49 Days: Episode 9

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Now that we’re just about at the halfway point, the story really shoots forward. I had a feeling this was coming soon, but not THIS soon. But no complaints from me — I’m just hanging in there till tomorrow gives us the next episode.

(Also: Check out too-cool-for-school Kang, all awkward in front of his birthday cake. Aghhhhh so cute.)

EPISODE 9 RECAP

Kang barges into Min-ho’s apartment, telling Ji-hyun that if she’s not working here because she likes Min-ho, she’d better quit. (Side note: I like the way he addresses her “Song” rather than, say, Yi-kyung-sshi, saying it with a little emphasis so it sounds like “Ssong.” It’s the kind of thing you’d call an old buddy, perhaps, and it’s always interesting to note what people call each other when it’s outside of the norm.)

He doesn’t wait for her to answer and drags her out of there, not noticing that he’s clutching her burnt hand until she draws back. She’s torn because she wants to stay behind to find out what’s in Min-ho’s safe, but she’s also touched by Kang’s concern.

(His explanation for his behavior is that he can’t let her stay here with his friend’s fiancé. That word choice is telling in itself, since he could always use the ole “watching out for my buddy” defense, but instead his words show loyalty to Ji-hyun.)

Ji-hyun tears up as Kang goes on and on, and when he asks if she intends to stay, she shakes her head no. Finally he relaxes, then takes her back to resume her job at Heaven.

Ever gruff, he tells her not to slack off, but adds to Manager Oh that she shouldn’t do the dishes (because of her burn). He admits to Manager Oh that he feels at ease with Yi-kyung back, but can’t make sense of why. The manager gives him the side-eye, as if to say, Really now?, which is probably an echo of all of our thoughts. Silly boy. It’s like he doesn’t understand human emotions.

But I suppose it’s not as straightforward as mere interest in Yi-kyung, because his conflict comes from feeling the Ji-hyun-ness in her. He recognizes that he’s acting in response to that resemblance, but can’t understand why it should motivate him this way. Not that you can blame him. It’s not every day that your one true love almost dies and is brought back in the body of another woman temporarily.

Min-ho comes home and rings the bell, which seems like an odd thing to do when he’s the owner — it’s like he wants Yi-kyung to welcome him at the door, like a wife. He’s therefore alarmed when he finds the place empty, dirty laundry on the floor where she dropped it.

He’s so upset that he brushes aside a call with In-jung, who tries to bring up new concerns. She’s noticed that Ji-hyun’s father is keeping meetings from her and Min-ho, and worries that their plans are in jeopardy. Min-ho, on the other hand, is distracted and tells her he’s gotta take care of something important. She rightly wonders, “What could be more important than this?” Something tells me that Min-ho’s growing obsession with Yi-kyung is about to derail his carefully laid business plans, which would be the best revenge ever for Ji-hyun, who’s not even trying to ruin him (that way). Talk about poetic justice.

Min-ho hurries to Kang’s restaurant to ask for Yi-kyung’s address, and finds that Kang took her away out of anger over the situation. Min-ho doesn’t see why he’d be upset, but Kang says that he feels responsible for introducing Min-ho to Yi-kyung. What’s important here is that Ji-hyun is his fiancé.

To which Min-ho says no, not anymore — “I’m a realistic guy. I don’t think I have to continue loving someone I can’t be with in the future.” Congratulations, dastardly villain: You’ve just dumped coma girl and secured your place in hell. Well, you probably want a good seat. I have a feeling it’ll be crowded down there.

Kang’s incredulous at Min-ho’s quick acceptance of Ji-hyun’s condition, but Min-ho asks Kang how long he’ll cling to hope before realizing the obvious. (This is a mirror of the Seo-woo/In-jung argument, which suggests to me that Kang and Seo-woo will be Ji-hyun’s first two tears.) Kang points out that you can’t turn love on and off at will, but Min-ho, evil robot that he is, says that he can.

Afterward, the boys join the ladies for birthday cake, and Kang is adorably uncomfortable being the center of attention. Ji-hyun sings along from a distance, then steps forward to greet Seo-woo particularly warmly, ignoring the other two backstabbing liars. She cheerily returns the soup thermos to Seo-woo…who has no idea how she got it in the first place.

In-jung had used it to bring Min-ho dinner, so Ji-hyun chirps, “Ask Shin In-jung,” guaranteeing everyone’s curiosity. In-jung tries to dismiss the subject, but Ji-hyun’s not letting her off the hook and starts to explain the story, so In-jung interrupts and asks to see her privately.

Outside, Ji-hyun feigns innocence and asks why In-jung needs her visit to Min-ho’s apartment to be such a secret, wanting to hear In-jung spell it out.

She “guesses” the secret and says knowingly, “I got it! You weren’t there on an errand, were you? So he’s not just your friend’s fiancé. I understand now why you want me to keep quiet.” In-jung denies it, but Ji-hyun just nods, “Okay, I won’t tell anyone that Kang Min-ho is your boyfriend.”

Kang comes out to check on them as Ji-hyun makes a “My lips are sealed” gesture, which makes him think of Ji-hyun doing the same thing. It’s a pretty common signal, but the move, coupled with the way she smiles, is something we’ll just add that to the list of things that make Yi-kyung seem familiar — and this time, In-jung also makes the connection.

All this shifty behavior has piqued Seo-woo’s curiosity, and she later pesters In-jung for the full story. She makes a few guesses that are on the right track, suspecting that this has to do with In-jung’s mystery boyfriend, but is a few details shy of putting together the full story.

Min-ho calls In-jung out and again urges her to be patient until everything is settled. But In-jung, tired of sneaking around, counters that she’d rather everyone knew the truth so they could date openly — even if Ji-hyun’s father found out the truth, what could he do to them? Uh… you mean other than ruin the plans you’ve worked on for two years and leave you with nothing?

Min-ho has figured out that a jealous In-jung sent Kang to his place to discover Yi-kyung there, and she confirms it, saying she couldn’t stand the idea of Yi-kyung hovering around him. He apologizes for hiring Yi-kyung, admitting it was mean of him.

But! In-jung’s evasiveness has been growing more and more suspicious, and Seo-woo sneaks outside to see the couple talking, though she can’t hear the conversation.

Ji-hyun “confides” in Yi-kyung about Kang taking her away from Min-ho’s, and how she was relieved because being around Min-ho stressed her out. She’s in a good mood tonight, because she has an appointment to meet three of her friends tomorrow — surely she can wring at least one tear from them.

Thankful that she has Yi-kyung to talk to even if her voice is technically unheard, Ji-hyun wants to return the favor. She decides that if her Scheduler doesn’t track down Yi-soo, she’ll do it.

Daddy Shin, meanwhile, starts getting his own affairs in order. He keeps his illness a secret from his wife, but tells her that he’s having his will drawn up, and that he’s leaving the company to Min-ho. She doesn’t approve of the idea — he’s not their son-in-law yet — but Dad has made up his mind.

Unaware of this, Min-ho worries about President Shin’s health, having discovered the truth from the doctor. Despite his intentions to usurp his business, he’s actually upset at this news, and urges the president to get the surgery.

Dad says he’s afraid he’ll die in surgery and not get to see Ji-hyun wake up. Min-ho argues that even a 30% chance of survival is still a chance, and that he has to think positively. Such concerned words only reinforce Dad’s belief that Min-ho’s a good kid, and he says he’s glad to have him there. Min-ho at least has the grace to look conflicted about that.

(I like to give him a LITTLE credit for genuinely feeling bad about the president’s possible demise, and he does seem to want the man to recover. Perhaps part of that is mixed in with a desire for a complete victory, to win fair and square.)

On her way to meet her friends, Ji-hyun spies Kang walking by and bursts out “Han Kang!” before remembering he’s her boss again. He, on the other hand, is struck by the way that Yi-kyung’s intonation of his name is just like Ji-hyun’s and asks where she went to high school. And why she cooked mussels in the soup if she doesn’t like them herself. She thinks up a few plausible responses, but she picks up on the hint of suspicion in his questions.

He merely says that Yi-kyung reminds him of a friend — and while they weren’t close friends, he does owe her for a lot. Ji-hyun puzzles over what he could be referring to — owes her for what?

In-jung gets her first inkling at President Shin’s plans when the lawyer drops off documents. Upon reading the drafted will, she reports to Min-ho that the president intends to leave the company to him.

Min-ho can guess what triggered this decision, but curiously, he keeps mum and doesn’t say anything when In-jung wonders about the will, only saying that time will tell. What are you planning, evil bastard?

(I wonder if Min-ho is going to cut In-jung out, now that his super-secret takeover has been rendered moot by President Shin just giving him what he wants. Would he cut her out of the loop to keep himself in the clear? He seems to be the kind of guy to whom love is a decision, not an emotion, so I can see that happening…)

Ji-hyun meets her sad party of three at the coffee shop, feeling hopeful to see that the friends wear long faces and seem depressed. They explain that they hadn’t been by the hospital to see Ji-hyun because they were told her parents didn’t want visitors, and hold back tears as they realize the situation is much more dire than they’d thought.

They’re on the cusp of tears, so Ji-hyun figures one good push will move things along, and explains that loving words from friends may be able to register in Ji-hyun’s nearly-vegetative brain. She asks for some last words, which she diligently records on camera, and the friends start to break down into sobs. This response is encouraging — until Ji-hyun looks down at her necklace and sees that it’s still empty. Wither the tears?

Now she remembers the Scheduler warning that not all tears are pure, and some are driven by selfish motives. She looks around at the friends and wonders what their motives are.

Turns out that one is thinking of how she’s working butt off for her thesis and feels that it’s unfair that it could all go away in the blink of an eye. Another says that Ji-hyun was so cocky about her fiancé and her life — now her money and so-called soulmate are useless. The last one cries in pity, because Ji-hyun’s accident has put things into perspective for her — she’d wanted to die after a botched eyelid surgery, but now sees how silly that was. Well, at least she knows now.

Asked what kind of friend Ji-hyun was, the girls agree that she was nice — TOO nice, to the point of annoyance. Her sweetness was interpreted as cockiness by one friend, and as cluelessness by another. After they get their gripes off their chests, they recall themselves and add that still, she was nice. Well, then.

Ji-hyun walks out of the meeting feeling shaken, and arrives at work in low spirits, crossing names off her quickly dwindling list of friends.

Kang asks worriedly what’s wrong, but before they can get into it, Seo-woo comes running up with the news that President Shin is planning on formalizing his will today, which would leave his company to Min-ho. Ji-hyun can’t let that happen, and she cries, “No!” as she rushes away to put a stop to it.

She races in a panic to meet the Scheduler, who hilariously wonders if the Shin family DNA has got a trust-people-stupidly gene. Ji-hyun needs to put a stop to this right away, but can’t feasibly do so in Yi-kyung’s body. She can’t do anything in spirit form, either, so she begs the Scheduler to stop the will from being signed. He puts his foot down at that — that’s direct interference in human matters, and would merit punishment.

But he’s weak to her tears, and consults his deathphone for a loophole, hitting the “Chance” button. (I dunno about you, but I don’t feel comfortable with the idea of my reaper even having a chance button.) What he gets is this deal: in exchange for being able to touch one item, one time (while a spirit), she has to give up one of her 49 days. She jumps at the offer, agreeing to his warning that she’s responsible for handling everything else on her own. He won’t help at all.

While she talks, she doesn’t notice that the manager’s wife and the cafe waitress see her from across the street — and that she looks like a crazy woman, talking to a Scheduler they can’t see. They report this to Kang, saying how Yi-kyung’s gone crazy talking to herself and went home.

Ji-hyun hurries to drop the body off at the apartment, putting her plan together along the way. Stuffing a newspaper into an envelope, she addresses it to her father’s office, then sends it via courier to be delivered right away. Once her preparations are complete, she ejects herself from the body and rushes out.

When the deliveryman arrives at the office building with the envelope, she follows him to the office. In-jung accepts the envelope, and takes it into Daddy Shin’s meeting, just before the will is about to be stamped and made official.

Dad opens the envelope and finds the newspaper, assuming it’s a prank — until a story catches his eye. It’s an article about a woman in America who woke from a coma after 20 years, and as he reads it, Ji-hyun pleads with her father, saying that she won’t make him wait that long, and asks him not to sign.

But he turns back to the proceedings, to her horror, so she rushes forward to use her one-time-only move: She shoves the seal off the table to the ground, just as he’s about to reach for it. She’s trying to make him connect the dots warning him not to do this, and he does get the inkling that this is all very peculiar, but he reaches for the stamp to proceed anyway.

She’s all out of moves and cries for him to stop…which is when some other, unseen force knocks something to the ground. Her framed photo.

Aw, Scheduler, you big rule-breaking softy! He appears in a flash, grumbling like he’s all put out by Ji-hyun’s annoying predicaments, but Ji-hyun understands that he’s done this for her and is appropriately grateful. And this, finally, is enough to make Dad wonder why the photo fell. He looks at the photo of Ji-hyun and asks, “Were you sad that I was treating you like you’re already dead?” Thankfully, he takes the hint (or three) and decides not to sign today.

Ji-hyun thanks the Scheduler over and over, but the Scheduler barely listens to her, distracted as he looks around warily. He wonders, “Did they not notice?” Which is when a motorcycle comes roaring up, and a leather-clad grandma confronts him. The Scheduler stutters, “S-s-sunbae!” knowing he’s about to get his eternal ass whooped.

Biker Granny grabs him in a headlock and delivers a few noogies, then lectures him about breaking their cardinal rule about messing with human stuff. Hilariously, he sends Ji-hyun away, protesting to grandma not to do “this” (i.e., scold him) in front of her. Ha.

Grandma Scheduler asks if he’s dating Ji-hyun, which he profusely denies. He defends himself, saying he couldn’t avoid stepping in, and that he’s never met a human as ridiculous/impossible/strange as Ji-hyun, cajoling Granny to cut him some slack.

She gives him the punishment of tacking another week to his Scheduler term — a prospect that sends him begging for reprieve, since he’s been counting down the days and only has 30 left. No dice, and she leaves him whining and throwing a tantrum, which entails literally kicking and waving of fists. It is absurdly adorable.

After worrying all day about why Yi-kyung rushed out in such a panic, Kang goes after her, arriving in Yi-kyung’s neighborhood at the same time that Ji-hyun races home.

She makes it back a few moments late, after Yi-kyung wakes up to see that her front door is open. At yet more evidence that weird things are happening that she can’t explain, Yi-kyung is shaken and hurries out clutching the doctor’s business card.

That takes her right past Kang on her way to use the neighborhood store’s phone, but he misses seeing her because he’s asking for directions. When he arrives at Yi-kyung’s door, he’s perturbed to find the place empty, wondering where she could have gone.

When Yi-kyung meets Dr. Noh at the coffee shop, she confides that she’s afraid she’s going crazy, and runs down the list of things she can’t explain: Her ankle hurt for no reason, her landlady mentioned talking to her, she vomited food she hadn’t eaten. Not to mention waking up to find herself sitting in the middle of the room, or with the door open.

Dr. Noh suggests that she may be sleepwalking, which would explain her inability to remember the incidents, and advises her to come to the hospital for tests tomorrow.

Kang broods that night while clutching a charm bracelet — which must have something to do with his and Ji-hyun’s hitherto unexplained rift, which I’m eager to hear more about. After all this buildup, it had better be a good one. D’you hear me, drama gods?

In the morning, he takes Ji-hyun’s favorite flowers to the hospital, where he’s been faithfully keeping her room stocked in pink roses. But to her father, his presence is curious, because as far as Dad’s concerned, Kang is just a satellite friend who irresponsibly quit designing their project midway through. Disapprovingly, he tells Kang to stop visiting the hospital room, which, ouch. Poor repressed guy. I suppose that’s what you get for pretending you hate the girl.

Ji-hyun shows up to work to find that the restaurant is empty, since it’s closed today. The sight of the piano catches her eye, and she sits down to hum along as she plays, which Kang hears on his way in.

As with all things Ji-hyun, he immediately recognizes the familiarity and thinks back to another time he’d heard this tune. It was back in high school, when he’d been sleeping in the auditorium and Ji-hyun had begun playing, unaware he was listening.

He sees Yi-kyung at the piano, but envisions Ji-hyun’s image superimposed there. He can’t shake the feeling anymore, and approaches looking both suspicious and incredulous as he asks, “Who are you?”

And then: “Are you…Ji-hyun?”

COMMENTS

Eeeeee! I could feel this coming, and most of us were probably sure that Kang would be the first to suspect the Ji-hyun connection, but I actually thought they’d make it the cliffhanger to tomorrow’s episode and force us suffer another week of suspense. So I’m frankly thrilled that it comes a bit early, because catching us off-guard is always better than coming too late to provide any surprise.

The little signs that Kang is picking up on are pretty minor — so minor that any one of them on their own is laughable as “proof” — but I suppose it’s really the culmination of all the little clues that gives Kang his unshakeable feeling. The nervous tics, the song, the gestures, the lilt of her voice. Those are the kind of details a lover notices about his beloved and thrills in, things that go unnoticed by most others, which reinforces his feelings nicely.

They’re building up a decent case for how Kang could have been in love with Ji-hyun all these years without her noticing, even taking into account Ji-hyun’s simple-minded cluelessness. ‘Cause a lot of these things happened without her knowing of them — it explains why she doesn’t even know what Kang owes her for, because she wasn’t aware that he was touched by her actions. And then, you know, there’s his defensive porcupine shell and proud I-don’t-care-at-all facade. It’s sweet that Kang fell in love with Ji-hyun without her being aware, and possibly even against his better judgment. So what remains is the explanation of where they went wrong. And like I said: It’d better be good.

I loved this episode and I am so totally crushing on Jo Hyun Jae! I want him to be happy and end up with Ji Hyun but not sure if with her or in Yi Kyung. Love the scheduler too and want him to be with Ji Hyun too! In any case, I want In Jung and Min Ho to be miserable and with no one. Can't wait for episode 10!

Saw the preview. Wow things are heating up. Kang-ah goes and confronts the real YK in her workplace? What did she say....was it who are you? It can work two ways. Either she ignores him and he walks away frustrated. Or she listens to him and they talk, he realises she's the real YK who doesn't have a clue what's going on; she listens to him and finds the answers to all the questions plaguing her now. I hope they'll talk; for him to just walk off is frustrating.

I think her dad will be in a coma and meet her in spirit form where she'll reveal the truth about Evil Guy and the land deal. Omg maybe her dad will give up his life in exchange for hers?

Finally, the question on our minds....will she remember everything when she wakes up? My answer is no. I doubt it. But it'll be ok cos Kang-ah by then would have solved everything and Evil Guy and Evil Girl would have hightailed it out of there already.

It's ep 10 today and still no tears. Rushed ending is coming up then.

I really like this drama.
After the great summary I got some ideas how it possibly could go on.
Since the dramawriter have to think also logical for those people who are living in this drama. There must be some
explanations for them as well.

-
First of my thoughts:
-
Why did Ji-Hyun got the body of Yi-Kyun?
Maybe Yi-Kyun was a person like Ji-Hyun before she lost her will to live on. Others won`t suspect a different soul in her, but could explain it like schizophrenia.
Something like:
Her desire to live on as before and but feelings for guilt are holding her back.....
This could lead a way to her meeting with Kang who will be interested in her in person and on a way for stayin together even after these remaining 39 days......
----------------
Next is..
Really I don `t think Ji Hyun desevers the love of Kang because she discoverse his feelings after going in someoneelses body . If it happened during her lifetime I would agree with the thought she should come togther with Kang who really loves her. Right now she knows his feelings through this kind of opportunity it wouldn`t be alright at all.
---------------
I also think she won`t be able to remember anything after waking up from coma.
She will just live on like before the accident.
Her last memory would be the view of Min Ho with In Jung.
Therefor she could be upset with them.
--------------
But I am somehow sure that Min Ho is not really that bad.
There must be a reason why he is doing all this. Maybe it began with somekind of revenge feelings, but right now he begins to waver after hearing the diseas of the president. I think he will be one of those persons who will
cry for her

It wasn`t planned for Ji Hyun to have an accident.
It just happened!
And he would be concerned about his sister if that would be the case.

Yup...but don't think so cos he was ready to marry her; even for revenge and to hurt the dad, I doubt it'd go that far. In a kor movie maybe but not in a kor drama.

@testify, I don't mean to disrespect. Just a friendly advice.
Sometimes audiences' strong opinions don't go along with writer's imagination. Viewers pick up wrong clues and end up hating the drama at the end of the show (like MiGook shippers in dream high). The important thing is to get the right clues what writer give us and go along with the story.
Please stay with the story.

I did my best.
To me right now this is the most possible thing....
But I might change my opinion later .
While chasing another drama I foúnd a report about 49 Days. It says Yi Kyung and Ji Hyung were sisters.
But nothing more....

the reason why I think Min Ho likes Yi Kung is also.
Maybe he likes Ji Hyun but he never allowed himself to do so, cause he was in a revenge action.
Therefor he had In Jung to stop him from liking her.Once Ji Hyun was in coma his interest for In Jung stopped also.
Since every person in this drama notice the Ji Hyun in Yi Kung, why not also Min Ho.
Maybe he likes her also because she acts like Ji Hyun.
I wasn`t abel to understand but while thinking about the presidents desease was ther not a flashback also with Ji Hyun.
-------------------------------
I am really not trying to create something on my own. They were my thoughts after watching this.
------------------------------
Since it is a Fiction, in my opinion it could happen.
------------------------------
If there is someone who thinks different please let us know your vision.

I am really interested :)

-
It would be intresting to know if Min Ho went with In Jung also to the restaurant where he brougt Yi Kyung.
-
His interest for In Jung might also rose up after learning where she worked.

"Why did Ji-Hyun got the body of Yi-Kyun?" Scheduler AKA Hot Reaper Boy explained that Yi-Kyun was somehow responsible for causing Ji-Hyun accident and sending her on an early unscheduled "death".

and isn't Yi-Kyung just really convenient in general? She has no friends, no family, and lives alone. She even works the graveyard shift at a small convenient store. Except for Dr.Noh, she probably comes into contact with a maximum of 4 or 5 people each week and only for less than 2 minutes per person. How many young women her age live in such isolation?

I think it implied in episode 1 or 2 that Ji-hyun gets to use Yi-kyun's body because Yi-kyun was the reason Ji-hyun met her unscheduled death... And I think that Ji-hyun does deserve to have Kang, she's just an extremely good person and its because of this that Kang loves her...

Let's not forget the Scheduler has an itinerary to complete and that's why he was permitted to remain in his in-between state. Since he was YK's love interest, it's just convenient that they are all entwined (YK/JH/
Scheduler) and this is how it works out for him so he can earn his wings and let YK live in peace without him. I think she's holding him back from leaving Earth, because she's hanging on to his memory and it's probably why she is always sleeping ( to see him in her dreams).

what is so wrong about Kang ending up with JH? - this question is directed at #59.

if kang loves jh and jh loves him back, then wouldn't it be just fine if they end up together?

Go to fanfiction.net to create your own fantasy couples with your favorite actors then.

This "I only accept it if my LYW and JHJ end up together" mentality here is ridiculous. It's good that the writer doesn't go against the logic of her story just to satisfy some fangirl fantasies.

may i hope? i just hope JHJ and LYW to be together in the end, it's so weird to see them having so great chemistry but it's just on behalf of someone else, and in the end, end up with with someone who's i can't see any chem of them (JHJ-LYW),

it is LYW who builts the charming and adorable chemistry , and in the end it goes for NGR..

i can't accept.. really..

Actually you have a valid point.
So far all we have seen is Kang-ah either with or imagining a very young, and frankly, ditsy girl in JH.

We also see Kang-ah have more meaningful and emotional conversations, as well as physical contact with the actress who plays YK.

It isn't ONLY that he has better chemistry with the actress, but we have yet to see a matured and interesting JH in not ridiculously doll-like clothing.
We are visually biased against NG from the start.

It'll be interesting to see how they correct that image for the audience.

What is that stat about communications? It's 93% is non-verbal and we favor what we see over what we hear?

First time commenting, because I can't hold in the "kyaaa!!!" any longer =D

Going by the previous comments, I think I'm one of the few people that actually want Han Kang to end up with Ji Hyun, in Ji Hyun's body. A lot of you seem to dislike Nam Gyuri, but I actually see the possibility of some great chemistry between her and Jo Hyun Jae. The flashbacks of the two together always gave me this d'awww feeling XD.

That and I've always characterized Han Kang as incredibly devoted and loyal to those he loves. I think it would be a bit strange if his affections switched from Ji Hyun to Yi Kyung; especially after loving Ji Hyun for so long, and seeing Ji Hyun in Yi Kyung for so long. I hope Yi Kyung ends up with Sexydular though (in the living world please show kthx XD)

Then again, we're only half way through. Just giving my two cents. And it's about...2 hours to the broadcast! Can't wait!

P.s. does anyone know the tune that's playing in the background when Kang was "brood[ing] that night while clutching a charm bracelet"? It sounds rather nice, and reminds me of a similar tune in the kmovie "Mind and Love"

Completely agree with you! It actually wouldn't make much sense for Kang to get together with Yi Kyung from the way the plot had developed till now. I think people need to stop identifying Ji Hyun with Nam Gyuri the actress and start looking at the character Ji Hyun in it's entirety. People are letting their dislike for Nam Gyuri get in the way.

Thank you for the recap! This was a good episode.
I gasped, and awwwwwed, and laughed, and gasped, and yelled, "YOU ARE SO EVIL!" and awwed again.

Very line of this recap- when MH tells Kang he no longer considers JH his fiance:
"Congratulations, dastardly villain: You’ve just dumped coma girl and secured your place in hell."

My favorite moment: The look of incredulousness and relief on Kang's face. After he pulls JH/YK out of MH's house, he asks her, "Do you really want to work for MH?"not really sure WHY he is so desperate for her to say "No," and she finally does shake her head.
You can almost hear him say, "Thank you gods!"
Just for a millisecond, he enjoys the victory, then starts yelling at her again.

Twooo Kang-Ah love!

Jomo, do you think Min Ho ever really loved Ji Hyun? Maybe he loved her but he didn't want to admit it? So when he sees YK, he is attracted to the Ji Hyun that he sees inside her? I read testify's interesting post (56.2.1.1) and it set me thinking. Another theory - In Jung is just a tool for him to prevent himself from falling for Ji Hyun, and the moment Ji Hyun is comatose, he doesn't need In Jung anymore, and drops her like a ton of bricks.

So much to think about here...

MH really doesn't seem to have sympathetic human emotions. I think he is possessive, thinks the world owes him something, doesn't care who he hurts to get it and bent on revenge.

The fact that he is so willing to toss coma girl aside means he never felt something for JH. EVER. His calculating personality would despise JH for her naiveté and compliance.
Maybe now there's just a wee bit of guilt, but not attraction.

I really think he is more afraid and fascinated by JH/YK than anything, since she doesn't treat him well and cannot figure out why. It was a whim that made him invite her to be his maid, but it also allowed him to keep an eye on her.
Of course, that doesn't explain why he ran all the way home to give her the burn medicine...hmmmm...It could simply be that JH/YK so unsettled him that it shook away some of his outer evil shell encasing his heart, and for JUST ONE MOMENT, he let his heart feel actual affection for someone other than himself. Plus, he was in a pissing match with Kang over her...

I agree that IJ is also not a real love interest, and we will find out her "kidnapping" was staged.

I want MH to suffer and be redeemed, but not IJ, even though she's a victim, too.

Hm....interesting....a totally different viewpoint from testify's. Thanks for your insight, just felt my brain splitting into two....one for Min Ho in love with himself, the other for Min Ho in love with Ji Hyun. That's what I like about this show; it actually makes me THINK....so different from MP, where convulsive head tilting clouded all thoughts.

I can honestly say constantly picturing The Hand Towel naked under his clothes did NOT get in the way of me enjoying his "acting."

But I agree, sigh, there can be more to dramas than covered bulging muscles, right?

One of my favorite quotes from a Kdrama?
"Do you know what's obscene?"

"What's hidden."

I think this episode was very well done too. I think the chemistry between the actors/actresses is outstanding. I wonder if it is because, as many people commented, they have acted in another drama together?

Jomo, I enjoyed your comments! Especially when you yelled, "YOU ARE SO EVIL!” while watching the episode.

I gotta watch #10 now as those previews are really pulsing the anticipation into my veins!

Thanks javabeans!!!

I still feel like there is no way HK will figure it out. Human beings tend to rationalize things away and HK doesn't even sound like the type of person who can phantom something like a body possession for 49 days! [ For those who watch Fringe, if Peter couldn't figure it out in a world chock full of weird, mindbending events, what makes you think HK will!]

I'm still wondering if Min-Ho genuinely feels worried for JH's dad. In the beginning, I thought MH was mourning JH when she fell into a coma, but then the big reveal was that he's conning her. Bae Soo Bin's eyes are so deceiving!!

love the scene where JH is talking to YK and love how she always refers to YK as "unni". I really hope these girls become friends!

Poor Scheduler - one extra week. Somehow I think during that one extra week between when JH's 49 days are over and when he gets to end his scheduling days will be a crucial pt in the drama.

Thank you so much for the enjoyable recap.

If Kang falls in love with Yi-kyung (body) because she reminds her of Ji hyun...he would be confused when he meets the real Yi kyung. I hope that he falls in love with the real Yikyung.

Ji hyun can't reveal to Kang who she is...she will lose all her days left & forced to the "elevator". But then who would believe if she tells anyone the truth!

I can't wait for the time when he finds the real Yi kyung!
It seems like Min Ho is attracted to Yikyung without thinking of JiHyun. Maybe he will find out about the real Yi kyung soon too!

Tears: Kang, Seo woo, ? . Would Yikyung/Jihyun tear count? If the body of YiKyung produce the tear of sad ghost Jihyun...OR the Scheduler if he's back to to life first if he remembers Jihyun? Can't wait what the writers will serve us.

This reminds me of Summer Scent. The character of Son Yejin has the heart transplant of SONG seunghuns character's fiance who died on their wedding day. They (SSH & SYJ) fell in love but when they found out the truth, there was the question of whether HE fell in love with his ex fiance in SYJ.

OK so the way I feel things will turn out is this:

Ji Hyun will gather her 3 tears from Han Kang - Seo Woo - Scheduler.
She will get another chance in life but her body will be already brain dead.
At the same time Yi Kyung will commit suicide and die to be a scheduler too to be with her brother.
So Ji Hyun will be alive in the body of Yi Kyung not her own.
Han Kang will get both women at the same time Ji Hyun in Yi Kyung's body.

:))

OOORRRRRR

Ji Hyun won't gather the tears and will be as a spirit with Scheduler and Han Kang will be more and more attracted to Yi Kyung and will bring her to life through her linking with Ji Hyun.

Just thoughts.

in kdramas- braindead doesn't really mean braindead as we really mean it. I'm sure if JH fulfills her 3 days, she will wake up with her brain intact.

I don't think the Scheduler will remain a scheduler after he does what he needs to do (probably tell YK he was sorry and that he lovesher), he will go up the elevator to heaven. i don't think the Scheduler likes his job that much that he would continue being a Scheduler for longer than the 5 years + one week period.

Thanks for the recap! I'm really enjoying this drama more and more. Love Kang, the Scheduler, and even Ji-Hyun (surprised me, she seemed so clueless and too cheery in the beginning, but then her character really became more likeable). Even the "evil" characters don't seem one-dimensional. It seems Min-ho started out really "evil" but seems to be softening up (seems like he had a reason behind all this, maybe something to do with his mother), and In-jung seems to be becoming less sympathetic as time goes on (when she seemed really remorseful for what happened to Ji-hyun in the beginning). So to me, I don't know what will happen to them in the end, which is great that it's not predictable to me (or maybe I'm just slow)...

But I really don't get why some people want Kang to be with Yi-Kyung, not Ji-Hyun. It is overly obvious that Kang loves Ji-Hyun, and the "only" reason he fell for "Yi-Kyung" is because of Ji-Hyun's character inside her. I know some people are put off by Ji-Hyun's face (well, I must admit, I am, too, seems just like a doll's face, it's a little disconcerting) and acting. But I wish people would look at the "characters" in the story, not the actresses faces. And look at who Kang wants - all this time, he wants Ji-Hyun. Sigh.. oh well, that's my opinion anyways.

Required fields are marked *

to me the reason is:
Ji Hyun should find out about Kang and his feelings when he was right beside her. Not while she was using someoneelses body.
She prefered MinHo. Even if she was fooled, that was her choice. And she stood up for her choice.
The reason why she sees the real Kang now is because she is looking for those tears and needs his help. She wouldn`t know anything about his feelings if she hadn`t used his personality for finding a job. To earn money.

This is my reason for not wanting her to come together with Kang.

Aperson should

Required fields are marked *

I see it a very different way. Ji-hyun did not know how Kang felt about her because Kang always kept pushing her away and pretending he "didn't" like her. He secretly liked her but did not want her to know, so he purposely did stuff that made Ji-hyun think he didn't like her. She always commented he wasn't too nice all those years. This happened up to right before the wedding (when he told her to her face he wasn't her friend). So of course Ji-hyun would not get together with someone she thought didn't like her. And there was some incident that happened between them that Ji-hyun and Kang some time ago that they alluded to, maybe that also contributed to it.

So I don't blame Ji-hyun for going to Kang to try to get a job and earn money when she was in Yi-kyung's body. She sees someone she knows for a long time, and trusts him enough to go ask him for a job, etc. But being in another body, she sees the "real" Kang, someone who was indeed nice and helpful and caring. She starts liking him for showing this side of him, which he purposely hid from her all these years. So yes, I do want Ji-hyun and Kang to get together because they actually care for one another.

Better acting from NGR would round it up nicely, unfortunately it is not the case. Hi all! This is my first time writing here, even though I've been reading the blog for like 2 years.
Has anyone felt that Jowon's Ji Hyun and Gyuri's Ji Hyun sometimes feel like 2 different characters? Cause Jowon's Ji Hyun is more relateable, has more backbone and is more loveable, while Gyuri' is just a bit saccharine sweet.
I mean, you can't imagine Gyuri's in the scenes where JH in YK acts all cold and snobby with Min-ho. That is, Gyuri's JH you can't even imagine her that way...'cause in her portrayal, JH feels like a damsel in distress (i.e. Rapunzel or Cinderella)...
Same way you can't imagine Jowon's JH being so mind-numbingly dumb. I suppose it has to do with intelligent eyes or different interpretations..right, only I think that way.
Anyway, too long a post for the first, I think...Keep up the good work Javabeans and Girlfriday.

So agree with your assessment. I think I'm shipping HK/JH because it's LYW who interacts with HK most of the time. I think hands down, LYW is the waaaay better actress. The high school flashbacks, if compared to the present day interactions between JH/HK illustrate the MEH chemistry between NGR and JHJ, and the SIZZLING HOT one between LYW and JHJ. I'm just trying to imagine NGR doing the MH or IJ snubbing, and I can't see how it would be effective. She would prolly look like a petulant child with pursed lips. You're right, it may be LYW's intelligent eyes.

Some people here are really confused with their favorite pairings and whatnot, blurring the line between actors and drama characters.

Why would Kang fall in love with Yi-kyung? He's interested in her body because Ji-hyun is in it. Yi-Kyung is nothing like JH. You seriously think he's going to suddenly 360 fall in love with someone who doesn't have JH's personality just because when JH is in YK, she reminds him of the original girl he has feelings for? What happens when Yi-Kyung has full control of her body and Kang meets up with her. Complete Stranger Danger.

Men by nature respond strongly visually. They respond strongly to beauty they see. The first thing Kang saw in Yikyung/Jihyung was her looks. Points goes to YiKyung. He's drawn to Yikyung because he noticed some of Jihyung's character in her. Points to Jihyung.
Curiosity now has got Kang about Yikyung. He will probably investigate. When he meets Yi Kyung he will be puzzled but maybe will be drawn to Yikyung & help her recover to her normal self. I can imagine YiKyung's puzzled snobby look at Kang.

Jihyun or Yikyung...love has got to be mutual.
Kang obviously still has feelings for Jihyun. My question is why did he not confess his feelings to her. He should have pursued her.

0

Required fields are marked *

Because she was in love with Min Ho? It's pretty typical drama situation where reluctant boy sees girl he likes get together with someone else.

And I disagree, Kang may be a guy but the only thing that kept him from cutting YK from his life the first day he met her was JH's mannerisms and familiarity.

And why would YK accept a total stranger's insistence to help her? The stalker doctor now makes sense but someone she's never met before and who keeps on insisting he knows her (acting with a personality she knows she doesn't have).

Seo Woo is seriously such an annoying character. If I were In Jung I'd be pissed by all the nosy, none-of-your-business inquiries too, even if I didn't have a dire dating secret. I mean, isn't there such a thing as respecting someone's privacy? Only untrue friends don't follow that.

All Seo Woo does is whine and gripe and ask busybody questions. I'm sure she's meant to be on the good side, but they could've at least attempted to give her more dimension and a more likable personality.
