Faith releases teaser and character descriptions

Here’s a look at the first teaser for the highly anticipated blockbuster drama Faith, starring Lee Min-ho and Kim Hee-sun as a Goryeo warrior and a present-day doctor who defy space and time to meet and fall in love. On the one hand, being the Nth time-travel drama of the year brings the excitement down a notch; on the other hand, none of its predecessors have figured out how to perfect the form, and if I’d put my money anywhere, it’s on this production team.

The fantasy fusion sageuk is the re-team of writer Song Jin-ah and PD Kim Jong-hak of legendary dramas Legend and Sandglass. Lee Min-ho plays Choi Young, bodyguard to the king in the year 660. He’s 29 years old and has no regrets in life, and no ambition for women or money. His hobby? Sleeping. His specialty: “Sleeping for long periods of time.” Ha. Catnapping warrior it is.

Because he lives a life of no regret, he’s not afraid of death. (You could argue that because your occupation is life-threatening, you choose to live a life without regrets, yeah?) Choi Young believes that people who don’t fear death needn’t spin their wheels scheming, so he takes that to the extreme — he’s a warrior who doesn’t strategize, so much as attack everything head-on. If he happens to succeed, great; if he fails and dies, oh well. OH WELL?! Ack, set your hearts to permanent lurch. I don’t foresee this being a calming experience, watching our hero walk right into death traps with a devil-may-care shrug.

Meanwhile Kim Hee-sun plays Yoo Eun-soo, a 33-year old plastic surgeon in the year 2012. She was originally a general surgeon, but quickly found that it was an overworked, under-paid profession and jumped ship to plastic surgery. Her dream is to someday open her own practice. But one day a strange man she thinks is dressed as a drama extra kidnaps her… and takes her back to the Goryeo era. Their love story spans centuries but also warring beliefs. He gave up on love to be an unflinching warrior. She doesn’t believe in love or trust anyone.

The title Shin-eui means faith, as in belief in justice. But in Hangul it’s also a pun on god + medicine, as a play on the medical and the fantastical, two major elements of the world. It’s a re-imagining of a what-if version of history, potentially changed on a massive scale by the actions of two individuals. The taglines for the show: “Fantasy and history will meet. Person and person will meet. Person and heaven will meet.” It’s described as the epic story of those that will shape a king and change the course of fate. Sounds epically epic as epic can be.

Faith premieres Monday August 13 on SBS.

And here I was having my LMH withdrawal syndromes. Thank K-Drama gods for his mane of glory (seriously, I loved his longer hair in the first episode of City Hunter).=) I've pretty much decided to set my expectations as low as possible for nearly everything this year, and City Hunter comparisons might be inevitable, but I'm ready for the epicness. And mature female characters. However, I have to admit, that moment where she is running with a handbag had me LOLing hard.

If you talk realism, LMH with it's 1.85m and half-Caucasian face is not fitting either. :) Not sure we would find the male Koreans of those times attractive...

that trailer def got me warmed up for next month!!! i luv LMH but wasn't impressed with City Hunter. I pray faith shows his capabilities as an Actor now that all that pretty boy stuff is out the way. I hope LMH wins me over with Faith or else Lee Seung Gi will keep the #1 spot on my favorite actors list.

Chin on hand*, how did this boy become so famous in my head yet I never completely watching anything he plays?

:D Maybe this can be a try. :D

Queen In hyun Man 's has taking away my unconditional love for k-drama. Queen In Hyun’s Man have set the bar so high that nothing even compares. It didn't just reinvent the time travel concept it change the whole direction of k-drama for me. Queen In Hyun’s Man Story-line, Acting, Directing and even the Title was so in sync, it flows effortfully. Like a hot bubble bath, I'm not hoping or expecting another realistic, natural, intelligence drama I'm demanding it. I'm not going to accept anything less; I can't! Now that I know exactly how good it feels when its done right.

I love LMH in my opinion he the male version of YEH when it comes to kiss scene, but even that not enough any longer. I want to watch a k-drama when Story-line is well written, the directing is open minded and the characters are not restricted. When all theses things are in one drama you get Queen in Hyun Man when the character are so captivating because they are allow to act like they are the only one there and most importantly like they are the only ones that matters! I think most k-drama actors/actress are restricted, they act as if they are playing themselves and being watched and judge by thousands of viewers instead of playing a fictional character.

OMG... finally..... our loooong await is almost over Faithers, yes.. this is the MOST anticipated drama ever.... my heart beats faster just to think about the JOY this drama will give to us all.... Lee Min Ho is one of the source of this joyful life of ours and I bet he knows that :-))

Finally we are about to get back to that unforgettable The King 2 Hearts frenzy's like... I'm kinda missing that moments where I gain the indescribable happiness by only reading the comments.... amazing moment...

I feel even more initiated into kdramacrazy now as this show marks the first time I'm super excited for an upcoming drama! I haven't yet seen either Legend or Sandglass so I wonder if I can squeeze them in before this airs, at least one I hope, so I can know more what to expect from the writers... oh what I am saying, I'll watch just to see LMH again!!! :P

So excited for Faith, been looking forward to drama comeback of amazing duo PD Kim Jong Hak & scriptwriter Song Jin-ah. And they've been working for this drama since 2009 even though they may change the script a bit due to the influx of the time-travelling drama this year.

But as most of them were during Joseon era, it'll be interesting to see Faith which is based during Goguryeo era.

Sadly I have yet to watch QIHM so I have nothing to compare this drama to when it comes to time traveling etc. I'm a Lee Min Ho girl so of course I'm on board for this drama, missed seeing him in drama-land so I can't wait to see this new avatar he'll be portraying. [If this drama fails then I can always go and watch QIHM lol]

They should make it less obvious of how influenced they are by the successful Chinese dramas with this sort of time travel storyline... xD

Does anybody else besides me think that
"the bodyguard of the king who sleeps.....
as a hobby" is really a joke from Lee Min-ho
and/or his management company's publicity
department, since he's rather famous for
not having had much time to sleep during
the insane filming schedules during BOF, PT,
and CH, and that "sleeping for long periods
of time" will have nothing whatsoever to do
with "Faith" when it is finally broadcast?

Yeah, I can easily see LMH accepting this role,
not because of the fine writing and directing,
which so impresses dramabeans and girlfriday,
but because he can "act" and "sleep" at the
same time. :) :) :)

Unless Faith ends with Lee Min Ho publicly declaring his love for Kim Hee Sun thereby making all our... (as yet to develop) shipping dreams come true, then I'm skeptical it can top QIHM although I'm sure the fandom will be rabid and the drama entertaining. The crazy chemistry and power that in QIHM is indeed great.

looks like i may be the only one here who's not excited about this drama, i like Kim no doubt but don't tell me this kind of drama is getting too popular, first another medic drama much like Dr Jin going back in time? No i'll pass, tired of this kind of storyline, not for me! i didn't even cont watching Dr Jin much as SSH is one of my fave K actors!

It's me again...hopping to Dramabeans previous posts...better late than never, ehhh!

As i've mentioned, my heart goes to Queen Im Hyun's Man...when it comes to time travelling story plot...

However, i believe LMH's FATE has more angst to it...better showing of its PURPOSE in time travelling than gearing towards its romantic side of of the story.

Since i love LMH, i will definitely be open in giving my heart to it...probably i'll just contend my heart in dealing with LMH's characte in FATE that his chemistry with the heroine.

That's the saddest thing if u get to watch one best era of one drama...and having it compared to a newbie.

I hope FATE...will stand on his own inspite of its time-travelling theme...

Anyways, with the charm and great acting of LMH...bet yah, he wont let us down...!

Iono, story line seems good, but Kim Hee Sun as leading lady role opposite of Lee Minho?! O.o I think she looks too old for him. I hope the chemistry on screen makes up for it :D
