Lee Jung-jin cast as Rain’s rival in Runaway

Rain now has his rival for the upcoming spy-melodrama Runaway, and it’s 32-year-old Lee Jung-jin (of I Love You Don’t Cry and Bottom of the 9th Inning with 2 Outs).

Also, we finally get more on the story of Runaway, which centers around an “astronomical sum of money that disappeared with the outbreak of the Korean War, which resurfaces sixty years later in 2010.” What follows is “a lively chase” that takes the characters through various Asian cities.

The two characters played by Rain and Lee Na-young, Ji-woo and Jin-yi, are involved in this case but acting independently of each other. (She approaches him to use him, but the romance that develops between the two is an unexpected development.) Lee Jung-jin plays the chief of investigation who finds the case suspicious and pursues Ji-woo, leading to close confrontations between the two.

Lee Jung-jin said, “I’m definitely blessed to be participating in such well-made projects like my recent movie The Fixer and the drama Runaway. Viewers will have big expectations, and I want to leave them with a strong impression.”

Runaway just began filming this week and will air later this year.

The first released stills of Lee Na Young and Rain, PLUS this news? Makes my day, and the only thing stopping me from putting this on my "to watch" list already is the melodrama label the drama's been tagged with. After Cinderella's Sister and WISAC, I'm all melodrama'd out.

Best casting news I've heard today!!! Because I've just finished 9E2O even though I know it's not a recent drama....and I'm glad he has a newer drama!! The casting news recently has been pretty amazing. Though I'm on the fence with Shim Min Ah in My Girlfriend is a Gumiho... (Not a fan of the Naked Chef) But T-ara's Hyomin vaguely makes up for it somewhat.

I'm with the majority on this: LOVED Lee Jung-jin in 9E2O!!! (I agree with javabeans that this title doesn't make sense but so much faster than writing "Bottom of the 9th Inning with 2 Outs", which I just did.lol :)

This drama is now on my "To Watch" list. (Coincidence: Lee Jung-jin's 9E2O co-star Su Ae will be involved in the other spy/action drama, Athena. Hope they both do well!)

I love him. I loved him in 9E20 and even in Love story in Harvard. He is absolutely charming and cute. I even watched the long and overtly-dramatic I love you Dont cry. He is so Charismatic. Rain will have some tough Competition now.

Love, love, love him!
I basically tortured myself with I Love You, Don't Cry just for him and Lee Yoo Ri.

Albeit, I don't like Rain, at all, but woot woot!

What a great crop of news lately from k-entertainment. I've really liked LJJ since 9E2O and I'm not a fan of Rain's. Guess it's another case of rooting for the 2nd lead syndrome.

Darn... I can't believe he's not the lead. I absolutely adore him and Su Ae in 9 End 2 Out. Just finished rewatching it again. He would be a great lead and surely can act better than Rain. Nothing against Rain but I have troubles with giving someone a lead role because he's a popular singer. It ruins the drama for me. I like Rain as a singer/dancer because that's what he does best.

This news I like. I'll be honest, I like Lee Jung Jin more than Rain anyway. He's a better actor and better looking!

He makes my heart beat every time I look at him.

Good news that he is the second lead. I like him too after watching his dramas like Harvard and 9E2). I still like Rain better as the main lead though. LJJ may has more experience in acting than Rain, but Rain is a better action hero and super cool and cute like in Full House. This movie is about action-spy-romantic drama, so Rain fits better with the role.

@melody
Agreed. Rain fits this role. Actually I started to like him after watching Sang Doo. This man has huge potencial.

Oh my! =) I really love Lee Jung Jin since I had been watched him in that drama "9 End 2 Out" with So Ae, yay!

Oh geez, I don't understand why I really like Bi Rain because....this is what he take something so awesome and, like, so BAM! Ahh, I meant, he was doing so great job at acting in that drama "Let's go to school, Sang Doo" and "Ninja Assassin" but he is, like, very impressive, of course!

I really can't wait to see this drama, yayay! =)

I love this Runaway castings... RAIN and Lee Jung Jin together in a drama? WOW! It's just like 2 birds in 1 stone.

Honestly speaking, LJJ is more handsome than Rain. But Rain has this charisma, a magnet that attracts people that no one can compare. I watched LJJ and other actors first before watching Rain. But when I came to know Rain in Ninja Assassin, it seems that everyone was pale in comparisson. I loved him in A love to Kill he showed his superb acting and his action skills, cute and wholesome in Fullhouse, and Let's Go to School Sangdoo was good for a newbie like him...

@melody, I'm with you, Rain fits this role perfectly, a ninja turned detective, who could do a beter job than him? A badass is what's needed.

I like him, too.

But seriously people. To say that he should have been the main lead is just wrong. This drama was given to Rain and maybe was made for him. LJJ probably was not the first choice as the second lead and, tbh it's because he doesn't have that much star though he is awesome.

@Linh Okay, maybe he acts better but he doesn't have the same screen presence as Rain does. And so what if this was given to Rain because he's popular? He has already proven that he can act, what more do you want? There are famous singers out there who are given lead roles but fails/failed. He is a picture of success. Can't you not just be thankful that LJJ has the role?
I sounded like a rabid fangirl but geez, can't just people be happy for a good news and stop the complaints?

i dont know who this guy is until now.

hmmm.... did he act better than Rain?
so why he's still behind Rain (as an actor)? i mean, this director (or Park Chan Wook) did not cast random popular singer for his drama unless he's expecting to turn himself into commercial director and ruin his credibiliy.

Poor Rain, just because he's a POPSTAR, people expecting him nothing but being a popular person, get the role only bcoz he's bloody popular (one of the reasons too though).

go Rain go, nail your role, and beat this LJJ guy as you beat any other REAL actors or more handsome guys you've been working with before.
maybe you can make this drama score a win as the best asian drama like you did for A Love To Kill five years ago
