Hong Sisters back in 2012 with their eighth drama

Woot! No better news for the drama year to come. The Hong Sisters writing duo has announced that they’ll be back in 2012 with a new drama for KBS. Nothing else has been decided; just that they’re going to do a drama. But that’s pretty much enough to get the anticipation dial set to 10. The genre, the story, the stars… it’s anyone’s guess. Will it be another inside look at showbiz like Best Love or You’re Beautiful? Or a journey into fantasy like Hong Gil Dong or Gumiho?
People always call various actresses of the day “Rom-Com Queens” (or in Korean, Ro-Co Queen, which always sounds like “loco queen” to me). But I’d venture to say that the real queens of rom-com are the Hong Sisters (Hong Jung-eun and Hong Mi-ran), who have branded their own version of the genre, where the com isn’t just an afterthought. They’re known for a lot of things — their meta-on-meta in-jokes, their puntastic wordplay, their pop culture savvy — but in the end I think what makes them stand out is that they don’t forget the FUNNY.
So many dramas that call themselves rom-coms aren’t actually comedies at all. It doesn’t mean they aren’t good, but they’ve tended towards the lighthearted feel, rather than laugh-out-loud humor. Sometimes a Hong Sisters drama is as liberal with the toilet jokes as it is with the wordplay, but in the end, I never fail to bust a gut.
Here’s a refresher on their impressive resume of seven dramas over the last seven years:

Already the speculation’s begun for possible leading men, because as we all know, having a swoonworthy leading man is pretty much a given in a Hong Sisters drama. Oh, like YOU wouldn’t use your powers as the queen of rom-com to hire your favorite actors over and over. Of course, it could be anyone, but they do like to reuse familiar faces. Let’s see… Lee Dong-wook just came back from the army and tangoed his way to the top of the hot guy food chain. Most recent second-lead Yoon Kye-sang is getting in more comedy practice with High Kick. Once-second-lead Lee Jun-ki is due out of the army in February. Oh, yeah, and there’s SEUNG-GI. Do I need to show you the picture with the puppy again? Or maybe they’ll surprise us and go with someone totally new. I’m pretty sure I don’t care, as long as he’s what a Hong Sisters hero always is — funny, and HOT.
Let the fantasy casting rounds begin!

I love the Hong Sisters and I loooove their way of writing. Since Lee Jun-ki will be out from the army early next year, can he play the lead role and get the girl this time? Pleeeease? ^^

I really liked Lee Jun Ki in Time between Dogs and Wolves, and My Girl. But, sometimes he comes across as precious rather than manly (Hero for example). I really would like a leading man with a bit more "umph".

Every press release, every article, every interview, every behind-the-scenes photo or video, even every episode of the ill-fated drama Lie To Me screams, "We are SSOOO CUTE together!"
Every k-drama fan can hope that, with some common sense as their HALLMARK, the delightful HONG SISTERS writing team will bring these two leads back together in early 2012 and give this crackling chemistry a series that WILL go down in K-drama history!

Hopefully though, she'll be less annoying than In Hee and as charming and cute as Na Yoon.

My case for YSH:
1. You're Beautiful cameo: his wtf? face had me doing a spit take.
2. FoA: When he's all vulnerable but maintaining a stiff upper lip, it's perfect for capturing our hearts as a rom-com lead
3. WBDS: He kicked ass. He can kick ass in a rom-com. I'd love the return of the double swords, but heck, I'd be satisfied with just one.
4. He's intense: not always the best technically or even the best looking but he has insane intensity going for him, when he's onscreen, you're not looking away.

LOL. I don't think I've seen YSH in a rom-com but hey, there is always a first time right? :D He's so young, only 18. :D But still, I just can't see him in a comical role in a drama after watching him play such a serious person in WBDS. Now that was a good drama until the end.
(I guess I'm never really happy with quite a few dramas-ending...except a few.) :P

Cha Seung Won and Ji Sung are excellent examples of dead-serious guys becoming successful man-children in rom-coms, if you needed any examples to help change your mind.
Or we can just put Yoo Seung Ho in a Hong Sisters rom-com and have him directly prove that instead~ ;D

Have to agree, too many of the rom-coms of late seem to have taken a veer into Russian/Swede comedy. Glad to hear the Hong sisters are doing another one in 2012! They really improved with Best Love with how so many of us kept going back and forth between the 1st and 2nd male leads. Maybe they'll start creating a dimensional 2nd lead female?!
Otherwise I hope for something completely off the wall, not-going-to-happen with an LGBT rom-com. Cause it'd be great to see the Hong sisters take.

Just like LDW - Out of the Army and back into our hearts. It is a perfect match of needs. He needs the ladies to remember him, the Hong Sisters need a pretty actor to humiliate, and we NEED TO SEE LEE Jun-ki being funny and heartbreaking.

Do the Hong sisters audition for their leads? Meaning will there be a line of wannabe-Hong-Sisters-Male-Leads outside KBS building in 2012 trying to get casted?
Or are they that influencial and good with casting that they basically already know who they want and will get the actor desired?

Maybe Kim Jae Won? Actually, I hope the male lead is someone dignified-looking and manly. It would be awesome to see him go through the Hong-sisters-male-lead transformation!
I actually wouldn't want to see a repeat of lead actors. The Hong sisters' OTPs are pretty epic in romantic and comedic chemsitry, it would hurt to see Jae Hee have an epic pairing with anyone other than Han Chae Young. Same with Lee Dong Wook and Lee Da Hae. Or Kang Ji Hwan and Sung Yuri.

Is Seung Gi with a ... milk bottle?!?! And posing as if it's beer? hahaha. I will be very happy with any of the four you posted above.
Looking back, there are still some Hong sisters drama that I haven't seen yet. Best Love is on the top of my list. I just can't like fantasy couple storyline enough to watch it and Hong Gil Dong is the only saeguk drama that made me interested enough to watch parts of it. Regardless, I'm just happy they are doing a new drama because their stories are fun to watch!

Yay! Hong Sisters! You know who else I'm looking forward to writing a new drama? Kim Eun Sook, the writer of Secret Garden and City Hall. I've noticed a pattern that her works are always released towards the end of the year, I hope I'm right and she releases another amazing story!
