Baby-Faced Beauty extended

Baby-Faced Beauty has been performing well in its Monday-Tuesday hour, and now KBS has granted it a 2-episode extension, taking its episode total from a planned 18 to 20.

The Monday-Tuesday timeslot has been relatively close between the three shows, with Miss Ripley settling into second place and Lie To Me in third place, but Baby-Faced Beauty’s lead has been solid enough to merit the added episodes. (For the most recent episode, Baby held the lead with 15.5%, Ripley had a 13.7%, and Lie To Me a 10.1%.)

An executive at KBS stated, “The response to the drama is good, and there are places where the story can be woven together solidly, so we decided to extend it by two episodes. At the start, we’d planned for 18 but left the door open to bring it up to 20 if the reaction was good, so there won’t be any excessive dragging of the story.”

The drama aired its Episode 12 this week, which gives it plenty of time to work in the extension, and I have hopes that this won’t wreck the pacing of the show. Baby-Faced Beauty has done a good job of mixing episodic conflicts to balance out the bigger arcs, so I could easily see it going an extra week.

I’ve been faithfully watching the show (despite not having time to continue the recaps past Episodes 1-4), and have been enjoying it a lot. Especially as Daniel Choi’s character goes from immature man-child to smitten, helpful, and adoring hero. I LOVE when the guy goes out of his way to help the girl but doesn’t take credit for it, because he’s motivated by his care for her, not necessarily the need to announce his good deeds. AGH, he’s so cute, it hurts a little to see him hurt, though we can see that Jang Nara has been held back by her guilt over lying to him.

(Plus, there’s the adorable food motif of the jokbal (pig’s feet) — it comes in a close third after Dokko Jin’s potatoes and Mi-ho’s cow fixation — since Daniel Choi’s family owns a huge franchise that has made them wealthy. But he’s both embarrassed by it (jokbal is a humble food, at odds with his fashion job) and determined to declare financial independence from his parents, so he keeps it a secret, supposing that people would laugh at him for it. And then Jang Nara goes and declares her love of jokbal, telling him that her dream as a child was to marry a jokbal restaurant man. His reaction = the cutest thing ever.)

On top of that, we have the president played by Ryu Jin (whose former coolness now seems more like shy awkwardness), who’s just as adorable in his growing affection for our heroine. Kim Min-seo is treading familiar manipulative-second-lead waters, but I appreciate that her character seemed to at least try to be reasonable early on, before her jealousy got the better of her. Or maybe I have residual affection for her after being Cho-sun in Sungkyunkwan Scandal and the ill-fated ex in Bad Guy.

In any case, Baby-Faced Beauty is my heart-warming feel-good hour on Mondays and Tuesdays (Miss Ripley is interesting to contemplate from a cerebral point of view, while Lie To Me is equal parts cute and frustrating), so yay extension.

So: The finale will air on July 5, which means that its follow-up drama, Myung-wol the Spy, will be premiering on July 11 instead of the previously announced July 4.

I have been following Baby-Faced Beauty religiously enough to waste my bandwidth and hard disk space. There are dramas that I like but never bothered downloading; I'm already content with just reading recaps.

Initially, I only wanted to read BFB recaps but the OTP's charms are just too strong to resist. I end up watching BFB sans subtitles and recaps to help me along.

It was quite surprising how emotional I got watching episode 11, especially when So Young finally let out her frustrations towards her family. Despite not knowing Korean, I still understood what So Young said to her mother.

For me, that episode also redeemed So Jin because it showed she actually does care for her unnie. Her callousness and bratty ways were so irritating in the earlier episodes, but when she found out So Young feels bad about their mother's unfair treatment of her daughters, So Jin actually looked surprised and guilty. Well, she taught So Young belly dancing and even tried to get their mother away from the company celebration to protect her unnie's secret.

And idk, Jang Nara's crying just broke my heart! This is her first drama that I've watched in Korean (I watched Bright Girl and Patjji dubbed in Filipino) so I really did not know how well she acts. The scenes where she tries to choke back her tears were sooo heartrending. I also love when actors cry like they have difficulty breathing, because that's how I cry too when I'm so frustrated and hurt.

Yeah....this is my very first K-Drama, and I think I am lucky to start it with BFB. I was confuse of how big the fuss of having relationship with younger man, and I guess I get it now.

I always love Asian movies and Drama, for me those cinema r more beautiful than Americans...but what I like about this drama is the heroine, she swallowed everything, every bits of insults and spits and angers...her crying is really touching (tough JN has this habit of covering her eyes with her bangs), and her trembling voice when she revealed everything on the stage. it must be hurt, but what I captivated mostly is when Jin Wook is staring at her ID card, try to make sense everything, but ended up with a bitter smile, his tears and all...I almost forgot that this is just a drama.

I don't know about t he other drama, I might start with other too, but now, with this good news I think I will always love this BFB drama, and like Jenna said " I want to have a boy toy like JW..hahahhaha"

Love the drama, but not really liking Daniel Choi's acting. It feels forced and I can't get over it. Jang Nara is awesome though. I also love Ryu Jin. Can't help hoping he'll somehow end up with the girl in the end.

Yey!!! good news for me! I really like this drama. I thought javabeans does not like it, but yey! I find the story heartwarming and cute.

I'm a Jang Nara fan. She was the first korean actress I really liked. I watched Bright Girl when it was aired here in our country. After that I became a fan. I like her acting it is not over the top. :)

May I ask what episode the picture where jang Nara is tying daniel choi's tie is in! Also just want to say, I find Daniel choi's acting very natural and cute! His character,JW, is also so gentlemanly and I love how he can never really get mad at SY or raise his voice at her! Who cares about the age difference when they are just so cute together!

a totally good show. I've been faithfully watching each episodes. Daniel Choi is cute as button. Sometimes, he's childlike but very thoughtful. Hehehehee..episode 12, when he's ascending the stairs (Hyun Bin in secret garden's was killing sunflowers petals) debating with himself to go or not to go up the mountain with jang nara was so damn cute. However, i'm totally in love with Ryu Jin!!! *sigh*

well when you think on it Choi not only has the age thing he also from a wealthy family and social standing. Now while the president also wealthy he does have the minus of being a single father with a daughter, so that kind of squares things if he where to link up with So Young. Though frankly I never seen the lest bit of romantic interest on her part for him. yes she clearly knows he a man but seem more worried about how it looks to others when she seen with him. While with Chio she more herself and open and very clearly does have a romantic interest!
Of course there always the My Love Patzzi ending..

agree with your plus and minus points for each of the two main men in LSY's life.

makes it even harder to guess who she will end up with.

Yay! This drama was seriously misjudged. SY grew on me after her confession and her owning up to it. I would've hate it if she was completely spineless and has to be rescued by Daniel Choi all the time. I adored the president's bratty little kid too, which is surprising because she was pretty evil at the beginning.

Only children with no mother or one parent can get away with being so bratty and still be considered still a good child in k-drama land.
It is odd So Young more a big sister friend and her father so sorry that she has no mother he spoils her. it is only Fishface..{the nick given to the second female lead over at viikkii bfb page] that makes any attempt to discipline the child, though sadly she only doing it for her own reasons rather than for the good of the child.

Wow...this drama... Has made my heart beat faster (literally) for the first time in...how long?? Maybe because of Choi Jin Wook...maybe it's of Daniel Choi himself...maybe because it's the drama package itself... Idk. My made kept pounding during the confession and the followup standing in the rain outside scene. And all the following scenes involving Choi Jin Wook / Daniel Choi.

And WOW, AM I ACTUALLY UNDERSTANDING WHERE THE ANGST COME FROM!?!?!? It's the much-dreaded angst period of the drama...but I actually understand the basis of it and the reason it still continues... Whereas other dramas *cough Lie to Me coughhh* left me confused and befuddled.

For a moment, I thought I was watching a Hong Sisters drama because of the quality of the series... And then I realized that there is much less slapstick humor here, HAHAHAA. Oh well. Good drama nonetheless.

BUT OMG, THE 40-YR OLD AHJUSSI AND HIS IU RINGTONE LMAOOOOOOOO. That was SOOOOOOOOO on purpose!! xDD

And did I mention? I <3 Jin Wook's ringtone. BoA's "Atlantis Princess," EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE~<333!!!!!!!!!

Gosh, I just watch the last ep (15) and I think Seo Young is really mean....poor Jin Wook, he lives in his own world...and Seo Young just hanging there, full of tears and broken heart alone, despite ep 15 as the sweetest episode of BFB ( I can't forget Jin Wook's face walking to Seo Young asking her to go to a movie theater), this one also break my heart, that how lonely Seo Young is....so sad...

I'm on episode 14, and i'm enjoying this drama in general, but damn, why are the characters in here so stupid? It's not like the style is the only design place to work at... and given her design success and skill, Seo Young could have just gone and sign up for another firm, probably even better without all the bitchy and crooked coworkers.

I believe it was So Young plan all along to leave Style, but only once she had proven herself and been successful, rather than the option of just running away. And it proved so, as she left to start her own Brand name with her mentor.
