Joo Sang-wook in Bazaar

Actor Joo Sang-wook is featured in the upcoming issue of fashion magazine Bazaar, just in time to coincide with two new drama projects: the just-premiered Paradise Ranch on SBS, and the soon-to-come Thorn Birds on KBS.

Joo Sang-wook’s roles in the two dramas are vastly different from each other, just as the two dramas are complete opposites in subject and tone: Paradise Ranch is a light romantic comedy, while Thorn Birds is billed as a melodrama with the potential for lots of weepy angst. The former premiered this week, while the latter will take to airwaves in February.

The sudden confluence of projects is actually more coincidence than anything (Paradise Ranch was delayed and delayed, and finally happened to premiere just as he took on his next role), but it puts Joo in the spotlight just as he’s finally hitting the next stage in his career. He gained a lot of attention for his career-changing turn in Giant last year, and Thorn Birds will be his first time as leading man in a drama.

In fact, I’d say there are a number of fans who find the timing of Paradise Ranch unfortunate, because he filmed it before Giant but now runs the risk of tarnishing the luster of that role with this one. While I didn’t find Paradise Ranch outright bad, I think it’s safe to say that it is, frankly, a step back for him as an actor, after acting with heavyweights and in such a well-regarded production as Giant. Well, perhaps Ranch will contribute a popularity bump for him among the young set, at the very least. (I don’t have much hope for Thorn Birds, though I recognize that may just be my distaste for intense/makjang tearjerkers talking.)

I watched Paradise Ranch ep 1&2. Never seen JSW before yet I like him and I think he & the girl are saving this drama to a pleasantry to watch while knitting. I like that spandex jeans type of pullover top he wore in the first photo. I want one for my husband.

Watch Giant!

If you can stand a longer, heavier show it is totally worth it and he is great as the tortured son of one of the best kdrama villains EVER. His character is really hard to describe since he was all-over-the-place in terms of his actions and often was on destroy-anything-and-everything-in-my-path mode and I know A LOT of Giant fans despised him but I LURVED him!!!

Last week people said here he was so much better in Giant than in QSD. So I'm watching Giant & waiting for him to be better. Haven't noticed anything so far. But I found out in ep. 11 why they hired him -- to take off his shirt.

He gets better as the drama goes on in the beginning and then hits a point, where you just love him. I'm with those who enjoyed JSW's performance in Giant. And also his chemistry with his co-stars, be it his father or lover- was insanely awesome. He was quite a character. But I'd have to say that about everyone in Giant. From the smallest to the most important character, everyone shined in that epic-ness.

Did he really take his shirt off on that episode?! Holy shizzles I gotta watch Giant NOW!!! I watched the horror movie Arang just because of him. His role was short but who am I to complain when he had a shower scene. And that particular scene was my most favorite one! XD So, was it on episode 11 only that he took of his shirt?! Any other episodes?? *pervert mode* XDDD

There's two more scenes,but just a brief one... One scene was with his dad, Jo Pilyeon and the other was with his bestfriend (the one who played "Hajong" in Queen Seon Deok). Both scene showed them in the bath tub but only the chest was exposed... tsk tsk tsk....

This photographer must be the same person who did the photo shoot of Yoon Ah-In. The theme of these posses was fine for Yoon Ah-In, but they are too juvenile for JSW.

I think JSW would have looked great more on the James Bond or Rain, in Fugitive Plan B, style.

I saw him in Chunja's Happy Events and absoloutely feel in luv with him!!
Then I saw him in Giant and i was like Eeeeek!!
Now I'm watching him in Ranch, I actually like that Ranch premiered afterwards.
Altho his acting is defintely not as incredible and developed as it was in Giant, it's nice to see a more relaxed and playful side to him.

I first saw Joo Sang Wook in KIMCHEED RADDISH CUBES with PARK SHIN HYE back in 2008 and fell in love with him at first sight. Love him too in Three Dads,One Mom, Chun Ja's happy Events. I watched any projects he was into though his parts were small like Arang and Air City and that movie with Son Ye Jin where he played as her other "husband". I knew that someday he will get his break and thanks to GIANT. I am liking him too in Paradise Ranch better than the DBSK kid. His face is really well chisseled like Superman out from a comics book, and no trace of feminine beauty as what I noticed in most Korean leading men. He carries himself well in a suit like a manequin. More power to JSW and good luck to Thorn Birds and may he have more projects to come.
Simply love him and hopes that he reunites with Park Shin hye in another drama.
