Dramabeans 5-Year Anniversary Giveaway #3

girlfriday: Week three of the blazin’ birthday giveaway extravaganza extraordinaire!

javabeans: You know what that means: More presents! Man, what a spoiled 5-year-old Dramabeans is.

girlfriday: Right? If DB were a kid, we’d have one needy brat on our hands.

javabeans: Then again, most 5-year-olds receive presents, and DB’s giving ‘em out. Although I don’t know who gave that kid my credit card info.

girlfriday: Is that what’s going on? That explains a lot. This time we’re giving away a brand new iPod nano, but that’s not the best part. It’s chock full o’ goodies! It’s got a Javabeans Playlist on it, which I’m gonna venture to say is worth more than the player itself.

javabeans: We’ve also got a few more premium memberships to give out to Dramafever, in case you want to get friends/siblings/parents addicted to your drama poison of choice. Because as we know, drama addictions are best shared, not cured.

girlfriday: Yeah, rehab’s for quitters, and we’re no quitters!

javabeans: So get crackin’! By which we mean, please post up lots of nice thoughts for our many many guest posters over the years.

girlfriday: They know how much we appreciate them, but as we know from personal experience, sometimes the warmest thanks comes straight from you guys, so please be generous with the love!

And the winners of Giveaway #2 are…

  • Bethany, winner of a one-year premium subscription to Dramafever,
  • PrincessSerenity81, winner of a one-year drama membership to Crunchyroll,
  • and Bluefyre, winner of one $100 gift certificate to Yesasia.

Congratulations! We’ll be contacting you shortly via email. On to the next one!

Giveaway #3

Question: Actually it’s not a question this time, but a prompt: Thank a guest blogger, any guest blogger. That can mean any of our current contributors (i.e., gummimochi, kaedejun, HeadsNo2) or anybody who’s ever written a guest post on Dramabeans in the past. (*Don’t forget to use a valid email address, and please indicate at the bottom of your comment if you are NOT a resident of US/Canada.)

Prizes:

  • 1-year premium membership at DramaFever (US/Canada residents only)
  • another 1-year premium membership at DramaFever (US/Canada residents only)
  • an iPod nano (maybe with some stuff on it, wink-wink).

DramaFever offers free legally-licensed dramas and movies with high-quality English subtitles. With a premium membership you can watch unlimited, commercial-free, and enjoy extra content as well as unlimited mobile device access and high-definition. Check out recently added titles here.

Winners announced: Sunday, January 22, at 8pm, Pacific Standard Time*

*Or, 10pm in Mexico City, 11pm in NYC, 1am in Buenos Aires, 4am in London, 5am in Paris, noon in Singapore and Manila, 1pm in Seoul and Tokyo, or 3pm in Sydney and Vladivostok. Dear samsooki
Thank you so much for introducing me to "My Lovely Kim Sam Soon". I loved your recaps and insightful commentary. I became so enamored with this drama that I bought the cd and video, so I could see it over and over again. I still reread your recaps or parts of them at least once a week, just to relive some of those special moments in sam soon. I hope that you will return to Dramabeans again soon with another drama recap.

Oooh, a possible prize for something I've wanted to do for sometime now. Thank you

*DAHEE_FANEL: I think it was your Iljimae review that redirected me to this site (and yours). For that, I am eternally grateful.
*THUNDIE: your Year End reviews were my favorite, because we sorta had the same taste in dramas, and your reviews always gave me a good laugh because they seemed to be reading my mind. Please come back to blogging soon.
*SAMSOOKI: your City Hall recaps were EPIC. and then you followed it with Sam Soon sometime later. Quit spoiling us.
*CASSIO_PEIA & RED PILL: I seriously enjoyed those SKKS recaps. I still read them from time to time when I need a pick-me-up after a bad day.
*KAEDEJUN: I feel like you don't get enough credit on this site, considering you recap A LOT of dramas. So, thank you! You're doing an awesome job!
*HEADS NO. 2: I never watched TWDR but I've never missed a single one of your recaps. I'm actually watching Salaryman now and I feel like our recaps are a nice bonus. I think I might go back to watch TWDR one day.

Of course: Javabeans and Girlfriday, my crack dealers: All my love and gratitude forever. :)

I want to thank Kaedejun for all of her hard work doing so many recaps! You've recapped several dramas that I've been interested in (and/or watching) that weren't covered by the javabeans/girlfriday duo and for that I am eternally grateful! I love your humor and your wit and your enthusiasm (plus, that you understand the value of a healthy dose of squeeing, which is absolutely necessary to a good recap). What's Up, The Musical, Prosecutor Princess (one of my favorite dramas of all time!) -- you've offered us so many goodies! Thanks! Truly Thanks!

Dearest Samsooki,

Can I just say I'm a big fan of yours? I'm sad that you've been away from us for quite some time - before your awesome return with recaps in 2011 for My Name is Kim Sam-soon - but also happy because this means you've been keeping busy with baby Samsooki and Mrs Samsooki and being a big shot lawyer - at least I hope so. I first came across your DB recaps with City Hall and immediately fell in love with your writing. I also love to read what you have contributed over the years with your understanding of the legal system in Korea vs the US, and the awesome mind opening discussion you had with jb and Sere on 200 Pound Beauty. I especially loved siding with you on the whole My Lovely Patzzi heated debates that went on around here. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, and thank you for helping keep my Kim Sunah crush alive.

Dear HeadsNo2,

Thank You for the awesome recaps on Tree With Deep Roots. If it wasn't for you I would have never tried it, and would have never fallen in love with it. But all your recaps aside, I think it was your recent one on Padam Padam that really made me fall in love with your writing. It was a well thought out piece and even taught me a thing or two about literature. Thank you for your awesome insights. Thank you for sharing. Thank you for being here with us. I look forward to more from you.

Dear gummimochi ,

Can I just say I'm a major fan of Running Man? I freaking love that show. I thought I was never going to be hooked to another show again after Family Outing, but that Running Man proved me wrong. Thank you for recapping all the new episodes and helping spread the Running Man love. Thank you for recapping it so I could look forward to it even more considering good quality iSubs subs takes time. Thank you for the laughs. Thank you for being a fellow fan. May we hope for many more RM episodes to squeal over together.

Love Love Love,

Your Fellow Running Man Stan

You guys really didn't think I forgot about you did I? Samsooki would not have been able to churn out the awesome City Hall recaps without you guys. I know not where you've been as of late, but I continue to be thankful for the riot that were the City Hall recaps. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Please stop by every once in a while. It'd be nice to hear from you guys again.

First of all, thank you to all who blog and recap on this awesome site!

I want to mention Sevenses in particular, because I really enjoyed the 'witterings' of 2008 dramas post. I had not seen any of the dramas mentioned and thought that it was quite a cute but brief little summary of the dramas and pointed out both their strong and weak points. Thank you for your review!

I want to thanks HeadsNo2 for the beautiful recap to Tree with Deep Roots ... your recap of it was as addicting as the drama itself ... I was skeptical about the drama even though it has a stellar cast (since I am not really a sageuk drama fan) but your recap just bought the addiction in me to see this drama and thanks to you, I have no regrets in it ... love love love the drama

Thanks thanks thanks! I hope you would continue to contribute your recap to dramabeans blog since even just reading your recaps can brings me down bawling like a baby on the Tree of Deep Roots.

Once again, great thanks and keep up the good work ... Have a happy new year!!!

Thank you kaedejun! For your wonderful and insightful recaps for the drama What's Up! As well as the awesome clips of songs. There doesn't seem to be much love for this drama around, even on the soompi forums :( Along with enlightening us viewers, your recaps help bring together discussion and speculation on this awesome and sadly underrated drama. :D Thank you!

Also thanks to soyjoy and dw4p for their persistence on Smile, You. I was only able to watch up until ep 21. The main leads were amazing (I watched for the leads) but the rest of the cast and the storyline was a bore. I'm amazed you guys even got as far as you did, and the quality of your recaps never decreased either.

Final thank you to EVERY contributor here at Dramabeans. The content here is top quality, provides valuable insight into not only the drama story but explaining nuances of Korean culture that I may not know... or clarifies things that may get lost in translation. You guys make me laugh as well. I trust the reviews you guys write and I'm more inclined to check out a drama that I would have initially passed because of the standards and constructive criticism in your reviews.

Dramabeans rocks!

Well the two people I'd like to thank are vastly different from each other in terms of their recapping style, haha. I'd like to thank HeadsNo2, because your recaps - especially those for Tree With Deep Roots - are all so ridiculously detailed and insightful that more often than not I find myself in awe of just how much time and dedication you must have put towards the recapping. In almost every episode's recap, you explain the things and words that appear in the drama, adding in lots of information about the Korean history. As a foreign reader with no knowledge whatsoever of Korean culture and history, your information has allowed me to enjoy the drama better with more understanding. I'm also awestruck at how knowledgeable you seem to be, haha. I especially liked how you told us about SSM's execution by King Sejo in the last recap. Without it, I think the scene where SSM has a shiver run down his spine after meeting the Grand Prince Suyang wouldn't have made an awful lot of sense to me. You made the scene feel more impactful and dramatic for me, and a recapper that actually makes the show more awesome for the readers is indescribably awesome too, so I would really like to thank you and pass along my fervent hopes for you to stay as a recapper on Dramabeans for the long run. A good writer is always interesting, but a dedicated writer will forever be a joy to read. Thank you!

The second person I'd like to thank is Santa, however bizarre it might seem, haha. Most of the time recaps on dramabeans are decently long, with some snippets of humorous takes stuffed in along the way. However, I take my hat off to Santa because not only are his recaps ridiculously short, they are also endlessly enjoyable, with a snarky remark and funny reference stuffed in almost every sentence.

How can someone manage to be so funny and entertaining for every thing he types? It seems pretty miraculous to me, and I'd like to thank Santa for his on-the-spot recaps, which always manage to cover all the main points in the episode so that I don't really miss anything, but also provide me with a bucketful of laughter, and spare my eyes from the pain of reading through too many long posts.

Santa and HeadsNo2, I think you both rock in your own special way, and I hope you continue to churn out amazing recaps!

kaedejun,

Sincerely, thank you so much for all the time and effort you've put into recapping for this website. I've particularly enjoyed your recent recaps for Romance Town and The Musical, two shows I started out with great expectations of that fell short. Regardless, I continued through with your recaps, often because I gained such an understanding of the show that I would not have otherwise. Most of the time, if a show bores me, I drop both the episodes and the recaps, but your work just encouraged me to continue through just to gain an understanding of what you thought of it. Thank you so much!

Additionally, thank you to all the other guest bloggers as well as dramabeans and girlfriday for all your hard work!
