Playful Kiss: Episode 10

Looks like JB’s got some competition in the curly-bedhead-making department! Much of the usual upbeat tone is tamped down in this episode, due to a big misunderstanding that, well, nobody but Ha-ni believes. But I’ll let that plot point go, since it’s nice to have some emotional changes, as Ha-ni struggles to let Seung-jo go, her friends step up to defend her, and Seung-jo struggles to feel feelings.

EPISODE 10 RECAP

True to his word, Seung-jo packs up right away and leaves. Ha-ni just watches tearfully, unable to say anything, and Seung-jo gives her one silent lingering look as he walks out. She bemoans the fact that school is now their only connection, and she’s sure that Seung-jo will soon forget all about her. Oh, Ha-ni.

She sees him pass by on campus, but she’s so deflated that she doesn’t even want to try talking to him. She’s back to being scared, thinking that he wants nothing to do with her. Her friends sigh that she’s returned to her high school situation, back to square one with Seung-jo.

Ha-ni continues to zombie out at school and tennis practice, until Kyung-soo offers up a trade: if she buys dinner, he’ll take her to the place where Seung-jo works. She smiles for the first time in a week.

They arrive at the restaurant where Kyung-soo works on weekends, since that’s also where he got Seung-jo a job as a server. Ha-ni meanders about what to order, as Seung-jo appears at the table. He stays strictly formal with her, just doing his job, but the interaction is enough to bring Ha-ni to tears, because it’s been so long since they’ve spoken.

She finally stops him to say hi, and asks if he’s mad that she came. He just nonchalantly says that he expected her to show at some point (smug bastard), and tells her to keep her mouth shut about it at home. Why? What do you want your parents to think you’re doing to pay the rent, standing on a street corner?

While eating, Ha-ni sees a job posting in the restaurant, so she runs over to get a part-time job, only to find that the last position has just been filled—by He-ra of course. She rubs Ha-ni’s nose in it, in her haughty way, making me want to push her face through a row of chocolate pies.

She asks Seung-jo if she can come by again the next day, which he brushes off as unwelcome. He doesn’t say no, but he does remind her not to say anything about it at home. So of course, she goes straight home and blurts everything to Mom. Haha. You are so incapable of keeping secrets. Mom can’t wait to sneak a peak, and plans to stalk him at work tomorrow. Ha-ni realizes her screw up a minute too late (I know you’re not bright, but really, Ha-ni?) and frets over Seung-jo’s imminent anger.

Sure enough, they show up in disguises, thinking that they’re pretty slick. So, you think your genius son can’t tell who you are, because you’re wearing a hat and sunglasses? Silly, silly family. Seung-jo doesn’t even go through the motions of being upset, since this is pretty much par for the course with Ha-ni and Mom.

He-ra shows up at the table to say hi, throwing Mom into a tizzy, “What are YOU doing here?” Hahaha. I love how she never hides her disdain for Ha-ni’s competition. She even coaches Ha-ni to not let He-ra get anywhere with Seung-jo. She tells her to screw pride and just stick to Seung-jo like glue, and make sure she sees him every day. Peas in a stalker pod, these two.

Her friends tell her the same thing, and she wonders if Seung-jo will hate it if she’s there every day. But they remind her that following him around is exactly her style, so she decides to go for it, pride be damned.

She shows up again the next day, studying at the table so as not to completely waste her time. Seung-jo just acts unsurprised and put out, but doesn’t tell her to leave either. He-ra shows up at the table to take her order in a thinly veiled passive-aggressive maneuver (the kind that seriously raises my ire).

When Ha-ni says she’ll have anything, He-ra sends over a ridiculous amount of food. She continues serving her in that fake-nice tone, as Ha-ni camps out until Seung-jo is done. He-ra calls her out on her doggedly obtuse method of chasing Seung-jo around, wondering aloud what sort of guy would like a girl like that. Just you wait and see, Miss High Horse.

Ha-ni gets kicked out at closing time, and barely scrapes together enough cash to pay for the crazy expensive dish that He-ra ordered for her. Evil wench. She waits outside for Seung-jo, but then hides when she sees him leave with He-ra.

She follows behind them, reassuring herself that they must be coincidentally heading in the same direction. But she follows them all the way to an apartment building, where they enter and get in the elevator together. Ha-ni crumples to the ground as she assumes the worst—that Seung-jo left home to live with He-ra.

She cries alone in her room that night, imagining Seung-jo and He-ra in bed together, and wondering if his declaration that he doesn’t dislike her meant anything. She heads to school the next morning, only a shell of the vibrant girl she used to be, worrying the family.

She purposely dodges classes that she shares with Seung-jo and He-ra, and tells her friends that it’s really the end this time. It’s so heartbreaking to watch her be so defeated. Seung-jo isn’t exactly a man of action when it comes to stuff like this, but he does look around for her everywhere he goes, wondering why she’s stopped orbiting him.

Min-ah and Ju-ri can’t stand to see Ha-ni so depressed either, and finally decide to do something about it. They track Seung-jo down on campus, and he greets them with, “Who are you?” They can’t believe his 200-IQ brain can’t remember them, and he counters with, “I erase data that becomes irrelevant.” You really ARE a robot. Gah.

Ju-ri can’t understand why Ha-ni likes this guy. They rail into him for moving in with He-ra without ending things first with Ha-ni. He’s of course surprised to hear that’s he’s living with He-ra, and answers that he’ll be straight with Ha-ni then. The girls tell him to be gentle with her, but to let her down firmly. Min-ah tells him that they’re not asking him to stop liking He-ra; they want him to do the right thing by their friend, who’s loved him unrequited, for four years.

They leave, and Seung-jo’s face? It breaks into a smile. Aw, you LOVE hearing how much she loves you, don’t you, you little punk!?

Ha-ni continues this way for two weeks, eating next to nothing and feeling a mess. She realizes that without her trying so hard to see Seung-jo, they don’t actually cross paths at all—hence, it was all one-sided.

But lo and behold, Seung-jo appears next to her at school, and when she gets up to run away, he asks her to wait with him. He plays it cool, saying that they haven’t seen much of each other. He purposely baits her, saying that he spends most of his time with “YOON. HE. RA.” You are totally trying to goad her, pigtail-pulling little boy!

But they get interrupted by a girl, a high school student who comes up, asking if this is Oh Ha-ni. It turns out that she’s being tutored three nights a week by Seung-jo and He-ra, and goes to their old high school, where Ha-ni is a legend for her 50th place record. She greets Ha-ni warmly, saying that He-ra and Seung-jo talk about her all the time, and that she wants to go to school here next year.

Ha-ni realizes that this is where she saw them go the other night, and blurts out, “you’re not living together?” Seung-jo acts surprised, even though he totally orchestrated this whole meeting, just to prove to Ha-ni that he ISN’T living with He-ra, but Ha-ni doesn’t know that, and just squees silently in delight.

My god, Baek Seung-jo…you are such a weird little robot boy, but it’s adorable the way you want to make it so that she keeps loving you. The only objection I have is that you’re doing all this to keep from having to admit your own feelings, but I will concede that you may not have the proper data for your robot heart.

Ha-ni gets back to her old self, making chocolates for Seung-jo, to the utter delight of Mom. She fantasizes giving him a perfectly wrapped box of chocolates, and in return, he gives her…a diamond ring the size of Kansas? Hahaha. Even in a fantasy, you must’ve laced those suckers with love potion or something.

She heads out that night with her chocolates, but it starts pouring rain, and to top it off, her taxi breaks down on her way to Seung-jo. She shows up at the restaurant sopping wet and trembling.

He-ra comes over to her table, telling her it’s useless to wait for Seung-jo tonight because they have a tutoring session again. She brings her a cup of coffee with a side of sass. I would check for arsenic before drinking.

Sure enough, Ha-ni takes one sip and faints. See! Okay, fine, it’s just probably your two weeks of non-eating combined with getting rained on in your condition, but you should consider checking He-ra’s purse for untraceable poisons.

Seung-jo’s boss lets him off early to take Ha-ni home, making He-ra give Ha-ni the evil eye, but acknowledge her unparalleled steadfastness. Begrudgingly.

They head outside and can’t manage to get a cab, so Seung-jo suggests walking to his apartment and then calling Mom for a ride from there. Ha-ni is of course thrilled to be invited over, no matter the circumstance.

Aw, how cute are these two?

They head to his studio apartment, where Ha-ni confirms that she’s his first visitor and Seung-jo calls Mom to come pick her up. But Mom tells him that she doesn’t feel like it, and promptly hangs up on him. HAHAHA. Love Mom!

Seung-jo gapes at his phone in disbelief and goes to shower. Ha-ni freaks out about being in a situation straight out of a romance novel, and wonders how to act. She thinks to herself, gulping, “But…this place only has one room…and only one bed!”

Seung-jo comes out, putting her on edge, and he asks knowingly if she’s nervous. He gives her a change of clothes and she washes up.

Meanwhile, Mom calls Duckie and asks him to relay a message to Ha-ni’s Dad: that she’ll be spending the night at Seung-jo’s place, and not to worry. Duckie goes into Defcon 1, asking where Seung-jo lives, but Mom doesn’t know, and wouldn’t tell him anyway (Ha), so upon hearing vague references to where Seung-jo works, he runs out to track them down.

He eventually shows up at Seung-jo’s restaurant, rain-weary and freaked out, and then passes out.

Ha-ni sits uneasily, as Seung-jo finishes reading and then goes to bed. She timidly says that she’ll just sleep on the floor then, which he agrees to wholeheartedly, telling her to grab one of his jackets, as he only has one spare blanket.

That’s enough to break the spell, as Ha-ni’s spunk returns. She says that most men would insist she take the bed, but he answers coldly that he’s not in the mood to say those words to her. Ha-ni: “You’re not even a human being!” Yeah, that’d be because he’s a robot.

Cue Ha-ni in bed, and Seung-jo on the floor. Heh. She asks if she can turn the light on—she’s afraid of ghosts. He says he can’t sleep with the light on, but then he turns it on anyway. Aw. Next, she wonders if he isn’t cold. She offers to switch places with him, annoying him to the point that he just gets into bed with her, announcing that they’ll just sleep like this, so that she’ll shut up about it. Well, it’s true that this is what she wanted, but don’t pretend that it’s not what you’re angling for either. You just get to use her as an excuse.

But once they’re in the same bed, they can’t go to sleep, and Ha-ni starts nervously gulping again, which he notices. He supposes that she has a valid reason to be nervous, since anything could happen—a kiss, or something more…

He springs up and Ha-ni does too, lingering for a moment…and then he lies back down, deflating her excitement. He turns his back to her, saying that he’s not going to do anything, so she shouldn’t raise her expectations. Aw, man. What about MY expectations? Gah.

Ha-ni frets that maybe he doesn’t think of her as a woman, but he reads her mind, and assures her that it’s nothing to do with her. He just doesn’t want to fall in line with Mom’s plan for his life, strapping him down to her pre-ordained path for him. Well, I see that in theory, but I don’t really see how your desire to not be Mom’s toy solider is trumping your libido here, college boy. I’m not even sure it makes any sense or is necessary, since they could’ve just sweetly spent the night together and not had sex. That’s not unheard of. There doesn’t need to be a reason involving Mom.

Ha-ni smiles as that comforts her, reminding her that he doesn’t hate her, and she can’t manage to fall asleep from the pitter patter of her heart. It turns out that Seung-jo is wide awake too, smiling to himself. They lie awake like that, adorably nervous and content, and trying not to let it show.

COMMENTS

It’s always two steps forward, one step back with these two. But what makes it enjoyable is that it stays true to real life. Ha-ni is so swept up in her emotions that it informs everything she does, probably to the detriment of her college career, but what girl hasn’t been there, done that? What infuriates me about Seung-jo is that one minute, he’s a robot, and then the next minute, he’s playing her hot and cold like a seasoned veteran. But that’s realistic too, because, well, boys are stinky like that. Pull a girl’s braids, call her names, kiss her, then pretend you don’t know her. It’s the same cycle, from kindergarten to adulthood, with slight variations to account for liquor, and the bad judgments that ensue forthwith.

Hats off to Jung So-min in this episode, who plays everything from severe depression to utter bliss in the course of an hour. She makes Ha-ni’s lovelorn conflicts so palpable that I can’t help but be carried along by her roller coaster ride in trying to figure out how to love Robot Boy. Somebody, please…give this girl a hug.

Ohhhh---kayyyy.... So here's the deal... I'm looking for directions to this family restaurant? One where a certain unfeeling android disguised as a really hot man is working?

And while we're at it, do you also know if i can order him off the menu too?

Anyone?

No?

Oh, well...

*me gives a deep sigh...the kind that Ha Ni gave a lot of at the beginning of this episode when said android hot boy left home to make it on his own*

Ha Ni calls first dibs in that whole stalking business over me, anyways...

But who can blame her?

She's in the throes of her first real love... the kind where every waking moment is filled with Seung Jo and every single gesture, every single glance, every single word that he utters may it be kind or mean always has a deeper meaning and is magnified ten times...

So what if she follows him around like a lost, little puppy? At least it's honest...Much better than those women who play coy and hard to get just to up their value and to feel good about being chased...I'd rather have Ha Ni's straightforward tactics over that anytime, thank you very much...

Don't get me wrong...i'm all for women empowerment and womens lib and all but c'mon! let's loosen up a bit... Love sometimes can really make one go insane and for Ha ni this moment must be it...

Heck, i'd make a career out of stalking too if it is for someone as hot as Seung Jo just to get a glimpse of him and if i am missing him the same...

(and yes, i'd jump through hoops, eat a super set meal by myself, max my credit card limit and drink seven cups of coffee too if that is what it takes...)

After all he's awfully worth the stake out anyway...

The saying "action speaks louder than words" might have been coined with Baek Seung Jo as inspiration because his words might seem a little too rash oftentimes and yet it is in the small gestures that he does for Ha Ni that the depth of his concern for her is truly revealed...

Perhaps, it is because Seung Jo is complicated and socially inept that he sometimes takes the route less taken when it comes to expressing his feelings...

He might take a longer road going there but the important thing is that, he gets there anyway...

Take for example the way that he allows himself to get wet just to give Ha Ni the bigger share of the umbrella or how he easily agreed to the manager when he asked him to bring Ha Ni home when we all know that he is not the type to agree to anything if he's not keen on doing so...

He may be super intelligent but let's face it, the guy is emotionally stunted and on the other, Ha Ni may be slow witted but her heart is what makes her endearing...

A close relationship between this two is supposed to not make sense, because what do they have in common anyway?

But somehow seeing them together, it just does and everything just falls into place...

It is just funny to note though how her dumbness result in Ha Ni not being aware of the little hints about Seung Jo's true feelings for her and how Seung Jo's emotional ineptitude results in denial of said feelings, even if the truth is he feels incomplete without Ha Ni around him...

(Those anticipating glances that he threw all throughout this episode when Ha Ni was nowhere to be found? It made me want to hug him... The poor boy is so lost and yet he doesn't have a hint that that is called falling in love...

No wonder, He Ra seemed to be the only one who gets whats really happening... I think she's being sarcastic towards Ha Ni because she knows that she's in for defeat and that no matter what she does or how much she wears short shorts, she can never beat her... )

THAT LAST SCENE ON THE BED JUST KILLED ME... OH YES, IT DID.

That was as close to a confession that Ha Ni's gonna get and watching Seung Jo struggle between having Ha Ni beside him and his desire to not give in to his baser instincts even if its obvious that he soooo badly wants to, was so tender and ironically, spazz inducing at the same time...

I swear, i was teary eyed watching him being honest for once about his real feelings without being all mean about it afterwards...

And seeing that smile on Ha Ni's face and the happiness in her eyes?

THAT, my friends is the reason why we stalk!

For that little piece of heaven among the hours and days spent waiting and anticipating for that moment to come... And i guess that makes everything worth it!

Seriously, if there's really a genie in a bottle, can you please, please turn me into Jung So Min in my next life?

I bet during that last scene, fangirls everywhere are drooling and drifting off to lala land, daydreaming that it was them instead in that bed and that they can wake up the next day with Hyun Joong that close to them...

Ha Ni, I give you props for having extraordinary willpower because if i was in your shoes?

I would be jumping that boy no matter what his parent issues are and then the good Lord can take me away the very next day and i will still feel as if i've lived the rest of my life...

(Please Photoshop or CGI ME in that bed in place of Ha Ni!)

Now, that that's done with... on to my next favor, Can anyone direct me to Baek Seung Jo's house instead?

*silence*

What about his bed?

Still No?

Oh, what the hell... in my dreams i still can find my way there anyways...

While I've never committed the sort of dedicated stalking that Ha ni does on a daily basis, I will admit to eating in a certain over priced restaurant more than once a week b/c a certain hottie worked there... and I got my "hard-to-get/hot-n-cold" boy, so here's hoping Ha ni does the same.

i take back all my doubts about jung somin. after each episode i see her, i fall more and more in love with the character she plays.

usually in dramas, i tend to follow the male lead no matter how robotic and cold he is. however, in this particular series, i am all for the female lead. she's so adorable and so real that i feel like i am 13 again and having my first love ever. :)

thank you so much for the wonderful recap :)

YES!
I didn't realize I felt like this until your post.
They write these stories so the male lead, at some point, becomes the barometer for each episode.

Are we happy today? Depressed? Desperate? Dejected? Ecstatic? But our Ha Ni is the go-to face for this one.

Part of it, I'll admit, is because of how we feel about the male lead. If BSJ kisses her, he kisses us. If BSJ gets into her bed, he is getting into OUR bed. ...sigh... The rest I will imagine and not write.

@Chriser , thanks for the background story about BSJ, i really notice how cold Seung Jo actions toward his parents but such a sweet older brother to Eun Jo

the making her a girl in his childhood did affect his social development, now i understand that the last thing he wants to do in his life is to fall for his mom plot, it make sense

Thank you for the recaps...loved loved it.I always knew I was a KHJ fan but this ep is when I finally stopped cringing at Ha Ni's totally gone-for SJ- and the world knows how embarassing I am but don't care attitude...gah..that girl..I just cringe on her behalf in some scenes.
But KHJ....now I understand why some viewers rewatch a scene..I have never repeated the last 5 min so many times and still spazz and go OMG :-)

Wed can't come fast enough.

For the first time I feel for BSJ. Having an interfering mum couldn't hv been easy. He just wants to live his life the way he wants without mum's interference. His confession at the end ties in with an earlier episode where Mum brushes off OHN's dad's thanks to BSJ for helping OHN get into the top 50. Not to mention how little she thinks of his intelligence. Come to think of it, she never said anything good about either son, did she?

I think that BSJ's mom really loves him, I still remember episode 8 when she confronted him about the suffocating 'peace & comfort' in his life.

Maybe her methods could have been better? :) Less embarrassing perhaps?

I cringe at the methods but I don't doubt the love and concern.

Hey, Girlfriday, you made my day :) Your recap was hilarious! Especially, *Seung-jo struggles to feel feelings* and *what about my expectations?!* LOL)))

Thank you!

This episode was intense enough, full of ups and downs. I really like how you, GF, can explain characters feelings! And, sure, Jun So Min is my love! GREAT ACTRESS!!! One of my favorite korean actresses definitely! I really can feel every feeling that Hi Ni feels from deepest pain to great relief and happiness. She's amazing!

The begining was so sad but the ending was so bright! This drama often do this to us, viewers, showing totally oposite sides every episode! But I don't think that's bad, however, like most of you, guys, I do prefer Seung Jo becoming more gentle ceasing being "robot"!...Anyways, I enjoyed last episode as much as previous. My favorite scene was in restaurant when Ha Ni came drenched to the strings and trembling, holding a gift in her hands. Seug Jo was SHOCKED! This girl really can make him being deeply surprised every day! And, I guess, he falls for her more and more with every minute now :) My second faverite scene was "rain" scene! SJ really showed his consern toward Ha Ni, sheltering her from rain. CUTE)
His bewilderment after non-finding her around at college and then his deep relief upon hearing the reason of it...What, BSJ? You were afraid that Ha Ni gave up on you, hah? I think definitley!

And now, of course, loved by all bed scene :) I guess, he was nervious staying at the same bad with her though not showing even a bit of it. Oh, yeah, he is so cool! How could he? But he did! His a boy and she's a girl whom she likes a lot...So, it was hard for him staying indifferent! But, oh my, he's really gentle to her! He respects her! He knows about her innocence and purity! And he can't do such a thing to her! This is, obviously, love!

Do you remeber, guys, his face while asking her wether she was nervious? (when he asked her were she going to take shower) His gentle eyes and loving grin was showing that he knew the answer but once convinced of her simplicity and innocence. lol :)

Waiting for Wednesday! So excited how they'll get up!!!

I'm eargerly waiting for the next episode. I want to see Seung Jo's reactions if he finds out that there's a guy who will go after Ha Ni...can't wait for the twist of events in the next episode...

Though I'm excited to watch the rest of the episodes, on one hand I'm feeling a bit sad thinking that the ending is fast approaching with only 6 episodes left....I hope the producer would stick to its original plan with 20 episodes...I believe that this drama has a high rating and has lots of followers in and outside of Korea...

Ohhh… Hae Ra. Though you deny it, you are like Ha-Ni when it comes to Seung Jo.

After rewatching the episode, I can’t help but think that Hae Ra puts Ha-Ni down thinking it’s something she ‘shares’ with Seung Jo. Something like, “She’s really annoying right? That’s what WE BOTH hate about her right?” affirming the ‘connection’ she has with him.

Oh well, you try hard to be different from Ha Ni, but in the end, you are soooo like her. :D

thanks gf!!! loving your recap and comments as well!
im with you regarding "what about my expectations?"
i laughed out loud upon reading that!

this drama is making a stalker out of me!!!
now i know what oh hani feels!!!! the needing to see (in my case watch/read) and know anything about something that you like! to do things which you dont normally do like checking every 15mins in this site or other different sites for possible recaps, news or new previews of this drama, or writing comments that looks like an essay, watching the fave scenes so many times, its sounds crazy right?!

but anyways, im totally inlove with this drama especially with this episode, the best so far.
maybe because it depics too many similar situations that you cant help but relate to it.

JSM, you are such a fine young actress, you play OHN with so much energy and your such a delight to watch!
KHJ, what can i say? i guess you at least proven us that you do deserve to be seung jo. you play his part relatively well. please keep that little smiles you throw in hani's way coming!

Love the how seung jo was looking around for hani when she's not following him around anymore. as well as the way he like hani to know that he's not living with hera. even though he doesnt want to tell it directly.

*sigh BSJ your being like a 10yr old kid who couldnt even tell his crush that he likes her! but anyways its so cute! so who am i to rant!

How adorable the bed scene was? BSJ what a self control?! well it totally fits your character. i love it that seung jo would have more hard time sleeping than hani. it totally makes them even.

im so excited for next episodes!
hopefully the ratings will be much higher!!!

til then!!

The girls a puppy she happy to run behind him even taking the odd kick from him as long as every now and then she gets a pat on the head, then she happy again. No pride? Well let just say for her, love turns off what little self preservation she has and pride isn't something she even thinks about. While it is embarrassing when you watch it it is also somehow very endearing also.
A point on his flat..no way he could afford that with a part time bus-boy job, like most children of rich parents he likely get all his credit card paid off by his parents, and call it making his own way..lol.

I thought it was really funny how they squished together in the middle of what is actually a fairly wide bed. There were whole feet on either side of them.

I didn't take his comments about not doing anything because of his mother at face value. He knew she was worried, and wanted to simultaneously reassure her that she had nothing to worry about but it also wasn't because he finds her repulsive or anything.

Can't wait to see how they wake up. I bet Mom takes a picture. (That would require her to find his address, but I bet some plot device will allow her to manage that.)

Thank you so much.

I WANT after the shower wet-haired Seung Jo!...There! I've said it! Don't know how many times I've seen that scene. OHN is just so innocent...she should've just jumped him!

And, why the heck didn't we get to see a topless Seung Jo taking a shower and contemplating his life scene? Every kdrama has a gratuitous hot hero topless scene. Where's the fan service? *groans*

I really was not looking forward to this epi after seeing the long preview and I was right. The first 20 minutes was so painful to watch. I just wanted to shake OHN and tell her to move on and give the boy some room. But my heart was breaking along with hers when she was crying.

The only thing that didn't make me just quit the episode was the look that BSJ gave OHN when he left the house and the fact that he actually missed his little stalker because he kept looking around for her. And I heard about the BED scene.

I have said it in each comment in every episode. Jung So Min is the most adorable actress. You feel so happy and giddy when she's happy. And you cry with her when she cries. Her facial expressions are dead on. She is one actress I will be looking forward to watching in future kdramas.

KHJ...I have a bias. I adored him from WGM and I'm pretty sure when I watch BSJ, I anoint him w/KHJ's WGM personality. I think he is a total hottie and woohoo I had total meltdown when I see wet-haired BSJ...picnic scene and bedroom scene...hands down fave moments.

Count me in as a PK stalker...

omgeee...I can't believe I forgot to mention how much I adore MOM. I know it was mean of her to tell Duckie about Ha Ni spending the night w/ Seung Jo...but she was relishing it. I was ..."omg she's not going to tell him, is she?" all the while really anticipating her doing it.

Coolest kdrama Mom ever...no wonder Seung Jo is worried about being manipulated.

Seung Jo be afraid, be very afraid.

She didn't realize Ducky was Ha Ni's stalker. She thought it was just a random employee at the restaurant, and she wanted Ha Ni's Dad to know where she was. When he freaked out, she enjoyed needling him a little, but I don't think she was calling to torture Ducky.

Also, woe betide Ducky if he interrupts them. I think Momma would have a thing or two to say about that!

A True Confession of A Stalker (beginner level).

Dear Oh Ha Ni,

I am a friend of a friend of yours. You may not know me but I heard a lot about you. I heard that you also have a long-time crush. This intrigues me into writing this confession to you.

I have a big crush. This boy is perfect. Good looks; good grades; good family; wealthy and has that aura. Although I’m not in a school with him, I manage to keep tabs on him from time to time. I even wrote a love letter for him; only I never have the nerve to pass it to him since I heard that a girl in his school who confessed with a love letter was rejected publicly by him. Although I felt bad for the girl, I felt relieved that he is still available. So I still keep my hopes high.

But then, I heard big news. A girl from his school seems to be living off with his family. I was in shocked and outraged. I felt like my heart sink rock-bottom, even lower when I found about his mother’s personal blog. There were several pictures of him and that girl that made me cry a river. Although there are many more pictures of him which I downloaded for my personal collection. I even made cut out pictures of him and myself in my fantasy family album. That inspired me more not to give up on my hope.

I am lucky that I’m a good student but not as genius as that boy, but I set my aim high to get into a good university. Since Tae-san is the best, I ought that perfect boy would go there too. But I was wrong, that boy went to Parang instead. I also heard that the girl who lives with him went there too. Oh wait you go there too, right? Hmmm coincidence I guess. But I’m still ok coz Parang and Tae-san is still close by. Do you think it’s possible if you could help me out to find that boy in Parang if I come by for a visit?

The other day, I was walking by the lake and saw that boy bought some T-shirts and some foods. I followed him quietly and was in shocked to see him and a girl sitting casually side by side. I don’t know who the girl was but she has nice hair. Anyway, even though they were only talking; I was crying my heart out all the way home.

Anyway, as I was lurking his mother’s blog as usual, I found out that he has moved out from his house and live on his own. I was so anxious on his whereabouts and manage to find him working in a family restaurant near to my place. I was so happy that almost everyday I went to that restaurant. But to my horror, I found that there are two girls who I think are fighting for his affection. One is a tall skimpy girl in high-heels and the other is a short-klutzy looking which looked very familiar. The tall one is a lot more devious as she manage to be working there too. Now why didn’t I think of that? Sigh…

Anyway, the other day I was really heart-broken to see him and that short girl walking together under one umbrella. I only follow them halfway through coz I couldn’t bring myself to see what’s coming. And on my way back, I passed by this weird guy in drenched wet coat. From his shivering voice, I swore that he is not a local boy, from Busan, may be.

I never stalk a person before in my whole life. Yet for this boy I seems couldn’t let him go without him ever knowing my feelings for him. So could you help me out a bit here? I was wondering if you have free time so that I could tell you more in details about this boy. I’m looking forward to hear your reply.

XOXO
SIM (Stalker In-the Making)

Actually, in regards to using mom as an excuse to not do anything with Hani, it really has more to do with how often his mom has interfered with his life. Just take a look at how she dressed him up as a girl when he was a child. If that's not controlling, I don't know what is. And now, after that tennis camp, his mom arranged for Hani to be moved back in, with future plans to get Hani and Seungjo married. Even for this night that they're spending together, his mom has a hand in planning that. She constantly encouraged Hani to stick to Seungjo like glue and even refused to drive Hani home like she should (she's sick after all and can be better taken care of at home rather than by Seungjo). I know you guys can still end up saying that his mom's only carrying out exactly what's in his mind. But I think from Seung jo's point of view, he wants to do things his way and follow his own course, rather than have everything planned for him. I mean come on, it's like having your mom asking your cousin to be your date for prom because you couldn't find anyone to be your date! How pathetic that would be!

To be honest, I don't think this drama has portrayed his mom's controlling and stalker-ish ways very well. It's like she's doing it so lightheartedly and innocently that she doesn't seem that way at all. However, in the original manga and in the Taiwanese version, his mom seemed very much over the top. (But we all loved her for it anyway).

I'm not sure if it's me, but I just think Hera is purposely portrayed in the most negative light as possible in this drama. Neither the manga nor the taiwanese version has shown her to be that off-putting.

Actually Hera reminds me a lot of Yuko (in the anime). I even expect her to do that "ho ho ho" laugh behind her hand like a lot of anime female characters always do when they're scheming something. Even though she's bitchy, she's not a cold-hearted, mean bitch.. and I can live with this version of Yuko.. :P

(more timid voice) Are you commenting on us, fighting over the wet curly BSJ, or.... maybe, are you adding yourself to the competition? By any chance, have you now joined the wet dishevelled BSJ camp?

Of course I can be wrong, I dare not think that, really...

LOL I agree that Seung-jo totally LOVES hearing about how much Ha-ni loves him, and he does go out of his way to make sure he clears up whatever misunderstandings she habours about him and He-ra so it's quite funny to see how he goes about it. Boy needs to start showing some love openly! I'm hopeful that the kdrama will do this with a huge dose of cute, as PK has been all about the CUTE.

It's been awesome following this drama, mostly because it does give me a bit of break from all the drama of...all the other dramas. Because too much drama can be a tad wearying. If you get what I mean. Hope it's ratings will continue improving since Baker King's removed from the competition!

Yes - this is the same face from Thank You for Waking Me Up
I became a stalker fan after watching that show with the rest of the SS501 doll-people.

I believe the scenes he had with just the host had to be why he started to get more attention from the networks.

His brain sends out the messages faster than his body/mouth/hair can respond.

I am actually afraid to watch WGM. People tell me that is what cemented their adoration of KHJ. As I am already an internet stalker, watching that may force me to quit my job, move to SK, and follow KHJ around IRL!!

You should watch it. Not just for KHJ but because of how achingly sweet and real it is/was. You will get a sense of the person behind his flower boy image, flaws and all.

I don't know how to explain it but by the their last episode, I actually felt less of a fan and more of someone who's simply grateful to witness such a rare emotional connection between two people, if that makes sense. I think this is the reason why a lot of us who saw him in WGM would willingly engage in a fistfight should someone want to do him harm.

Plus, you'll laugh so hard 'till your insides hurt, and that's always a good thing. ;)

Thanks for the update GF , very light with funny comments as usual .
Loved this epi and I'm watching it over and over again since last thursday .
I even loved that part where OHN was hurt and heart broken due to the misunderstanding becoz we could see how BSJ was missing her and searching for her ( with his eyes ) everywhere , then how he tried indirectly to clear evrything ( eventhough he was a lil bit mean by teasing her about spending most of the time with hera ).
The first scene when he was leaving and looking at her being sad and crying and heartbroking was also priceless .
about the bed scene , all I can say is that I'm watching it over and over and over again and wishing for a continuation next week by showing them in the morning inconsiously in each others arms * sighhhhhhh * ( eventhough I'm not hopeful at all ) .
I'm still waiting for the second kiss to come :D

PS : that scene of OHN playing tennis in her room and BSJ and BEJ teasing her , are we going to watch that next week ?
PPS : please galz the second u find a link for the 11th epi preview short or long inform us :)

He has shifty eyes when he suggested it. I don't think that comes from being shy.. LOL.

This guy knows exactly what he's doing.. but when it comes to going a step further, he takes too much time analyzing the situations. Which is fine by me coz I love the tension that ensues from that.

Granted it is good to have an abridge version of the story. The only problem they omits things that is important to the story line. For us who are familiar with the manga and the Taiwan version, we are fine but those who are watching it the first time with the Korean is missing so much important information.

The whole dressing up as a girl as a child by mom is one. Another is when Hani asked for the lights on and Seung-jo says he can't sleep with it on. What they failed to mention is Ha-ni has night blindness which is why she needs the light. Grant it is not in the plot much in the first season but it needs to be mention. So if K-drama manage to get a 2nd season, this will play a major part in season 2. The audience won't feel lost.

The drama is good and at a good pace but it is missing a lot of needed info. I really hope this does well enough to warrant a 2nd season. The second season is so worth it.

Ermm the night blindness thing is a twist from ISWAK not from manga.

PK is an adaptation from INK manga NOT from ISWAK. And they've been doing so good in following closely to each manga chapter. Only sometimes they play with the order of the chapter or combined more than 1 chapter together.

It seems the Taiwanese is more strongly in my mind. It has been a while since my friend had lent me the manga. It was so agonizing slow to wait for the English translation of the manga whereas I got the Taiwan version downloaded and burned so I have watched it so many times.

Hana Kimi was the other way around. It is still a good serious. I will just have to go back and re-read the manga again. That is if I can persuade them let me borrow them again. LOL

Just you, robot ways and all. For a night, a week, a month...you name the terms and I will meet you more than halfway. No strings attached. I can even talk about Sartre, Nietzsche, Bertrand Russell, and all those boring philosophical mumbo-jumbo with you, if you want to.

For didn't you say that you want to have fun? Well, here's your chance. A fun and harmless little fling before you go back to Le Hani. You do realize she's perfect for you, right? Even I can see that, though I'm terribly selfish and still want a little piece of you.

Since he unofficially has a stalking club (with 2 very active members), it can't be just me, right?

I think we all also need to discuss on the economic feasibility of increasing traffic into a restaurant by investing on some randomly designed shirt with medals and a hot robot boy as head waiter. You know, in case we want to go into a family restaurant business after the drama is over.

Did you notice that the a coupla lady customers were totally focused on his face the whole time he was serving?? Maybe they're extras from KHJ's fan club in Korea (the official members of BSJ stalking club LOL).

Thanks so much GF for your awesome recap! I think when SJ said that:

"He just doesn’t want to fall in line with Mom’s plan for his life, strapping him down to her pre-ordained path for him"

he's fighting the fact that he actually likes Ha Ni. His mom loves Ha Ni and wants SJ to get together with OHN, but SJ is resisting because he doesn't want to "fall in line with Mom's plan for his life"....

SJ doesn't want to live his life the way his mom wants him too. That's why he is so hot and cold all the time. He really likes OHN, but doesn't want to admit it, so when he catches himself thinking about her, being nice to her, etc. he turns cold and then when he forgets that he's not suppose to care, because he naturally does like OHN, he's hot. Anyways, that's what I think. Also that's also how it was in ISWAK.

LOVE THIS SHOW! LOVE YOUR RECAPS! KEEP THEM COMING!! PK FIGHTING!!! :-)

The moment near that bench when Hani got all weak-kneed after thinking Seung Jo and Hera are living together.. I felt two contradictory feelings.. that of a gut-punch at her absolute despair and suddenly falling in love with an actress. Jung So Min, you are LOVE.

Although I'm still figuring Baek Seung Jo, I think I've found my peace with him. He does love Hani.. it's just, he's still very slowly learning about love too.. in his own sadomasochistic way.. :P

i've read some people commented that they cant follow ha-ni's logic.. but me, i so totally get her... i understand when she jumped to the wrong conclusion about BSJ and HR living together... first, in episode 8 and 9, ha-ni concluded that BSJ and HR liked each other. even if BSJ told ha-ni that he doesn't hate her, in ha-ni's mind, that confession that does not erase the conclusion about the geniuses liking each other. then what happened? BSJ left the house. then ha-ni saw BSJ and HR going inside a residential building at night. seems to me it was really late at night because it is about closing time for the restaurant. puts the time around 9pm... who goes tutoring at 9pm??? and ha-ni waited about an hour outside the residential building.. hoping against hope that BSJ will go out and somehow will have an explanation for the whole scenario... but no, robot boy didnt show up...maybe i will not conclude that they are living together but i will be making some serious conclusion about robot boy and biatch girl's hot relationship... we girls are wired that way... we assume and we conclude... then we cry a lot... like GF said, been there, done that...

i'm all applause for ha-ni's friends in this episode. in their eyes, BSJ is playing with the emotions of their beloved friend. Because every time ha-ni decides to forget BSJ, he does things to make sure she does not. .. he kisses her. follows her to Parang U. gives her tennis lessons. cook for her. carries her on piggy back rides. he takes her hand and runs around the city. takes her on a date. buys her couple t-shirt. feeds her hamburger. tells her i don't hate you. and it works every time... her confidence and resolve to forget him melts like ice cream... then what does robot boy do? after every sweet moment, he turns back to the ice king. so this time, her friends have enough of BSJ. they told him to stop playing games with their beloved ha-ni. to just tell her that he does not like her. snap snap for ha-ni's friends.

eun jo is so cute in his disguise. and mama baek is gorgeous. and duckie is so handsome. i hope there will be an episode for duckie where he will give BSJ a run for his money.

great ratings. i hope koreans realize what their missing. aja aja PK!!!

Guys, here's Part 2 of BSJ's diary from MBC, translated in English:

He really is such a puzzle, that Robot Boy. Funny thing is, reading his thoughts I can actually hear myself say "Ah..that's why."

So here's the confession. I think have already fallen in love with a robot. Ack.

*runs off to get my head checked*

Ooooops, typo: i meant, "I think *I* have already fallen in love with a robot."

I'm a stickler for typos. Haha.

{small voice} Or maybe I just want to say that twice.

Thanks yeisha! ^^
It really is refreshing to know what really Roboboy was thinking, and it does make sense, at some point,
Coz I think most of the time we were listening to OHN thoughts and how she see things...

This reminds me to an old movie back in 1991 titled 'He said, She said', where a couple is going thru their breakup, but we get to see from both parties point of view, and I got to tell you its freaking hilarious...

I'm liking this diary very much, keep em coming! ^^

hehe... thanks. i'm glad this was posted since it explained the the childhood crossdressing trauma of seungjo... i felt like the korean version glossed through it even though it's an event that defined seungjo's behavior

I agree. In the drama, it was more like a funny, embarassing side story, not the very reason Seung-jo is the way he is: a Robot Boy with major trust issues, not just with his mom but all people.
I wish they had written the explanation better in the show. It would make the Seung-jo/Ha-ni relationship sweeter because he believes that people can turn on you at a drop of a hat, that any friends will dislike him as soon as they see his bad side. But Ha-ni sticks around and likes and cares for him no matter what he does, and he recognizes that sincerity even though he doesn't trust easily.
I also think it would've been nice if the writers had given Seung-jo his own thought process voice-overs to flesh out his character, like Ha-ni did. Oh, well. Thanks for sharing, guys!

But I think the one of the best part of watching this drama is trying to figure out what Baek Seung Jo is thinking. the voice-over will take that fun away from us... :P

Ah, that's true. ^^ Most of the diary entries' thoughts were subtly displayed by Seung-jo's expressions in the drama anyway.

KHJ was readable, but a more seasoned actor probably would've been more obvious with his reactions, like being annoyed but intrigued by Ha-ni or getting surprised or jealous, etc. So that's why I said voice-overs might help. But once he found a friend in He-ra, he at least had someone to tell his thoughts to, and he's opening up more now, so the audience could know more of what he's feeling, too.

But I still think they needed to explain his childhood trust issues more in the show. Like Ashley said below, it adds another layer of depth to their dynamic.

I know. I actually changed my mind after reading the latest diary entries because it got cheesier by the minute (see comment below). Then I realized that keeping a journal itself is so out of character for him anyway.

Still love the robot though. That hasn't changed. ;)

Oh... Thank you!! I'm so glad MBC gave out those because it explains so much about what BSJ is thinking...

That comment in the diary, where he says, "No matter how much someone may like you today, anything can change, nothing is permanent." just added a whole other dimension to how perfect Ha Ni is for Robot Boy. I really wish he had said something like that in the series, because Ha Ni's steadfastness just became even more amazing.
