Lee Da-hae’s Ripley poster shoot

Lee Da-hae takes a femme fatale look for the poster shoot of her upcoming drama Ripley, and compares her character to a flower: “She has the charm of a dandelion, simple and friendly, but she’s also got the elegance of a rose, where you see her once and would never forget her. Miri is like a rose with sharp thorns who captivates people.”

O…kay. Dramas do love to overdo their symbology, don’t they? Furthering the association is that the character’s name is Jang Miri, which is close to the word for rose, jang-mi. Wink wink, nudge nudge. Get it?

The drama is about one “greedily ambitious woman, and the conflict and reconciliation between her and the two men who fall in love with her and are destroyed.” Lee Da-hae, bringing Micky Yoochun and Kim Seung-woo to ruin? Gah, it’s like the drama’s just asking for fanwars. I don’t look forward to that.

Ripley’s plot kicks off when Miri tosses out a lie she doesn’t mean, and gets mired in a web she can’t escape. Sort of like Lie To Me, only without the funny; it’s got a more serious tone and is described as a “traditional melodrama” (think Flames of Desire and Thorn Birds), so eeeeeeeek. Then again, if that’s your thing, maybe it’ll be a good counter to all the fluffy cute stuff coming out these days.

Ripley airs on Mondays and Tuesdays after The Duo ends, premiering its first episode on May 30.

LDH is gorgeous. No doubt about that.

However, I do wish to critique the dress. Pretty, but they could've steamed the back of it so it didn't look so wrinkled in the second photo. Ruined the look.

I'm not a fan or anti of LDH. But not going to watch the drama cos I'm just not a fan of THAT kind of melodrama.

Sorry, Yoochun. I am a fan of yours... just not big enough to overcome melodrama, angst, and a story of a woman who gains through her deceit. >.<

i used to like her very much but not after what she said to the Filipino people that had made them very disgraced . making fun of other races and nationalities was never really fun.

What did she say, if I may ask?

Apparently, she "ranted" about how she never specified that Filipino speak that way. Rather, it was "South East Asians", I believe. While, that makes a bit better that she wasn't mocking a certain race, I really dislike it when she gives these long explanations making her sound like the victim or something (same thing happened with her tissue paper dress incident). I feel like she takes herself so seriously. I miss the old My Girl LDH :( She's still a good actress no doubt, but it's hard to believe in her characters when she seems so "off" in real life.

The tissue paper incident was beyond ridiculous and I think she had every right to defend herself. Celebrities are also human beings and whatever she said was very dignified. Can't believe so much fuss is being made over the fact that an actress chose to express how hurt she was at being the butt of ridicule and malicious comments for no mistake of hers. Many actresses might have stayed silent, but Da Hae chose to speak out and I respect her for that.

Move on. Get a life. We all make mistakes in our life. Come to think of it, Filipino do have funny pronounciation of the English language.

i.e the word "ma'am" and they pronounce "mum". Worst still the word "fact" and Filipinos pronounce it as "FUCK!". Believe me it's no laughing matter that one!

I am a Da Hae fan. While I agree with what you said and don't think Da Hae should be persecuted for ever for one mistake, I don't think anybody should be ridiculed for their accent. The issue has been put to rest for long. She was joking and didn't mean to intentionally offend, but that was one thing she could have avoided considering she has so many Filippino fans. She has apologised and most of the Filippino fans have also moved on. Let's leave it at that.

She looks great...which she needs to be because of her character description.

I am looking forward to watching this and hope it will turn up good. Lots of feel good dramas out here which am trying hard to watch the first few episodes and see if it is worth continuing...

I love that Lee Dong Wook is just above this post. Two pretty people lol.
I must remember to look into this Lee Da-hae hatred business. Every time I read about her the "hate her/love her" comments just fly right over my head.

May has been almost a total disappointment so far. Baby-faced Beauty, surprisingly, is the only one I found funny of the lot. So, desperate to watch something different. Ripley, please don't let me down.

LDH looks really gorgeous in that dress. Her character description may sound lame, but since most of the rom-coms in May so far have been beyond lame and cliched, I am looking forward to this one.

K-melodramas always lead to pulling-out of hair, tears (of frustation, not of touched-variety), and periods where the only way you can survive the next five minutes is if you have a dangerously high blood alcohol content. I hate them with passion, but somehow always end up watching them anyways. It's weird.

But there is no way I'm skipping Lie To Me for anything now. Despite the cliched-ness of the plot itself, it's too late...I'm already attached.

why are people thinking that Ripley will be a crazy typical k-melodrama?! I have hope because of Kim Seung Woo and
Kang Hye Jung. The script can't be so bad for them to accept the drama. I believe the ratings will be low but the quality great. Just a feeling...

they wouldn't dare to do a “traditional melodrama” ;)

Too bad. Not a fan of LDH.

I'll miss this one unless there's a last minute change on lead actress then I'll reconsider.
