Kim Soo-hyun cries for Dream High

Kim Soo-hyun, who plays country-bumpkin-with-the-voice-of-an-idol Song Sam-dong in KBS’s Dream High, is looking mighty melancholy in the newest stills released from the production, which come from an upcoming episode (Monday’s Episode 10).

One only need scroll down to the other set of stills to guess why. At least that’s the assumption I’m making, because the episode reportedly marks a turning point for the Sam-dong character, who sheds his role of faithful-protector-standing-in-the-shadows and “comes back a tough guy,” complete with new short haircut.

The upcoming school trip to Japan allows for the date between Hye-mi (Suzy) and Jin-gook (Taecyeon), pictured below, and when Sam-dong witnesses the cozy scene, he makes the vow to become a top star.

Sounds like the story’s finally gonna give him some meaty material to work with — not that I haven’t been fully loving the Hye-mi/Jin-gook/Baek-hee stories, but it’s been a damn crying shame that a fantastic actor like Kim Soo-hyun (the cast’s best actor by far) has been so underutilized thus far. But I have really appreciated the way the drama has been taking the characters and giving them lots of growth and reversals, such as Hye-mi’s development from spoiled brat into a (gasp!) sympathetic character, and Pil-sook’s awesome independence from her Jason crush. Can’t wait for the new chapter in the stories.

that's the cry of my SamMi heart!
OMG!!! poor samdong!!!!
the heartbreak train will be stopping by at his station!
but i guess your noona's are here to give you a bear hug! LOL!

well the good thing about it is that its time for kim soo hyun to use his great acting chops!

i really hope samdong's character will be given the right development!

im loving dream high every episode!
cant wait for monday and tuesday!

i am torn about these pictures because i don't feel that sad for Sam Dong (okay maybe a little) BECAUSE THIS LITTLE BIT OF HEARTBREAK WILL BE ALL WORTH IT ONCE HE BECOMES AWESOMESAUCE AND GETS HYE MI.

I will eat beans for a week if he doesn't come out top dog.

ALSO HE LOOKS EXTREMELY HOT AND AWESOME CRYING.

I don't understand how Kim Soo Hyun's such a natural though. Seriously, I feel like his screen presence and skill as an actor is so natural and effortless. Obviously he's still got plenty of room to grow but you know what i mean...

I think his screen charisma and skill is what makes me more drawn to Hye Mi/Sam Dong... because when Soo Hyun is on screen with Suzy, she's more radiant and lively. Her character, and the actress herself. That's why.

Yay!!!! It's Monday in my time zone and just less than 2 hours before DH airs...

I've been reading some of the comments and was really irked at some MiGook shippers who assumes that their ship is a done deal...tsk, tsk, tsk...don't underestimate our Samdong. He said he won't give up and I'm pretty sure that he'll be more than awesome after seeing that kiss. Liking Samdong's new hair. 

a tiny question here..
i heard somewhere before that there would be no kissing scenes for suzy since she's underaged (and it apparently it would be illegal to film such scenes)?

I don't think its illegal... but its just not common for sure. Kissing scenes are still kind of racy by Korean standards (some are old enough to remember when the scandal that occurred when the first kiss scene ever showed up in a k-drama (lol the actress had tape on her lips)) Suzy is an idol, they often won't take any chances on their image in an industry where image is everything. This is especially true when the person she's kissing is quite a bit older than her.

So if she does, I'll be shocked, but very pleasantly surprised. I always admire the actors/actresses who push for strong scenes/acting in their dramas over their own image. Its more fun that way too. Watch the Hong Gil Dong special and there's a part where both the male leads talk about how frustrating it was to reduce the kissing scenes with the girl to a mere peck. I was like lololololololol.

I am MORTIFIED!
I'm still not touching this drama with a barge pole and I've been avoiding the recaps too, but still I could accept why Kim Soo-hyun would accept a lighter-hearted project for a change, particularly if it's one that's offering him a lead role y'know? But WTF! It's NOT even a lead role?!?!?
And they're making him cry precious tears too?
I mean... the same tears that once moved the heart of Jo Pil-yeon?

This is one bad, BAD year for Giant alumni.
