Female lead and second teaser for Shut Up: Flower Boy Band

The first girl has been cast in Shut Up: Flower Boy Band, and she’ll be playing the heroine and main romantic interest, Su-ah. Given that she attracts the affections of not only our hero (Sung Joon), but also his best friend (Lee Min-ki) and band rival (casting not announced), there’s a lot of curiosity about Jo Boa, the newcomer who’s basically hit the jackpot on her first try.

If you’ll recall from the extensive character descriptions, there are two high schools in the drama, home to two very different bands. Our hero belongs to Eye Candy, and when his ragtag band of misfits transfers to Jungsang High School, they come up against the posh princes of Strawberry Fields, the three-member band led by cold, privileged Seung-hoon.

Here’s the second teaser:

In the clip, our hero tells us, “John Lennon once said that the Beatles were more famous than Jesus. We’re not famous or special, but we do what we want to do. We may be getting dimmer in the world, but music makes the sound of my heart grow clearer.” His character says, “I think this is the first time in my life I’ve ever worked so hard.” Altogether they cry, “Let’s shut up, and go!” (Is that Jung Eui-chul I glimpse in the clip?!)

Jo Boa’s character Su-ah attends Jungsang High and goes from princess to pauper overnight. Raised in a wealthy home, she suddenly has to figure out how to take care of herself, moving into a tiny rooftop room alone and taking on odd jobs that she’s clumsy at. She chooses to pull herself up by the bootstraps rather than whine (always a plus in my book), and because of her pride she keeps the news from her friends. Instead, she keeps a positive attitude and turns to the internet to figure out how to do things around the household.

Then there are the new boys who transfer to her school, like that Byung-hee guy (Lee Min-ki) who keeps calling her his “muse,” whom she just can’t figure out. On the other hand, there’s his friend Ji-hyuk (Sung Joon), whom she meets by chance on the neighboring rooftop. They start to share their secrets, as the attraction builds.

But there’s also Strawberry Fields’ leader Seung-hoon, her schoolmate and other admirer. Seung-hoon’s all technique and precision, but truth be told, he lacks fire and he knows it. That’s part of his aggravation with the Eye Candy boys — he can see that their raw, charismatic performances have the power to move people, and that makes him uneasy since he lacks that. Plus, the whole Su-ah thing. I’ve got to say, I like that they give him some depth — he’s a rich boy who feels stifled by his controlling parents, and part of his antagonism stems from insecurity.

It appears that Jo Boa was recently on an audition show on JTBC called Made In You, and in the youtube clip above, she explains that she’s just been cast in a drama (thanks to her Made In You exposure) and has come to do the poster shoot.

Jo Boa said about her casting, “This is my first drama, so I’m extremely excited and thrilled to be going into filming. Everything is new and amazing, and I’m grateful to be given this big opportunity.”

Little else is known about her, given that this is her first drama and she’s got a blank resumé. While a lack of experience sometimes indicates rough waters ahead, I’m taking this as a positive sign; you don’t cast the lead role of a buzz drama with a no-name rookie unless she’s good, right? (Think Im Joo-eun in Hon, Lee Min-ho in Boys Before Flowers.)

The drama airs on tvN on January 30.

It definitely sounded like Jung Eui-chul. That voice!!

Jo Boa's pretty cute and the character sounds the best it could be for a girl who is fancied by all the guys - that could get annoying for the female viewer (just me?) so I hope she's cool and likeable to us as well.

It’s a complete turn off to have every man in a drama liking one girl! It shows lack of imagination in the story writing right off the back. When a writer not able to write multiple love stories it's a sign place right on your nose that it limited and the focus will be on the stupid prejudices and the lack of respect for human being that only K-drama do all so well. This alone will have me taking a peek after the first 10 episodes has aired.

She looks adorable and her character sounds interesting and fun - I could see why 3 boys would all be interested in her, for different reasons. The look of this drama is very interesting, I am full of anticipation!

I hope she has a great personality. I'm liking the "positive attitude" and "chooses to pull herself up by the bootstraps rather than whine" description, although does the whole neighboring rooftop thing remind anyone of "Doremifasolatido"? I think it was the rock music and Jung Eui Chul who reminded me of the similarities.

To anyone who's never seen that movie (and you might be tempted because of Jang Geun Seuk, Jung Eui Chul and Im Joo Hwan), DON'T. You'll thank me later.

JUNG EUI CHUL!?!? YESSSSS!

anyway, in the first photo, she didn't quite look as i had expected, considering how all the guys are going to be in love with her(shallow much?). but as soon as she started talking, i found her to be really likable. and she's getting cuter the more i look at her, okay she's quite gorgeous. here's to hoping that she's got great acting chops. and i must be crazy, but i thought i saw vampire boy(lee soo hyuk).

She's cute and has a refreshing face. I'm sure she'll be good. If they casted a n00b, it must be because she's shown exceptional skills. Her character sounds delightfully interesting too. Oh man. I'm so looking forward to this.

"Instead, she...turns to the internet to figure out how to do things around the household."

Sounds good and relatable to me. :D
(The Internet saved me from going hungry by teaching me to boil water. Ramyun? Yummm~)

Lee Min Ki AND Jung Eui-chul

Dude, I almost forgot how they looked like it's been so long. But, damn. Please, let this be true. I cannot wait.

And the teaser looks pretty darn f-n awesome. I just hope that's true :D

Random, but did Jung Eui Chul go to the army, hence the hiatus?
Because after BOF, Vampire Prosecutor was the only thing he was in I think?

The teaser reminds me of a Skins UK promo.

She is really cute. Excited to see a new face. Not excited to see the various love triangles. I hope it's all resolved by the 3rd episode. Rockers sulking about unrequited love is not sexy.

Sung Joons voice is yummy. I'll watch for that alone.

But...but... LMH had been in three dramas before BOF, even if none of them were nearly as successful. I don't think this girl has even done a CF or cameo in anything, but I sincerely hope she doesn't turn out to be the weak point of the drama. I an really encouraged by that Lennon reference and the background on the Su-ah to check this out.

Like her face, it's not typical pretty face and she's prettier when she smiles. I totally think she's definitely has talent in acting like main lead in Hon and Girl K. Hope she will prove it to us!

Her character reminds me a little bit with Go Hye Mi. But I'm sure I will stop comparing when I will be watching this show!

Go Hye Mi... lol, that's what I was thinking too. But she sounds a bit more resourceful. I'm sure there won't be too many similarities, because I liked Hye Mi and would hate to be comparing the two heroines. Though if Jo Boa is a better actress than Suzy that wouldn't hurt.

It's nice to see a Kdrama heroine who doesn't look like she's spent the past five years in a cocoon at her local plastic surgeon's office =X

I've got high hopes for this show, even though I wasn't all that crazy about Flower Boy Ramyun Shop.

I like the main female's character description. Turning from princess to pauper and rather than mope around about, learns how to take care of things on her own. It's pretty ideal because I'm tired of all those female leads who just cry about the world turning upside down and expect people to fix it for them (the main male lead, usually). Jo Boa looks pretty too, and the teaser promo look flashy and neat. I'm becoming more and more interested by the moment.

I'm kind of averse to the whole "every guy and his brother become attracted to the main female lead" concept, especially when the female lead is supposedly "drama unappealing" even if she's played by a pretty girl. In real life, most guys don't just home in on the girl who doesn't stand out in a crowd. But for some series, it works out, and if this girl is supposed to have been a part of the higher classes and she's hiding the fact that she's already poor, then there's more plausibility that the girl is admired by many. Like that popular girl in school who's rich, beautiful, and untouchable -- except in this case, she's just not rich anymore.

I like the descriptions. The fact that Seung Hoon has depth and that there will be reason behind his antagonism is refreshing. I'm excited to see his character growth. I have a feeling that there might be a possible bromance between him and someone on Eye Candy. Maybe the one that feels like he lost his bf to the new guy. Aww. I'm so excited.

Hope she doesn't annoy me. I feel like kdramas tend to make this type of character awesome or annoying. So, please don't be annoying, lol.

I see Moon Geun Young in the first pic, Go Ara in the second, and Soo Ae in the last.

So ... Jo Boa = Korea's Emily Blunt, who has that Kate Winslet/Marion Cotillard going on. Essentially proving what I've known for years: That (almost) everyone in any film industry has a cookie cutter look.

Okay, just 32 seconds of her and I already like her. I really am excited about this drama, more so than Dream High 2 because I didn't watch the first Dream High. So I'll most certainly watch this.
