Eom Ki-joon in danger of being cut from Scent of a Woman

Noooooooooo! Bad, bad news. There’s an update on Eom Ki-joon‘s car accident, and it looks like his recent DUI does in fact put him in danger of being cut from his current SBS weekend drama Scent of a Woman, starring Kim Sun-ah and Lee Dong-wook. BUT! He’s my favorite character in that dramaaaaaaaaa!

I know, this is not about me. And I KNEW it was a possibility. But waaaaaaaaaaaah.

Eom was in a car accident on July 21st, where he rear-ended a taxi while driving under the influence. Thankfully no one was greatly injured, and now everyone is waiting with bated breath for the court to make a ruling on his case. He apparently was over the legal limit on the test at the scene, but the final word will come from the blood test, currently being analyzed. That’ll determine his culpability, and also his punishment.

SBS has issued a statement that no decision can be made until the court gives its ruling, so they wait, along with everyone else. So what does this mean for the drama? Basically they keep going for the upwards of two weeks until the verdict, after which Eom’s character will either get to continue being awesome crankypants Doctor Poopy-seok, or he gets written out and replaced by some other oncologist who did not poop his pants in grade school. Damnit.

Why, Universe, why?

Sheesh, just when I was starting to warm up to his character.

Maybe the entertainment industry will smarten up and hire personal assistants with their sole responsibility to drive drunk actors home after a night of drinking. That will employ more people who need it.

Do they have to write him out? Can't we just replace actors and keep the character (if worse comes to worst).

I'm thinking Uhm Tae Woong can play a benevolent daddy-long-legs fairly well...

OR OR OR! They can sort of make a meta about UTW's Dr Champ character and have him fill-in as a 'consult' for Eom Ki Joon since UTW was supposed to be a genius, 'House'-like doctor.

I wish American entertainment industry will hold standards this high. Lindsey Lohan might actually start to behave.

That aside, I'm more concerned about scramble-rewriting of the story. One can only wonder if Bad Guy was rewritten to adjust to Kim Nam Gil's enlistment schedule.

For every person who commented on this blog
oh I love him he is so handsome
please don't fire him oh he he so good looking.....

What is more important a life or watching a TV program.

I wish each of you commenter would sit down with people who have lost family members to DRUNK DRIVERS.
Yes, THIS time no one got hurt but what about the next time ? it seems his arrogant personalty let him drive when he was very drunk.

If you drink and drive and get away with it you will usually do it again.
Just because your a handsome actor shouldn't mean you can get away with not obeying the law.

cheers, parsnip

I think on some level, despite any love for Eom Kijoon's hotness factor or hopes of keeping him on the drama, everyone here understands that celebrities cannot be treated any differently than everyday folk. Over the history of Dramabeans, we have had many reports of drunk actors and actresses getting removed from projects or were pending a removal. I can assure you that despite the love from the fans here on DB, they have showed that on some level they understand that a crime is still a crime.

Don't get me wrong, we would totally mourn the loss of a good handsome actor with an awesome character from a drama that has growing popularity, but I think most (if not all) the Beanies here are realistic enough to know that DUI is bad and requires a form of punishment.... It still won't stop our hearts from breaking and the constant "what ifs" that would surely follow.

What a sad and unfortunate situation. I'm in a dilemma.

If he should end up in jail, can they rework the script and he gets to go to jail because of malpractice during YJ's cancer treatment. YJ gets to live?

If he gets to do community service, film a reality sequence where he volunteers to do something like taking care of elderly folks.

If there is a replacement, can I have Kim Jung Tae as wacky doctor who wet his pants in?

Whoa! that picture... Focus, Linda, focus!

Ok, it's so sad... it only took him a second to make the bad decision of driving after a few drinks, but he has to take responsibility. Drunk driving IS a crime. Thank God nobody got hurt and maybe he'll just get community service or its equivalent in Korea.

If he gets taken out, I just hope they don't write off his character and instead gets a replacement... but I wonder how will that actor feel in an already established character..

It will be sad if he leaves but it depends on court's ruling which I hope is impartial.

I don't really have any sympathy for drunk driver. Getting cut from his drama should be the least of his worries.

Let me check my Sympathy Meter, here. Let's see. It registers a big, fat ZERO.
I don't care if it was the Pope behind the wheel - you don't drink and then get behind the wheel of a machine that can kill. You just don't.
This was a serious lack of judgement on his part - now he has to man up and face the music, whatever that might entail.
He may have to drop out of a drama? Tough. Welcome to reality - we'll make room for you.

At times like this I can't help but revert to an age old saying: "This sucks balls."

Yeah, age old as in elementary/primary school level. X/

At first I was like 'oh man....' but then when you think about it...Hmm...he rear-ended a taxi that may have been carrying people. Thank God it wasn't serious.

I'm prepared to hear that he's cut because its already said that its a DUI so the blood work may not show anything fifferent.

Please cut him off, and let him have the punishment he deserved!!!

Also, it is a better idea to cut this drama short and my patiently anticipated CJW's can't lose to take over!!! YEAH!!!!

I'm a big fan of his.. I read the title of the article about him before this one, I was only worried about him; is he injured or something.. but then after I knew about his DUI.. I was kinda disappointed.. I know he's only human just like us.. but I don't know.. when you idolize someone, you always tend to expect perfection from him.. I like him so much I tried to make excuses for his behavior, but then I just couldn't find it.. Now I just hope he take the responsibility for his doing (with accepting punishment or even being kicked out from the drama).. and then make a come back..

Is a DUI some kind of joke to you, girlfriday? Forget being fired from the drama; he should be held responsible by the full measure of the law.
He could have KILLED someone.

Really, NOBODY said he shld escape punishment by law. It's just that we don't want him to be cut out from SOAW.

DUI is never an issue to be joked about and yes, he could have caused someone else's (or his own) life but no one got hurt, no one died. That shld be a sigh of relief, right?

I'm sure fans are awaiting with bated breaths regarding this. As much as this might be troubling for the whole production of SOAW, I hope they reconsider that cutting him off would be destroying a part of SOAW's recent episode build-up.

Dr poopy-seok is opening up to Yeon Jae! (that smile.)

His character so far could easily be written out though of course I don't know how much he they have already filmed and how many scenes he has in future eps.

As much as I would be sad to see him go I don't think it would really affect the drama that much storywise.
