Vampire Prosecutor flirts with Season 2

Ooh! Ooh! More hot prosecutor with a penchant for blood juice boxes and the perfect application of guyliner? Where do I get in line? OCN’s hit show Vampire Prosecutor must be taking a cue from rabid fans, because producers have announced that they’re seriously considering a Season 2, and really, they’d be crazy not to. Well now that changes everything about what I want for the finale!

According to the production, they can’t give final confirmation, but are currently working to coordinate actor and staff schedules for a second season, and have been planning for one from the get-go. It wouldn’t be a stretch to call Vampire Prosecutor a runaway hit, as far as cable numbers are concerned. It’s been in the number one slot for ten weeks running, with last Sunday’s Episode 11 averaging 2.5% ratings, continuing its streak of stellar numbers for original cable programming. The previous week’s Episode 10 raked in an average 3.16%, with a high of 4% during the broadcast. (In cable ratings, a 1% average is considered rock solid, or… it was until this show came along.)

Basically shows like Vampire Prosecutor are changing what it means to be a competitive original drama on the cable landscape, just at the turn of the tide when a slew of newbie cable companies have launched with original shows of their own. It’s a really interesting time for dramaland, and I can only hope that the trend continues, because we’re getting some damn good dramas from the little guys.

With only one more episode to go, this leaves me in a finale-wish predicament. While I would normally want the hero and his team to save the day and tie up all their loose ribbons, wouldn’t it be awesome if saving the day meant it put him on the opposite side of the law for Season 2?? Okay, I know, but then it would have to be called something other than Vampire Prosecutor. How about Ex-Vampire-Prosecutor: The Reckoning?

What’s great about the procedural format of this show is that it could potentially go on for years, like the American model of multi-season shows. The murders of the week provide the stable backbone, while we could get a new big bad, or spend more time with the team and their personal lives. I guess all that really matters is that the original team stays together, because that’s the heart of the show. Maybe they can add someone to the team, like a new intern for Dong-man to boss around.

If the stars align, Vampire Prosecutor Season 2 will air on OCN next August.

YES YES YES! Ahem.

I can totally understand why this is such a hit, and for once the ratings support quality. It's smart and funny and cool, and I'm always rabid for more.

as much as i'm excited abt there being a season 2, but wouldn't that mean we would't get an answer to the big overarching story this season?!?! and we'd have to wait 8 months!?!?! :O

I wouldn't mind a season two of VP, but I kinda hope it would stop there. One of the things I like about Kdramas is that they have a complete story arc with beginning, middle, and end. This was refreshing for me, after watching so many American TV shows that started off with a great couple of seasons then sort of fizzled out after that. I'd rather spend a shorter time with characters I enjoy and leave with fond memories, than have it hang around too long and dwindle off into apathy.

This is my feeling as well. As much as I love kdramas and miss seeing my favorite characters once a series finishes, one of the big reasons for that love is getting to see a whole story -- beginning, middle and most especially end. The conclusion is the big reward, the payoff.

Now if a whole, complete story that moved the characters was told each season, that would be a better compromise for me -- something closer to the British TV model, where the next series is never guaranteed.

Agreed. I've always preferred the British model to the American one. A few loose ends, or some bigger insight into the pasts of other characters like the head prosecutor or the hot CSI - as funny as watching the dudes be idiots is, I'd like to see a bit more personality in her.

But a second season is a second season. My fingers are feeling sore from all the crossing!

And while the cable companies are at it, make a season 2 for City Hunter too! Please, please, please!

I hate dramas that get cut ( well i hate the cutters, not the drama who did nothing wrong... ).
I don't like dramas that get extended because i don't have any good example to mention.
But for this, i'm totally YES ! The format and the genre plus the crunchy characters and the possibility to add juicy cameos... Miam... or Yum if you prefer.

queen of reversals. the only example in the history of drama universe. The extentsion allowed them to switch the main men, and the second lead won :D

Nice to read this after just watching episode 11 subtitled. :)

I'm all for a season 2 of this show; there's a lot of potential to flesh out the vampire world, but more importantly, the core characters and their relationships with one another.

it's a two-edged sword, since kdrama mania reasoned with short running-times among other things compared to their multi-seasoned, never-ending and sometimes draggy western counterparts.
But it's nice to see the landscape change, and it's good that they might try the seasonal concept for episodic, successful shows.

Oh great!! That would be nice if there was a Season 2 cause I would not have to worry about anyone dying. I want the original team to stay on though because it would be weird with some new people, well joining the cast is fine, not replacing any of them. I like how the season was a case an episode. I was really hoping they never get to the end. But, what would the big case for the new season about? I guess if there is a season 2, then the big bad at the end of this season would come back and he would not effectively die off this season. Maybe they will keep the accomplice a secret till next season. Oh, I don't care as long as there is a second season. YAY!!!!

Oh my god, yes please! That would be amazing! A second season with Tae Yeon on the opposite side of the law (yet still consulting - through Soon Bum?) would be so, so good. There's a lot of potential there. It also gives us a chance to see more characterization, and to slowly develop the feelings between Tae Yeon and Jung In. Yay! Congrats to the cast and staff on the show - they truly deserve it! They've done such a wonderful job!

hmm, will definitely love to have a season 2.

season 1's finale ? his team managed to prove our hot vampire prosecutor's innocence and got that baddy vampire. BUT, the mystery behind the vampire prosecutor's sister is still not yet unrivalled ... season 2 ?

Awesome! I love this show. It's different from the current landscape of sagueks, romcoms, melos and whatnot. It's fun, fast-paced, sexy and the one episode a week format is pretty satisfying. Please make a second season! But pleasepleaseplease make it just as good (if not better than) as the first!

One of my fave shows of this year.
Great actors and a fast pace mystery every week. The quality of the show was outstanding, and I was sad to think it would end with only one more episode.
The ratings show how much the audience like this show. Hopefully, the powers at be can get the same cast and same excellent writers for season two. That would be fanastic!!!!
I hope we get our new year's wish for another season.

I can see them doing this. It doesn't have to be grueling either. They can do it like any kind of seasonal show. It will leave them time to take on other shows or spend time with family.

If a season 2 really does happen, I'm anticipating more than ever what will happen in the finale. And, I agree with you, Girlfriday! Tae-yeon on the wrong side of the law, but still fighting for justice like a vampire City Hunter, would be awesome!

hey GF, is it just me or are you and JB pretty keen on the idea of kdramas adopting American format i.e. running indefinitely until people get bored and it gets canceled?
I remember you guys mentioning this a few times regarding other shows.
For crime dramas like this or sitcoms (?) like High Kick, it works. But the day that I see my other beloved dramas adopting this format is the day I bid them goodbye. I mean, brevity is their greatest strength -- it allows them to have an arc rather than getting repetitive and tiresome.

Oh, and Mr. Vampire Prosecutor looks totally hot and awesome in that first picture!

I agree with a previous poster that the British model would work much much better than the American one (a season having a single arc with little or no loose ends to the plot). I think one more season would be great; a third would probably bog it down too much.

So let's just cross our appendages for another 12 episodes of yummy case-clearing blood-tasting goodness!

I am so happy for the cast, especially:

Yun Jung Hoon, our vamp prosecutor. He was a good foil in Jejungwon, but this role really lets him shine. Happy for him.

Lee Won Jong, our vamp prosecutor's loveable BFF. He must be so happy that he gets to play a fun character for once, rather than the same old scowling, scheming, sinister, evil mastermind/resident baddie. And he's so delightful in this role. (I feel the same way about Kim Roe Ha playing a good guy in the Princess's Man and Lee Jae Yong in Tree with Deep Roots.) It's so great to see him be a warm teddy bear!
