Let me start by saying I'm so glad Jung So Min was casted as the female lead rather than a idol singer because I don't think this drama can survive with 2 idols leading.

Kim Hyun Joong isn't a terrible actor nor is he that great of an actor (though I think he's good dramatically (dark, strong facial expressions), but not good emotionally (feelings, relationships) -- if you understand the difference I'm trying to make).

I haven't watched any of the other versions of this drama, so I don't know what's expected of this role of his. However, I do know the Taiwan version was HUGE. That being the case, I think this is the wrong (but right) role for Kim Hyun Joong to take on. Wrong because there's an immense amount of pressure before he even starts filming (I would not be surprised if he collaspes from exhaustion again while filming because of the pressure). Right because of the publicity he and the drama will get.

Some people feel the people behind the casting is messing this drama up by casting Kim Hyun Joong, but tactically he is the best choice. He brings hype, expectations, and a good looking face. They could bring someone with better acting in, but this person won't bring the hype Kim Hyun Joong brings, and there are very few actors who can challenge his good looking face (which can compensate for bad acting, in terms of attracting viewership).

I personally don't think there will be much improvement in Kim Hyun Joong's acting, though I hope he does improve for the sake of being respected for his work rather than his face. I think his biggest hurdle to overcome is his uneasiness in showing emotional affection. If he can put his personal preference (of not liking to show his affection) aside and just think of it as acting, I think he can succeed.

A little random note: When I say, 'I hope he improves for the sake of being respected for his work' I mean he gets a lot of jobs and is well known because of his face and I'm pretty sure he knows it. No matter how hard he works as an actor and as a member of SS501, it really comes down to the fact that his face got him where he is today. As a hardworking individual (I don't think anyone would argue Kim Hyun Joong isn't a hardworking artist) it's pretty demeaning to know, in the back of your mind, that you work so hard only to have people appreciate you for your face.

I don't think Kim Hyun Joong ever intended on becoming an actor, but with just a high school diploma, this is the path/industry he chose, so this is the path he needs to walk. And until he makes enough money to live comfortably without work, he has take advantage of and live with the fact that his face is making him his income.

I'm not going to say he's a good actor if he isn't. I'm not going to support him if I'm not entertained by what he's doing. I'm not going to say he deserves respect because of his situation. I'm just waiting for the day when he can pull through for himself, to earn respect for his work rather than his face, and make enough money to eventually do what he truly wants to do.

Hmmm... I watched the Taiwan version (It started with a Kiss and They Kissed Again). Its one of my fave dramas of all time... no offence meant but I dont think kim hyun joong can pull it off... though the lead character in the drama is a "cold" guy, he has to evolve and play different emotions throughout the show... im sad that this kdrama will probably fall on my "ill never watch" list...

I am so excited and am greatly anticipating this drama!! But that's most likely because I am extremely Hyun Joong biased. I loved him in BOF and I can't wait to see him here. Now I'm not saying that his acting was the best ever but I also didn't think it was as bad as people are making it out to be. I watched the Taiwanse version of this drama, and Joe Cheng played the role sooo perfectly. Even if i'm a huge fan of KHJ, I know that he has his work cut out for him and it's going to be difficult to play the role as well as Joe Cheng. But even though he has such big shoes to fill, it's terrible that everyone is already complaining and criticizing him before they've even seen the drama. If you don't like him, you don't have to. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I just think people should at least give him a chance to prove himself before they criticize. No matter what, I love Kim Hyun Joong and I will support him. I am definitely going to watch this drama!!

Although I was not a huge fan of Kim Hyun-joon in Boys Before Flowers and how he played his character, mostly because no one can beat Shun Oguri as Hanazawa Rui, I oddly found myself really really excited about him in 'Playful Kiss'. Possibly because I loved the TW version of this, and I'm, again, oddly looking forward to see Hyun-joon as the lead in this!

thanks for bringing the news that not only will "Playful Kiss" be made into a live action show but also that KHJ will star in it. I really liked him in BOF, and yes, i agree with you that he's not the greatest actor,. but, in my opinion, he held his own with the rest of the cast who, lets face it, were not all that great either. with that said, I really liked BOF and the whole cast. It's just that KHJ was my favorite. I liked his portrayal so much more than the one given by Shun Oguri that I actually wished for a different ending this time around and that KHJ would get the girl as he seemed the better choice.

I like KHJ as a singer and i believe he will become a great actor, but I just dont see him in Playful Kiss. In Boys before flowers, his look matches the character but something is still missing there. I dont think he is at the level yet.

I got to know Kim Hyun Joong and SS501 because of BOF. among the F4, he is my favourite. Thanks to him, I become a kpop fan as well. I am anticipating the playful kiss drama, and I really hope the female lead will not be as dumb as the TW version, since she is smart enough to qualify to be a nurse, I hope they will not make her a dumb witted girl in the k version.
I prefer the Jdrama of Playful kiss over the TW version... season 2 of tw drama, i stop watching after the first few episodes.

As for BOF, I love all versions, tw, Japan & most of all Korean version. However, for both tw & Japan version, I love Daomingsi character especially Jerry Yan, but in BOF, I fall in love with Jihoon character.

Anyway, liking an artiste for his work is a personal choice and preference. Not all people love the king of pop and not all people will appreciate the work of an award winner artiste etc...etc..

Since my spare time is watching drama, I love drama with good storyline, and how the PD entice you for wanting for more.. I dont fancy Historian drama and yet I am attracted to Yisan , Jumong & Legend of the 4 Gods.

As for East of Eden, I couldnt get pass the 1st episode... Maybe, I will try again when there are less distraction..

for me, I would usually watch the drama first few episodes to see if the drama is interesting for me to carry on watching.

Just finished watching the Taiwan version - totally loved it. However, after watching the series I began to have some reserves about KHJ's acting if he can pull through the entire drama because of the time frame of the story - I believe KHJ will have not problem in acting a college school guy / uni guy but a married man then moved onto be a senior doctor...besides there are so many kissing scenes especially after the couple got married. "KHJ, he will have to start practicing his kissing skills" I really wonder how KHJ's fans will respond to them. Anyway, good luck to KHJ.

PS: Sorry if I have offended anyone but I think Lee Minho is more suitable for the role after watching how he pull through those kissing scenes in both BOF and PP.

Everyone gt his/her first time..not everyone is perfect in this world..He already did quite well in few last ep of BOF compared to the earlier ep..i believe all he need is experiences and eventually he will prove to everyone!! fighting!! Kim Hyun Joong!!

There's more to this guy than most people give him credit for.

I have a strong feeling that he'll surprise everyone with PK.
But he won't surprise me, because I think that with the right role,
the right director, and a great script, he might just knock our socks off.
( Wasn't he SUPPOSED to be a "robot" in BOF? )

I think some people who criticized Kim Hyun Joong’s acting might not know his character in BOF was autistic (definition: characterized by impaired communication, excessive rigidity, and emotional detachment). I'm not saying his acting was amazing or anything, just that I understood some of the stiffness and lack of emotion.
The drama (BOF) focuses on the concept of "soul mate vs husband" and I think they played it out really well. Kim Hyun Joong made me wish he got the girl but in the end, I was happy with the ending. Not to mention, he is great eye-candy.
I can't wait to watch Playful Kiss, just wish people would stop putting him down because he truly is a hard-working man and deserves support.

I wish the guy was lee min hoo or kim boom for this film, n for the actress i hope so it is park shin hye.. it will totally amazing like that.. but, i don't take a bad image for the other actor too.. just suggest it.. thats it..
let see it will be better or not than taiwan n japaness version.. more over, i hope the ending would be more interesting than the old one..
the precise one, i will watch it.. ^^ who knows the actor n actres can do well as i hope or not?!?
