Han Chae-young signs with Hollywood agency CAA

Han Chae-young has signed with Creative Artists Agency, or CAA, one of the Big 3 agencies in Hollywood, marking her intent to expand her career to the U.S. market. This comes not long after taking official steps in the Chinese market as well, where she enjoys residual popularity for dramas like Delightful Girl Chun-hyang and Autumn Love Story. More recently, she starred with Song Il-kook in the action drama A Man Called God.

Han lived in the States for a time and speaks English, albeit heavily accented. Although her pronunciation and grammar are flawed, based on interview snippets at least she seems able to carry on a conversation in English, which is to her benefit. Not to mention that she’s seriously gorgeous, which never hurts.

Han is not a particularly strong actress, but she’s not hopeless; of all her roles I think her best performance was in Delightful Girl Chun-hyang, where she came off natural and unaffected. She has explained that the character’s personality wasn’t too different from her real one, which is probably why. I’d put her in the same category as Park Shi-yeon of actresses who got unfortunately typecast as sexy and glamorous because of their looks (as Han was for Boys Before Flowers and Girlfriends), when they’re really better at playing down-to-earth characters (A Man Called God).

In any case, best of luck to her. Hollywood is a beast; hope she fares well. On the upside, she is managed by BH Entertainment, which is the company headed by Lee Byung-heon. Of all the Hallyu-to-Hollywood attempted crossovers, Lee’s has probably been the most successful with G.I. Joe.

LOL DGCH was...well...delightful to watch because of her!

And also because Jae Hee cracked me up so much as LMR. It was kickass. Their cute traditioinal scenes after / before each episode was awesome as well. I think this was the drama that hooked me onto Korean rom-coms.

her english shouldn't be that bad (unless being in korea all this time has affected her) i think she was in the US from at least 4th grade and finished high school here....we went to the same high school. we weren't friends or anything (i was a year above her) but i do remember her walking around school in H.O.T. gloves. (anyone remember those???)

Anyone got a video of her speaking English?

Most Asian stars crossing over to the Western market get action-oriented roles. Jun Ji Hyun in Blood : The Last Vampire. It's either that or the foreign looking eye candy.

Lee Byung Hun in G.I. Joe.

Wondering which one it'll be for Han Chae Young..

I knew she attended hs in the states but I've never heard her speak a word in English!

Where are all the Asian-Americans who deserve their chances of making it big in Hollywood?! Yeah, we all know HCY is pretty so she might have a chance.

call me crazy, but i just don't see her making a successful
crossover into hollywood. i'm surprised CAA took her onboard. still, good luck to her.

i really hope her english is more fluent than what she displayed in 'man called god'...

For Hollywood, they'll probably have her play some vixen-type role. I want to see her in a korean romantic comedy again!

I'm biased and must say this up front.

I want Americans that are Asian on our big screens. They should be given a chance and oppty first before foreigners and I hope Hollywood recognizes this.....

I do agree that she is a very beautiful actress and her character in Delightful Girl is what got me attracted to her. I hope that she will do well in Hollywood and hopefully I'll get to see her when I go to the theaters :D

i wouldn't be too concerned about her english. i mean, Rain's english sucks, but he did really well in Ninja Assassin.
