Secret Garden concert doubles as finale shoot

With its popularity soaring, weekend drama Secret Garden is planning an OST concert to be held next weekend, just in time for the drama’s finale. It will be held at the Children’s Park Dome Art Hall on January 15, and will feature performances by artists Baek Ji-young and 4Men, who are both on the soundtrack, as well as actors Yoon Sang-hyun and even Hyun Bin.

The drama’s soundtrack has been selling briskly online as well as offline; the first CD (OST parts 1 and 2) has sold out of its 30,000 copies. The second CD (parts 3 and 4) recorded nearly 30,000 pre-orders as soon as its release date, January 3, was announced. A part 5 is planned, which will feature Hyun Bin’s version of the song “That Man,” which already has two versions in circulation (one being “That Woman”).

My first thought was that it was odd timing to schedule the concert for broadcast night — great way to keep fans from watching, right? — but it appears they’ve got that covered. The concert runs from 8 to 10 pm, after which the roughly 2,000 attendees will be able to watch the 10 pm broadcast live.

The concert will be pulling double-duty, because footage from the Saturday night show will then be used in Sunday night’s finale broadcast. Talk about cutting it close with the live-shoot. (I know it’s common for a drama’s final episode to be shot a day or two before it airs, but I’ll never get over thinking that isn’t CRAZY.)

The pricing has drawn some disgruntled complaints, however, as many feel the 99,000 won price tag is too steep (close to $90 USD). Concert organizers countered by saying the quality of the show will be greater than ordinary pop concerts. (O rly?) But in the end, I suspect enough fans will be happy to pay up to get to see Yoon Sang-hyun and Hyun Bin in person.

Heh, my parents don't give me money. But at minimum wage where I am, 10 hours should be enough to buy the concert ticket. Now all I have to do is hide in someone's cargo bound for SK and I'm halfway there.... If only it were that easy.

Or you just fedex urself. Just punch holes thru the boxes, bring some food&water, and download all the eps of secret garden to an iPod &watch it throughout the trip. Don't for get to put urself in priority mail…but thts just a fantasy. It's not liek imma do it...ha ha.

why was this not happened in November or October when i was there? My next question to myself is why did i used up all my vacation leave and max-out my credit cards????? i could be there Korea, jostling other fans for a ticket to watch this concert, huhuhuhu =(. You Koreans are sooooo lucky!!!

I didn't know Hyun Bin could sing.

As much as I love the soundtrack and performers, the ticket price is way too expensive.

The finale already next week...time sure flies - it feels like SG started just a little while ago. Hopefully the concert goes well!

LOL, that's cheaper than the price I pay to go see Keun Suk here in Japan. The ANJELL and ANSHOW tickets were about 120USD. But quite worth it if you love the people you're seeing.

Same for me, here in the USA. $90 is certainly not pocket change(as least for me it isn't), but pop concert tix are easily that and more. If I could be in Korea, I'd gladly pay $90 to be able to go to this concert.

Oh well, at least I can do the next best thing. I just placed an order for the 2 OST CDs. Thanks, JB! ;)

Even if they want to go with shooting a drama while it's airing, I don't get why the production team doesn't plan better to provide an extra few days buffer or a week of buffer. Is it because they don't want the ending to leak?

I can't believe how popular the OST is! I personally found most of the music in the drama a bit run-of-the-mill. likable but not something I would listen to outside of hearing it in the drama. The only piece I really like was this instrumental piece that someone once mentioned was also in Lovers in Prague.

Clever. Instead of paying for extras to stage a concert for the episode, get fans to pay to be in the concert. This way, they save money and make profit out of it. I was very excited about Secret Garden in the first few episodes, but somewhere along in the series ( I think after the body swap) it lost its lustre. I still think it is good but not great. Too bad.

i paid $200 for kim hyun joong and b2st and it wasn't even their own concert... half of it was trash and the stage was lame. I'd gladly pay more for this one if I could. -___-;;

yep.=D i flew in 10 hours from saudi arabia just to watch it too... kkkkk~~~~XD then we went to egypt last july so i've blown all my cash.... -____-;; if only i could've seen into the future.... i would've ditched hyun joong for this one...>,<

Every minute of the day, I'm listening to the ost songs including Hyun Bin's!!!!!
I wish I was Korean so I'd have an excuse to come to Korea right now!!
Can't wait till the season finale, I hope the people sub it soon but thanks JB and GF for putting up all the recaps, its really great that I can understand whats going on!!!

I don't love all the songs on the soundtrack; most of them are decent, but I am in LOVE with Baek Ji Young's "That Woman" and I have listened to it too many times to count. And after Oska's mini-christmas concert for Seul, I'm liking "Here I am" too. That was a really sweet scene.

I'm really looking forward to hearing Hyun Bin's singing voice. I hope he can sing that song well although he is not a singer like Yoon Sang Hyun. I remember Kim Nam Gil sang a song for Queen SeonDeok OST and it turned out that he had a great voice and could sing really well.

It's said that they'll be giving away sparkly tracksuits and Oska calendar at the concert (not sure if everyone gets it though), which probably contributed to the pricing. But it'll be worth it just to be able to see the main actors in person! Squee! Now if only I can get my hands on a ticket... I'd fly to Korea in no time.

I would pay $90 to see the cast in that concert, but I would freak out and demand a refund if I see Hyun-Bin in that tracksuit. I might chase him with a velcro pad too. <.<

$99 for an idol concert tic is quite steep. I paid the that much to see Metallica live. I wonder why Ha Ji Won doesn't lend her voice to the OST. After I started watching Secret Garden, I found out that she used to sing on stage and released 1 or 2 albums a few years ago. I saw some of her clips on Youtube and think they're quite ok. Her voice is not outstanding but is quite sweet and clear.

Even though I like the cast, I wouldn't pay $99 bucks to go to the concert, unless I got a free ticket or if I were a millionaire. What a ripoff!
