Separated" or "If We Are Apart." My kababayans, is my translation correct?) The drama I mentioned ended months ago.

@ Mel, I forgot to thank you for your offer to lend your AAE dvd. I'm in North NJ. Am I miles and miles away?

Special mention @ Sobia. "Counting # 10,090,560. How OML relate to Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity, part 2 ..." LOLOLOLOLOL. You're so funny!

Re Athena cast, this is what I can say. If they (the main cast) were in the same room and I walk in, I will warmly say Hi! to all; walk excitedly to SW and give him a 2-minute bearhug and a smacking kiss or two on both cheeks; walk dazed to CSW and silently lean on him, resting my head on his shoulders for as long as he would allow me. I love SW, really really love him; but I so adore CSW. If both men were in my real world, SW would be the man whose happiness I would desire with all my heart. CSW would be my happiness. Gosh, why am I saying this here. I should be posting it in The Characters of Athena thread.

Got to go. Hasta la vista. Enjoy your weekend!
