Sohn Ye-jin drops out of film My Way

Sohn Ye-jin has dropped out of the blockbuster film project My Way, which had paired her with Jang Dong-gun.

Apparently the script has undergone revisions, and her character has been altered. The role has been given a drastic cut in importance, and the changes are significant enough that Sohn has decided to leave the project. According to one source, “The plot has changed a lot from when the project was first discussed. Sohn Ye-jin and the director Kang Je-kyu spoke with each other and felt mutually apologetic as they decided that she would quit.”

My Way is set in World War II when a Korean man who was drafted into the Japanese army ends up participating in the Normandy invasion.

Sohn had previously worked with the director, who produced her movie Into the White Night. Jang also worked with him in Taegukgi six years ago. According to a source with the production company, they haven’t yet decided on a new actress to replace Sohn. After they do, the movie will begin filming in October, which will include location shoots in Germany and CHina.

O.o I'm so sad! T_T I would've loved to see what the two of them can do together. I do think SYJ is a wonderfully gifted actress, and JDG goes without saying, no?

I was looking forward to watching her in the movie...

But I guess if she does not like her character in it, then she would probably not be able to act as well as she is capable of, considering she is one of the best actresses of her generation...

Whatever the reason/s for her withdrawal, I believe it is her right to do so, as she is a free, independent individual.

I hope to see her in a new project soon.

WHAT!? OMG WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!? =(

So I guess that leaves room for Son Ye Jin to sign up another Kdrama or Kmovie. Here I am wishful thinking that it'll be one with Song Seung Hoon (they need to reunite after SUMMERSCENTS) and more importantly, finally share on-screen time with Kwon Sang Woo!

:D

Best of luck to her and the production team! I hope she picks a drama instead.. I want to see her in a melodrama but not the heavily tragic and heart attack inducing ones.. Maybe more like the first half of Cinderella Sister.. Cute, romantic, nostalgic with angst. Or maybe like the Lovers trilogy.. It is a melodrama but started out somewhat light with funny moments all through out the series. Whatcha think?!

so, it is normal for any actress to quit the show if she found the script not to her liking or has been altered. My point is I LOVE this type of women, strong and independent, not afraid to say what she wants.

@3 aX

Personally, I think Kwon Sang Woo has not chosen a good project drama since Staiway to Heaven.. it's bad for his star status bec he is a "Hallyu star" but I always think of him as a one hit wonder in dramas.. A little harsh? But I think it is what it is. All his colleagues of his generation already moved on and went even bigger like So Ji Sub, Won Bin and Jo In Sung.. But he seems just stuck there. I hope he can pick a good drama next time.

Well good for her. If they cut her role so much, there is really no reason to have such a big name actress. It's really sad to see the really good actresses playing silly things like a damsel in distress, or just being a romantic side kick. In a war drama, I didn't think she would really be in the heart of the action anyway... I wish her luck in her next project

It is nice to know that some actress has the luxury of choosing roles, films and etc. it only shows that they really made it in the business. also maybe if opportunities are pouring in it makes them so happy that they don't think of killing themselves!

@ #6 xiaoSxin

To a certain extent, I do agree with you. He has made some real bad choices but he's made some god ones, too, but they weren't as popular.

One of my favorite Kdramas is SAD LOVE STORY (2004) which he starred in opposite Kim Hee Sun and I thought he did justice in his action-packed thriller film, RUNNING WILD (2006).

But then there's really bad ones that I hated. BAD LOVE (2007) was a complete & utter dissadter, CINDERELLA MAN (2009) had poor execution and he & Yoona were just not a good match from the start. As for his movies, ALMOST LOVE (2006) was as bad as his haircut, FATE (2008) was a huge dissappointment due to its weak script and characters, MORE THAN BLUE (2009) was typical, and I have yet seen INTO THE FIRE (2010).

With that said, I still believe that Kwon Sang Woo has lots of offer, but just made really poor choices in his roles. If anyone can challenge him, it's probably working with actress like Son Ye Jin--she defines versitality but oddly enough, as much as I do admire Son Ye Jin as an actress, I don't like most of her films/dramas.

I always adore her strong and independent self and wish her all the best in whatever project she'll choose in the future. Although I'm happy to see her in any project but I don't want to see her in a drama that has real time production anymore. I think it's ridicilous and painful to both the audiences and the production crews, especially the actors. They have to rush with the time and suffer if the drama has poor ratings. I hope she'll come back with a good movie or a drama that is produced ahead of time like 'A lone in love'.

My way is likely interesting drama , JDG is excellent actor in war drama , i hope
love story better than Road number one and Seoul 1945 , dumb, unrealistic ,
love story .

I agree with aX , this actress in April snow , her acting is so plain , sour face , lack
of sincerity as in Personal taste , boring , i don't like this actress .

KSW is good actor , as SJS , they need better scripts to deliver their acting .

I'm a HUGE, HUGE fan of Son Ye Jin. I would love to see her on a drama or movie with Kang Ji Hwan and/or Yoo Ji Tae. That would be totally awesome.

I also realized that apart from a CF, she have yet to star with Cha Seung Won.

These 3 actors would make amazing pairs individually for SYJ.

@ #12 Cathy

Have you seen 'A MOMENT TO REMEMBER'? It's a Kmovie starring Son Ye Jin and Jung Woo Sung. Definitely one of my favorites! :D Check that one out, I highly recommend it! :D

Well, after her failure in Personal taste, they have to cut her air time to save the movie; otherwise, it will tank and Jang Dong Gun will be dragged down to the bottom as well.

That's how they fire someone.

They cut her part enough so she has to quit to save face. That's how they get rid of her.

The production does not want her to ruin JDG's image just like what she did to Lee Min Ho. Her acting is not that great and it showed from Personal Taste and they do not want her in it.

@kimlan

Sohn Ye-jin is definitely NOT a failure. Thanks to her and her superb acting skills and guidance, Lee Min-ho recently won the Excellence Award for his part in Personal Taste.. read more and you will see that LMH said it himself that he learnt a lot from "Sunbae Ye-jin", and had terrific chemistry with her.
Seriously, u need to find out more before posting such damaging comments. All these actors and actresses work so hard to get to where they are... So please, be considerate. Thks.

Just a late, stray comment on the 2 director-producers named Kang...That was Kang wu-suk producing White Night, a different guy than Kang Je-gyu ;)

This is not surprising, since Lee Eun-ju's damsel in distress also was also trimmed to a blink-and-ya-miss screen-time in Taegukgi! Makes you want to pull out the old Hollywood movie Tender Comrade, just to see woman-centered flick during wartime.
