Jung Seok-won turns into Rooftop warrior

Here’s another addition to the Rooftop Prince crew: Jung Seok-won (Ojakkyo Brothers, Dr. Champ) has joined the cast as a “soonjung macho” character (tough on the outside, pure on the inside).
Jung’s role is of “Joseon’s greatest swordsman” who is quiet and forceful. How come every drama has to have a “greatest swordsman ever” character? I know the Joseon Dynasty spanned 500 years, but I’m pretty sure dramaland has got reality vastly outnumbered. They’re like the dukes of historical romances. Now I’m picturing all the drama swordsmen in a lineup and wondering who would come out tops. It’d be a convention of black robes, stone faces, and flashing swords. And the flowing hair, of course. Never forget the hair.
I do like the note about Jung’s character that tells us he turns into a shy adolescent boy in front of the woman he loves, though, which should provide a nice contrast with his fierce fighting side. I presume he’s there to guard the Joseon prince (Yoochun), two time-travels to the 21st century and falls in love again(ish) with the woman who looks just like his lost princess (Han Ji-min). Moon/Sun‘s Lee Min-ho also stars, as does Jung Yumi (Thousand Day Promise).
Rooftop Prince is now being described not only as a fantasy-fusion piece but also an action romance. So, lots of sword-fighting, and love-fighting, I presume. But with Bad Family’s writer on script duty, I’m also expecting a lot of laughs. The drama premieres on March 14.

Wonder why he's taking a lesser role when he already was a main lead in Dr Champ.
Maybe Baek Ji Young will do the OST for this show now he is on haha.

I love this picture : It looks like 3D on my screen :).
Strangely, i picture him as the perfect Nice Guy ( even in Dr Champ i found him so cute and gentle, a bit like our panda / pillar of FBRS ). So seeing him as a warrior will be interesting.
JB : About the numerous Best Swordsmans of Joseon, i think than a lot of them were actually usurpers and bragging average men looking for adrenaline ( Fight Clubs of ancient times ).
So fantasy-fusion-action-romance themed. May i add medical-food-science-fiction-music-school-family-sports-mystery ? This way, i think we cover a larger territory. Just in case...

Peace cherkell. Dong Soo is a True Legend ( if that means anything ). Everyone knows he lived a long life as a pacifist wanderer who could cut you in two pieces just by looking at you. Literally disarming.
Some others pretend after a fateful day he changed his identity and hid in the mountains to study medicine and take care of a disabled old friend...

Thanks for the news! In relation to who may be the greatest sword fighter (lookswise)...I vote for Kang Dong won (?) in the Duelist and maybe Jang Geun Seuk in Hong Gil Dong...and let's not forget Jung Il Wo in Return of Il Ji Mae. Ahhhh...so many men...so little time!

It seems like every bodyguard in Joseon dynasty has always been cold/stone face, blackrobes, quite, and comes out of nowhere when the master is in danger. I wish there is a change, imagine if the bodyguard is talkactive and womanizer, yeahhh.. flowerbodyguard type... (kinda like song joong ki's character in sunkyunkwan scandal... but a bodyguard). Alright.. I'm drunk.

His role is very minor in OB. And it's the least interesting character. He was good in Dr Champ in the action / low key romance field, with a bit of comedy. Totally underused actor.

OK, I am thinking that RTRH and Ricky the pillow prince are the same, and correct me if I am wrong. Which then makes me curious about the name "ricky the pillow prince" I wanna go there, but I don't know if it is safe to go there (is it safe, to go there? :-) ) What brought on the name change? If I may ask... Is that supposed to mean something? (oops, I think I just went there, didn't I?)

It's from OT last week, Ivoire (towards the end, I think, if you go looking - Shuk was telling me about a J-movie called Shima Shima where this woman employs men who can be hired to literally sleep with you. No hanky panky, just a warm body occupying the next pillow. From that it became Ricky working as a pillow prince and then he made the name. - we missed you!

JoAnne, Thanks so much for clarifying things for me and I am glad my mind didn't have to go where I didn't want it to go :-)!
So now, the name "ricky the pillow prince" makes a lot of sense. I can actually get on board behind that name. One of my favorite Kdramas features is when the OTP or some pairing for that matter falls asleep together in each other's arms, no hanky panky (if they are not married. It's ok, if they are married, I just don't want to see the action, that's why we have an imagination [at least that's how I prefer it]...and yeah, I will confess, I am one of those prude ones...), just falling asleep. I think there is something adorable, cute, sentimental and romantic about that image. I like how the couple just seem to abandon themselves in the arms of the person they are sleeping with, it always seem that way in Kdramas, at least. I LOVE IT!!!! (that is the sentimental and romantic in me). When people sleep, they are at their most vulnerable state (just look at babies) and I LOVE seeing the men when they are vulnerable and when they don't hide it. So think, The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry, Scent of a Woman (they fall asleep twice and those were beautiful shots...), Playful Kiss and many more... Those scenes always get me.
Hum....so if Ricky were to work as a pillow prince, he might have a lot of work huh... :-). He might probably be able to pay for school, who knows...
You know, I missed you guys last week as well. I just didn't dare go near the OT because I needed to work on some stuff and I needed to focus. The OT and everything Dramabeans is my FAVORITE way of procrastinating (not in a good way, a LOT OF TIMES), so I have decided that sometimes I should just stay away from it, because I can't resist the writing and reading and checking to see who responded and then I want to write some more and so, you know, my day is over and I didn't get much done.
You know me, my "Hellos" can turn into a long rave about a drama I like (remember how I raved about Bummie and the WWSWTM) or about how Kdramas make me feel or start a conversation about the ethnic diversities in our families. Though those were fun to write and to read about, it distracted me from what I should have been doing :-(, because the truth is I rather be with you guys than do what I need to do and talk about Kdramas and the Korean entertainment world. As an American star once said, "at the end of the day, none of these stars cure AIDS OR CANCER, they just entertain and give us a venue to escape our daily life or woes", so I have to keep it in perspective. Having realized that, I decided that it might be better for me to stay away from temptation, as much as I missed you guys :-(
On a selfish note, I am happy to know that I was missed :-) (Ok, now that's the 5 year old in me who wants to belong who said that). I am so glad I could say that, * bows*

Well, I never seen any of his drama except OB. He's doing a good job there. I like his cool acting and he's lightweight sarcasm.. But, not sure about acting emotional... he's not very good in crying scene.

I think this guy is all kinds of hot, handsome, and cute!!!!!! and so is his girlfriend, by the way (so I have no dibs on him, to me he's already taken, so I am just enjoying the eye candy) and I have seen him in some interviews and he doesn't seem to be dumb either.
I like him in OB, and I do feel that he is underused as an actor. I wish he would be nurtured and given roles that would help him sharpen his skills and hopefully be a lead male because I think he would look great as a lead, if he could match it with great acting skills.

hahaha that cracked me up .... I would go to that convention just to see Yoo Ah In's Orroz cuz ya know.... he's TOPS out of all the swordsmen for me out of all these sageuks
