Lee Da-hae’s Ripley poster shoot

Lee Da-hae takes a femme fatale look for the poster shoot of her upcoming drama Ripley, and compares her character to a flower: “She has the charm of a dandelion, simple and friendly, but she’s also got the elegance of a rose, where you see her once and would never forget her. Miri is like a rose with sharp thorns who captivates people.”

O…kay. Dramas do love to overdo their symbology, don’t they? Furthering the association is that the character’s name is Jang Miri, which is close to the word for rose, jang-mi. Wink wink, nudge nudge. Get it?

The drama is about one “greedily ambitious woman, and the conflict and reconciliation between her and the two men who fall in love with her and are destroyed.” Lee Da-hae, bringing Micky Yoochun and Kim Seung-woo to ruin? Gah, it’s like the drama’s just asking for fanwars. I don’t look forward to that.

Ripley’s plot kicks off when Miri tosses out a lie she doesn’t mean, and gets mired in a web she can’t escape. Sort of like Lie To Me, only without the funny; it’s got a more serious tone and is described as a “traditional melodrama” (think Flames of Desire and Thorn Birds), so eeeeeeeek. Then again, if that’s your thing, maybe it’ll be a good counter to all the fluffy cute stuff coming out these days.

Ripley airs on Mondays and Tuesdays after The Duo ends, premiering its first episode on May 30.

If you have followed any post with LDH you would realise that such a statement would bring about the worst in her ardent supporters and the people who dont like her very much (of which there are a lot apparently) and will subsequently lead to someone writing a snide remarks about her acting, personality or Ripley leading someone else to retaliate with a snide remark about this blog and its followers and its allegedly unfair anti LDH bias.
Finally, after a small fanwar this page will get 100+ comments within which time countless insults and accusations will be thrown about and in the end everyone will feel rather tired.
In short LDH's PS has been discussed here time and time again.
We all know about it, some people accept it some people diss her for it but personally i'm here to talk about Ripley, and this freakin awesome poster!

Actually i would consider myself a "Casual"
LDH fan
Having followed K-ent, the PS doesnt surprise me 90%+ of k actors have had it.
I thought LDH was brilliant in my girl i havent watched any of her other projects so i didnt really follow her "controversies".
I simply adore Yoochun in SKKS and i love KHJ and KSW.

I love fluffy kdramas as much as the next girl but with Ripley being based on real life events i am expecting substance.

I am really looking forward to this drama
Y(^_^)Y
For me this is the freshest drama in the May lineup.
but i will be following Lie to me for the fluff, and ofcourse KJH and YEH

me too have accepted PS as part and parcel of K-ent. It was brave of Park Min Young to admit it publicly. It was very well done, she looks fabulous and so does LDH.

The plot sounds refreshing. Look forward to this new drama. LDH fighting!

Not a fan of Lee Da Hae's so am not gonna defend her much on this one. But I don't think she did her nose. Pics circa 2000-2001 made me think she only lost weight and did double-eyelid surgery, and a very well done one at that.

Anyway, after all the negative mulch about her, I was pleasantly surprised when I heard she was a close friend of Heenim. And how they normally curse at each other, with Heenim saying how tomboyish LDH was despite her feminine appearance. I never knew she had that side to her. :))

Who will win the ratings war this time?
Baby faced beauty no longer seems to be a strong contender so i think i'll put my money on Lie To Me Vs. Ripley.
I was surprised to see a YEH drama get a 9% start but then i heard it was because of a national Holiday. YEH's star power is tremendous and i expect the ratings to steadily rise but i feel like Ripley is tailored to Korean tastes and will give LTM a run for the money. We also cannot forget the veteran cast and Yoochun's status as korean ahjumma killer after SKKS. Also the Duo's high ratings will benefit Ripley.

Even though i am looking forward to Ripley more before Lie to Me aired i was expecting YEH to decimate the competition but i guess its hard to beat a Sageuk thats been running for ever immediately.
Either way May will be a wonderful month for dramas.

I think Ripley is going to win the ratings game for Mon-Tues because like you said it will benefit from historical drama "Duo" high rating and after that drama ends the viewers will watch Ripley.

Koreans love melodrama like this one and this is the only melodrama airing in its timeslot the rest are romcoms. Plus it's based on a true story.

Yoon Eun Hye has ratings power, but she is basically the only one in that series that has a ratings pull. As much of a ratings queen she is known to be, realistically speaking, there is no way that she can win against 4 people Lee Da Hae, Yoochun, Kim Seung-woo and Kang Hye-jeon. That's 4 against 1 unless she has some sort of magical power. *rollseyes*

Kang Ji Hwan is popular but was never known to be a ratings getter. It also doesn't help that they have Sung Joon in that drama who cant act to save his life.

Compared to the Ripley cast who has Yoochun the ajumma killer and Lee Da Hae who had successful projects in the past like Yoon Eun Hye. Then they also have 2 known veterans Kim Seung-woo and Kang Hye-jeon who are very good.

I predict that this will premiere with 15% ratings.

Sort of like Lie to Me? May I know which part? SEH and LDH's character is so different. The former is such a sweet heart but the latter's character sound manipulative. 2 total opposite different characters.

I dislike Flames of Desire and Thorn Birds. Too over the top for me personally. But, somehow I do not see Ripley in the same genre as these dramas nor the same as Lie to Me. I will watch a few episodes before I judge. I do hope Ripley is not a let-down like Lie To Me.

Required fields are marked *

It's only "sort of like Lie to Me" in the sense that the lead female tells a small lie in passing, and then it kind of snowballs and becomes a huge thing. She didn't mean that the characters themselves are similar, just that the premise that the two (very different stories) are built on are similar.

Required fields are marked *

Yeah, me too. If this is 'Lie to Me' without the funny, I will take it. Loved YEH in CP, but 'Lie to Me' is too predictable and all over the place.

From AKP

"Lee Da Hae stated, “In this world, there are dull but endearing flowers like the dandelion, and there are also flowers like roses, which captivate you the moment you lay eyes on them. My character, ‘Miri’, is like a rose – she lures people in with her charms, as they remain oblivious of her thorns. I’ll be working my best to accurately portray ‘Miri’, a woman who lives life her own way.”

The main plot for “Ripley” centers around the hypocrisy and desires of people.

It revolves around a woman’s unintentional lie, which ultimately disturbs the lives of those around her by exposing their truths and secrets.

The pilot episode will air on May 30th."

i think lee da hae has acted quite well in Green Rose. that's a melodrama.... right?? From the sound of this drama---"hypocrisy and desires of people"--- it wouldn't differ much from Tazza, Midas or Green Rose, I guess. I think I won't follow up on this drama, not a fan of melodramas.

On the other hand, I wonder if this drama is the best choice for Micky Yoochun's second drama... seems too serious for someone who has just started a drama career.

Second, LDH who was in My Girl. My first kdrama which of course pulled me into kdrama laland. I've never seen any of her other dramas so i look forward to seeing her this time.

I can endure watching few first episodes of melodramas but when it comes to the part where you go from hmmm..nahh...arghhhh...what the... do something !! s^$&@@#. i stop. Buy I am making an exception for Ripley. so Yey!

I think all actresses are way too thin. O_o

Their friggin bones are sticking out of their shoulders.
The only normal one was that girl way back in the drama, "My Name I Sam Soon."

But why is it that we are picky about the way they look? As a woman, I think we should be more kind to each other... since we all face insecurities. :)

LDH looks so sad lately though...its her eyes. They show such sadness. Unless that's her character? Eh... will wait to watch. :)

No professor here. Professor is just the real life person who the story is supposedly 'inspired' by. This story though, is different, with the plot surrounds the hotel business.
